#and that compared to Kris' and Asriel's room in deltarune... the way everyone treats them...

Its become glaringly obvious too that Toriel nor Asgore only ever mention Chara once, and it fucking annoys me.
Asgore will mention "the day after my son died," "I just want to see my son again," but not one single mention of the human child that died under their care until you spare him, and then it's "The human child that fell here long ago." Which one, old man?
Maybe he's compartmentalizing to be able to kill other human children or he blames Chara on some level, but fuck. Asriel/Flowey is the only one who mentions Chara by name, and the monsters at the castle are the only other ones that mention them at all, even though Alphys clearly knows about them from the tapes...
Chara so obviously colors their life too. Toriel leaving and trying to save any children that fell in the ruins as an act of penance, taking Chara's body with her and burying them where we first fell, literally making Chara's death soften our fall. Asgore ruling from a throne room covered in Chara's golden flowers, keeping Chara's fucking casket in his basement with the other children- implying he wasn't gonna bury them? I'm just. I get that they couldnt say Chara's name or itd fuck up the plot twist of Frisk, but not even "my children-" or "the first human child- my human child" at the same time he talked about Asriel? Nothing?
No wonder Flowey kills Asgore when he offers to become your family with Toriel. The fucking hypocrisy.

against my better judgement i stayed up until 2 am playing deltarune chapter 2 last night bc i was determined to finish it in one sitting and had no idea it was so much longer than the first chapter
(spoilers)
anyway i’m not sure what i think of it? i don’t think it was bad but it felt a little all over the place compared to chapter 1 and even undertale. like in those the tone was so excellently, deliberately crafted and consistent all throughout, while this part felt like it was 75% humor bordering on “lol so random” style and then 15% seriousness that came up at odd times. who asked for berdley’s tragic backstory. who. and everything felt over the top wacky just for ridiculousness’s sake. ik this is a weird thing to nitpick but toby fox is fucking hilarious but the comedy wasn’t landing with me this time. i do like queen more than i thought i would tho LOL she’s great
i am really interested in kris being the knight who is opening the fountains. i have to wonder if they even want to seal them at all since that’s done under the player’s influence, while creating them is done while their “heart” is outside of their body and they have free will again. as to why they’re doing it, my first thought is that going on adventures in the dark world is their only way of coping with being separated from asriel and that they’re human and not a monster. it’s making sure their escapism continues, that they have a world where their brother is with them (ralsei) and they can be a revered hero instead of the town oddity. they don’t care what happens to reality (opening a fountain in their own living room right next to toriel) if they can keep adventuring in their ideal setting, and i can’t entirely blame them. ofc whether this holds any water again depends on if they even want to be in the dark world and aren’t just going there bc the player is making them.
i’m not inclined to believe kris is “evil” at all bc so much points to their behavior being a result of personal insecurity and how badly they’re treated by the people around them. they very very strongly read as neurodivergent to me and everyone acts like they’re a freak for being “weird”, then couple that with losing their strongest support when asriel went to college and it’s understandable they’d lash out and make drastic choices. even slashing toriel’s tires before opening the fountain at the end could be their way of ensuring they don’t lose their mother too, either by making sure she’s pulled into the newest dark world with them or simply keeping her from going to school and being in a different classroom
anyway tl;dr chapter 2 felt weaker to me but was fun, looking forward to the next one in three more years
