Groupie/waitress Francine Brockey and singer-songwriter Gram Parsons, 1970. Photo by Andee Nathanson.
According to Francine’s close friend and fellow groupie, Nancy Deedrick, Francine was one of the reasons Gram and girlfriend Nancy Ross were frequently on-again/off-again throughout the late 1960s. Andee also claims the reason Gram’s appearance was so brief at the beginning of the 1970 Mad Dogs & Englishmen tour was because he was disappointed to discover Francine had moved on to Leon Russell’s drummer Chuck Blackwell.

"As I walked up the rickety stairs, I heard a great deal of fussing. Two rosy-cheeked young ladies were rushing about arms full of velvets, lace blouses, cloaks, and other marvelous things. Once at the top I saw Brian Jones.
He was studying himself in a huge gilded mirror. He whirled about and returned to his dressing room, which was a shoulder high screen. There were five others. The girls continued feeding him the goods. He seemed to know exactly what he wanted--and they were doing their best to find it. One of the girls put me behind a screen diagonal to his. At one point he looked up, connecting with me. I had no idea what to ask for or what I needed. He no doubt took pity on me and began tossing me his discards. Lace and velvet offerings came flying over the screens. I was doing my best to catch them. And when I went to the mirror myself to check it all out, I would get a raised eyebrow when it worked and a super scowl and shake of the head if it didn't. Later I realized he was getting his look together for Monterey Pop.
I looked like a completely different person when I walked out of there. Embroidered Moroccan vests, white Victorian blouses, filmy dresses with stars and moons, velvet cloaks and dozens of antique scarves, all thanks to the one and only Brian Jones."--Andee Nathanson, from Brian Jones: Butterfly in the Park https://geniusbookpublishing.com/products/brian-jones-butterfly-in-the-park

The phenomenal and oh so very young Pamela Des Barres and Randee St. Nicholas -- time out of mind in Holmby Hills. An abandoned Italian garden and villa where we would later create Hot Rats. It's amazing what two visionaries can do with little bits of chiffon! Look for this in the upcoming "Andee Eye" book along with a world of enchantment. website will be up next week for pre-orders. andee-eye.com -- from Andee Nathanson’s facebook page

The artist Peter Schlesinger had photographed me in Holmby Hills, at a run-down Mediterranean house. I later brought Pamela Des Barres and Randee St. Nicholas there to do some pictures in 1968. The location reminded me of ‘Hotel California.’ - Andee Nathanson
