The people have spoken! The weird dynamic between Aemond and Alicent is indeed an accidental portrayal of parentification resulting from the writers trying to use the "Oedipus complex" and broad undefined "mother issues" to set up his relationship with Alys.
The casting does not help though. Or rather... it does help.
Original question:
Honestly unsure about how much credit we should be giving the writers. For anything. But let's start with this: Are they the ultimate case of parentification or is the casting just really weird?

I mean he looks older than her. These actors are only 3 years apart playing mother and son.
OR is it just the writers who don't really know what they're doing stumbling into writing an actual real-life dynamic that makes sense, but it's only an accidental side-effect from trying to use broad, undefined "mother issues" and the Oedipus complex to set up his relationship with Alys Rivers?
