Sims 4 Fontenot Legacy - Seeing Double

Sigrid and Robin decided that the girls should get to know their twin cousins a little more, so the two packed up and made a visit to Sigrid's sister Yolanda's house, where she cares for three of the four siblings.

Sigrid: Hey sis, good to see you.

Yolanda: Great to see you, too. So glad you guys could come.

Sigrid: Well we haven't been to your new place yet, it's about time. By the way, looks pretty nice in here.

Yolanda: We're still getting settled and all, but the necessities and a couple of fun things are here, so that's what matters.

Yolanda: Even more importantly, I'm glad the twins are finally getting some cousin bonding time with each other! It's been a long time coming!

Sigrid: Tell me about it! Who knew there'd be THREE sets of twins in our family!

Yolanda: You and Virginia must've drank some special potion or something.

For anyone new or who may have forgotten, Sigrid and Yolanda have another sister, Virginia. She gave birth to two sets of twins, boy-boy, and girl-girl, before her untimely death thanks to neighborhood stories. Her ex-husband gained custody of one of the boys during the divorce process, while Virginia got the other son and the girls, who were born after the divorce process was complete. Yolanda lived with her to help care for the brood before she passed, and she took on the responsibility of caring for them exclusively afterward.

Meanwhile, Alma makes her first official introduction to her big cousin and fellow twin, Camila. She's... a little less than impressed 😆

But the family has a good time together! Alma eventually grows comfortable around the bigger kids and Audrey spends time talking people's ears off with her sweet little voice and bountiful imagination.

Robin: It's really nice that the girls get this time with their cousins.

Yolanda: Tell me about it. Seems like the girls especially seem to be bonding well. It's a shame Kirk's twin couldn't be here today.

Robin: How does that work out usually? I'm sure Kirk feels a little weird not being with his twin when he's surrounded by reminders.

Yolanda: It's... a sensitive point for him. He may not say it, but I can tell he feels like a part of him is missing. What can I do though? Sergio was granted custody after the divorce. I'm doing what I can to care for the three others but... adding another to the mix? I'm not sure I could handle it.

Robin: It's a difficult situation. I can only imagine the impact it's having on you guys. But I want you to know we've got your back.

Yolanda: That means a lot, Robin. Thanks.

Robin: Of course. That's what family's for.

Yolanda: Speaking of family, you know I have to ask, when are you finally going to tie the knot with my sister?

Robin chuckles.

Robin: We're working on that. We wanted to wait for the girls to get a little older so they could enjoy the festivities too.

Yolanda: Well don't wait too long. I wanna see my sister married before the grays start coming in. She's not getting any younger!

Robin: Well she'll always be young and beautiful in my eyes.

Yolanda smirks.

Yolanda: Smooth. That gets you some brownie points.

As the evening progresses, Kirk finds himself sitting in the kitchen away from the rest of the family. Audrey ends up coming into the room to keep him company. Though Kirk is a kid of few words, his expression shows that he enjoys the company of his little cousin.

Sigrid finds that Alma is being extra loving today too, being in a seemingly much better mood. She chalks it up to the increased activity and attention of her cousins, but she enjoys the affection nonetheless. Robin notices it too and can't help but smile.

All-in-all, the visit to Yolanda's house is a success, and the two households look forward to the next time everyone can get together, hopefully with all sets of twins together.

"Through Many Dangers, Toils, and Snares"

TW: Drug and addiction talk, references at dubious s* xual behavior

One thing they do successfully in the earlier seasons that gets worse over time is establishing characters with layers and dichotomies. Spencer is a brainiac wizz-kid who can do no wrong in the world of academics, including sports. They didn't even go with giving her the stereotypical nerd's aversion to sports, they let her be equally as athletic as booksmart. She's a likeable, well-rounded character, and I feel like that's important when you know that her storyline includes a struggle with drug use. It may not be a perfect arc, but there are elements of it that make it worthwhile to have included, anyways. She shows us that some people end up engaging with addictive substances for reasons we don't even think of, she shows us how desperate it can be sometimes to try to keep up with literally everything when you're in burn-out. The fact that she is a likeable character and you are probably rooting for her to get better is so important. Addiction is so deeply stigmatized that the people who struggle with it are largely dehumanized and defined by others by their condition instead. The showrunners wanted us to see her desire specifically for men her sister dates as a character flaw, and to a point it may be (although, if she had some psychological complex that made her specifically want her sister's boyfriends, it wasn't explored explicitly in cannon), but I refuse to see Melissa's taste in hot trash as Spencer's problem. Getting a crush on an older man isn't a crime, but hooking up with a 14-year-old is.

Jenna SA-ed her step brother and because of that I personally feel conflicted about her character for the entirety of the story. There is something about the house fire causing her blindness that feels like delicious karma, yet I still have sympathy for her and when events come up where her sight may be restored I'm hoping for it to be successful. I want to be repulsed by her and feel like every awful thing that's dished out to her is deserved, but I can't. Her existence, for me, brings up questions about how much punishment is reasonable for atrocities; how do we find the line between "she deserves it" and "we could go on like this forever but it's helping no one"? How much should someone be punished and for how long when they have caused someone unspeakable, lifelong trauma but torturing them will not alleviate the burden of their victim(s)? Can any kind of punishment ever match this kind of a crime- and if we decide that it can't, what options are we left with? Jenna makes me wonder what "should" happen.

And then, of course, there's Alison- who seems to have bullied her friends at least as much as other people but evidently loved them enough to risk her life to show up for them if they were in danger and kill someone to protect them with no hesitation. I have a long history of being bullied, especially for my weight. Alison should do nothing but piss me off, but she's so fascinating she's actually my favorite.

I wonder how the fuck these cops think a bunch of teenage girls got a hold of evidence that should have been in police custody. Did they just not look into that? That should have been a precinct-wide search, starting with the last person to have checked it out.
