Currently bedeviled by the thought that Ángel was the first to ever gently touch and admire Krester’s scar.
Like clearly it is a deeply traumatic thing connected to a horrible event and incredibly disfiguring physically and emotionally and likely beyond medical care no one touched it since.
And then Ángel comes along and gleefully and carefully touches it in fascination and care and not repulsion and is into it Krester who already felt ugly and irredeemable and unlovable is faced with it, the force of this acceptance and desire. No wonder he went stupid over him.

Ok, so we all know that Ramiro has killed a man for the sake of Ángel. I don't like Ángel so much but Ramiro is my fucking CHILD. I am also completely agreed with the theory of that the priest caught Ramiro and Ángel, blah blah blah
BUT.
We do know that Ramiro gets jealous. We know that he doesn't like it when Ángel is with other men. So what if it was like a
"Do you love me?"
"Yes."
"Enough to kill for me?"
KIND OF SITUATION??? Now I know this is a bit far fetched BUT PLEASE

I can’t remember the last time a piece of media moved me in such a way as 1899 has. Rewatch after rewatch, I can’t get enough of how there is always some new detail for me to find. The complexity and detail from Bo and Jantje is nothing short of awe-inspiring, and it’s led me to writing fan fiction again for the first time in almost a decade.
1899 doesn’t just deserve another season—it demands one. I sincerely hope that we get to see what happens aboard the Prometheus one day.

Angel’s vibe: Is it me? Am I the drama? I don’t think I’m the drama

Sorry to be that person, but Angel and Ramiro aren't the real couple in 1899.
You can't draw a person's face after you saw them one time, for twenty seconds, from far away. That's... A huge thing. You realize that Angel remember Krester like he knew him his whole life very deeply and fell in love many times, don't you?

I wanna talk about "The Calling"
That episode is pretty much my favorite, but there is something that's been bugging me a lot. Something I haven't really thought about much earlier, and that is the reaction certain characters have to it that differs from everyone else. Those characters are Maura, Eyk, Angel, Krester, and, believe it or not, Wilhelm (mustached German Adam Driver). So, correct me if I'm wrong:
Yes, we have all the characters that survived the calling and seemed to be unaffected, but most of them knew what was going on, and as soon as everyone started jumping off the ship, they started locking themselves up or tying up their own hands in an attempt to control themselves from doing the same. Well, everyone except Iben, who was affected like everyone else, but stopped by Anker, Tove and Franz.
We don't count Daniel, Elliot and Sebastian cause they're insiders and wouldn't be affected in any case. But that very fact makes Maura and Eyk's reactions weirder. Also, Wilhelm's partially.
Maura and Eyk don't react to it at all. Yes, they are scared of what is happening and weirded out by people jumping overboard, but the calling has zero effect on them. They don't lock or tie themselves like the others. They look for each other while it's happening. They find each other and end up in Eyk's cabin. Maura is explaining everything she's been hiding from Eyk while they just casually watch through the portholes as the bodies fall into the water. So, why aren't they at least affected like everyone else who was immune to it, but still doubted their own actions?
Wilhelm seems unaffected, too. He looks scared shitless watching people just drop, but unlike the rest of the crew, he's not hearing the tik-tok, and he is aware of everything. Until Sebastian deactivates him. There was no reason for him to turn Wilhelm off at all unless he knew he would question things and realize something others couldn't. We knew Franz was a lot more than an unimportant crew member, but Wilhelm seems to be of more importance, too.
Then we have Krester. Yes, Krester jumped off, but I think a lot of people noticed that he actually did it on purpose and was aware of what he was doing, unlike everyone else. It was like he simply gave up and used the chance to die when no one questions it. Was it cause he couldn't face everything that was going on in his life anymore? Or was it something else?
And maybe the most interesting case, Angel. He looks affected by it, just like everyone else who jumped, but he seems to be the only one who actually fights it. He hears the calling and he knows what it is, so he goes to his room, sits on the floor, covers his ears, and starts singing a children's song in order to fight the noise away. Like a child afraid of the dark. This is completely opposite of Krester, who surrenders to his weakness in spite of being able to escape it.
I don't know what all this means, but it's very interesting to try and analyze it.

I need to rewatch the season to make sure I’m not talking out of my ass, but I’m pretty sure there’s a connection between Krester/Ángel’s scars and their personalities beyond the queer parallel that Ángel pointed out.
Spoilers ahead!
For most of the first half of the season, Ángel presents this boisterous personality with the illusion of strength through hyper masculinity and general nonchalance. He wears this personality as a mask, but it occasionally cracks. We see the cracks when the ship turns around and he says “I can’t.” We see the cracks when he nervously smokes on the deck right before meeting Krester for the first time. When he reaches out for Krester as he tries to leave his cabin during the mutiny. And most notably, when he breaks down during the Calling. Beneath the façade Ángel is wounded and scared. He wears his mask over it like he wears his expensive suit over the scars on his back.
In contrast, Krester does not contain his vulnerable side hardly at all. When he tries, he tends not to be very successful. He lashes out at Ada and Tove. When his family calls him stupid, his face shows hurt. He spends much of his time crying or on the verge of tears. Even with Ángel, who I would argue he is most restrained around, his emotions betray him repeatedly. During their first meeting, all of his inner chaos and confusion is out in the open as Ángel touches him. When Ángel finds him in the washroom, he brushes his hair over his scar like a self-conscious teenager and gazes at Ángel in curiosity when he presents the cigarette case. And during The Gate Scene, he leans into Ángel’s touch and gives in to his sexual desires. This scene is particularly interesting because he continues to express himself in all of his emotional complexity. When Ángel reaches out to touch his face during the interaction, he dodges the contact. During the mutiny, he continues to show himself in all his messiness, reacting to his mother's incredibly harsh words in front of Ángel. Like the scar on his face, his emotional state is visible at all times in spite of his attempts to hide it. He may brush his hair over the scar or wear a hat, but the shame and embarrassment that comes with it is inescapable. His open expression of his internal state works in a similar way.
I appreciate writing like this, where things like appearance fit with the character. I see it all the time in things like graphic novels and animated movies and shows, but it seems a bit more rare in live-action stuff. It's such a little thing, but knowing how the Bo and Jantje tend to work I doubt this was an accident. Love picking at little details like this!! It's too bad there may not ever be more to analyze... but we have plenty to chew on for now. :')
