listen I know pretty little liars has been off air for like six years and I should probably stop letting this bother me, but I genuinely cannot get over the fact that they forced aria to marry her teacher and STALKER. their relationship is already disgusting enough before the season 4 reveal, but it’s only made worse by the fact that ezra was following around and exploiting multiple teenage girls. that man should be in JAIL. alex drake should have finished the job when she hit him over the head with that rock.

Unpopular Opinions: Pretty Little Liars

Ezria was not Romantic. It was Creepy.

I remember watching this show as a kid, and every time Ezra was on screen, it was literally me being like, "Okay so when is this fool going to jail?" Like i genuinely cannot believe that this show literally condoned and glorified this relationship, which is even more horrible when you remember that this show was mostly watched by young girls. And then when i found out that they were like the fan favorite ship, i could not believe it. NO! This relationship was far from okay, and I can not believe that writers let it go as far it did, even making her parents seem like the villains in the situation, when they were completely in the right for being angry and wanting to call the cops. And then they have them Ezra marry Aria, and adopt a kid together. Not only did he date Alison when she was a minor, but he knew Aria was her friend, he knew Aria was a minor, and he still pursued her anyway. He seduced her, manipulated her and groomed her. Has anyone ever asked the creators why they did this? Because if this show came out today, their would be people rioting.

95% of aria’s character became about her very illegal relationship in which she was groomed by her teacher who was stalking her Before they ever met because he was also dating her 15-year-old-at-the-time friend and it’s valid to dislike her but we (GENEROUS we. it’s just the fucking weirdos doing this) have got to stop pretending she’s just as bad as ezra because her character took a nose dive for the worst she is not. she is not his equal or wife she is his victim and she never escaped that cycle of abuse thanks for coming

Here’s a PLL AU: Ezra gets arrested and Aria gets with someone else? 👀

Omg yayyy Ezria hatred my beloved and I actually had a pre-existing headcanon in my head for this (spoilers for the end of PLL below the cut)

1. Okay soooo basically Alex has a crush on Aria ("you and I are gonna be best friends" gay coded shit) so when she escapes from Mona's dollhouse she anyways turns in that report she was holding over Aria and Ezra goes to jail </3.

2. Aria is upset at first and takes Katherine (who's still a baby so not old enough to form memories thank god) to visit him in jail buuut in therapy she realizes what a creep his ass is so she stops, gets a divorce, and also reports him for stalking all the Liars for the book and he gets extra years plus filing a restraining order for if he gets out.

3. (My favorite one) She moves in with Hanna and Caleb so now Aiden has his cousin to play with and she's then a badass single mom poet with her pal Pigtunia.

4. Tbh I mainly enjoy the idea of Single Mom!Aria but if she got with anyone either King Liam comes back orrrr she marries Wes just to keep the surname (“What? I wasn’t giving up on Mrs Aria Fitz just because of that crusty ass stalker.”) and to piss off Mama Fitzgerald.

5. When Katherine gets old enough (I imagine middle school because she doesn’t wanna keep up the cycle of keeping secrets from her kids till it’s too late) Aria tells her about Ezra and what he did but her mama loves her and protects her and it’s all good they’re good aaand they have a happy life with Aria Katherine the Auntie Liars and Pigtunia ❤️.

Reading PLL-books once again for nostalgia and am still so bitter that the show strayed so far from them, especially when it comes to the identities of A and some of the endgame-ships... Both will always have special places in my heart, but come on...some of the book-stuff would’ve been so amazing to see on screen.

I really love your pll edit for "how to cure a feminist" ! I never heard that poem so I looked it up and I was shocked at how funny and like lighthearted it started and dark a turn it took.

I am curious why you chose to put Aria at the like most intense part of the poem? no offense but compared to the other girls she didn't suffer nearly as much at A's hands.

Thank you, I'm very proud of that edit. And yes, Kait Rokowski's performance is a thing to behold.

While I could debate with you about how much Aria has suffered at the hands of A, I'm not gonna because that isn't really the point of the edit. In fact, if you think about it, the only ones' who's steps/edit have anything to do with A are Hanna's and Mona's. Emily's is about Lyndon, Alison's is about Cyrus, and Spencer and Aria's are both about Ezra. I picked Aria for the last cap because I wanted to emphasize how much Ezra has taken from her.

The edit was never about A specifically, it was a way to talk about how most of the villains in the show are trying to deny the liars (and Alison and Mona) their autonomy, which is what the poem is about. PLL as a show is a fantastic metaphor for what teenage girls go through with people policing their bodies and shaming them for their actions/secrets. I've always loved how often the girls' suspect people of being A who are truly terrible people, their paranoia is absolutely correct that these people are out to get them.

Aria is supposed to be the unique one, she's also often emphasized as being independent and able to stand on her own. Ezra takes a lot of that away from her, slowly over time. (One of the best narrative examples imo is when he gives her the dress for the winter dance in season 5. It's a beautiful dress, and appropriately on theme, but it's not really what Aria would pick for herself) And Aria marrying Ezra isn't exactly framed in the warmest, fuzziest light. It's framed more like Ezra is the villain that won. I read Aria's ending as a tragedy, not a happily ever after. It's Bluebeard's wives, not Cinderella.

aria montgomery deserved better 2kforever like. in these first two seasons, her relationship with ezra is hard to watch (in more ways than one! i sometimes find myself rooting for them not to get caught, largely because i like and have sympathy for aria but also because the actors do genuinely have good chemistry. but then i remember how fucked up it is! that’s why the romanticization of this relationship was so dangerous!) - anyway. it was hard to watch and messy but she also had like. other things in her story that at least made her feel like a more fleshed out character. and i always see people saying things about how she’s not as kind as she acts like but she literally shows so much empathy to. most people. and her role as a psuedo caretaker/fixer in her family is so nuanced and interesting and informs a lot of how she interacts with ezra (she feels like she’s been forced into a more adult role, so she courts this adult ‘romance’. ugh.) and it legitimately could have been a nuanced and interesting story about family dynamics and the pressure on teenage girls in their roles in family and how that can be connected to grooming if it had been written that way but!!!!

anyway her story just becomes more and more entangled with Only Being About Ezra from what i remember. which is one of the reasons people kept theorizing about her being A but. i just see it as isolation (not total, she is obviously still very close with her friends, but there is a sort of disconnect.) and then they get MARRIED????? she deserved better for real.

there's no fucking way I saw a tweet showing a picture of the quote unquote 'top 9 worst characters on tv'. and the op had the AUDACITY to put Rachel Berry and Elena Gilbert on the same level as Nate Jacobs (an abuser) and Ezra Fitz (a pedophile)? Like yeah, Rachel and Elena aren't perfect, far from it actually, but putting them on the same level as A PEDO AND AN ABUSER is a whole different level and where I draw the line

and I'm also wondering where the fuck is Lucas Scott on that list cause in my opinion he's WORSE than Rachel and Elena combined if we wanna play it that way
