It's a bit of an unproductive writing day for me so have a small (probably controversial) headcanon instead:

I don't think Donnie actually needs glasses (how would a mutant turtle get a prescription anyway). Donnie only started wearing them when he saw other "smart" people wear glasses like that on TV and began wearing some himself. He saw a bit of himself in some of these characters and ended up mimicking them and their behavior for a short time. After a while though, the glasses became a bit of a comfort and security item for him as a kid, which is why he kept them around for so long. Donnie later built the goggles as a proxy to them when he decided he needed something with a bit more high-tech and functional.

#I know this kind of goes against popular fanon #this is just a dumb little hc to justify the glasses in my brain #I never saw them as actually being useful #since it would be so hard them to get ahold of glasses #much less get a prescription #so I like to think that they were a security item #much in the same way that the sweater seems to be for Donnie as a teen #he just felt more comfortable in them as a kid #am I projecting my own behavior as a child into Donnie?#mayyybe #shush #rottmnt #rise of the tmnt #rottmnt donnie #rise donnie #god I just could not get any writing done today #nothing was coming together #ugh
