Air with Amiri Baraka - WDR Studio, Köln, Germany, March 20, 1982
I've been loving this forthcoming Blank Forms collection of the pioneering Black Arts publication The Cricket.
The details: A rare document of the 1960s Black Arts Movement featuring Albert Ayler, Amiri Baraka, Milford Graves, Sun Ra, Cecil Taylor, and many more, The Cricket fostered critical and political dialogue for Black musicians and writers. Edited by poets and writers Amiri Baraka, A.B. Spellman, and Larry Neal between 1968 and 1969 and published by Baraka’s New Jersey–based Jihad productions shortly after the time of the Newark Riots, this experimental music magazine ran poetry, position papers, and gossip alongside concert and record reviews and essays on music and politics. Over four mimeographed issues, The Cricket laid out an anticommercial ideology and took aim at the conservative jazz press, providing a space for critics, poets, and journalists (including Stanley Crouch, Haki Madhubuti, Ishmael Reed, Sonia Sanchez and Keorapetse Kgositsile) and a range of musicians, from Mtume to Black Unity Trio, to devise new styles of music writing.
A must-buy for anyone interested in the intersection of jazz, R&B, the Black Power movement, poetry and the Gastetner mimeograph machine.
As a treat, here's a rarity to listen to — Amiri Baraka joined by Air (Henry Threadgill, Fred Hopkins and Steve McCall) for a fiery live-in-the-studio performance, with Baraka reciting his sharp-edged poetry over lively improvisations from the trio. I don't know how often these four guys played together, but it sounds fantastic here, a powerful blend.

A LOT of people are coming at me saying not to use Ubuntu, BUT I do wanna clarify: I specified Ubuntu for a particular reason, and that is the fact that it's so widely-used that there are just endless resources available to help people who have never used Linux before if they need it. Like. No, it's not the best for privacy or anticommercialism, BUT it is an excellent gateway distro for newcomers because there are super readily available training wheels! EVERYONE has used it at least once if they use Linux, and there are thousands if not more of articles and how-to tutorials and guides on using Ubuntu. I wrote my original post aiming at helping people who have never used Linux before and who would inevitably end up needing to teach themselves how to use it, and chose Ubuntu to advertise since it would be the easiest for those people to teach themselves about!

Our limes are flowering and starting to show tiny little limes. Definitely one of my favorite citrus plants to grow. The smell of the flowers, fruit, and leaves are divine! Lime trees have been growing here in Haiti since 1520 via Spanish and Portuguese pirates... correction... “sailors.” Kind of crazy how much more expensive they’ve gotten here since the Clinton’s and Sean Penn started their lime grove. I wonder if the two have anything to do with each other 🧐🙃. ・・・ #growninhaiti #mexicanlime #haitianlime #keylime #MakeHaitiGreatAgain #Buildawall #keeptheimmigrantsout #expatriotic #anticommercialism #screwyourbusiness #haiti #ayiti #SaviorComplex #selfsustaining #WeDontNeedYou #thanksbutnothanks #flowerpower https://www.instagram.com/p/B7TuWi_lt3T/?igshid=uh0wdo7kixrh

I think every single Tumblr Popular musician with entitled fans who talk about how listening to them is an act of social justice and anticommercialism should do a collaboration with either Taylor Swift or Rammstein just to see what happens.

#1994 #beck #beckfan #album #anticommercial #mellowgold #loser - 1994, Mellow Gold is the third studio album by Beck. Its decidedly anti-commercial attitude led it to become an unexpected commercial success and it has sold over 1.2 million copies in the US.The robot on the cover of Mellow Gold was created by artist Eddie Lopez, who made a cameo in the music video for the hit song "Loser". The sculpture was named "Survivor from the Nuclear Bomb." The final title used, Mellow Gold, was named it after a potent strain of California marijuana. @beck @beck.fans https://www.instagram.com/p/BuezaKBFM_S/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=fqdl5exf26ns

In asking Nabokov to emphasize theatrical composition in his creative writing course, [Howard] Lanz claimed, ‘playwriting in America is the most popular and practical form of literature.’ This very popularity was, for Nabokov, part of the problem, and in “The Tragedy of Tragedy” he argued that the ‘best plays of today are on the level of magazine stories and fat bestsellers.’ This commercial imperative was bound up with the collaborative process of staging plays, which Nabokov felt were too often inhibited by an attempt to anticipate perceived audience demands, and that the ‘only audience that a playwright must imagine is the ideal one, that is, himself. All the rest pertains to the box-office, not to dramatic art.’ This chimes with the final paragraph of “The Creative Writer,” in which Nabokov urges the prospective author to evict the ‘monster of grim commonsense’ before it can ‘whine that the book is not for the general public, that the book will never, never—And right then, just before it blurts out the word s, e, double-l, false commonsense must be shot dead.’ In this way, Nabokov links formal determinism with market forces, the rejection of which were an established part of his cultural politics. Yet while his theory of inspiration and artistic creativity was part of a wider strategy to insulate his work from biological, psychological, and sociohistorical determinism, he cannot isolate his literary production from the market. In his conceptualization of the process of inspiration, the work of art is envisioned as an idealized book. The book is not in reality a transparent vessel for pure art however; it is a technology designed for the more efficient production, preservation, and circulation of writing and however private the moment of Nabokovian inspiration is, that it comes in the shape of the book anticipates its future socialization. Nabokov’s autonomy from the market is complicated by the implication that the material form of the book is fundamentally bound up with its status as artwork. The process of book production, and the fact that books are marketplace commodities, has historically determined the shape that literature has taken, with the three-volume structure of the nineteenth century novel, demanded by the lending libraries, being perhaps the bestknown example. It is interesting therefore that Nabokov’s theory of inspiration placed such emphasis on the idea of the book, haunted as it is by the spectre of market determinism, and did so at the very point (the early 1940s) when his cultural politics were most stridently anticommercial.

Best commercial of the night? Eli Manning lifts Odell Beckham, Jr. in ‘Dirty Dancing’ tribute
Was it the best commercial of the night?
NBC’s broadcast of the Super Bowl — the year’s biggest television event — included a commercial from the NFL featuring Eli Manning lifting Odell Beckham, Jr. during a “Dirty Dancing” tribute.
It’s not the only moment that has people talking on social media.
NBC suffered a brief hiccup early in the second quarter when the screen went to black.
The announcers tossed to a commercial break, so viewers didn’t know what had happened.
Some people turned the TV set off and on, thinking the set had malfunctioned. Others changed the channel to troubleshoot. And others checked social media to see if it had happened to everyone.
Yes, it did. The blackout was seen in homes across the country — in front of an estimated 100 million people.
At first, NBC spokespeople said they were scrambling to find out what happened.
About a half an hour after the blackout, an NBC Sports spokesperson had an answer.
“We had a brief equipment failure that we quickly resolved. No game action or commercial time were missed,” the spokesperson said.
The statement was designed to squelch speculation that NBC had lost millions of dollars by misfiring an ad.
Each 30-second spot during the four quarters of the game cost about $5 million, according to NBC executives.
By saying no “commercial time” was missed, NBC might be indicating that network promos were supposed to air during the blackout time.
But the network didn’t immediately respond to follow-up questions on Sunday night.
“This is the best ad yet,” the Washington Post’s Philip Bump tweeted.
Josh Greenman of the New York Daily News asked, “Was there really a commercial for anticommercialism?”
Red State contributor Mickey White joked: “#DeadAir coming this Spring on NBC.”
In any case, the twitterers who said they suspected a North Korean missile attack or a crippling hacker strike can rest easy.
An “equipment failure” can happen anytime. But it rarely happens in front of the entire country!

Lost treasures of Epic Metal 3: Medieval Steel
Lost treasures of Epic Metal 3: Medieval Steel
Another great band from old that it still keeps up the hammers of epic metal is Medieval Steel.
A band that remained mainly unknown and totally anticommercial for more than thirty yeats. It had been ended many times and as many it started again.
currently they are active and if they wish i could a review on their last album.
Enjoy!
