Back to my Phillip and Penelope engagment of convenience au
The next day Phillip formerly asks Portia for Penelope's hand in marriage. Portia agrees but asks them to wait till the end of the season for the wedding since Prudence has also recently gotten engaged to Robert Huxley.
BUT GUESS WHO OVERHEARD BECAUSE HE WAS COMING TO SEE HIS DEAR FRIEND PEN AFTER SHE IGNORED ALL HIS LETTERS.
Colin hears the words 'Penelope', 'engagement', and 'wedding' all in the same sentence and then nothing else registers in his head. He's angry and he wants to punch something. Preferably the man who asked for Penelope's hand in marriage.
But no, he can't do that. Not in the Featherington home. Portia might ban him and then how is going to see Pen? By attending balls? Yeah right. Plus no way is he allowing this "fiance" access to Penelope where Colin can not also be.
Colin sneaks out before he does any damage.
That well hidden Bridgerton temper creeps its way up until Colin is inside the Bridgerton home and then the poor wall has a new hole in it. Which unfortunately was seen by Bridgerons A and E.
"COLIN BRIDGERTON!" Anthony falters in his yelling when his younger brother turns towards him with a look he has only seen once before.
"Pen is engaged," Colin whispered.
Anthony sweeps Colin away while muttering about calling for Benedict and maybe Simon. Eloise only looks towards the home of her former friend.
In truth Eloise has missed Penelope. While she still is angy Eloise has had enough time (and letters) to come to the realization that if she was gonna be mad at Penelope she also had to be mad at herself for the decisions she made despite the warnings.
But if what Colin said was true then Eloise was limited on time before her friend was whisked away to who knows where.
Before she knew it Eloise found herself walking towards Penelope's house. There the two talk it out and are on their way to becoming best friends once more.
"So I hear you are engaged?"
Penelope looks confused at Eloise. "I am surprised news traveled that fast. But yes, at the end of the season I am returning to Romney Hall-"
"Romney Hall?" Eloise spluttered. "Where Lady Crane used to live?"
"Yes, Phillip and I have been spending the season together and-"
Eloise is gonna have to go through her letters when she gets back home.
