why do you think skamit's renewal isn't a good idea? not in a confrontational way, i would genuinely like to know.
it's mostly that im just tired of skam remakes and want us as a society to move on from them SO badly. so unless a remake isn't actually a very very good show that gets renewed (and the only one that still falls into that category is druck- im absolutely rooting for my ava late summer/fall season) i just. want them to be cancelled. skamit is imo not even one of the remotely good remakes and the show should have just ended where it ended? i dunno i think everyone knows by now what made this show very problematic so being renewed is kinda undeserved and after having seen the trash fire that is shadow and bone being renewed for a second season despite the fatphobia, ableism, colorism and biphobia in the writing/casting of the show i get continuously mad at bad, problematic shows being renewed whereas actual good shows are getting cancelled :/

Just to let you know they didn’t pretend Sana in skamit was Arab. Her mother is turkish etc. They didn’t pretend she was a POC, but she was still absolutely Muslim. It was an excellent season so I’d recommend if you ever get the chance
She was meant to be half Tunisian and half Italian which was meant to be a tribute to Iman Meskini (who’s father is Tunisian and her mother is Norwegian). Tunisia is a North African country with a PoC population. And they got a white non Muslim actress to portray her which is the very definition of whitewashing and I’m forever confused as to why skamit fans refuse to recognise this and to make people who don’t want to watch this remake because this is a hard line for them watch the season. I’m not saying people cannot like skamit - go right ahead and watch what you want but for me I refuse to watch a show that whitewashed it’s one main WoC character.
Also saying Turkish people aren’t PoC is a controversial statement and one that I am not touching with a barge pole because it’s totally not my place to wade into that debate.

Lol if you watch or defend skamit in any way shape or form YOU’RE A RACIST! Here you are defending a show for backing their white actor saying the N word and hiring a white girl to take off her hijab for men... Skam Italia literally gets it all wrong and people still defend it... keep defending your right to be racist baby we see you.

People using skam nl to shit on skam italia are so clueless, skam nl was cancelled due to budget problems of the network, who is a public network run by the government btw, so skam nl cannot be funded by other companys and the rights cannot be sold, but go on i guess

the most racist skam getting a HUGE platform with potentially international viewership .... 🤢 🤢
Background for anyone who hasn’t heard: Netflix will reportedly be distributing SkamIt along with TimVision, the network that currently owns the rights to it. It’s probably true, but at this point (Dec. 18, 2019) it has not be confirmed, afaik by either network. Check this link for more info, I just copy and pasted everything into google translate. NOTE: I don’t know if this is a legit Italian news source, but it’s one of the couple that came up when I googled “Netflix skam italia.”
I am also truly sickened by this news, especially during Wana’s season BUT I also want to point out a few things that have been helping me feel a bit better:
- Just because it’s streaming on Netflix in Italy doesn’t mean it’ll be available internationally. There are some shows that are only available in certain countries and hopefully this will be one of them.
- Just like when TimVision put their S3 behind a paywall, this is probably what they’re doing by having this deal with Netflix. It’s all about it making money for them. Which strangely makes me feel better because it just continues to validate that SkamIt’s showrunners ain’t shit and don’t care about what Skam is at its heart. It’s not a big corporate show, it’s supposed to be easily accessible and free to a country’s teens. Putting it up on a network that you must pay for is so antithetical to its initial mission and tone that it’s just sad imo.
I’m definitely feeling the frustration, especially in light of Skam Austin having no S3 announcement and Skamnl being cancelled. And let’s also remember that companies like Netflix only care about their bottom line - making money. And if the racists that stan It want to pay for it, that’s their coin going down the drain. Honestly, they probably also did it because they know it’ll stir up controversy - bad press is still press. There’s no way they don’t know about how it’s a racist mess, but I’m positive that they don’t care AND they want the buzz to get going about this deal.
I’m definitely not saying “don’t call it out anymore!”, I think that definitely still needs to happen. But all of this is just free marketing for them too. So for now my plan is to keep ignoring that trashfire and keep promoting the Skams that are actually worthy of our time. If I wanted to watch trashy teen TV on Netflix I already have a number of options LMAO.
- Jennifer

most to least nooreva potential. no I don't want to hear alternate takes on this.
nooreva og: the actual original blueprint of distinguished lesbian and cinnamon roll bisexual. i have never seen a love story more tender. got 100+ screenshots with fake subs saved in a folder called [nooreva movie 2016] also totally not related my absolute projection on noora cemented my realisation that i'm not straight and helped me feel more comfortable with important things like giving all my love to my friends and hating men... anyway nooreva married, sun and moon pastel girlfriends excellence i hope they're happy :)
liv/isa: s2 did many things wrong but liv and isa come CLOSEST to nooreva, soulmates with sexual tension vibes, that first meeting with isa going 😳😳 seeing liv sing was pretty gay imho and also they are like the only nooreva aside og where both parties seem well balanced on the gay aspect.
eleonora/eva: skam italia is hot garbage but let me tell you something real quick eleonora and eva are doing something for me, I'm not sure what benedetta's cue was in ep 1 but when she stroked ludovica's face and stared after her longingly im be honest things were felt,, they were also one of the most touchy feely noorevas of s1 and I actually love that Ele seemed close to eva in S3 too. also in S2 ep 1 when ele was talking about her female roommate in London and eva said "now you're making me jealous" with that little shaky break in her voice and no one ever acknowledged that comment...it still haunts me in my dreams..LASTLY they remind me of myself and this girl I liked anywho
mianna: you guys are onto something I'll give you that, personally I do not ship it, but there is Loads of Evidence....the intimacy in their clips together is QUITE something....I just feel my Geiger counter shows zero when I try to assess Hanna but I'm probably wrong and it's probably because s1 druck bored me I'm very sorry but mianna is v valid I'm just too dumb to analyse it.
manon/emma: I've never seen skamfr and I'm too afraid to ask but manon (not S4) is a cute disaster lesbian I think, I've seen those nooreva parallel sets and I think she's endearing idk about emma but yeah u know
nora/eva: they are both babie bisexuals and I love them and I know for many they are the straightest nooreva but their friendship is a love story that is so tender I can't rank it lower on the list also when Nora stroked Eva's hand in the washroom when she was crying and called her beautiful,, I think love is strange and wonderful.
zoe/jana: wtfock is scary but s1 zoe/jana are ridiculously cute and the serenading scene is so cuddly and warm; they just seem very at ease with other.... I won't say they are absolutely straight
grace/meg: that's a straight nooreva if I ever saw one HSJNS LISTEN I love their friendship in S2 but on a scale of 1-10 their gaydar is at -5 methinks.

The funniest thing to me about skamit is when they cast Wana everyone was like “well they had to cast a white non Muslim because Italy doesn’t have Muslims” and when talking about why Wana’s season should happen everyone is like “but they talked to so many Italian Muslims to make it authentic”

It’s astonishing (not) how easily people can overlook racism but then again yt people will love their own no matter what ... what’s truly shocking is the people of color still supporting this show but you know at the end of the day the truth is all we got and their opinions is all that matters to them

I don’t know how much of you saw the entire discourse in skamit s4, but there were muslim hijabi women who said if you don’t wear hijab you are not in any position to judge them( i can tell you the person but seeing how ignorant you are)
woooah there, anon, how ignorant i am? good morning to you too!
i always try to be careful when talking about the sana season because i'm not a muslim woman, that's why i held back from making actual posts about the scene in question and just talked in the tags about it a couple of times. if hijabis felt satisfied in skamit's representation of muslim culture, then i can't do anything but feel happy about them. but implying that only muslim women can judge this season, when the show caters to teenagers of all places, ethnicities and sexualities, is a bit... too much.
i'm not a muslim woman but it made me very uncomfortable to see her surrounded by guys who supposedly like and respect her, insisting that she takes her hijab off (saying that they're gay so it doesn't matter), not one of them maaaaybe realizing that they shouldn't be pressing a muslim woman to take off a garment that is representative of her religion, cheering her on as she does and then gasping/calling her hot when they see her hair. as a non-muslim woman who tries every day to unlearn the islamophobia i've been taught since i was a kid, all of that made me uncomfortable for the reasons i've already explained - the framing of the scene is weird and it's a "comedic" moment that doesn't have any sort of impact on the plot or characters, and the implications of a muslim girl taking off her hijab to please her (white? can i even say white in this description since sana is played by a white woman) non-muslim friends are... questionable at best.
even if you still think that i can't have any sort of opinion over that scene or the general treatment of sana in the show (which hey, i've never tried to talk over muslim women and since i'm not in the fandom i don't know what the discourse was about - browsing the tag just gave me insight to gioeva, incantava and nicotino and nothing about muslim women talking about how they felt about the portrayal of a muslim hijabi teen living in italy), skamit isn't only at fault when it comes to sana. they whitewashed their cast, didn't even bother adapting the role of sana to a white girl converted to islam and instead pretended that she was arabic, kept a scene of one of their actors saying the n word, just to name a few. and non-race issues are there too, some overlapping with og and other remakes and others made all by themselves - i've talked about them in my reviews of the show.
and as a skam españa blog, i've also been critical of their lack of and treatment of poc in the show, before anyone gets the wrong picture. but i shouldn't have to list all of my minority status when talking about a mainstream show that decides to portray a group i'm not a part of. it is extremely important to listen to what muslim women have to say about the show and what their view about that is, and i realize my faults there and i'm committed to make the skamverse fandom a place where hijabis' views are brought up and listened to. but implying that only muslim women are allowed to express opinions about a season of a show that, again, caters to all kinds of teenagers (a show with a predominantly white cast whose three previous mains have been white), is a reach.
