The Ancients.... the 3 oldest rings in my collection. A gold Roman ring dating from the 3rd century AD feature an intaglio of Sol, the Sun god. A 14th/15th century ring featuring a sapphire in a cupped setting. During the middle ages, sapphire was believed to shield the wearer from harm and disease and was used as an antidote to poison. A 13th/14th century ring featuring a garnet in a simple pie-crust, rubbed over bezel, typically worn of lower nobility. Bottom two are personal - top garnet ring is available. Due to a technical error entirely of my own (un)doing, this ring was unavailable in the shop. Error now corrected. I'm sure I'll break something today to compensate. 🤦🏻‍♀️ Being released from my personal collection, rare high karat gold medieval garnet ring, dating from the 13th to 14th century. The glowing garnet is set in a simple pie-crust bezel, which has been rubbed over the stone. This type of ring was fashionable from the 12th century, with a garnet typical of English tastes at the time, as garnet was more obtainable than a higher priced ruby. A great example of a more affordable medieval ring, worn by lower nobility such as Knights, Ladies and the merchant class of northern Europe.
