The action in the Lincoln Challenger continued with qualifier Colton Smith, who is an upcoming senior in the next academic year (2024/25) currently studying in the University of Arizona, took on wild card Joshua Lapadat, who graduated from the Universiry of Kentucky and became the runner-up of the Granby Challenger's doubles sector with Justin Boulais a couple of weeks ago. Some argued that Colton deserved the main draw wild card, which was proven by his recent ITF forms as the runner-up of ITF M15 Los Angeles (Jun 24), ITF M25 Dallas (Jul 8), and won his first ITF title for the year in ITF M25 Champaign (Jul 22, d. Andre Ilagan), but this match also became explanatory in his case here as he defeated the likes of Quinn Vandecasteele and Shintaro Mochizuki in both qualifying rounds.
After Colton smoothly held his service game to 1-0, he became more aggressive to start the second game as his drive volley equalized the score 4 points into that game before J. Lapadat's forehand error secured the former's early break to 2-0. The qualifier smoothly consolidated his lead to 3-0, where Colton generated his game point through a stunning forehand lob.
Somehow, J. Lapadat found himself in trouble as Colton out-rallied him, which became more evident as the former's forehand error that preceded another different error resulted in the latter's break-back to 4-0. Colton then held his serves to 5-0, and proceeded to start the next game more dominantly as a working volley set himself 2 points ahead after another forehand winner. J. Lapadat found himself in the trenches as a double fault fumbled his earliest game point, and Colton took advantage of the Canadian's forehand error that created his set point before its immediate conversion thanks to his working forehand lob, serving the first-set bagel (6-0) to assert his dominance in this match.

The Saint: Judith (2.3, ITC, 1963)
"Monsieur Templar, I have for you a high regard."
"Thank you."
"But yesterday you sit behind Monsieur Northwade at a hockey game and today you have an accident right in front of his house; it is a coincidence, no?"
"It's a coincidence, yes - and that's all."
#the saint#judith#1963#itc#leslie charteris#Leonard Grahame#robert lynn#roger moore#julie christie#david bauer#margo johns#john mclaren#john serret#ross parker#warren stanhope#robert macleod#william greene#andre boulay#ronald wilson#georges robin#i had it in the back of my head from my last time watching the bw Saint episodes that the ones named after a woman (and there's quite a few#of these) are usually pretty bad episodes. I'm not sure why i remembered that way and if it's even true‚ but this is by no means a dud#episode; it's not a classic either‚ but a rather middling entry which concentrates more on familial melodrama than any real mystery plot#(save a last minute twist). a rare tv role for Julie Christie (she'd quit tv for the movies shortly after her starring role in 1961's A for#Andromeda‚ and when this aired she'd just made her first big splash in Billy Liar; hollywood's gain was the small screen's loss)#john serret's French Canadian policeman is (at least initially) much more Simon friendly than the usual cop; his subordinate Ross Parker#gets some nice moments as the hapless tail that Templar ends up treating to fancy dinners and cognac. the fight budget seems to have gone#up yet again‚ leading to a highly unlikely scene of Moore diving through a plate glass window and sprinting away without a scratch#oh‚ and whilst Simon has done a lot of smooching of his love interests of the week‚ this is the first episode to heavily imply that they#actually sleep together (must be the Canada air)

Former Quebec engineering executive receives 12-month sentence for bid-rigging
OTTAWA — The Competition Bureau says a former executive of Quebec engineering firm Dessau received a 12-month sentence after pleading guilty Thursday in the Court of Quebec to rigging bids for City of Gatineau infrastructure contracts.
Dave Boulay, formerly Dessau’s director and assistant vice-president, Outaouais, was sentenced to six months of house arrest and six months under curfew.
He admitted to participating in a bid-rigging scheme from 2006 to 2008 in which several engineering firms conspired to divide up city contracts among themselves without the municipality’s knowledge.
The regulator says Boulay received leniency in sentencing because of his co-operation with the investigation and the fact that he had no role in the instigation of the bid-rigging scheme.
Court proceedings are ongoing against three co-accused: Andre Mathieu, formerly vice-president and associate of Cima+; Claude Marquis, formerly regional director, Outaouais for Genivar (now WSP Global) and Michel Famery, formerly regional vice-president, Dessau.
Criminal charges were laid last June against the four men in connection with bid-rigging of 21 Gatineau infrastructure contracts awarded between 2004 and 2008.

Thursday was the last day to ship packages and expect them to arrive in time for the holidays without using express shipping.
22News spoke with people doing their last-minute shopping locally.
Shoppers may have missed their window to shop online and get and their items in time for Christmas but that can lead to more last-minute shoppers crowding local stores.
A2Z Science and Learning store in Northampton said the last few days before Christmas see a lot of customers coming in before that December 25 deadline.
“People really do appreciate that we've got the full store, the full selection,” said Andre Boulay, owner of A2Z Science and Learning. “I think getting your hands-on stuff in person is more fun anyways. Christmas Eve is still a really big day for us that Monday, so we'll be open at 9 a.m., and we'll be here until people are shopping.”
Local retailers like A2Z Science and Learning have extended their hours for the holidays, as have big box stores like Kohl's, which will be open 24 hours on Saturday and Sunday for those still in last-minute search for gifts.
With only a few days left until Christmas, some shoppers are getting their gifts wherever it's convenient.
“I had appointments in Northampton today and I finished early, and I had a little bit of time to do some last-minute shopping, get some stocking stuffers and gifts for my boyfriend,” said Kate Baisley of Lee. “Really great stuff around here.”
If you do opt for online shopping, you have until December 22 to use the postal service's Priority Mail Express and get your gift where it's going on time.

The Saint: The Covetous Headsman (1.4, ITC, 1962)
"Inspector Quercy, how nice to see you."
"Ah, Monsieur Templar, how very nice to see you - provided you have come to France only as a tourist."
"Now what does that mean?"
"That means that there are servants of the Republic, of whom I am one, whose job is to concern themselves with crime. We do not allow private individuals to take over the duties of the police."
#the saint#the covetous headsman#leslie charteris#itc#John Roddick#Michael Truman#roger moore#barbara shelley#eugene deckers#george pastell#esmond knight#carole gray#robert cawdron#josephine brown#michael spear#andre boulay#natalie benesh#barbara roscoe#peter brace#1962#ah what a cast! personal fave George Pastell (made up to be playing older than his actual age)‚ good old Esmond Knight and of course the#ever lovely Barbara Shelley; Simon meets Babs on the plane to Paris where she's meeting her long lost brother. she pulls out a picture to#show him and it's of stuntman and background player Peter Brace‚ so immediately this bodes not well. indeed Brace doesn't actually get any#real screen time that isn't below a sheet on a marble slab. to find the villain Simon must piece together a mystery dating back to ww2; in#the process we learn he fought with the resistance (making ST at the very least in his late 30s here‚ a little older than Moore himself).#the wartime hangover was a fairly common trope in early ITC stuff (see also eps of Interpol Calling and Ghost Squad) and tho it became less#used it still popped up in later shows like Strange Report and The Zoo Gang. Simon seems to be at peace with allowing the execution of a#wartime collaborator‚ fitting in with that darker energy i mentioned last time which is more in the spirit of the books (and which im#fairly certain gets watered down over time). Simon begins the ep being awful about a complaining lady on his plane but later he's much more#charming to an elderly landlady (deliberately shown to be at odds with the way the police talk to her). no location work in Gay Paris tho

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – An independently-owned Northampton toy store doesn’t expect much impact from the closure of hundreds of Toys ‘R’ Us stores.
Toys ‘R’ Us announced Wednesday they would be closing all of their U.S. stores.
The Babies ‘R’ Us at the Holyoke Mall and the Toys ‘R’ Us in Springfield are among the stores that will close.
Toys ‘R’ Us closings impacting western Massachusetts shoppers
A to Z Science and Learning store has been in Northampton for 30 years, first in Thornes Marketplace and now on King Street.
A to Z said their community focus sets them apart from the online retailers.
“One of the reasons we have been successful long term is because the community comes in and shops,” said Andre Boulay, owner of the store. “Toys ‘R’ Us is close and at the same time far enough away that I don’t know if it will change a whole lot for us.”
Boulay said the internet retailers can actually help brick-and-mortar stores by posting pictures of some of the newest products and toys, sometimes bringing customers in to see and touch them.

EASTHAMPTON — The first business to enroll in health insurance through the new Health Connector for Business online system is YoYoExpert, an Easthampton company that strives to teach people what the modern yo-yo is, and “make the simple amazing.”
The Massachusetts Health Connector launched the new small-group portal in August, and the full platform launched on Nov. 1. In the new system, businesses and brokers around Massachusetts will be able to sign up for coverage, offer employees the opportunity to pick their own plan, and contain the cost of coverage.
“The workflow, and actual design and layout, was nice,” said Andre Boulay, owner of YoYoExpert, who also owns A2Z Science and Learning Store in Northampton. “Through the Health Connector for Business, we are able to provide good health insurance for our employees while keeping the costs for our business in mind.”
The Health Connector for Business portal includes plans from seven carriers for 2018, and business owners and brokers will be able to choose a plan and set premium costs from the company, while allowing employees the flexibility to choose a plan that best meets their needs.
“I’m looking forward to the new flexibility and options available to current and future clients through the Health Connector for Business,” said Rich Cahillane, benefits consultant with the American Benefits Group in Northampton, who helped Boulay enroll through the Health Connector. “Making health insurance as simple and affordable as possible is the goal.”
