im so mad that I can't find my post about how none of the wheely time protagonists (OR antagonists) seem to have genuine relationships with each other or truly care about each other or are even friends because apparently that dissonance translated into the show as well. see this excerpt from the vulture's episode three review

No sooner are our heroes split up in that shadow city in the last episode than they wind up in three completely different landscapes, facing completely different threats and encountering completely different allies. What it lacks in recognizable human emotions and drives, it makes up for — or tries to, anyway — in sheer storytelling scope. Will this ploy be successful? Only (the Wheel of) time will tell.

this is so funny. even the vastly modified adaptation couldn't save this story from it's atrocious character relationship writing. and this isn't even the only review to say 'the dynamics between these characters make no sense and this isn't how people act" it's just the only one I could remember

#I tried watching one episode and decided it sucks #they changed up a lot of things but not in a fun fresh way they just #pulled out some overused cliches #and this isn't a series that adapts well anyway. I don't think it should have been attempted #and I don't see it making much of a cultural impact #I find it very suspicious that they casted a black woman as a famously angry female character #ans they cast a black man as the werewolf who has to battle his more destructive impulses #but I haven't seen more than the one episode so I don't know how they may have changed those characters #I do really love who they cast for egwene though I think she's perfect #I don't like how they changed mat's story it really alters his character #actually everyone was different #but I don't know how successful the show will be in altering the book's bioessentialism or unabashed support of empires or orientalism o #or slavery apologism and antiblackness #OR misogyny #like you can't just cast poc in leads roles and call it a day you know the issues are fundamental messages that are core to the story #wot lb
