If we're talking about weird old fashioned names, I'm a big fan of Rowena, and I just got in a disagreement with a girl about whether it was pronounced like Morwena (More-wen-nah) (I thought it should be and it's how I pronounced in it when I named my fictional character that) or Roe-ween-nah (like Halloween).

Anyway, I love Rowan for a boy or Rowena for a girl.

I think I mentioned in the notes of another ask response, but I had a great-great-great-great grandmother named Roena! Same name, different spelling. I don't know how they pronounced it because she was born in 1798, but my guess is Ro-ee-nah. I'd expect Ro-eh-nah to be spelled "Ro(w)enna," personally.

(The weird part is, she was born before the publication of Ivanhoe, the novel that brought the name Rowena into the public consciousness. It's the name of a legendary medieval Saxon princess, so her parents could still have heard it- clearly -but it would have been a much more unlikely circumstance than a few decades later. Very interesting.)
