I crack myself up sometime. I never knew what 52 Shishito peppers looked like until tonight...now I fell like Gorest Gump. Pickled Shishito, canned Shishito, Shishito for soup, Shishito to share...hmmm perhaps I should become a Shishito Farmer...no chemicals, only Espoma Biotone. Many times, it's more than just the plants. It is the inviting, accepting aura that a space, a home, a garden exudes. It is this colorful house, the garden that simply embraced reuse, recycle, reduce, it was the bottle trees...however, most importantly, it was the sign that reflects my spirit each and every day. Gladiolus. The flower my Mom loved and almost every memory of my youth, this flower made an appearance. From funerals to weddings and everything in between...they were there. It's a Southern thing and it was quite meaningful when I received them this week from another Southern Lady ( love that magazine!), Bonnie Espoma grew these and I knew exactly what vase I wanted to use. These pink wands of beauty needed to be in a space where they are allowed to shine. On my sidetable, by a reminder to always remember your roots. I placed them so I could see them as soon as I open my front door. As I garden and write, I find myself thanking my ancestors for making a way out of no way and sowing seeds of hope, as they hoped for better days along theway. Borage blooms and Seedlip ...even if my mini flamingo ice cubes were not noticeable, just knowing they were there made me giggle. If you want to add libations that's fine as well. I simply wanted a drink that was pretty ( borage blossoms) and refreshing ( Seedlip). Stay tuned to an event that I will offer featuring floral ideas from the garden to the glass. Tomorrow...the peony blossoms will have steeped, the Monk fruit sweetner will be added and a dash of lemon juice and voila...in a jar. This concoction will be chilling til the middle of the month...perhaps...we shall see. The storms came after my first peonies came into bloom. I think I will call my creation a Blushing Peony Cocktail...who cares, it just has to be delicious to me. It also must remind me of the first peony bloom of the season.
