#and THEN going and finally checking out dppt

‘the children yearn for the mines’ is a little too real to me bc when i was a kid and my older siblings were trying to get me into pokémon i really never cared to try playing. BUT. i was obsessed with the underground mining minigame in dppt. i used to beg my sister to let me take a turn playing and set it up for me bc i didn’t know how to so i could go mine for gems nonstop until i cleared that entire cave section of glittering wall spots which always made me so sad bc i was having such a great time. i didn’t even understand the significance of what i was doing but 7 year old me was high off of it
#years and years later when i actually played platinum myself and it hit me like OH this is the game with the mining thing!!!#you have no idea how happy i was#…and also sad. it made me kinda heartsick bc in my childhood nostalgia dreams#my brother and sister used to play online together and do capture the flag#and their little minigame battles in the underground with their cool secret bases were so fun to watch#like that was back when the wifi connection was working and the games were alive and relevant#but i came back to it far far too late. when it was a mere relic and i was alone with no other players#still. hearing the music again brought a smile to my face#pokémon#dppt#i am once again rambling about my very special relationship to sinnoh#i didn’t play pokémon as a kid but also yes i did it was part of my childhood. like without really knowing much about it#the lil character sprites. hearthome city theme#the contests#the crunchy sound of the map opening#and the incomprehensible map itself#the bike and surf music#empoleon and staravia’s cries as they went to use surf and fly#truly. being a younger sibling watching your older sibling play has such an impact on you#it’s all nostalgic to me too i just didn’t know the full context of it myself back then#couple all this with the weird feeling of having played pokémon legends arceus as my first own game#and THEN going and finally checking out dppt#it was like double nostalgia. two different half-nostakgia experiences#just. agh i make fun of gen 4 for a lot of things but it is fundamentally my heart isn’t it#i also literally am incapable of talking about it for more than 5 minutes without bringing pla into it lol#pokeposting

in my latest video i said i would post the full pokemon creepypasta i wrote if someone guessed correctly which one was the fake one, and a few people did so here we go! happy halloween 🎃
Lumiose City Ghost Girl
There are many instances of supposed ghosts appearing in the Pokemon games. From the ghosts of Pokemon Tower in RBY, to the specters haunting the Old Chateau in DPPt, the makers of the Pokemon games clearly had an affinity for the supernatural. This was no different when Pokemon X and Y hit store shelves. Players quickly discovered yet another ghost appearance. Upon entering the second floor of the Fighting Dojo in Lumiose City, the lights will flicker and a girl with the sprite of a Hex Maniac will appear, floating forward before saying “No, you’re not the one,” and disappearing. Many theories arose as to what this could possibly mean. Was it just an easter egg or something more? Could it possibly allude to the existence of a ghost type legendary Pokemon? Eventually, one theory arose that the ghost girl was searching for a trainer with a particular trainer ID number. As to what would happen once she found the trainer she was looking for, no one knew. I played through my copy of X several times, wondering if one day I would get the trainer ID the ghost girl was searching for. However, every time I would first enter the second floor of the Fighting Dojo, her dialogue never changed. I was never the “one.” I never heard about it changing for anyone else either. Eventually, I wrote this theory off as being untrue. Years later, I decided to revisit the game for the first time in a while. I had completely forgotten all about the trainer ID ghost girl theory by this point. I always like to check my trainer ID when starting a new save file; this time, I saw that my ID number was 66666. Interesting, I’d never seen it be five of the same number before. I usually picked Froakie as my starter just as most people did, but for some reason, I felt compelled to choose Fennekin this time. I began to play through the game as normal, but odd things kept happening. The first thing I noticed was that Fennekin’s sprite seemed to be glitched–its eyes were missing pupils, so they just looked blank and creepy. This persisted when it evolved into Braixen and, eventually, Delphox. I also seemed to be encountering a lot more Ghost-type Pokemon than usual, even in areas that I didn’t think normally had any Ghost-types. I was a bit weirded out but didn’t think too much of it–games can break a bit sometimes. Finally, I reached the part of the game where you’re able to fully explore Lumiose City. I entered the second floor of the Fighting Dojo as I always did, fully expecting the ghost girl to appear and give her usual spiel. That isn’t quite what happened, though. As always, the lights flickered and she appeared, gliding up beside me. But the dialogue was different this time.
“It’s you…At long last, I have found you.” For a moment, I was confused, but then I remembered the old trainer ID theory. I thought back to my ID number, 66666, and all the weird things that had been happening as I played the game. The theory was right after all! I was admittedly a little freaked out, but excited to finally find out what this ghost girl thing was all about. She floated to face me, and a battle began. Her battle sprite had creepy, blank eyes, just like my Delphox. I sent out Delphox, and she sent out a Gengar. I knew it wouldn’t be hard to take down since it’s weak to Psychic. Sure enough, one Psyshock was enough to knock it out. “You will…regret that,” the ghost girl said. She sent out another Gengar. I was starting to feel a little underwhelmed by the less than challenging battle. I hit Psyshock again, but this time, her Gengar moved first. It used Destiny Bond. Shit, I thought. The Gengar went down, and my Delphox went with it. Delphox was the ace of my team. While I did have a couple other Pokemon with me, I didn’t use them as much as my starter, so they weren’t nearly as good. However, I figured I still had a shot at winning since the ghost girl only had three Pokemon left. She sent out yet another Gengar. I sent out Furfrou–a Normal type, which would resist Gengar’s Ghost-type attacks. I selected Bite. Once again, the Gengar moved first and used Destiny Bond. I wasn't worried this time because my Furfrou was pretty underleveled, so I didn’t expect it to knock Gengar out in one hit. To my surprise, however, it did, and Furfrou went with it. The same thing happened with my next Pokemon; she sent out another Gengar, it used Destiny Bond, I used a move that shouldn’t have been a one hit KO, but somehow it was, and my Pokemon went down. With my last Pokemon and her last Gengar, I even tried using a non-damaging move, but it still knocked the Gengar out and my Pokemon as well. I was thoroughly annoyed at this point. They had made this battle purposely unwinnable. Pretty lame easter egg…I waited for my character to black out and be transported back to the Pokemon Center. But it never happened. The battle continued. The ghost girl’s sprite appeared on the screen, her eyes now glowing red and her smile more deranged looking than ever. What the hell is going on? I thought. Text came up that said “Ghost Girl used Destiny Bond!” Her sprite slowly faded away and my 3DS abruptly shut off. “What the fuck?” I whispered aloud. I had been playing at night with all the lights off and by this point was more than a little creeped out. I got up to turn the lights on when a sound came from my closet. Immediately, my heart leaped into my throat. I tried to convince myself that it was just a shoebox falling over or something. Slowly, I crept towards the closet door and reached out a shaking hand to grab the handle. I flung it open, and what I saw made me stumble backwards, tripping over something on the ground. I looked up at a pair of glowing red eyes staring out at me from the darkness. I sat on the ground frozen in shock and fear, unable even to scream. The eyes started growing larger, as though whoever or whatever they belonged to was coming towards me. They grew larger and larger until they were right in front of me, and then, nothing… I woke up hours later in a cold sweat laying flat on my back on the bed, my 3DS beside me. My heart started pounding as I remembered what had happened. Had it all been a dream? I scrambled to start up my game, praying that everything would be normal. A sick feeling spread over me when I saw that my save file had been completely erased, with “New Game” the only option on the start screen. I quickly turned off the game, popped it out of my 3DS, and stuffed it away at the back of a drawer. To this day, I have never picked it up again. Thankfully, the glowing red eyes have yet to reappear in my closet, but sometimes, when I’m alone in my room at night, I can’t quite shake the feeling that I’m being watched…

I just hope they actually fix Cynthia’s character in Sinnoh remakes. I know everyone would say to just leave her be as she is, but like.. She’s a boring disappointment and it just really upsets me as a whole.
She does nothing helpful or useful minus one instance where she heals your Pokemon and that is it. her character is very.. bland.. and her design, too.
I would like her more if she was more interesting, but she really does lack a lot of interesting points and substance to her character to bring any actual intrigue to anything she does. You could replace her with any other character, even a random Trainer Class NPC in the DPPt story and nothing will change. She really doesn’t have any reason for being the one to give you a special medicine for the Psyduck, she also has no reason for showing up to give you the TM for Cut in Eterna City, no reason for giving you an incentive to go to Celestic town (You were literally on your way there anyway so what was even the point of that interaction?).
Give her reasons for being there that are actually good. get rid of the unnecessary interactions. Gardenia can give you Cut in Eterna Forest after mentioning to you that she’s going there to train after you beat her or something like that, it makes more sense that way. As well, (the player character you didn’t pick) could be the one to help get the Psyduck out of the way for you, saying they were there by Rowan’s suggestion to help the Psyduck after hearing a report about them. LOOKER can LITERALLY be the one to go into the Distortion world with you and be the one to show up on Spear Pillar and confront Cyrus and Team Galactic, too!! Don’t just shove her in where other characters would make more sense to be.
To solve the problem of the Celestic town delivery Cynthia can show up after Lucas clears the Psyduck, make a mention of her grandmother and the ruins in Celestic town, tell you it’s just up that route and leave up in that exact direction with the final mention of her going to deliver something. That way the player, if they don’t check their map, can know that going up that route will lead to the next town to visit. That would be the best way to fix that interaction and would make her appear to be way more responsible of a trainer, too.
Make her tougher as a battle, too. Even under-leveled I beat her easily. Almost all of her Pokemon are all weak to Ice types, You can get yourself a Snow Warning Abomasnow in Snowpoint City, train it up with Blizzard on hand and you can sweep her with hilariously sad speed. She’s really not at all a problem.
People always talk about her being a struggle or a challenge and being one of the hardest battles in the whole game and that’s far from the actual reality of the situation regarding her character as a whole.
#Ghostie mumbles#this is a long post but I just really needed to come out and say it#gosh I hope they fix her..#she's unbearable as she is currently.

Final Review Response, August 30 - September 5, 2020
I probably shouldn’t say “final”, but... it pretty much is. If this isn’t the last one, the “series” during September would be the last, so it’s close enough.
I had to edit this an hour after first making it since one more review came in.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Heart #002
1) I decieded to review this entire story on my favorite chapter. May I be the first to say great job. This was a great story. I loved every part of it. Very very well made. You are an impressive writer. Though I do feel you went a little to far on torture, I mean Dia being introduced to Pearl as his rival in love, in this chapter, Pearl being tortured in chapter 3 by being so close yet so far, Y being tortured I could actually feel her pain of not being able to eat the food by the way though the interaction between all four dex holders as well as Moon's relationship to Platinum and White and Y as well as White and Y's relationship together it was fun. chapter 5 was fun despite the coin toss thing not coming up again which was great by the way. Further showing how hard the desion would be. Then we have Platinum being utterly crushed by having to make a decision. Then Moon being pulled in. This was filled with so much pain but what good matters of the heart doesn't have pain I guess. I can't say I enjoyed the end because it was filled with pain but I do have to say it was one great piece of work. Keep doing what you do and good luck with other stories. Thanks for making a great fic about the DPPt group the best group in adventures(In my opinion). Oh and for the record I am not a haughtyshipper.
And so you deciding to put the review on the wrong chapter sets the trend for Heart’s chart, as you’ll see later.
Other stories? Check the next post.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Heart #007
1) This was such a suspenseful part as the title made me think pearl had won and I was rooting for diamond. I’m so glad I kept up with this story.
That was what I was going for. Not that it mattered.
2) So much for "where there's a will, there's a way" huh? That was pretty cool of Pearl for sure though. I did really like how you illustrated Platinum's thought process. Went about the same as one might have expected, but it was fun to read nevertheless. It was nice to see that Moon didn't exactly take Dia's side and Pearl at least had a decent shot. And unlike how I think most romance stories would go, Pearl didn't basically get kicked out of the story completely at the end. Fantastic story overall!
Sometimes, willpower just isn’t enough. You can’t will your way through everything, after all.
I considered in having Moon be a bit biased towards Diamond. But I think she wouldn’t want her own opinions clouding her beloved senior’s judgement so tried to be neutral, although the advice she gave pointed to Diamond anyways. But at least Pearl had a good fighting chance all the way to the end.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What a fucking waste of time. The review I had been waiting for came in an hour after I finished this post, so I had to edit this. But the latest chapter is still the absolute minimum, not even tied.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DE #026
1) I'm going to guess the next RF chapter contains neck-ropes
Funny. Chapter 26 was about X and Y, not the BW2 cast.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well look at that. Just like Heart, the latest update is the absolute minimum.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SR #005
1) This seems an AWFUL lot like a certain Korean show that is RUNNING. Running Man
Congratulations. You, like many others, figured out the blatant copy. I’m honestly amazed that so many people recognized it, despite them not being Korean. How do non-Koreans recognize Korean variety shows? Hm.
But I’m also amazed that literally NO ONE recognized the OTHER variety show that I blatantly copied in the other DHC chapters.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I updated SC too, right? And nothing happened this week?
Look at that. The latest update was the absolute minimum. Who would’ve thought.
What other stories did I update in the past year and a half?
Legacy. And look at that. The latest update was the absolute minimum. Who would’ve thought.
And Wings, the forgotten story. Look at that. The latest update was the absolute minimum. Who would’ve thought.
So, in the past year and a half, I updated 5 stories, and every single one has the latest chapter as the absolute minimum. What does this all mean? Next post.

I never got to talk about it but I did go see Detective Pikachu!
And honestly? It’s the most I’ve enjoyed a Pokémon movie in years. Like, since the DPPt trilogy. It wasn’t perfect by any means, but damn was it just a fun movie. It really felt like the creative team took full advantage of the IP and just had fun with it. It has its hit or miss designs, but a lot of them overall were pretty good and faithful to the original designs themselves while adding just the right hint of realism. The Pokémon that are meant to be cute look cute, and the Pokémon that are meant to be terrifying and creepy look terrifying and creepy.
I also felt the human characters, even though they still weren’t the most three dimensional, were more lively and interesting than their flat video game counterparts. I personally like how Tim goes from being a goody-two-shoes as he was in the game to a sort of cynical young adult with his heart in the right place.
What’s weird is I feel like this movie actually made nostalgic nods in a way that actually works? For as much as it’s been bothering me with the recent Pokémon games like with XY, SM and especially Let’s Go, it felt like Detective Pikachu did it in a subtle enough way that I smiled more than I rolled my eyes and thought “Oh, look, another Kanto reference.”
Without saying too much I thought the credits sequence was really freaking cute. It just made my heart gush as a longtime Pokémon fan. And honestly? The movie just kind of did that in general.
The movie was honestly pretty funny too. It had its bad jokes, particularly the low brow ones just there for gross-out humor and a certain joke that just will not age well from a political standpoint. But other than that? The bad jokes passed quickly and there were way more good jokes than bad. The movie even gave itself time to relax and have genuine heartwarming and emotional moments.
Honestly none of the “twists” everyone keeps talking about never really bothered me. I think I just went into the movie hoping to have a good time and damn did I have it. If you just go in wanting to watch a good Pokémon movie, that’s exactly what you’re going to get. Even if it’s different from the tired formula of Pokémon movies in the last 20+ years, it’s for good reasons.
My recommendation is if you’re a Pokémon fan, go check it out! It’s honestly just a cute, sweet, funny, charming movie. Even though it isn’t perfect, I’m just happy that it turned out as good as it did. We’re finally taking a step in the right direction for video game movies! If we really are getting a sequel and it gets as much love as this movie, I am all for that Pokémon cinematic universe. I look forward to seeing it again to catch all of the subtle hints and Pokémon in the background. If you love attention to detail like me, you’re gonna be a sucker for the love put into this movie.

hey if you feel like it, i wanna hear about the headcanons you mentioned for the pokemon protags
-READIES FINGERS-
Oh man you don’t know what you’ve unleashed, I have so many headcanons for the pokemon protags so I’ll shorten them for now. I’m gonna have to put this under a readmore!!! (I’ll also put them in game order or it’ll be a mess)
P.S I am sorry not sorry this is so long, it would actually be longer but it’s super duper late right now- if you (or anyone really) want more for some reason just hit me up!
RGBY
Red - Can talk! But has trouble doing it. Everyone in Pallet Town knows everyone else so that he’s more comfy with the few words he DOES say. Rival Green is supportive enough when they’re travelling that he’ll talk for both him and Red which Red appreciates since Green is ace at reading Red’s body language after all this time. Red’s pokemon are because he secretly finds them cool but he’ll wait for the pokemon to approach him rather than going after them himself. Never caught a legendary. Tugs his hat as a nervous tick, or pulls his hair over his face if his hat is misplaced. Most likely to do something death defying accidentally.
Beta!Blue - “I one up anything you say I technically stopped existing before I ever existed” is her excuse for whenever someone tries to pull something on her. Has a morbid sense of humour despite their cheery disposition. Wears a simple practical outfit that people can easily overlook and forget. Likes to spook people and really loves Lavender Town. Might be a ghost, who knows, Green and Red don’t comment on it. Laughs at her own jokes in her head. Doesn’t battle. Most likely to trick someone into believing something that isn’t true.
GSC
Gold/Hibiki - Has a skateboard and almost pretty much always scuffed up. Has a lot of bruises (whether from the skateboarding or from fighting its unknown), acts pretty aggressive at times to hide his nervousness or panic. Rocket used underhanded techniques to take down people and they had to resort to that back against Rocket, they still feel guilt about that and worry someone will find out. Protective of his pokemon because he’s seen what bad people have done to theirs. Pointy teeth!! People are weirded out by his teeth to be honest but his mum says he gets it from his father and he doesn’t know his father SO. Most likely to initiate contact.
Kris - The more open and happier of the two! She trusts her pokemon to be strong enough to help her through her adventure. Headstrong but sometimes a bit too stubborn. Her obliviousness of some subjects clashes with her stubbornness at time which ends up with her arguing with some people over what she believes in. Wears practical clothes and doesn’t care so much about the style they are as long as she can move about easily in them. Fidgets a lot because she has too much energy to sit still. Talks a lot if you let her. Most likely to be disappointed in you.
RSE
Brendan: A nervous kid, living in the shadow of his dad’s expectations. Looks surprisingly plain outside of his outfit and hat, though later on in the adventure he eventually dyes his hair white on top and grows it out somewhat (May thinks it looks silly but is glad he’s expressing his own self more). Expected to become a professor like his father but genuinely has a passion for looking after pokemon eggs. Doesn’t tell his father this. Has a secret base in a hidden away area where you have to surf above Petalburg city that he’s worked on himself over a long period of time. Ends up being a pokemon breeder. Most likely to tell you off for pokemon neglect.
May: Emphasises with Brendan on living in their parent’s shadow. Unlike Brendan who wants to do something else, May’s goal has always been to be better than her father and prove she can handle herself. Honestly confused behind the motives of Archie and Maxie because she likes everything how it is. Tries her best, sometimes doesn’t succeed. Even when she fails she gets back up again to try over and over and over again (even to the point of desperation with team magma and aqua). Ends up giving the champion mantle back to Steven because she doesn’t want the responsibility, thinking she can’t handle it, Steven says as long as he’s champion she can still have the spot. Spends most her time travelling Hoenn or finally reconciling with her father. Most likely to get migranes.
Other: Brendan is the assistant and May is the protag (mostly because that’s how i played it originally and it’s stuck).
FRLG
Fire: Definitely can talk. His default talking mode is sarcasm however so people tend to avoid asking him to answer something. Avoids snarking at Green because Green snarks right back and then they end up arguing. More serious about his battling, liking being able to plan and use tactics in order to take down an enemy pokemon with unusual methods. Probably punched Giovanni in the face without a second thought. Only wore light clothes ontop of Mt.Silver because despite planning battles he’s bad at planning for himself but has too much pride to ask for a coat. He gets laughed at by Green and Leaf. Draws on Green’s face when he sleeps. Most likely to need saving from himself.
Leaf: Catches pokemon for being cute, fights for the prize money, pretty vain. She uses her skill and charisma to weasel her way out and into stuff, which normally leads to her getting what she wants. Pouts a lot when her childhood friends Fire and Green say no. She believes in earning money now means financial stability later on. As part of a joke, when she learnt Fire was hanging around Mt.Silver she thought it’d be funny to hang around a volcano instead as the second champion to see who’d find her. It wasn’t funny after a week (not it wasn’t Green! Stop laughing!). Most likely to get free stuff.
DPPt
Dawn: Likes to believe herself the most intelligent among her friends, and for the most part she is. Knows a lot, and when someone brings up something she doesn’t know she normally checks the nearest book to learn as much possible about it in order to debate it with the person (even if the said person doesn’t want to anymore). Finds Cyrus’ whole idea really ignorant and silly, if people had no will it wouldn’t be a perfect world anymore because she believes a person cannot experience happiness without first knowing what sadness is to truly appreciate it. Studied the distortion world once, got upset she couldn’t find enough on it in order to prove it either way. Debates a lot with Cynthia. Would probably wear a black dress to a wedding if she didn’t think it was inappropriate. Most likely to get motion sick.
Lucas: If Dawn is the Diamond and Pearl playthrough, Lucas would be the Platinum one. The more instinctual of the two he ends up making weird logical leaps at time that end up for the best and frustrate other people. he knows a bit too much about the distortion world, he feels. Goes into bouts of quietness sometimes and becomes withdrawn into himself unless someone drags him out of it (normally Barry). Normally won’t go out of his way to help someone because he feels it’s not his place to do stuff for other people (why should he? he’s a stranger to them as they are to him), will however do pretty much anything for people close to him. Really dislikes Jupiter for what they did to Barry. Sometimes talks about dark stuff without realizing he’s trailed off the initial conversation with a person. Has Giratina in their party. Most likely to laugh at Barry’s jokes. Owes Barry P20,050.
HGSS
Ethan: Arceus could look at this boy himself and see no sin. A sweet child, Ethan had self confidence issues which slowly decrease over the path of his adventure. Loves the culture of his region and often ends up trailing off his adventure in order to immerse himself in a location. Gets flustered near authority figures because he basically fanboys over them. Almost faints when Lance asks him to help or when they casually chat to Ethan. Ethan however sees the good in everyone to a point that is pretty naive, he even tries to talk to team rocket members such as Ariana before trying to fight them because he believes they can do good. Normally doesn’t work, he ends up getting pretty sad about it later. Proton weirdly enough likes the kid enough. Most likely to befriend a legendary pokemon.
Lyra: Incredibly self assured in herself and her pokemon, she believes as long as there is a will there is a way in the world. Her confidence in herself and the people around normally get them motivated to do stuff. Though she is exceptionally good at battling if you put an egg in her hands she is pretty much useless about how to care about it, she was given an egg once and instead pawned it off on Silver. Took 15 tries to beat Fire in a battle on top of Mt.Silver. Instead of infiltrating team rocket, she instead knocked on it’s front door and attacked them that way. Most likely to choke on a boiled sweet laughing.
BW
Touko: More likely to fight her way out of a situation than talk. Out of all of her friends she was the one to go charging into tall grass and getting everyone in trouble. She seemed like a natural leader, everyone following a foot behind her- even her twin brother Touya. Despite her confidence, N surely and utterly shattered the original confidence over the course of the game and morphed it into another more grim confidence and determination to prove that he was wrong. Becomes the champion of Unova just to run off after N when he flew away. Most likely to jump off a cliff and land at the bottom with the least injuries. Had Reshiram. A hero of Truth.
Touya: The quieter of the two, they prefer their sister leading more as it let’s them step back and think more in order to plan ahead. They’re less battle crazy than Touko, instead liking to bond with their pokemon as friends by talking instead of bonding via battle. Ends up doing the gym battles, but is less serious about them than other people- instead liking to record his adventures in his journal. Spends a lot of his time in White Forest looking after the younger pokemon post-game. Dislikes N and on a lower level Touko for running after N without telling anyone. An unchosen hero of ideals. Most likely to accept the other person is right.
BW2
Rosa: Extremely peppy. Rosa went on her adventure in order to explore the world and experience what it has to offer. Though she thinks her choices through properly she has somewhat of a blind spot when it comes to thinking about the consequences of her actions- because of this people often look out for her. When she came across the pokestar studios she was completely smitten, derailing her plans pretty much to see what the place could offer- accidentally becomes a famous actress because of her odd ways of acting her part in the movies. Cuts her hair shorter (but not too short) after the game. Most likely to make a villain change their ways without realizing.
Nate: A happy child, when he was younger he tagged along with Hugh a lot in order to convince the other boy to be his friend (it worked… eventually). When he latches onto an idea he keeps at it as long as possible especially if the idea is making a new friend. When someone who he knows get hurt or insulted he takes it as an almost personal offense to himself. Has a bad reaction to milk. Hair is hard to tame and it gathers static very easily, really needs a haircut. Got in detentions a lot when at school. Almost constantly late to events unless someone else is with him. Most likely to end up in a different place than he was walking to.
XY
Serena: A mature person for her age. Serena’s ideal future goal is to become an assistant or researcher. Though she seems pretty sweet in her mannerisms, it’s actually her trying to be as polite as possible because she’s not used to the culture of the region so decided to err on the side of caution. Eventually when you get her to open up, her language is a lot more colourful than expected (she will, however tend to avoid more vulgar language). The more comfortable she is around someone the less likely she is to restrain her inner voice. Was really upset when Lysandre betrayed the region as she knew what he meant to other people. Cried when she beat him. Most likely to fake a smile.
Calem: A nice, calm but quiet person, Calem is a person with a passion for Kalos’ myths and legends- having heard them a lot from his father’s fairy tales as a kid. He will put himself in front of his pokemon if he believes that irreversible damage would be done to them (which has happened on more than one occasion, leaving him with quite a few scars across his body). Dabbled in changing his hairstyle a few times but felt uncomfortable without his natural hair colour so changed it back eventually. Ends up with his hair in a ponytail at the nape of his neck post-game. Allowed to ride on Xerneas’ back when travelling. Ends up close friends with AZ. May fall asleep in the middle of a conversation. Most likely to end up at the bottom of a pokemon pile.
ORAS
May: A somewhat neutral person, she normally waits for someone else to do something and to get the first impression of a person before reacting herself. Despite her father being a Gym Leader she didn’t feel the need to overcome him, rather she did the Hoenn league challenge as a way to find herself and what she wanted in life. She will go out of her way to help someone but if there’s something in it for her she will definitely do that quicker than other tasks. Finds Steven amusing because of his hobby and ending up in weird places. Has the biggest wailord plushie in her secret base (which is right infront of the safari centre) that she likes to jump on and sleep ontop of. Do not wake her up early in the morning. Feels somewhat guilty for what happened to Brendan post-game because up until then it had been her doing everything and like Brendan she also thought she’d be the one stopping the meteor too. Doesn’t like looking at Brendan’s ‘scar markings’ and feels somewhat upset that he has them when she got off scott free with Kyogre and Groudon. Most likely to roll down a shopping isle in heeleys.
Brendan: Didn’t really know what he wanted to do with his life, honestly loved helping his father with his work but didn’t feel it was quite him. He eventually decided to travel when May did and found a major passion in the contest competitions. Ends up wearing outfits like his contest one more often than his original outfit, ties feathers to his hair as habit no matter what outfit he’s in. Post-game May was distracted and held up so it was up to Brendan to confront Rayquazza in order for them to stop the meteor in time. Completely disbelieved it when Rayquazza accepted him. Because there wasn’t anything to protect him while he was up there with Rayquazza and Deoxys he has weird markings across his body that’re mostly faded or covered up from when he was exposed to Rayquazza’s mega evolution. Still thinks May is the ‘protagonist’ of their story and still wonders why Rayquazza let him ride on their back even a while after the event. Has Rayquazza on their team but doesn’t use him, and though they didn’t catch Deoxys the pokemon still hangs around them sometimes. Most likely to laugh when nervous.
Other: May is the protag again and Brendan the assistant, though the roles somewhat swap for postgame plot. The orbs of the respective legendaries protects the person trying to order the legendary with it! Otherwise the legendary could kill them before they ordered them to do anything.
SuMo
Sun: In it to win it. An avid battler, he’ll battle anyone who so much as hints they want a fight, doesn’t feel very guilty if they squash someone utterly and completely. Once lost to a preschooler when he was getting overconfident in himself which brought him down to earth. Sun likes to win fights in style and because of his somewhat vain nature he uses a lot of his money in order to buy himself clothes. Quite dramatic, his friends are somewhat exasperated in his dramatisation of every small thing but can’t help but smile when it lightens the mood in the room. Most likely to cry at Mufasa’s death.
Moon: A LOT calmer than Sun, if he’s the one who comments on everything she’s the one that sighs at the person doing it. Normally wears the same plain colour schemes and doesn’t care as much about clothes. The one out of all of her generation’s protagonists to understand the true weight that has been put on their shoulders, and thus takes the whole situation as seriously as possible. Highly dislikes Lusamine and even with Guzma trying to become a better person she’ll believe it when she sees it. Somewhat distrustworthy of Nanu but believes he doesn’t lie. Becomes the league champion partly for monetary gain. Most likely to walk away from a stupid situation.
USUM
Luna: Fallen when she was a baby, her mother never told her she was pretty much adopted so doesn’t know she’s a Fallen. She’s excitable! But sometimes shy when people compliment her. Will help people out if they really need help but probably won’t travel across one side of the region to the other. Pretty clueless about the whole dimension-travelling “mumbo jumbo”. Becomes close friends with the ultra recon squad (especially Zossie) because she feels they’re honestly good people who need help. Most likely protag to trip over a rock. Doesn’t wear any sort of glasses or contacts. Likes clicking her heels together when excited. Most likely to come up with a catchphrase.
Sol: Fallen when he was about 5-6! He vaguely recalls his life before he was adopted by his mother but doesn’t talk about it much because he doesn’t understand very well. He doesn’t go out of his way to help people because he’s pretty recluse (even though he’s living in Alola) and clams up in conversations when talking about personal stuff. Completely dotes on his mother as thanks for raising him despite the trouble he thinks he probably caused. Doesn’t really like the ultra recon squad being able to freely move between worlds because he always thought he was stuck where he is. Wears contacts because he has bad eyesight, has a pair of glasses in his backpack incase. Most likely to backtrack.
Other: Luna and Sol’s Fallen status is what kicks their universe into attracting Necrozma and the Ultra Recon Squad to their universe rather than the original.

Now that you've played swsh, what are ur thots
i honestly enjoyed it!! not sure how the dlc will influence my opinion but currently my ranking of “new gen” pokemon games goes sumo>swsh>xy (i’m not including pre-gen 6 as a point of comparison because it wouldn’t be fair on swsh). the gameplay still doesn’t quite capture that golden era pokemon (gens 3-5) vibe imo - it feels like they streamlined the game a little too much. i didn’t feel like i was going through galar on my own terms since like xy there are literally two optional side areas and both are locked behind surf but unlike xy the locations all felt transient and kinda samey. for instance there are technically four unique snow routes but it feels like 2 (that whole slog around the sixth gym then the mountain pass before wyndon) when actually going through it.
that said, the major characters are far better than in xy - swsh’s gym leaders are more fun to battle against and dynamax is surprisingly enjoyable. my only critique there is that i wish the signature gym mons still posed a challenge after their dynamax ended instead of the whole strategy being smack you with g-max stab move. i want to see gen 5-level trickiness again!! is that too much to ask! i am disappointed that the “elite 4″ thing feels so similar to gen 7′s “the kahunas/captains are also the elite 4″ deal. at its best swsh is really cool but at its bad points it kinda feels like someone slapped the alola formula onto kalos without any consideration of individuality.
the new gen 8 pokemon are…hm. it just be because they’re so new, but i’m honestly not a fan of a lot of designs??? they all feel pretty samey (humanoid with a dark colour scheme) but samey with a pokemon design type that i’m not fond of anyway. i don’t think there are enough new pokemon to justify that kind of repetition - gen 6, for its tiny pool, managed to be incredibly diverse, and gen 7 really only had a couple overlapping-feeling designs. looking back, gen 5 had a lot of that kind of design too, but also gen 5 had such a massive amount of pokemon that it didn’t feel egregious. my fav gen 8 mons are probably alcremie, cursola, eiscue, the snom line, falinks, and polteageist. grapploct has an honourable mention for being fun to use but its design is neutral to me. overall i prefer the design of alolan forms to galarian forms even if galarian forms had more unique things going for them like new evos and stuff. idk all the new pokemon lean too heavily on that black/grey humanoid blueprint and i would have preferred to see some variety.
the soundtrack slaps because when doesn’t it. i’d say it reaches higher highs than gen 7 but much lower lows. fav themes are hop’s battle theme, the gym leader theme (we stan a danganronpa scrum debate theme), stow-on-side’s theme, turffield’s theme, and marnie’s battle theme. side note but marnie’s theme absolutely sounds like a homestuck strife track and you can’t deny it (to be precise, like a mashup of the first part of cascade and atomic bonsai).
i already discussed the story in terms of themes but i will say this game suffers from kalos syndrome but worse - where xy’s midgame was horribly rushed (gyms 3 through 6 are such a blur in a regular playthrough) swsh instead saves all the plot moments until the end and then rushes through it at a breakneck pace. you get no time to digest a single thing that happens. it’s just: here’s an event, now the next one, now the next one, now we’re escalating, now we’re done. i get they were going for that Big Reveal Moment where rose blows up the championship stadium’s dynamax spot just before the final battle against leon, but we needed more investment in the lore. like we already knew team yell wasn’t evil (yet another sumo copypaste oof) so they should have reworked the plot to have sonia ask the player to help her check out some historical sites/archives in a couple side towns (kinda like celestic town in dppt) where she’s threatened by a mystery group of steel type users who then turn out at the end of the game to be rose’s corporate lackeys. the finale still plays out kind of the same except we know more about the lore and eternatus is actually built up to instead of…that mess. other than that i do think the whole gym circuit is as well paced as you can get in a truncated region like galar. just wish the lore side had been given a crumb more attention. like, they could’ve just worked in zacian/zamazenta without the whole darkest day thing and had a tightly focused game on striving to be champion (a la classic kanto) and fleshed out the rivals a little more to make up for it but you really get the sense tpc/game freak wanted to have their cake and eat it too.
overall i’ll give swsh a 7/10. very good, but if they’d taken their time a little more with the pacing and committed to the type of story they wanted to tell instead of cramming everything in haphazardly to appeal to both classic Catch Em All Be The Best fans and golden-era Mythical God Pokemon Threatens To Destroy The World fans, i think it could become really good. if they nail the dlc i can see swsh being on par with usum in the end - not quite as well written as the original sumo, but really fun games you’d actually want to sit through and 100% complete.
#Anonymous#long post#pokemon swsh#i didn't mention it but the dex thing really doesn't bother me. my main game as a kid was diamond version lmao#if i can get years of enjoyment out of a game that only featured 25% of all known pokemon in its regional dex then i can enjoy swsh
