god eagle vs shark is so.... clenches fist
#bad boy#like the suicide weighs so heavily on the movies tone once we hit jarrods hometown#the foreshadowing is masterful and Painful#its obvious taikas father issues have on this film and how fathers issues directly translate onto their children#im not gonna get into psychoanalyzing this man i have never met and never will but as someone coming of age with maladptive father WOOF#jarrod is obviously living in his dead brothers shadow in both his fathers eyes and his minds eye but the reality is#hes not his brother#we see him try to fit that role in his reworking by obsessively going after his childhood bully#and saying that hes dating his brothers fiance#but he doesnt fit#and thats why he's alive#and it took someone from outside the clusterfuck of that family unit taking an interest in him and trying until she was done#and man i dont like the woman as a savior perspective and it wasnt my favorite execution but#damn does taika do happy sad well#definitely his first feature length#definitely worth the watch#idk it hit what i was feelin#eagle vs shark#they speak#stuff of note its an early 2000s movie so watch accordingly
