Hunters and Hunted: Vampire Hunter AU Part 1 (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure)
So I have FINALLY started writing for my Part 5 Vampire Hunter AU and...I'm very excited to share this with all of you because I have had so much fun writing this XD Halloween's coming early so enjoy!
~~~~~~~
(Vampire Hunter AU) Giorno is a dhampir in a world where there are vampires and those that hunt them. When a ghoul takes things too far, Giorno is forced to take him out, but now he has an infamous hunter on his trail and his only options might be to join this man as an ally or be killed as an enemy.
It was not recommended to walk at night unless you were a hunter or one of the things that they hunted. Giorno Giovanna supposed he fell into the latter category, especially tonight as he had a particular reason to be out.
            The falling evening felt good on his face, close, comforting around him. It was easier to move through a crowd without notice, to slip his fingers into the occasional pocket of an unsuspecting gentleman hurrying home before the real monsters began to appear. Even those who pretended not to believe that vampires and other creatures of the sort didn’t exist made sure to make it behind closed doors by the time the sun fully left the horizon.
            “Did you hear?” said the hushed voices on the street. “Another girl was found dead—just a little thing. You think it was vam—”
            “Shh! It’s not our problem to speculate on. If it is, it will be dealt with…”
            Giorno paused briefly to riffle through the coin purses, filling his pockets with the money before tossing them aside, smiling with satisfaction. He’d had a good haul the last few days, enough to see him through the next month of expenses.
            Now for the other thing…
            He moved around the corner and collided with something that let out a small squeak. He instinctively reached out to steady the young woman, probably little older than he was .
            “Oh, I’m so sorry, signore,” she stuttered, blushing.
            “No harm done. I should have been looking where I was going. The fault is all mine, signorina,” Giorno replied apologetically. This close, he could see the flutter of a pulse in the girl’s pale throat, and he had to force himself to release his hold on her instead of pulling her closer and…
            Her companion took the girl’s hand and pulled her along. “Come on, Angelina, we need to get home.”
            “She’s right, it’s dangerous to be out after dark,” Giorno said with a gallant smile. “Do be careful on your way home.”
            The girls nodded and hurried off, hailing one of the many cabs on the street. Some nights Giorno also ran a cab—there was a man he borrowed one from to make a little extra money—but tonight he had other priorities that were making themselves more and more known the lower the sun dropped below the horizon line.
            The hunger gnawed at his stomach—a constant reminder and his hands were beginning to shake as well. He had to feed tonight. He’d tried to stave off the hunger but when he got this bad, regular food only made him ill. There was only one thing that could make him feel better now.
Propaganda for Prelim Poll 22
(Vote here)
Amber Brown (Amber Brown series) :
"Look, ok these were the first books I actually read, on my own, as something I wanted to do, for fun. I HATED reading, but the title Amber Brown is Not a Color made me laugh so hard I had to read it. They're good books from what I remember. With good lessons for kids, that are very good at reading the way most kids that age think!
I know she's not gonna get any other votes but I just had to enter her!!"
Oocoo (Legend of Zelda) :
"Named after the color code 00CC00, the color of Link's tunic in the first Zelda game. "
Violet "Vi" (Bug Fables) :
Gurin Midori (Yandere Simulator) :
"Her name literally translates to "Green green", so I think she's a pretty good fit for this tournament lol"
"Ok so technically he's named after the fruit orange in italian (arancia) but at the end of the day it's night. and the word for the color and fruit in italian is the same. Anyway he's really cool and his power is literally a toy aeroplane that shoots real bullets and it's called Aerosmith. like the band. and he's a funny little guy"
Mr. Gray (The Raven Cycle) :
"The character is an assassin that is only known to most of the characters by his code name. No one in the books refers to him by his real name"
Description
Sarah and Angelina Grimke?the Grimke sisters?are revered figures in American history, famous for rejecting their privileged lives on a plantation in South Carolina to become firebrand activists in the North. Their antislavery pamphlets, among the most influential of the antebellum era, are still read today. Yet retellings of their epic story have long obscured their Black relatives. In The Grimkes, award-winning historian Kerri Greenidge presents a parallel narrative, indeed a long-overdue corrective, shifting the focus from the white abolitionist sisters to the Black Grimkes and deepening our understanding of the long struggle for racial and gender equality.That the Grimke sisters had Black relatives in the first place was a consequence of slavery?s most horrific reality. Sarah and Angelina?s older brother, Henry, was notoriously violent and sadistic, and one of the women he owned, Nancy Weston, bore him three sons: Archibald, Francis, and John. While Greenidge follows the brothers?
Thoughts on the “Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure” English dub. “Stardust Crusaders” episode one.
so yeah I wanted to create a distinction here given that the anime did the same thing. and we only have three episodes of this thing released to us. I have read that this was a test dub, but I have also read that they dubbed all of it and we just have not had it released. I know as recently as last month episode 26 of BT was aired in America so generally speaking Viz has been weird with how they’re handling this series. I know they announced special 30th anniversary Blu-Ray sets in Japan and its possible US audiences will receive something similar and that will give us the rest of the SDC dub. I know most fans don’t care about the English dubs, but personally I would like to watch it all. I just wish Viz wasn’t being so weird because these episodes were done in 2014 and all we have is three.
anyway I’m gonna try and squeeze out as much as I can from these episodes
the first person who speaks is one of the fishermen
I always did like the art style shift for SDC, it feels like they took the manga style from this arc when it was at its best (because if you look back on the earlier chapters, especially with Jotaro’s look, its clear Araki was working things out) and just put it in anime form
“hold on, wait. this is bizarre” that should be the tagline
I would make a Holy Diver reference right now, but everyone already beat me to it
Joe-turro Kujo
okay so when I first read the manga I said his name as Joe-tah-ro which I realize now is incorrect, but there’s something about how these people say it that still feels off
“seventeen years old 195cm tall” he’s 6′3. mommy’s large prince.
yeah that throw away line about his dad being a jazz musician on tour is all we ever learn of Sadao, like damn we knew more about Jolyne’s mother and Araki never gave her a name
Holy is voiced by Julie Ann Taylor who is Miss Haruna in the new Sailor Moon dub
also yeah I have seen her name written as Holy and Holly, I kinda prefer Holly but I am aware it should be Holy
I like how they explained why he’s called Jojo even though the Japanese audience this was made for would understand its because he’s Kujo Jotaro (meanwhile Josuke is called Jojo due to how his name can be read in Japanese and its never explained so you need to check Jojo wiki for that info)
I like how Holy is assuming Jotaro killed people, like damn woman no one said that
“by the way ma’am, I have to tell you your Japanese is really quite good” I’m sure it is
yeah I knew that line was gonna feel weird, but its funny they kept it anyway
the way Holy says Jotaro’s name is basically how I say it now, I only point it out because the way the prison guards said it still feels weird
BABY JOTARO
because if they didn’t show me he was once a child I would have never believed them
“nothing’s as good as your cooking Mom” why is this line always funny to me?
also Jotaro’s played by Matthew Mercer who was Demande in Sailor Moon, Levi in AOT, Law in OP, McCree in Overwatch, and Leon in Resident Evil
“SHUT UP! GET OUT OF MY FACE YOU BITCH!” ladies and gentlemen, the most iconic character of the entire series
as if this post isn’t long enough, I may as well say my general thoughts on Jotaro. I like him, but not as much as everyone else. he falls pretty low on my list when I rate my favorite Jojos and by the time we got to VA I was pretty sick of him. I do like him though, I swear his fans are so protective of him in a way that doesn’t feel necessary. I spoke to another blogger about him years ago and gave a very mild critique (I think I basically said I think him showing up in VA was unnecessary and it annoyed me) and they replied by saying “please don’t hate Jotaro”. I don’t! I bought his Medicos figure for crying out loud.
Jotaro in several ways is the perfect cool strong silent protagonist in shonen. in the nice hardcover copies of SDC Araki says Jotaro is what he considers his ideal hero as he feels heroes should carry some kind of weight and be a loner that doesn’t ask for glory. however I do think he goes against that trope in ways that are subtle but noticeable. he enjoys the companionship of his friends, he has a sense of humor, I would describe him as comically serious. the reason I don’t love him like everyone else ultimately is because he just isn’t my type.
also this is random but he was inspired by Clint Eastwood, I just wanted to say that
“seems I’ve been possessed by an evil spirit” that’s just your Stand you ignorant child
wait...how was Star Platinum able to bring him that stuff? its not like his Stand can just go to the corner store for him
“what the hell!? he’s reading Shonen Jump while listening to a radio!” the fiend!
mmmm the music
uuuuuhhhh.....at the end of episode 26 old Joseph still seemed to have an English accent but now he’s American?
Avdol!
oh no! Jotaro has been playing with toy cars and reading books! books you guys!
Holy tells Jotaro that’s his grandpa like he’s never met him
can we just appreciate how Extra Jotaro actually is?
sigh...so Avdol is being voiced by an actor named Chris Tergliafera who is Silva Zoldyck in HXH and Tanktop Tiger in OPM and he is white
they gave you a black man named Muhammad and you cast a white guy
its not like black voice actors don’t exist or anything, you hired one to play Esidisi
BEHOLD! SPICY CHICKEN!
I love this music
Staaaaar Platinuuuuum
can I just say I love that fandom started calling it Star Plat? its fun to say
HHHHHMMMM Star Platinum sounds suspiciously not like Matthew Mercer! yeah I still think its beyond stupid that they hired Patrick Seitz to voice Star Plat. the Stand is an extension of its user, its part of them so yes it should be voiced by the person playing the user. Daisuke Ono did both no problem, if they felt Matthew couldn’t ora ora properly then maybe they should have cast someone else.
also this makes the “same type of Stand” thing weirder given Patrick is Dio
so at least I can say my worries over them giving Avdol a fake African sounding accent were for nothing, that would have been a horrible idea
“the power Avdol has is exactly the same as your’s” really? point me to the scene where Star Plat could create fire
Jotaro calls his mom a bitch, the mom he went on a suicide mission to fight a hyper sexual vampire in Egypt to save. what a moron.
Araki has said he originally intended for the series to be a trilogy and it does show in SDC, but I’m happy it continued on afterwards
my favorite character gets like the worst Stand in the series, go figure
“this is my Stand! it can reveal far away visions and place them on film! the only downside is I have to bust a 30,000 yen camera every time I use it!” wow that must be like ten dollars
“Jotaro, Holy, have either of you ever taken the time to look carefully at the back of your necks?”
ah! Lisa Lisa reference! Araki never confirmed her death, so I’d like to think she kept on living and never aging so Josuke got to meet his hot young grandma
so nice of Dio to pose for Joseph’s photography
and there he is, the Big D himself, laying around shirtless in the dark as he should be
tune in next time for cherry boy and hot mama
{Serious! And very important! But I will Warn, kinda long post}
talking about future
So, I know you all probably don't want to hear about anything other than JoJo, but I wanted to talk to you all personally about what I want to do in the future, both with this blog, and my life.
I'm a girl with big dreams, and a girl who talks too much
So first, probably what you wanted to hear about first, my plans for this blog, so, to start first:
by the end of next month {November},
I will have both misaki's, and April's bio & information will be finished. {Hopefully ;-; }
{December}
By mid December I want to have at least the first two chapters of Angelina's story finished, and be uploaded.
{January, 2022}
I don't have much planned for the month of January, I will be trying to write more, and hopefully Angelina's story will be close to the mid way point.
{February, 2022}
Now.... this is where the problems start... Me and my family will be packing up to move around mid February as so to be ready by around early to mid March, so I most likely won't be able to write much, if at all, but I will try to be as active as I can be, and will try to keep you all updated during this period.
{March, 2022}
Around this time we'll be either just moving in, or settling in, so activity will increase a bit more, but also around this time is the estimated date of my sister's birth, so activity will still be a bit slow, but I'll still always be here!! I just might take a bit to respond!!
{The is all estimations of what will happen, and + my hopes, life is almost completely unpredictable, and things can always change suddenly}
thank you for taking the time to read all this, I appreciate it so, so much, I know it sounds kinda stupid, and I'm probably being really over dramatic, and all soapy. but this blog means so much to me, as does all that follow it, this blog has given me a outlet to express my thoughts, and just generally get away from real life.
I love you all, and thank you for being here for me
- Jacinda
Haven’t done one of these in a long while...
Name: you can call me Snap
Star sign: tiamat
Height: 5'10, I think?
Middle name: This feels like some phishing scheme on the part of a tech-savvy fae so I will merely confirm that it starts with an F
Put your itunes whatever on shuffle. [Windows Media Player for me, tyvm] What are the first 6 songs that popped up?
‘File Select’ by Jake Kaufman, Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse OST
‘Schuyler Defeated’ by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Hamilton
‘Black Plastic’ by Savlonic, from the album of the same name
'April 2012’ by Toby Fox, DELTARUNE Chapter 1 OST
‘Pursuit - Corner the Culprit’ by, uh, Capcom Sound Team, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy - Turnabout Tunes
‘Snack Falcon’ by Alec Holowka, Night in the Woods Vol. 1: At The End Of Everything
...i like video game music, okay
Grab one book nearest to you and turn to page 23. what’s line 17?
“[...] the conduct which served us as a point of departure. We must return to the question.”
Ever had a poem or a song written about you? I really don’t think so? My memory’s pretty shoddy but I feel like I’d remember that
When was the last time you played air guitar? What a question. November? 2017, perhaps?
Who is your celebrity crush? does catwoman count (Angelina Jolie and Halle Berry. I once watched a terrible Bond movie purely because the latter was in it)
What’s a sound you hate; sound you love? I can’t stomach any loud screechy noises at all - sensory issues. I’m gonna be super, super cheesy for the good sound and say “my girlfriend’s laugh”. It’s adorable
Do you believe in ghosts? Nope
How about aliens? See, that’s a very different question, given the geographic size of the universe. I’m going with the increasingly common answer Yes they exist No we’re unlikely to meet them
Do you drive? ha ha barely.
If so, have you ever crashed? not yet (unless you count a litany of very minor errors when trying to park)
What was the last book you read? Oof. For a writer, I read very little. Mostly I flick through D&D books at night these days. I think the last full book I finished was the recollections of the British ambassador to Germany in the final years before WWII, which was... interesting
Do you like the smell of gasoline? Hell yeah, it rules
What was the last movie you saw? I mostly watch shows rather than movies, so I think this is the last movie I saw in theatres prior to The BackStreet Boys Reunion Tour, which would be JoJo Rabbit. Glad I caught it
What’s the worst injury you’ve ever had? Caught my ring finger in a pneumatic door on a Norwegian train. The fingernail grew strangely for quite some time afterward - much faster than its peers - and, months later, broke off weird and stabbed my finger as a final insult. I was eight.
Do you have any obsessions right now? Writing a novel-length crossover fanfiction probably qualifies in of itself. I also finished TAZ Balance recently and I’m still buzzing about it. I want to work on D&D campaigns of my own, but it’s slow going
Do you tend to hold grudges against people who have done you wrong? Oh, absolutely. That’s the only thing my memory is good at
In a relationship? Yes, a great one!
Tagged by: @sly-fcking-cooper - cheers!
Coming Attractions November 2021
Tumblr media
As usual, we present monthly previews of new movies being released. These are the movies that will be hitting your local cinemas (and streaming services) this month:
November 5th
The Harder They Fall (November 3rd) - Hitting Netflix this week is a new Western featuring the all-star cast of Jonathan Majors, Idris Elba, Zazie Beetz, Regina King, Delroy Lindo, and Lakeith Stanfield. Early reviews have been exceptional. This should be one on your list to check out this month.
Eternals - The newest film from Marvel Studios is probably their most ambitious since 2014′s The Guardians of the Galaxy. While the Eternals have existed on the pages of Marvel Comics since Jack Kirby created them in the mid-1970s, the group of immortal aliens is not well known even amongst more than tepid comic book fans. The film has some things working in its favor, it is directed by reigning Academy Award-winning for Best Director Chloe Zhao, and stars an impressive ensemble including Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Kumail Najiani, Brian Tyree Henry, Kit Harington, Salma Hayek, and Angelina Jolie.
Finch - Tom Hanks stars at the titular Finch in this post-apocalyptic drama coming to AppleTV+. In the film, Hanks is the last man on the earth who decides to build a robot to care for his dog after he dies. Heart-warming right? Game of Thrones vet (”Battle of the Bastards”) Miguel Sapochnick directs.
Spencer - Pablo Larraín (Jackie) directs Kirsten Stewart as Diana, Princess of Wales in this drama from the writer of 2019′s Serenity (yes, the batshit crazy Serenity). Early reviews are overwhelmingly positive and point out Stewart’s impressive performance and peg her a lock for her first Academy Award nomination.
November 12th
Clifford the Big Red Dog (November 10th) - Hitting theaters and Paramount+ this month is the adaptation of a beloved children’s book series of the same name. All I know about Clifford is that he is big and he is red and for some reason, my son is excited for this movie.
Red Notice - Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Gadot star in Netflix’s next big blockbuster, Red Notice. I remember reading back in 2018 about the bidding war for the action-comedy that included most of the major studios. Well, now Red Notice is here with three of Hollywood’s biggest stars with it.
Belfast - Kenneth Branagh does his best Roma with Belfast, a black-and-white coming-of-age comedy-drama about a young boy in 1960s Northern Ireland. Branagh wrote and directed the film, but he leaves the acting to  Caitríona Balfe, Jamie Dornan, Judi Dench, and  Ciarán Hinds.
Tick, Tick,... Boom! - Lin-Manuel Miranda makes his directorial debut in this musical drama based on a musical of the same name. The film, coming to Netflix this month, stars Andrew Garfield as composer and playwright (and writer of the musical the film is based on and Rent) Jonathan Larson.
Home Sweet Home Alone - Fresh from Jojo Rabbit, Archie Yates is left home alone in this reboot (set in the same universe of the original film) coming to Disney+ this month.
November 19th
Ghostbusters: Afterlife - If you want to make a legacy sequel to an iconic 1980s comedy franchise who are you going to call to do it? Well, the original director’s son of course. Jason Reitman picks up the baton from his father Ivan to usher in this new era of Ghostbusters lore. Early reviews have been generally positive and I am very excited to answer the call later this month.
King Richard - Will Smith stars as the titular Richard Williams, father of tennis greats Venus and Serena, in this biographical drama hitting theaters and HBO Max simultaneously this month. The film premiered at the Telluride Film Festival in September to positive reviews with an emphasis on Smith’s performance as the Williams patriarch garnering lots of awards attention.
November 24th
Encanto - The 60th film from Walt Disney Animation is here with Encanto, featuring the voices of Stephanie Beatriz and John Leguizamo. The film tells the story of the only member of a magical family in Colombia who is born without powers. The film’s time in theaters will be short-lived as it is already slated to premiere on Disney+ on December 24th.
House of Gucci - The second film of fall 2021 from director Ridley Scott is House of Gucci starring Lady Gaga, Adam Drive, Jared Leto, Jeremy Irons, Salma Hayek. and Al Pacino. Scott made the film at a breakneck pace having only begun filming it at the end of February 2021. The film is set to premiere at the new Academy Museum of Motion Pictures later this fall.
Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City - Kaya Scodelario and Robbie Amell star in this reboot of the Resident Evil franchise from 47 Meters Down director Johannes Roberts.
Licorice Pizza (November 26th) - Paul Thomas Anderson is back with his first feature film since 2017′s Phantom Thread, which earned him nominations for Best Picture and Best Director. All but one of his films since 1997 has garnered multiple Academy Award nominations, so we will have to see if Licorice Pizza films itself in that conversation early next year.
Now for a quick look ahead to December, my top picks for next month are Spider-Man: No Way Home, West Side Story, and The Matrix: Resurrections.
What are some TV shows you watched as a kid?
Are you ready for this? I made a list last year.
Jojo Siwa’s $10.5 Million Dollar Mansion Mirroring Me and Jordan E. Craig as Jojo
There was a news article 1/9 of 2020 about Jojo Siwa showing her $10.5 million dollar mansion.
Tumblr media
It was really nice for me because I can use that to show:
News mirrors me every 24 hours
Jordan E.Craig uses the name jojo
The 7 Eleven Room is for “Stranger Things”
When I tell people I work in the Entertainment Field as a Hollywood Psychic influencing TV Shows and Film, I’ll get people who say they’ve never heard of me.
I can point to other Celebrities like Jojo Siwa who’s name can unscramble as an Acronym to point to Jordan as Jojo and me from Washington State.
Also, you see how Jojo Siwa was given a very specific last name with WA embedded in it. It hints at how Jojo was destined to become a YouTube Celebrity.
Jojo Siwa was born 5/19.
Star Wars: Episode 1 was 5/19 of 1999
Star Wars: Episode 3 was 5/19 of 2005
Peter Mayhew as Chewbacca was born 5/19
Peter Mayhew passed away last year.
I can use my Family Tree to establish that I’m reading the information correctly regarding Jojo Siwa.
I’m born 5/29 like actor Sebastian Shaw as Darth Vader
My grandfather was born 10/21 like Carrie Fisher as Leia
My biological father was born 11/19 like Adam Driver as Kylo Ren
Darth Vader was the most powerful Jedi. I’m the most powerful Psychic
Darth Vader was of Virgin birth. I’m Virgin
Darth Vader didn’t know he had twin children. I didn’t know I had twin children till last year
Jojo Siwa links back to my previous post about Angelina Jordan performing “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen winning the Golden Buzzer from Heidi Klum.
YOU’RE WHO?
I always get people scratching their heads saying, “Who are you? I’ve never heard of you.”
Most people haven’t heard of me because I’m in the background managing and doing information trafficking.
You have to use Earth’s Math Language to unscramble the information. Subconscious Minds using this Math Language will talk amongst themselves. They piggyback messages on regular human communication.
So when you see Jojo Siwa talking about her $10 Million Dollar Mansion that has  7-Eleven Room and a Crane Game, those are encoded symbols.
If you see how I unscrambled that information, it shows how the Subconscious Mind of Jojo Siwa knows who I am and knew that when her news story rose to the surface, I’d spot it right away since Jordan’s nickname is Jojo.
GOOD TIMING
Jojo Siwa’s news story comes at a good time. I’ve been working on my page here and talking about how it’s hard to raise money for my research.
Since my work deals with Scientific Research, not everybody gets it. It’s not like Jojo Siwa’s profession as a YouTube Celebrity where she provides entertainment.
That’s something that is tangible.
When people look at my research, it’s not as easy to recognize it’s value or worth when you’re talking about numbers and symbols.
People don’t always pick up on why numbers and symbols would be important and how they can influence the Entertainment Industry.
So when it comes to being paid what you’re worth, people just stare at my content and don’t know what to think.
So it’s harder to obtain financial aid and support. You see how Jojo Siwa can just cruise on ahead while it’s hard for me to get anyone to donate or even contribute to my Patreon Page.
INSTAGRAM POST JOJO SIWA’S $10.5 MILLION MANSION
I can use the news about @itsjojosiwa to point to me and Jordan E. Craig as "Jojo." Subconscious Minds of people created their own Language like Facebook AI Chatbots and use Earth's Electromagnetic Field as Wi-Fi to communicate with one another.
Tumblr media
Jordan's nickname is JOJO and I'm from WA State. This is reflected in the "Twilight" film series set in WA. I'm ROD mirroring 1959 #TwilightZone host ROD Serling. JORDAN mirrors 2019 host JORDAN Peele.
The "7 ELEVEN" Room Jojo Siwa has is because 7 is L "'UPSIDE DOWN" for the #StrangerThings UPSIDE DOWN with Psychic named ELEVEN. 7 Eleven means Virgin Psychic. I'm Virgin Psychic.
Netflix #StrangerThings is about a Psychic from HAWKINS Government Laboratory set in the 1980s. I'm Generation X 1980s Psychic who lived by the MANCHESTER Government Laboratory.
Thoughts on the “Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure” English dub. Episode one.
hello again. this is going to be an interesting experience because while I have read all of Jojo I have not actually watched every episode. also when the dub was first dropped I remember just hating what little I heard of it apart from Patrick Seitz as Dio. I think now that the dust has settled and I’m over the fact that Jonathan and Joseph sport British accents its worth it to actually look at it and judge it appropriately. because let’s face it you can’t gauge how a dub is by watching three short clips from it
I also think its going to be good going back to Phantom Blood and Battle Tendency because honestly PB is very underrated within the fandom and while I still think BT is the weakest plot wise it still contains some of my favorite characters in the series as well as some very great moments. I am of the firm belief that you cannot skip Jojo parts. you cannot start with SDC, I don’t care if you think Hamon was stupid or find the idea of PB and BT boring. you have to at least watch this because otherwise you will not understand why Jonathan is so important, you will get none of Dio’s development as its all confined to PB, and you’re missing out on a large reason why Joseph is such a great character (he’s more than an old man shouting “OH MY GOD”).
I don’t think this is me being unfair. I’m not saying you have to go read all eight parts of Jojo within a span of a month or anything. I just think you should start from the beginning and progress forward. if you’re most excited for SDC or DIU that’s okay, but you can’t use them as a starting point because contrary to what some have claimed all Jojo parts are interconnected
anyhow let’s go
so its interesting that Dario of all characters is the first one to talk
he’s voiced by Steve Kramer, you know Wiseman from Sailor Moon and the Third Hokage from Naruto
his accent is kinda inconsistent, but to be honest I’m going to do my best to not nitpick everyone’s accent too much
holy shit is that Dio’s mom?
why isn’t she blond? I kinda always headcanonned her as blond. then again I should be happy she’s here at all
also I am trying to comb Jojo wiki, but I can’t find who voices her
and there’s the Stone Mask, it sure is....stoney
hello Jorge, I don’t like you to be honest because you were a dick to your son
he is played by Marc Diraison who was Guts in the Berserk dub and voices Ging Freecss in the HXH dub
okay so Jonathan and Dio sounding so old at the age of twelve, the Japanese version did the same thing and its weird things like this that kinda give the series its charm
same goes with them not looking twelve at all, Araki has never been good at drawing children so just roll with it
Dio who holds a book like that?
I like how fandom likes to claim Dio has no reason for being the way he is when that’s actually wrong. he hated his father for what he did to his mother and for keeping him in destitution because his drinking was more important to him, ironically some of his father’s hedonism still rubbed off on him
guess you shoulda read the Phantom Blood!
who gives a twelve year old wine!?
ERINA
she is voiced by Michelle Ruff and WOW people love having her play romantic interest to Johnny Yong Bosch’s characters don’t they? too bad Rukia and Ichigo weren’t a thing in the end
“I’ve never met her, but I’ll fight for her all the same!” I love Jonathan
so....did the anime just skip over the fact that Dario abused and worked Dio’s mother to death and sold all her belongings despite his son’s protests stating “what use to I have for some dead bitch’s things” which instigated Dio murdering him?
JONATHAN JUST WANTED TO BE A GENTLEMAN FUCK YOU DIO
okay the anime should have kept the stuff about Dio’s mom and the fact that he murdered Dario because if I didn’t read the manga I just would have assumed Dario died of illness
aaaaaand pose
“you must be Dio Brando, right?” Jonathan if I were you I’d take Danny and run
said it before, say it again, if you are sensitive to dogs being hurt don’t watch Jojo
“you will treat him as you would my own son” but you sure won’t you piece of shit
one of my favorite things the fandom convinced non fans was that Dio killed a dog in self defense, like guys....
I never understood why Dio tugged on his earlobe like that
literally the worst thing about Jonathan was that he was a sloppy eater, he didn’t deserve any of this
“tch what an oaf” well at least he didn’t die from a deus ex machina
Johnny’s doing a better job than I remember
“damn that Dio, its terrible. he’s ruining everything he touches” you have no idea
I.....hate that the anime make Danny anatomically correct
people make a big deal about Jonathan feeding Danny a grape, but I genuinely don’t think Araki knows this is a bad thing to do to a dog
this is one of my favorite Dio outfits
KISS
okay....he’s gonna say it in three...two...one...
“you thought your first kiss would be Jojo, but it was I Dio!”
I think my favorite thing about Patrick Seitz is when he was announced as Dio he memed us, he took that picture and wrote “you were expecting Dio, but it was me Patrick!” like sir
and Erina washes her mouth out with mud because she’s a BAMF like that (also because Dio’s breath probably smells like death)
did Jonathan jump over a fountain?
KER SMASH
“Dio’s crying” I love this song
goodbye Danny, you’ll be referenced in SBR as a rat which is kinda a downgrade but still
who is this narrator anyway?
he’s David Vincent who voices Robin in Fire Emblem and Smash Bros
Dio you never learn to master your temper, I think it actually gets worse
I’ll be the rooooooooundabout
tune in next time where Speedwagon enters coolly and Jorge bites the dust
Golden Globes 2020: Priyanka Chopra to Walk Red Carpet, Nominations Lists, Host, Date-Time And Interesting Facts
Tumblr media
Golden Globes 2020: Priyanka Chopra to Walk Red Carpet, Nominations Lists, Host, Date-Time And Interesting Facts - Nominations of Golden Globes 2020 The official award season this year has begun with the arrival of Golden Globes 2020 on Monday, January 5. The stunning award ceremony, hosted by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, will see who’s who of both the international film and TV industries in attendance. The 77th Golden Globes, like the ceremony every year, is going to set the stage for the upcoming big awards – SAG Awards, BAFTAs and the Oscars. Interestingly, for Indians, the Golden Globes 2020 can end up being more exciting as there’s a strong possibility of actor Priyanka Chopra accompanying her husband, Nick Jonas, at the ceremony and walking the red carpet as Nick has been announced as one of the presenters for the evening.
Golden Globe Awards 2020: Date and Time in India
The 77th Golden Globes will be held on January 5, 2020, at The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles. As per the time difference, the awards can be watched live from around 7 am on January 6, Monday.
Where to watch the Golden Globe Awards 2020 in India?
The prestigious awards ceremony will be telecast live on Comedy Central India, Vh1 India and Colors Infinity at around 7: 30 am IST on Monday, January 6. The ceremony will be aired again at around 9 pm on Monday on the same channels.
Golden Globes 2020 live streaming in India
India will not see live streaming of the Golden Globe Awards 2020. The ceremony will be aired on three channels in India and you have an option of tuning into these channels through Airtel Xstream, JioTV and the Vodafone Play app apart from watching it directly on your TV screens by buying the respective subscriptions.
The host of Golden Globes 2020
Comedian Ricky Gervais, who is infamous for making controversial statements on Angelina Jolie, Mel Gibson, Madonna and Jodie Foster among others, has returned to host the ceremony for the fifth time. Gervais recently revealed in an official statement that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association offered him a sum that he couldn’t refuse even though he had decided to not host the show this year.
Interesting facts about Golden Globes 2020
The HFPA has decided to go vegan this year. An official announcement was made about the food being absolutely plant-based this time. HFPA President, Lorenzo Soria, revealed that they want the ceremony to be ‘more sustainable’ and it’s their first step in the direction. The plastic usage has been kept to minimal with the organisers deciding upon serving water in glass bottles instead of the plastic ones that used to be served earlier. The organisers have decided to continue with their no-fuss-everything-is-cool kind of approach to the ceremony and that’s the reason they haven’t kept any traditionally formal setting for food, bar and seating. The ceremony will see an open bar, table seating that lets the guests move about freely and a totally relaxed attitude towards viral selfies and moments from inside the hall. Also, for the Game of Thrones lovers across the world, this would be the last time the team might get reunited at an official award ceremony to cheer for Kit Harington who has been nominated in the Best Actor Drama Series category at the event.
Nominations of Golden Globes 2020
The jury once again faced the ire on social media for neglecting the contribution of female directors in producing good content for films and TV shows, much like the last year. Netflix’s The Crown and Apple TV’s The Morning Show seem strong contenders to win the Best Television Drama Series trophy while Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and The Irishman seem appealing as winners in Best Motion Picture Musical or Comedy, Best Motion Picture Drama categories, respectively. WHAT TO WATCH THIS WEEKEND October 18, 2019  - MALEFICENT, MISTRESS OF EVIL, ZOMBIELAND: DOUBLE TAP, THE LIGHTHOUSE, JOJO RABBIT
We’ll see how far I get on this week’s column because I haven’t seen nearly as much as I want to, I don’t have nearly as much time as I’d like to, and I have a lot of stuff to write for my other gig at The Beat. I know… excuses, excuses.
Well, you can probably already guess that I haven’t seen Disney’s MALEFICENT, MISTRESS OF EVIL, starring Angelina Jolie, because I never saw the original movie, and I have only been invited to one Disney movie in three years. (I got into a few thanks to being in the Critics Choice Association and there being awards screenings, but I have zero interest in this, even less in Frozen 2, and I’ll probably just use my AMC A-List to see Star Wars.)
I did see Sony’s ZOMBIELAND DOUBLE TAP, and that I really liked a lot. You can read my full review of this over at The Beat.  I also interviewed director Ruben Fleischer and have an interview with writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick waiting in the wings. I’m pretty amazed that the three of them were able to get the whole gang back together, including Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, Jesse Eisenberg and Abigail Breslin
Let’s just get to what I hope you’re reading this column for...
LIMITED RELEASES
I’ll admit freely that I just didn’t have as much time to watch stuff the past week as I’d like to, so some of the movies below I just haven’t gotten around to watching but hopefully they’re as good as others have said.
Tumblr media
There are a few “special event” screenings this week, including Kevin Smith’s JAY AND SILENT BOB REBOOT (Saban Films), which screened nationwide via Fathom Events last night and will get another screening on Thursday night. It’s actually not bad, at least compared to his last movie Yoga Hosers. This one is a direct sequel to Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, which I wasn’t a very big fan of despite liking a few of Smith’s other films like Chasing Amy and Dogma. Reboot harks back to some of Smith’s earlier work with nods to many of his previous films and cameos from almost every actor who has ever worked with him? I also interviewed Jason Mewes for The Beat, and I’ll have an interview with Harley Quinn Smith soon, too.
Also, on Saturday, Bruce Springsteen’s doc WESTERN STARS will get a nationwide screening via Fathom Events. I haven’t seen this one, and I’m not really that big a fan of the Boss, but hey, it’s happening if you’re interested.
The on Tuesday, October 22, you can see Neil Young’s latest movie Mountaintop in a one-night only event via Abramorama, the movie showing Young and his band Crazy Horse getting ready to record their first album in seven years. I haven’t watched it yet, but it’s interesting that Young is letting fans into the process, and I only recently saw Jim Jarmusch’s doc Year of the Dog, so I’m kind of in a Neil Young headspace. This one is directed by Young under his film direction pseudonym “Bernard Sharkey.”
Tumblr media
Another movie worth seeking out this weekend is THE LIGHTHOUSE (A24), Robert Eggers’ follow-up to The Witch, this one starring Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe as two men who are sent to care for a lighthouse during a particularly turbulent storm season. Dafoe is a crusty and cranky seadog who really puts Pattinson through his paces, but as the two men are holed up together (and eventually trapped on the location), they each begin their own slow descent into madness. I’ll have an interview with Eggers up at The Beat later today where we talk about the intriguing way he made this film, and it rose out of his frustration with trying to get The Witch financed.
My Interview with Robert Eggers
The movie I was most excited to see this weekend was Taika Waititi’s JOJO RABBIT (Fox Searchlight), since I’ve been a fan of his work going all the way back to when Eagle vs. Shark debuted the Sundance Film Festival. I was really hoping I’d like this enough to feature it at the top of this column, but since it’s not there, you can read my review at the link below to find out why not. Based on Christine Leunens’s novel, it stars newcomer Roman Griffin Davis as Jojo, a 10-year-old German boy in the Hitler Youth who just can’t get his shit together, although he does have an imaginary friend in Adolf Hitler (played by Waititi) who urges the boy on. Injured in an accident, Jojo is homebound when he learns that his mother (Scarlet Johansson) has been hiding a young Jewish girl named Elsa (Thomas McKenzie from Leave No Trace) in the house attic, so he has to figure out whether to report them, or use her to learn more about Jews. You can read my review below to see that I can’t really recommend the movie wholeheartedly, but it will open in New York and L.A. this weekend and you can decide for yourself.
MY REVIEW OF JOJO RABBIT
French auteur Francois Ozon returns with BY THE GRACE OF GOD (Music Box Films), a very serious drama about three grown men (Melvil Poupaud, Denis Ménochet, Swann Arlaud) who team together to expose a priest who molested them as boys but is being protected by the Catholic Church. The story is based on the real French scandal surrounding Cardinal Philippe Barbarin who was convicted earlier this year for concealing the conduct of a preacher, Father Preynat. Ozon is coming off his excellent film Franz and the equally intriguing Double Lover, so he’s definitely upped his game from the sometimes-frivolous earlier fare for which he became known. This is a really tough movie to get through and maybe that made it harder for me to enjoy, but it’s another fine piece of filmmaking by Ozon. It opens at New York’s Film Forum and  the Landmark on 57 and probably in a theater in L.A. as well.
Opening at New York’s Angelika Film Center and the Landmark on 57 is Alexis Michalik’s Cyrano My Love (Roadside Attractions) set in Paris 1897 and dealing with the relationship between playwright Edmond Rostand and actor Constant Coquelin, for what becomes the play Cyrano de Bergerac. And I have absolutely zero interest in seeing this.
Another movie that I saw and absolutely loathed was Jocelyn DeBoer and Dawn Luebbe’s GREENER GRASS (IFC Midnight), a movie that I couldn’t begin to describe except that it takes place in a suburban neighborhood where a yoga teacher has been murdered by a seria killer and all sorts of other strange things are going on. The filmmakers play best friends and soccer moms Jill and Lisa, the latter who borrows the former’s baby, but honestly, the tone of this movie reminded me about the stuff on Adult Swim that I hate such as the Tim and Eric shows and such, where it just seems to be weird for weirdness-sake, and there’s absolutely nothing that kept me even remotely interested. It opens at the IFC Center this weekend.
I still haven’t found the time to watch all of THE CAVE (National Geographic Documentary Films), Feras Fayyad’s follow-up to his Oscar-nominated film Last Man in Aleppo, but I hope to get to it fairly soon, since I was such a fan of that movie. I just need to be right in the headspace to watch this one, if it’s anything like that one.
Apple TV+’s first movie on the streaming channel will be Mark Deeble and Victoria Stone’s THE ELEPHANT QUEEN (A24), a documentary that follows the elephant matriarch Athena, who is forced to protect her family after they leave their watering hole. Although I understand the purpose of this movie to show how climate change is affecting these majestic animals, this one feels very much like something I’ve seen before from DisneyNature and others, so it didn’t really shed any new light on elephants, and it felt very much dummed down for kids. Voiced by Chiwetel Ejiofor, it will get a limited theatrical release this weekend before debuting on the channel November 1.
There are a couple other docs out this weekend, including Barbara Miller’s #FEMALEPLEASURE (Abramorama), which follows five women fighting against their patriarchal societies; Serendipity: The Story of French Artist Prune Nourry (Cohen Media Group) directed by French artist Prune Nourry; opening at New York’s Film Forum on Wednesday is Erin Derham’s doc Stuffed (Music Box Films) about taxidermists, and then there’s Julie Simone and Vicki Vlasic’s doc Fiddlin’ (playing at the Cinema Village) covers the Fiddler’s Convention.
If you’re not quite ready for Halloween, there’s the horror filmTrick (RLJEFilms) from Patrick Lussier (My Bloody Valentine, Drive Angry) about a Halloween party in 2015 where Patrick “Trick” Wever killed a bunch of his classmate and then escaped after being shot five times by a detective (Omar Epps) so everyone thinks he’s dead. But guess what? He’s not!!  It also stars Jamie Kennedy and Tom Atkins.
There are a couple other movies, but the main ones you should know about are above.
LOCAL FESTIVALS
The big one this week, at least in New York, is the Brooklyn Horror Film Festival, which starts Thursday night with Jeffrey Brown’s The Beach House and continues through the weekend with Daniel Isn’t Real, Swallow, and the World Premiere Fessenden’s Depraved: Making Frankenstein a Brooklyn Loft, a making-of doc about Larry Fessenden’s latest.
Starting Friday at New York’s Cinema Village is the Wildlife Conservation Film Festival, which I really don’t know very much about, although they seem to have an interesting selection of nature docs, both features and shorts, none of which I’ve seen.
In L.A., you can catch the Animation is Film Festival starting Friday with animated movies from across the group including I’m anticipating like Makoto Shinkai’s Weathering with You, and White Snake from China, which will be in competition with films like France’s I Lost My Body. There are special events for Disney’s Frozen 2, Netflix’s Klaus, a special screening of the Chinese hit Ne Zhan and Steven Universe the Movie before it hits Apple TV+ on November 1.
Also happenin’ in New York is the Nordic International Film Festival, which is taking place at the Roxy Hotel, in case you wonder why it’s missing from the repertory section below. That’s why.
STREAMING AND CABLE
Steven Soderbergh’s THE LAUNDROMAT will arrive on Netflix this weekend, and you can read what I thought of that in my previous column here.
Streaming on Netflix Friday is Ed Perkins’ documentary TELL ME WHO I AM about the relationship between two twin brothers, Marcus and Alex Lewis. When Alex wakes up after a motorcycle accident, he relies on Marcus to fill him on who everyone else is over the next 35 years, but Marcus may be keeping a dark family secret from his brother to protect him. (It also will open theatrically at the Quad Cinema on Friday.)
Sinister 2 director Ciaran Foy’s new film Eli will start streaming on Friday, about a boy who receiving treatment for an auto-immune disorder who finds out that his house isn’t as safe as thought. It stars Kelly Reilly, Lili Taylor, Max Martini and Charlie Shotwell in the title role.
There’s also the Spanish film Diecisiete (Seventeen) from Daniel Sánchez Arévalo about a 17-year-old named Héctor who forms a bond with a dog as part of a reintegration program at his juvenile detention center. When the dog is adopted, Héctor goes on a journey to rescue him.
One of the exciting debuts on cable this weekend is HBO’s WATCHMEN series, created by Damon Lindelof, and what I’ve heard about the show is that it’s pretty good, taking place in the modern day of the world created by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons in the comics (which took place in the ‘80s.).
Also, while I haven’t seen it yet, Iranian filmmaker Babak (Under the Shadow) Anvari’s horror thriller WOUNDS will debut on Hulu this weekend, and since I have Hulu, I’ll be able to watch it! It stars Zazie Beetz, Dakota Johnson and Armie Hammer, the latter playing a bartender who has all sorts of weird things happen to him when he picks up a phone at a bar.
REPERTORY
There are a few really awesome repertory series starting this weekend as well as the return of one of New York’s primary midtown rep houses, which has been closed for renovations for most of the summer.
METROGRAPH (NYC):
Tumblr media
Before I get to the Metrograph’s great new series starting this weekend, I want to draw special attention to Metrograph Pictures’ new 35mm print rerelease of Edo Bertoglio’s 1981 film Downtown ’81. This is a really amazing movie that stars late NYC artist Jean Michel Basquiat, and while it does show him doing his graffiti art, the movie isn’t so much worth seeing for its amazing writing or acting but for it being an amazing time capsule of New York in 1981 with performances by Kid Creole and the Coconuts, DNA, The Plastics and other No Wave bands in the year when punk was transforming into New Wave but New York bands were still experimental and arty, doing whatever it took to avoid getting into the mainstream. Metrograph releasing this reissued restored film makes sense as they were one of the first to herald Glenn O’Brien’s cable show TV Party, so if you get a chance, get down to the Metrograph where the movie will be shown exclusively probably for a week or two.
Another exciting series at my local theater as Julie Andrews will be there in person for “Blake Edwards: A Film Selection by Julie Andrews,” celebrating the life and career of her late husband. The series will include That’s Life (1986), Wild Rovers (1971), 10 (1979), the Inspector Clouseau film A Shot in the Dark (1964), 1981’s S.O.B., 1961’s Breakfast at Tiffany’s and a Members Only screening of Victor/Victoria (1982) with a QnA with the actress.  Also, the Academy returns to the Metrograph for its monthly series, this one very Halloween-appropriate, as they’ll be showing Fulci’s Zombi 2 (aka Zombie) from 1979.
This week’s Late Nites at Metrograph is still David Lynch’s Mulholland Dr. (2001) and also, because the Metrograph will make any excuse to show Brian De Palma’s 2002 dog Femme Fatale… they’re showing Femme Fatale again. what gives Metrograph? You now taking cues from the IFC Center by showing the same movies over and over? Tsk, tsk… This weekend’s Playtime: Family Matinees is Brad Bird’s animated classic The Iron Giant from 1999.  Welcome To Metrograph: Redux seems to be taking the weekend off, probably to make room for some of the above.
FILM FORUM (NYC):
The other series I’m really excited about is the three-week “Shitamachi: Tales of Downtown Tokyo” but I get to that, I want to mention that I had a chance to see Yoji Yamada’s Tora-San, Our Lovable Tramp (1969), which plays for two more days, and it’s quite wonderful so definitely try to get to it as this became a very popular series in Japan. Okay, back to the other Japanese series, this one runs for three weeks and it’s co-presented with the Japan Foundation. This weekend, you can see Akira Kurosawa’s Drunken Angel  (1948) and Stray Dog (1949) on Friday and Saturday as well as Ozu’s Record of a Tenement Gentleman from 1947. Sunday and Monday is Kurusawa’s Ikiru (1952) and a couple others. There’s just an abundance of riches including a couple rare prints that were imported from Japan for the series. Apparently, the Film Forum thinks Milos Forman’s Hair(1979) which I just saw at the Metrograph is okay for kids, which is why it’s programmed as this week’s “Film Forum Jr.”
THE NEW BEVERLY (L.A.):
The Wednesday matinee is the classic What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? (1962), while Weds. and Thurs. see double features of P.T. Anderson’s Inherent Vice (2014) with Jacques Demy’s Model Shop (1969). Friday’s matinee is Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth (1992), while the weekend “Kiddee Matinee” is the Disney movie Blackbeard’s Ghostfrom 1968. (I wonder if that will be on the Disney+ service.) Friday night’s midnight movie is Robert Rodriguez’s From Dusk Til Dawnand then Saturday night is an “All Night Horror Show” which is sold out, sadly. Monday’s matinee is The People Under the Stairs (1991), and Monday and Tuesday nights are double features of Tom Laughlin’s The Born Losers (1967) and Billy Jack (1971).
MOMA  (NYC):
It’s exciting news that MOMA reopens NEXT MONDAY, and their first two series are Modern Matinees: Iris Barry’s History of Filmand Vision Statement: Early Directorial Works. The first of these is an attempt to recreate some of the early film programs from the early days of the MOMA Film Library, including a screening of the 1914 film A Fool There Was on Monday, and I’ll write more about this next week. “Vision Statement” begins  with Andrzej Żuławski’s The Third Part of the Night (1971) and Satyajit Ray’s 1955 film Pather Panchali, and Andrey Zvyagintsev’s 2003 film The Return and Jane Campion’s The Piano (1993) both screen on Tuesday.
ALAMO DRAFTHOUSE BROOKLYN (NYC)
I’ll be at tonight’s “Weird Wednesday” Born of Fire (1987), which is almost sold out but has a few seats left. Monday night’s “Fist City” selection is David Fincher’s 2002 movie Panic Room, starring Jodie Foster and a VERY young Kristen Stewart, while “Video Vortex” presents the horror classic A Night to Dismember: The Original Cut. Next week’s “Terror Tuesday” is 1983’s Devil Fetus, and what do you know? Julie Andrews will be there doing a QnA right after showing Blake Edwards’ 1982 movie Victor/Victoria – I wonder where they got that idea (or maybe Ms. Andrews is just doing a tour right now). Next week’s “Weird Wednesday” is the 1993 film Fire in the Sky and RottenTomatoes is hosting a party centered around The Craft (1996), which is already sold out.
EGYPTIAN THEATRE (LA):
Recent Spanish Cinema 2019 continues this weekend so no rep stuff but a couple movies worth checking out are the doc The Silence of Others and the animated film Buñuel in the Labyrinth of the Turtles.
AERO  (LA):
A couple “Facing Off with John Woo” double features with The Killer  (1989) and Hard Boiled (1992) on Friday, and then Face/Off (1997) and Hard Target (1993) on Saturday afternoon. Saturday night is a screening of Woo’s 1990 film Bullet in the Head. Sunday is a Lina Wertmüller double feature called “Swept Away Again by Lina Wertmüller” which isThe Seduction of Mimi (1972) with Love & Anarchy (1973). Tuesday’s “Tuesdays with Lorre” will a 35mm screening of Frank Capra’s Arsenic and Old Lace  (1944).
IFC CENTER (NYC)
Wednesday night’s “Movies with MZS” (aka Matt Zoller Seitz) is John Carpenter’s Prince of Darkness (1987). It doesn’t look like the IFC Center has set its Fall repertory series yet but Friday and Saturday night at midnight you can see the very first official James Bond movieDr. No(1962) and a 4k restoration of Sam Raimi’s The Evil Dead (1981).That said, “Weekend Classics: May All Your Christmases Be Noir” does begin this weekend with Nicolas Ray’s They Live by Night (1948).
MUSEUM OF THE MOVING IMAGE (NYC):
“See It Big! Ghost Stories” continues this weekend with screenings of one of my all-time faves, Tobe Hooper’s Poltergeist, on Friday, and the Japanese horror classic House (Hausu) on Saturday, as well as the 1965 Japanese horror film Kwaidan, plus James Wan’s Insidiouscloses the series on Sunday evening. The “No Joke: Absurd Comedy as Political Reality” continues with 1985’s The Coca-Cola Kid on Sunday afternoon as well as William Klein’s 1969 movie Mr. Freedom, neither of which I’m familiar with. Saturday afternoon is a special screening of Marlon Brando’s 1961 film One-Eyed Jacks with an introduction by William Mann, who wrote “The Contender: The Story of Marlon Brando.”
FILM AT LINCOLN CENTER (NYC):
Freshly recovered from the New York Film Festival, FilmLinc is screening a 25th Anniversary restoration of Béla Tarr’s 1994 film Sátántangó, which also played at the film festival.
LANDMARK THEATRES NUART  (LA):
Oh, it looks like the Landmark has been showing Francis Ford Coppola’s The Cotton Club Encore all week so you can see it through Thursday. This Friday night’s midnight movie is A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors from 1987.
QUAD CINEMA (NYC):
Still showing Serge Gainsbourg’s Je T’aime Moi Non Plus (1976) through the weekend.
Next week, it’s an odds and ends weekend including Deon Taylor’s new police drama Black and Blue, the high-tech horror/thriller Countdownand the historical drama The Current War, starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Holland and Michael Shannon.
People making fun of Jotaro saying Josuke was blessed with the kindest ability because he used Crazy Diamond to fuse Anjuro to a rock confuse me because Anjuro was a murderer and a pedophile who killed Josuke’s grandfather and showed interest in raping his mother. Like yeah ha ha its ironic until you remember Anjuro actually deserved this.
