look i love the stormlight books but i just saw someone call them a marvel of worldbuilding and magical systems and i just. yes theyre FUN but both his worldbuilding and magical systems are extremely shallow - he writes a lot and adds a lot of detail, but most is not thought through very far and it shows. sanderson's strength is his character writing not his worldbuilding, please don't pitch this series to people as strong worldbuilding you will disappoint people and potentially turn them off to the series

#genuinely every time i pitch this series i have to warn people about the eye color caste system thats somehow lasted a millenia #and the fandom seems to regularly talk about how badly the alcohol is handled in it #this also isnt touching on the way theres lots of cultural differences between the regions but theyre all. kind of. very shallow #you go oh neat how does that affect things that these societies do these things differently? and its rarely relevant to anything else #ive learned to just forget the things i want to know as soon as the question forms bc 9/10 times you do not ever learn jack shit OR #you learn it doesnt matter #and its fine! the books are fun enough anyways #and the reason theyre good reads is the character writing #sanderson is extremely good at making characters interesting immediately after introducing them and giving them interesting motives/conflict #not tagging this because i. do not actually want to start discourse or something
