The Elders seem to have a Thing about letting their subjects have too much freedom to procreate - you have the Sectoids who are all cloned from the same base, the Vipers are only allowed one singular male to bring in the next generation... It's easy to extrapolate from that, that our human norm of monogamy and marriage is outright discouraged among the Elders' subjects. You don't want your cannon fodder devoting to each other or to their children more than to their gods.

As such, Vipers (and likely, other aliens) probably are more likely to form polycules, or at least are more likely to have their own hook-up culture which is far more normal and less stigmatized than it can be among humans. Granted, the Elders probably don't like it that much better, but banning sex/romance entirely would be impossible. Better that (to the Elders' minds, at least) their subjects consider each other replaceable just as the Elders do.

I can imagine it as a site of culture clash after the occupation was over and aliens had to integrate into human society rather than exist on top of it.

Also if you look on Ao3 basically most of the XCOM tag is Human/Viper OC ships lmfao

What are your Viper ocs like?

I just have the one (Bond)!

Bond being a Thin Man who got into the humans' rebellion when XCOM HQ fell, and thereby never got modified back into her true form. She did get alterations similar to the Speaker's, in that she looks more believably human, but her eyes still give her away. Her work for the Rebellion is to regularly infiltrate ADVENT and sabotage it from within; if she needs to go undercover, she uses contact lenses, makeup, all the sexy spy things.

Bond is, personality-wise, the sort of prideful person that is mostly a façade but isn't very self-aware that it is a façade. She thinks she is, indeed, very proud of who she is and what she's capable of, and in her defense she can be quite judgy towards others who aren't as good at her particular areas of expertise (namely, infiltration). She's a hard worker who recognizes her own efforts. However, she's also the sort of person who believes her value is not inherent, that if she isn't being useful then what the hell is she here for. She also has a weak sense of self outside of her work, and wouldn't be able to describe her own personality if asked.

As for how others describe her, she's charismatic, versatile, a quick decision-maker, casually flirty and a bit of an attention-seeker. Her moral compass is a bit of a mess, in that she has no qualms about the dirtier parts of her job, doesn't even blink when presented with even the most depraved behaviour, and has a habit of playing Devil's Advocate when explaining the motives to those things even when she doesn't agree with them; but there are certainly things she would never choose to do, and she does have a streak of compassion that comes out whenever an ally needs help— something she doesn't hesitate to do, but simultaneously feels somewhat ashamed of, due to the indoctrination of the Elders.

(She's very much like a cult escapee that never fully unlearned the cult's teachings, essentially. Even long after leaving the service of the Elders, if asked what she wants for herself and her own life, the only answer she knows how to give involves being in service to someone else. Insisting that's not a valid answer just confuses her.)

She still considers herself a Viper, and most other aliens also refer to her as a Viper, regardless of her resembling human. Funny enough, I wonder if other Vipers would question the idea of Thin Men still being Vipers, or if they'd see them as an offshoot the way Berserkers are to Mutons, or if they're even further removed like Archons are to Mutons 🤔

But on that note, while she was growing up among her fellow Vipers, she had a reputation for being a "kiss-ass" and a "teacher's pet" lol

Hi! I hope this isn’t a dumb question, but when your comms say you have 3/3 slots, does that mean that all 3 slots are open or that all 3 are taken?

I cant seem to find a single universal answer among all the artists I follow >_<

For me at least, it means all slots are taken! (You'll note that in my most recent posts I say that the waitlist is open, meaning that someone who wants a commission will have to wait for me to finish what I've got so far.)

Don't worry, it's an understandable question! For the exact reason that different artists use the ratio differently, lol
