Vaibhav & Sana - The Unique Story
Status: completed (Year 2022)
Area &Type: 2,500 sft 3 BHK apartment
Location: Hebbal, Bangalore, Karnataka
The initial brief for this project was to create a contemporary home with a pastel color palette, with the touch of glamour and ample storage space. We incorporated luxurious elements such as veneer, marble, and mirror finish feature walls in the living and dining areas. The floating ceiling design and circular metallic copper artwork along the main entrance add a dramatic touch to the house. The kitchen features a champagne lacquered glass finish with a marble texture backsplash and rose gold finish profile handles, adding a touch of elegance to the space. In the master bedroom, we created a grand feature wall design with wall panels and fabric, along with custom-made Aristo wardrobes.
For the newborn daughter’s bedroom, we opted for a green, white, and beige color scheme with customized wallpaper to add a playful touch to the room. The result was a beautiful and functional space that exceeded the client’s expectations.

Interior designer Cath’s apartment definitely proves limited square footage needn't hold you back from going big on style and color.
The living room/kitchen might be on the small side, but it crams in so much color and pattern and quirky shapes and styles that just totally distracted from the smaller proportions of the room. Salmon pink walls complement the darker, more muted pink of the velvet sofa. The pops of lilac add another layer of color.
Cath had to add a quirky touch and replace the handles with amber knobs for the top cabinets and lilac agate on the bottom. The mirrored backsplash really helps to make the kitchen feel less boxy, tricking the eye into thinking the room continues beyond.
Leading on from the living room is a small but incredibly striking dining room. It's the standout room in the apartment, with all four walls and the ceiling covered in a bold wallpaper. The dining furniture are antique market finds.
The bold wallpaper theme continues in the hallway with a 50s inspired print. The colors are softer and more muted than in the dining room but there's still that space-expanding effect.
Cath fell for this cheery tulip print used on the headboard and that became the starting point for the bedroom. The headboard and red lacquer tables with the backdrop of the softer pinks and blues gives the space a contemporary edge, despite all the vintage pieces.
A lot of the bedroom furniture is sourced from vintage fairs or passed on from family.
The second bedroom has the most neutral color scheme of all the rooms, because of its small size Cath wanted to stick with a lighter palette to keep the room feeling fresh and bright.
The bathroom is actually the one that came with the apt. however, Cath has of course given it a colorful makeover, painting the walls and replacing the tiles with high impact rainbow stripes.

Tropical plants fill indoor courtyard at Casa Las Vistas in Costa Rica
Design studios Zürcher Arquitectos and Taller KEN took cues from the lush forests around San José while designing this courtyard house.
Casa Las Vistas is set into a hillside that overlooks the landscape surrounding Costa Rica's capital city.

The residence was designed by local firm Zürcher Arquitectos, while the interior design was overseen by Taller KEN, which has offices in San José, Guatemala City and New York.
It was created for a couple – Hector Anchia and Indiana Trejos – and their three young boys. Anchia is the owner of two companies: Kamalio, a retailer of furniture and finishes, and AIE Construction, which built the house.
The house is set over three levels
Encompassing 743 square metres, the rectilinear home rises three levels. Exterior walls are made of poured-in-place concrete, with steel framing incorporated into certain areas.
Generous windows frame expansive views of the terrain, while deep overhangs provide shade. Warm-toned iroko wood wraps the underside of the roof eaves.

Within the dwelling, interiors are arranged to keep the focus on exterior views. Earthy materials such as slate, wood and marble help tie the home to its site.
"The refined material palette and curated furnishings draw attention to the natural surroundings, bringing greenery into the interiors of the home," said Taller KEN.
The living area is open plan
The ground floor encompasses an open-plan living and dining area, an adjoining kitchen, a small bedroom, and laundry facilities.
In the kitchen, the team incorporated porcelain tile flooring and an island topped with Nero Marquina marble, with side counters made of a white quartz composite.
Exterior walls are made of concrete
Cabinets have a black lacquer finish or walnut veneer. Backsplashes are covered with black-and-white tiles with a zig-zag pattern.
The double-height living space features tile flooring, leather sofas and a wood-and-metal coffee table. The airy room is "dominated by the long, arching line of a tropical plant that reaches up toward iroko wood ceilings" added the studio.

Just off the lounge area is an indoor garden filled with lush plants, including the pacaya palm and several umbrella plants.
The courtyard is surrounded by walls wrapped in grey porcelain tiles. A stretch of skylights brings in natural light.
"Here, in contrast within its minimal surrounds, nature is presented as a striking sculptural statement," the team said.
A wooden staircase ascends past the indoor garden
A staircase made of wood, metal and glass leads to the upper level, which houses sleeping areas. A bridge traverses the courtyard and separates the master suite from two additional bedrooms and lounge space.
Like the lower level, the top floor maintains a connection to the home's tropical context. In one of the corner bedrooms, bamboo plants press up against tall windows.

The master bathroom is fitted with round mirrors, walnut-faced vanities and a glass-walled shower. A glazed opening connects to a patio with potted plants and an outdoor shower.
The home's lowest floor holds a lounge, kitchenette and dining area, which are fully open to the outdoors. A large canopy offers protection from the sun.

Just off the lounge space is a tented hanging chair and steps leading down to a verdant lawn.
Known for its scenic terrain, Costa Rica is a popular spot for homes that embrace the natural context. Other dwellings there include a residence by Studio Saxe that is covered with charred teak wood, a concrete villa in the jungle by Formafatal and Refuel Works, and a treehouse-inspired nature retreat by Olson Kundig Architects.

Florida Coastal Condo Interior Design
Beautifully designed by the talented interior designer Lisa Michael Interiors, LLC (previously featured here – you need to see it!), this vacation condo located in North Palm Beach features resort-style living with Moroccan flair. Here, the designer shares more insights about this project:
“The water club way project is unique in that it transports the homeowners to the feeling of being in an exotic locale. Through the use of color, texture, materials, and specialty paint applications, the finished look pulls from various design genres that coexist together giving the home an eclectic collected feel. The living areas within the condo were designed to create an experience for the homeowners, each possessing its own unique identity and sense of place. The condo has a tropical and exotic feel, but also an ethnic flair with a contemporary bohemian twist.”

Beginning in the elevator vestibule you are introduced to what lies ahead.
The hand painted stenciled walls in vibrant orange and a shimmery gold wash create a backdrop for a charpoy bench. A large painting with a moody collage of dots mimics the texture of a Moroccan fabric, giving the home a sense of being in an exotic locale.

Upon entering into the foyer, the walls are saturated in the same vibrant orange that draw the eye up to the mirrored inlay chevron tile and custom Murano glass triple pendant, enveloping the space. A grass cloth entry table sits below a rattan sun shaped mirror adding a sense of whimsy and a tropical touch (Selamat).

The light fixtures in the main living space were carefully selected for their natural elements, adding texture and creating a cohesive lighting story. Both the pendants and beaded fixture were custom ordered from Ro-Sham-Beaux I believe that natural elements calm a space and soften the architectural envelope lending a sense of comfort and warmth.

Living Room
The main feature of the living space is the custom designed Moroccan inspired étagère backed by a hand painted and stenciled paisley wall in an indigo blue.
Television console and media piece: Designed by the interior designer. She custom designed the media piece with integrated etagere. Finish is Benjamin Moore Snowfall White and silver leaf.
Accent Wall
The hand painted paisley wall creates interest and depth to the space, while the étagère was designed to house the television, while adding shelving for décor. Other key design elements in the living space are the contemporary dramatic and visually engaging rattan lounge chairs.

Coffee Table

The outdoor area design continues the color story and resort concept outside and connects the interior and the exterior through color. Table was selected for curved lines and cut out detail. Pop of orange on the chair cushions melds with interior orange accents while the Talavera pottery adds ethnic vibe and woven modern rope chair juxtaposes with dining area for interest and texture.

Den
The den has west views of the city and also functions as an additional guest bedroom with a sleeper sofa.
Enveloping the remaining walls is a saturated cobalt blue that plays back to the linen sleeper sofa dressed with exotic textiles found on the throw pillows. A rattan coffee table juxtaposes with a contemporary lacquered grass cloth desk for her husband who works from home. The windows are framed out with custom draperies with a batik leaf print from Robert Allen fabrics.

Oceanfront Penthouse Renovation
Designed by Corine Maggio of CM Natural Designs (previously featured here, here, here and here), this ocean front penthouse, located on the island of Coronado, CA, is layered in natural textures.
Here, the designer share more details about this oceanfront penthouse renovation:
“The open concept layout is light, bright and airy with a sophisticated beach style. We loved collaborating with our clients on this home to showcase their simple and elegant aesthetic. Each space is optimized for entertaining and comfortable living while still taking full advantage of the breath-taking views. The textiles used are performance fabrics to encourage the indoor/outdoor living that the space calls for located directly at the coast. Oceanside living at its finest!”

Hi everyone! How great it is to have you on the blog today! It seems that this week flew by. Do you feel the same way? In fact, the entire month went by so fast…. but I won’t complain about that. I am grateful that spring has arrived after a very long and cold winter.

2 One-Bedroom Apartments with Modern Color Schemes
A one-bedroom apartment is just enough. It can be perfect for a single person, or a young couple. It leaves its occupants with just enough space to live comfortably and entertain a few friends, but not so much space that every weekend is filled with dusting or every holiday becomes an excuse for overnight guests. The two apartments featured here have a few things in common. First, they both have just one bedroom. Second, they both use modern color schemes, with natural wood elements as well as pretty jewel-toned accents. Take a look and see how a one-bedroom apartment with the right designer can be a dream home.

The first set of photos is from a concept for a small apartment design concept in Kiev. In the living room, nesting coffee tables make for a practical and stylish furnishing.
A plush purple sofa, however, serves as a focal point for the main living space.
Recessed lighting is always a good choice above a television since it can be easily dimmed or brightened depending on whether the television is in use.
There is not a ton of extra space for dining, but the simple, modern bar is perfect for one or two people.
Black and white dining room pendants give a nod to the 1960s without going too far towards retro.
Dark wood cabinetry and contrasting white lacquer cabinets creates a really open feeling in the kitchen.
White brick is chic and sophisticated, in addition to making a perfect frame for the natural light coming in from the terrace.
The bedroom brings back the lovely jewel-toned purple from the living room sofa with the plush headboard and bedding.
Bedroom pendant lights dangle delicately over a cute caged sidetable and give the bedroom a bit of a romantic glow.
White and wood again work well with the natural lighting in the space, with wood flooring adding another sophisticated touch.
In the bathroom, the black and white motif comes back, but the design is more creative than many bathrooms with a similar color scheme.
The textured black wall tiles add a lot of visual interest to the space and still work well with the white stone.
Not many people go to the length of having decorative vases and freshly cut flowers in their bathroom, but it can make a huge and beautiful difference.

The second apartment measures in at 48 square meters (516 square feet), which is certainly not sprawling but leaves plenty of room for creative design.
As with the first apartment, a richly colored sofa takes center stage, this time in a royal blue. The use of accessories like unique plant stands in a small space can be very effective when not overdone.
A living room full of neutral color feels big and open, despite the relatively small size. Recessed lighting and big windows help a lot.
The use of texture is another commonality with the first space we saw. A soft gray rug, textured sofa, smooth curtains, shiny coffee table — all have their own purpose and invite touch.
Rather than typical hung art, this space uses wall murals, which can also make the home feel bigger.
A white eat-in kitchen with suspended plants and sleek, modern furniture is a beautiful place to breakfast.
The Dome Pendant in black nearly disappears in its sleekness.
Natural wood walls and cabinetry are a timeless choice for the open kitchen area, while a small bar is idea for a quick meal or drink.
Plenty of overhead lighting comes in handy at night and keep the space feeling big and open.
A black and white architectural poster of the Space Needle is a creative nod to Seattle while also bringing in a bit of that landmark’s modern, unique design.
Pulling on a pair of boots has never been so luxurious as when done in this perfectly situated nook by the front door.
White tile flooring is easily cleaned and encourages the floor to stay free from clutter.
Again, the blue tones come back in the bedroom. Here, a plush gray bed with blue bedding is instantly reminiscent of the ocean.
Who wouldn’t want to drift off to sleep on a stationary barge, rocking gently in the bay.
The bathroom is bright and beautiful with the flattering ring light mirror making a practical addition.
The accessories in the bathroom design stay out of the way of the more creative elements, like this minimalist toilet paper holder that was chosen as opposed to the more unique toilet paper holders that are available.
The tessellated tiles are subtle but stylish.
Wood paneling and a glass shower wall finish this simple and modern design.
