Thinking about authorial intent vs audience interpretation and thinking about how Never Gonna Give You Up is an excellent example to explain it
#i think abouf this All The Time#its just one of those things i think about from time to time#this also applies to that meme that was going around where turned out the person was trying to be a dick but everyone thought it was funny#i think the intent of the author and the audience interpretation are just as important as eachother when talking about art#and generally they mroe or less match. mayhe some specifics will get mixed up but itll more or less be roughly the same idea#like ofc by nature of audience interpretation there will be heaps of different versions of the same thing because eveyone is different and#and we all hage different experiences and shit so we see the world differently. but the clearer the author is with their point. you get it#but. its funny as all hell when thsoe two ideas Dont match brcause of some cultural thing#its like when a word has a double meaning and someone thinks you mean the other#if that song wasnt memed to fuck and back people would probably#1. it wouldnt be as popular or widely known but it probably would end up being used seriously#theres nothing Inherently memey about that somg its just the way its treated culturaly that makes it seem that way#if rickrolling wasnt a think it probably would be like. a relatively common amv song#its just funny to think about#Tree Man Posts#sentimentality
