re prev post I feel like those mushy utopian fantasy/period pieces stem from a lot of mid 2010s online takes to the effect of “you’re problematic if you choose to write about a world with homophobia and misogyny in it” that didn’t take into account how oppression underpins a lot of the societal structures and tropes of fantasy/genre fiction. not bridgerton though bridgerton sprung to life fully formed with “racism was bad until the king married a Black woman <3” like unto Athena from the head of Zeus
