I actually had a similar experience to you, just kinda deciding to start stanning a kpop group. I was looking for a girlgroup and I was dabbling between itzy and other ggs when the iconic 2021 MAMA performance dropped. After that performance, I was hooked.

I immediately fell in love with lia (I miss her everyday 🥺) and I haven’t looked back since. Ironically, I also started to appreciate yuna and the yulia ship more on this hiatus. Pretty long ask, but I guess what I’m asking is, how’d you settle on your bias? Was it a long and definite process? Or does it change by the weather?

I’m really loving WSC and I’m definitely hyped to see what “chekhov’s somi” is all about 👀.

hahaha well...i got in deep really fast :P. (marathoning itzy? itzy! also really helped me get up to speed quickly)

and yeah i wonder how many people end up stanning our way (general interest in kpop and wanting to find a group to stan) vs. the opposite (have a particular group be their introduction to kpop by way of stanning them first)...interesting question! and god the 2021 MAMA performance is insane, would turn anyone into a fan (itzy's award show performances are nuts, i hope they like. ever do one again)

LIA 🥺🥺🥺 i love her so much man. she was a big reason why i got into itzy too, i feel like she has such a unique voice (just like...the tone of it) that i've never heard in pop at all, much less kpop. she's really got the special sauce. and YES re: yuna (and yulia). i kinda get the feeling (mostly based on vibes) that yuna as the youngest really felt like she had to step it up in lia's absence, and also that's just kind of coinciding with her starting to hit her stride as an adult and an artist. watching her blossom this year has been such a treat!

lol it's like. both, somehow. my bias is ryujin, and i think i knew that almost immediately, just a vibe thing. i liked her personality (both when she was younger and still now as a more mellowed out adult), her singing voice, her rap cadence, and especially her dancing, which always looks completely effortless somehow.

...but then it's like. itzy is so annoying. they're all so DIFFERENT both as performers and personalities, and it's easy to fall in love with any one of them. so the more i got to know about their personalities, and performance styles, etc., the more i realized that even if ryujin is my bias, the entire group is just a revolving door of bias wreckers so it's gonna be hell stanning this group (in the best way possible)

so glad you're enjoying WSC. no one is more hype for chekhov's somi than me hahahaha she's one of my absolute favorite ensemble cast members of the fic. somi will actually appear (sort of) in ch 3 of Smoke Signals (set in the summer right after Yeji and co's freshman year), a while before her first actual appearance in the main story in WSC.

i'm honestly itching to write all the YG sequences...can't wait to finally move to my new apartment and start my new job in august so i can settle in and really accelerate my posting schedule!!

I've never really gotten into Black Pink, I cant tell you why exactly but I think it's because I've never actually connected with the music??? And the fandom clashes were too often with Blinks. Dont get me wrong, a lot fandoms are like this- everyone has toxic/crazy fans but man, the things some of them said were HORRIFIC.

Honestly I liked dynamite as well LMAO- I like all of their music, generally. From their early days debuting to now. I became an Army when I was young and they were freshly debuting, like around 7-8 and so perhaps I have an overwhelming bias but I support wherever they want to go with their music. I'm literally a metal head that listens to Kpop the other half of the time 🕴 these dudes made me switch my taste sjdhsksj. I also dont listen to pure rap BUT FOR JHOPE, RM, AND YOONGI - Anything is possible. I say that as if I dont have Jhopes music on repeat aidjsjsj

And like, the only people I see get pissy over Jimins looks is people who dont like them. I've seen "army"s talk shit over Namjoons and Hoseoks looks though. Dont get me wrong you can have your opinions and preferences but you ain't gotta be an ass about it and express it ever 5 minutes and where the idols can see it. I was fuming when I saw it; they were so rude and disrespectful.

yeah i didn't really have an ult group nailed down for a year or two!! i mean, i loooved bts, but i listened to a lot of everybody. it wasn't until i got into seventeen and ateez and monsta x that i was like oh my god they're it for me <333 so bp was catchy at the beginning but once i settled down it's not my style!

yeeeaaaah, i don't mean to be an asshole bc i know not all blinks are toxic but i've had so many bad experiences with them that it's like, better safe than sorry, right? i try to stay off of twitter and i've been distancing myself from kpop tiktok lately (i really only see stuff from my svt moots) so that i can hopefully avoid stupid fanwars

dynamite isn't the same style as the rest of their songs and it's an entirely different vibe so i can see if you view bts as their other songs and then this new one gets released and it's totally different, how it wouldn't be pleasant. but it's a guilty pleasure of mine!! it's just a feel-good kinda thing <3
