ik jyl is underdeveloped and stereotypical but there are ways to develop and respect her character that aren't having her do things she simply wouldn't do
#I KNOW the series is bereft of assertive women I know#but this is such a pet peeve of mine idk. her personality as it is doesnt need to be 'fixed' by making her aggressive or anything#writers can do what they want obvi but her very best scenes were politely verballing demolishing that guy#and very few authors seem to be able to grasp that part of her without destroying what made it work#like if I read abt a character I want it to sound like them...#not to mention the ones that try to 'fix' her character by making her fight good omg what a wasp nest#strangers on the shore and all three of the jyl centric works on my rec list. i owe you my life#also the jyls in grave goods and feast and famine. just excellent even though those fics are so heavy and dark#ficblogging
