Aim For Excellence, Not Perfection

The motivation is to succeed for the sake of showing yourself, to prove it to yourself that you can succeed. Because you always know if you have that grit, you have that resilience you know deep inside you that you can succeed at pretty much anything and you know that others have succeeded. I read all the great self-help books of the time and of the old you know, the old dudes. I read Napoleon Hill and Og Mandino. I read Wayne Dyer and Tony Robbins back in the day. I read all those guys what from the time. 

I was like 10 years old. I was reading that stuff so I knew that it was possible, but there's always that little element that inkling of self-doubt that we all have and the only way to supersede that, the only way to override that self-doubt is to do it, to just get the out there and fail and do it and fail and fail and fail again. Most people are so busy seeking success, they get sucked into this perfection paralysis. I can't tell you how many people I meet who's come onto my course with like, hey man, want to make money like you. Show us how to do it and I bring them on if I think they're appropriate and I teach them how to do it. And you watch them getting myopic and stuck. 

Oh man, this product that I'm going to come out with, why haven't you done it. It's been a month, why haven't you put it up. Oh well, mine's going to be more perfect than everybody else's and I got to perfect this. I know people don't care that the label is a little crooked but I care it's. They're not shipping product. They're not living up to their potential, because they're becoming paralyzed by this thought of perfection. It's an excuse. The ones that win are the ones that are able to go out there and go, you know what, I'm going to put something out that's good enough and then the rest of my life. Are You Coaching Your Employees To Improve Performance?

So look, you you have to have systems in place. So a lot of our time in the early days was spent building systems and now with amazon, what we realize is that systems are what it's all about. When you have systems in place, you can afford to relax a lot more. The second thing you need is you need people to execute on those systems. So you need people to delegate to. Those two things are more or less non-negotiable. 

Once you have systems in place and you have people to delegate to, then you can shift your role as an entrepreneur to being a coach for your people rather than a micro manager. And if you can become a coach most of my time is spent coaching people. Well, what do you want to do? Oh, I want to get the you know, the Johnson account back online. Okay, how do you want to do that? Well, I'm going to call Mr. Johnson and tell him you know, that we can do it for the price he wants. Okay, fantastic. 

When do you want that to when you when you want to make that happen? Oh well, I want to do it today. Okay, great and what if he says no? Oh uh okay. If he says no then I've got this and this plan. Okay, great. I didn't tell him anything in fact. I used very little brain power. I just allowed them to tell me what they were going to do and then let them take action and just really acted as a coach. I might say a couple kind words genuine like hey you know, you've always been really great at bringing in new clients and I know Mr. Johnson loves you, so you know, this this one should be easy for you and that's it and that becomes your role as a leader.

Plan For Life Prosperity, Not Probability

And the students that I have the ones that I can tell are going to succeed are the ones who don't look at it like it's a roulette table right. They don't think like hey, I threw the little ball in the  thing and it went around and landed on my number right. They look at it as I'm gonna hit this nail in the head until it goes in and if the hammer doesn't work, I'm gonna use a sledgehammer. If that doesn't work I'm gonna use a rock. 

Whatever it takes, I'm gonna get it done. Those are the guys that that make it. The guys that go in thinking like it's a roulette table sometimes they succeed sometimes just using our algorithms they can make a few wins but outside of that those aren't the people that really end up succeeding and making it and that's the thing you've got to be able to pivot at any time. I'm sure you guys know in in your world Facebook changes their all the times. What you could do five years ago you can't do now.

Qualities That Make You Mentally Tough

I think part of having a certain level of grit and stick-to-itiveness but also the quality of being relentless. Since I was a kid I was always picked on when we came to this country. It was during the Iran-contra scandal. Iran was not in favor. People did not like Iranian people. We got called all kinds of names. I had my ass handed to me every day at school. Every day it was like going for a beating and it wasn't like now.

Ranking Based On Sales Numbers

The most important thing is being visible. So in order to be visible what we call ranking you show up on to show up on that first page. When you search for I don't know uh pie cutters and you go on to that first page of amazon when you click through, there's about 10 or 20 items there on that page. That is golden real estate. There might be 2000 products, there might be 20000 products, but whoever is on that first page has it. Whoever's got the number one listing that's gold. So amazon discovered hey, I know how we're going to get up there. It's going to be catch 21 catch 21 catch 22 English not so good. 

Um so which whichever catch it is and what they did was they designed their algorithm, so that the more sales you have the higher you rank. So if you want to be there in that top 10 of amazon, what you need to do is to generate sales because if a product has a lot of sales that means a lot of people are buying it. That means that amazon wants to have that low hanging fruit on top because it's the best user experience and a product that doesn't have very many sales they can push to the back because whoever wants to buy that specific brand will look for it and find it under that brand's keywords.

I don't know how much of those guys what they said was and how much of it was real and you know there's all this controversy around Napoleon Hill and those guys and that's fine. But it created your frame of mind for sure. That's right. It created a mindset for me that that was possible. So later in life as I approached more and more success, I started reaching out to writers. I started reaching out to personal development writers, business writers and making them my friends and started working with them on some of these concepts of success, which I, you know, to this day carry with me.
