#and how do you convince fandom people to write a short story that doesn't focus on blorbos?

i'm all ears for the book idea homie
You would not believe the confusion of this ask because I completely forgot about that post lmao
Anyway, yeah I thought it would be cool if we, as the fnaf community, made our own fnaf short story series for funsies. I was thinking without considering how to do it, so in my head I was saying it would be dope as hell if a bunch of us writers and artists got together and did a little series of spooky horror story fnaf books that followed the same format as the actual books, but with more art stuff for the artists to join in and... better writing in a lot of cases lmao. I was thinking of physical books at the time like how I've seen some some of those big community zines that raise money for charity but I have no idea how to do that so...
Now that it's not stupid in the morning before I've slept, the easiest way to do something like this I guess would to like... make a PDF maybe? Three stories per 'issue' I guess and release it for free of course! (Unless someone knows how to make 'pay what you want' with any money gained going to a good charity? I dunno. This would just make it optionally free) Someone could do epilogues for each one, so one long story over however many we make, which could be fun.
Could put it on a Neocities (which is a free website thingo that's also free to view) or something too. I dunno, it could be fun though! One collaborative project, linking together writers from different corners of the overall fnaf fandom to do what the source material is doing but better... that'd be pretty fucking cool ngl
The overall idea of what's actually getting written and stuff is where I'd pobably lose people though. The idea is basically 'do what the books are trying to do but better', as in... 'expand on the fnaf universe in short, fnaf themed stories' and not 'Blorbo Adventures: The Twink Robots Kiss' kind of stuff. So like... new animatronics, new attractions, new Fazbear themed horrors, people dying or whatever, possessed robots, terrible business decisions, elaborate coverups and... I dunno I've not read that many lmao but you get what I mean. Basically, do what you want, go crazy, just don't write your Canon Blorbos as you normally would if you were posting on Ao3.
I suppose it's like... Fazbear themed original fiction? Kind of? It could include re-imaginings of stuff of course, since that's part of what's in these books to begin with, but I still think it's probably not fan community oriented enough to ever see the light of day, ya know? Would be really fucking cool though!
Could do an interest check on it I suppose? How many people hate the books so much or want to write general spooky stories enough to join a poject like this? I dunno. If this post gets enough traction, I'll do a proper interest check and we'll see about it.
Also if none of this makes sense, you can for sure ask for clarification my brain is... not braining today :(

Why AcoMaF is a subjectively BAD BOOK
Point 1: feels like a different series
Acomaf does NOT feel like a sequel to acotar. The main reason being your introduced to a whole new cast of characters without warning. Typically, in a series your introduced to your main characters in the first book and the cast that will come and go throughout the rest of the series (ex pjo, six of crows, the cruel prince) you get new characters introduced at some points but you already know all the really important people. in acomaf though we basically forego the og acotar cast (which was small) and given a HUGE cast of important characters. Along with a new, large plot that really didn't get footing in acotar. The only thing that carries over between the two books in Feyre. Tamlin and the spring court hardly count in my mind cause its so drastically different from how it was written in acotar
point 2: characters, their motivs, and their writing
I can go on for AGES about the character assassination of Tamlin. Sjm completely re-wrote his character. There was no actually foreshadowing for this behavior in acotar and i will talk on this more in a later point. But back to our main girl Feyre. Feyre wasn't horrific in this book (shockingly) however she frequently states things that aren't true. Example, she says that "He [Tamlin] hadn't tried to kill her [Amarantha], hadn't crawled for me." which is false. to quote acotar "I found Tamlins eyes- wide as he crawled towards Amarantha, watching me die, and unable to save me while his wound slowly healed, while she still gripped his power." I could also cite early passages where Tamlin is BEGGING Amarantha to stop hurting Feyre. We are told why in acotar Tamlin couldn't fix everything (giving reason to Feyre having to do the trials etc etc) however this is promptly forgotten in acomaf to villainize Tamlin and give Feyre some sort of motive. A completely unnecessary thing. SJM can't commit to what she wrote previously, having to retcon things instead of thinking up some other motivation or reasoning. Its frankly lazy and makes the story feel cheap. I made many highlights in acomaf where something is directly retconned.
point 3: SJM and writing anger issues and mentally ill characters.
This will mainly focus on Tamlin as his character and his issues are quite personal to me.
Tamlin is written to have anger issues. these are vaguely hinted at in acotar when, after Rhysand comes and threatens the shit out of everyone Tamlin orders everyone to leave the dining room and then takes his anger out on the furniture (that is what is hinted at anyway) and then in acomaf these outbursts of anger are amped up. And used to go "look! he's actually evil and a bad person!"
As someone who has anger issues, a short temper, whatever you want to call it, finds this really disheartening. It's clear to me that sjm doesn't actually put thought or care into writing characters with tempers. Its also extremely biased as Rhysand is written to have a short temper however this is never a problem, but it is with Nesta and Tamlin. Now this is not me excusing abuse, but a character having anger issues does not equal abusive and bad like the acotar fandom heavily does with Tamlin. In general Tamlin's character is so dissolved in acomaf its just sad. SJM didn't even try to write a convincing character descent. At some point in writing acotar she fell in love with Rhysand and decided she wanted to change the love interest. (she had done this before in throne of glass) and while that's fine choosing to use Tamlins anger issues and protectiveness to attempt to write an antagonist was a cheap cop out. She couldn't even commit to making him an actual villain. Shes just capitalizing off of mental issues.

Keir's Fanfictions Masterpost
All fics with descriptions, categorized by most recently written and sorted by fandom, plus author's special commentary
Death Note
Top Five (WIP): AU where Light and Misa went to Wammy's alongside Near, Mello, and Matt. L asks them to help solve the Kira case, promising that whoever does it will be his successor.
Author's Comments: Very long, very complicated, but totally worth a read if you love high-action plots! Lots of little personal additions thrown in, including expanded shinigami lore and a heavy focus on the inner workings of the Yotsuba Group.
The Beatles
A Goldfish Bowl Life: Or, four times Julian saw his father and one he didn't. A character study on Julian Lennon's childhood.
Author's Commentary: This fic gave me a real appreciation for Julian Lennon! Also I submitted it as a writing final project lmao. I got a good grade if that convinces you to read it. Anwyay, I loved writing this, I love bashing my problematic fav (John Lennon), and I loved being able to write this as "homework" and use a May Pang documentary as "research".
The Walk On Trilogy Part 3: Samsara Can Take a Day Off: The continuing story of Walk On, this time from George's perspective. Fate has finally forced him to confront his crumbling family and try to make things right, no matter how difficult it is for him.
Author's Commentary: I really don't remember a lot of this... again, it was at a very strange point in my life. I still love this series with all of my heart, but I can't really describe what happens in this. COVID becomes a more prominent theme, obviously, and the next stage of the story begins. It actually ended early... I was planning two more parts from Lee and Dhani's perspective, but I cut them to start Top Five. I still reccomend you check it out, if you want to! Just know, this isn't really Walk On as I envisioned it. That, my friend, is on its way.
The Walk On Trilogy Part 2: And Why Not You?: The continuing story of Walk On, this time from the perspective of Ritchie's son Jason. With his own dependency on adderall and recent theft charges, it seems Jason will fall down the same shitty rabbit hole as his father, left to let down everyone around him until he's gone. Unless, of course, his equally troubled coworker Julian can pull him out of his rut. Doubtful, but possible.
Author's commentary: I loved writing from Jason's perspective, and more Julian is always appreciated in my fics lol. Again, I don't consider this trilogy one of my best works, but I appreciate it for what it is. I will say... COVID happens at the end of this. This was sort of a coping mechanism for me at times, so it just wormed its way in lol. Also bonus points if you like the movie 'Wings of Desire' (also called Die Himmel Ueber Berlin, sorry I can't do the umlaut lol).
The Walk On Trilogy Part 1: Digging a Hole and Drinking Wine: A troubled story of the alcoholic owner of a failing music shop, Richard Starkey. With his four kids and husband George to look after, he doesn't think he'll make it much longer before snapping and doing something awful to himself. Set in a pseudo-1980s Liverpool.
Author's Commentary: A lot of people seemed to really like this work, and I do to. To be honest, though, I could never fully realize my vision for the trilogy. This was written at a very weird point in my life? I have some plans for it, but for now, if you enjoy soul-crushing family-based angst with lots of substance abuse and dysfunctionality, enjoy!
Bread and Babies: Short and sweet one-shot about John Lennon baking bread. That's it. That's the fic, folks.
Author's commentary: It's bread. Yummy yummy.
A Dove in the Rosebox: Based on cirilee's wonderful Octopus's Garden AU, former pirate captain turned colonial widow Yoko Ono invites the remainder of her old crew to New York to visit her. Some, of course, couldn't make it--her husband, John, or the sea witch Ethelein, a close companion of his. However, with the arrival of a mysterious and monstrous bird, she and her crew are forced to revisit Ethelein's prophecy, hoping they can make sense of it before it consumes them.
Author's Comments: Colonial America meets a Yellow-Submarine inspired mermaid fantasy. My most cherished fanfiction, and the one that started my writing career! What's strange is that I never wrote down my interpretation of the Octopus's Garden AU, but this is all based on it. It may be a bit hard to understand, but I think it's so good I wrote and submitted an essay about it. Anyway. I can't praise it enough, although I am VERY biased. (Ethelein is the siren name I made for Brian Epstein by the way, in case you were wondering.
If you decide to check them out, enjoy! I appreciate it!
