I don’t see any benefit of Max to Merc for either side.
Max has everything he wants at Red bull. A Newey car, the best race engineer, a team principal who goes to bat for him, grandpa helmut, a competent pit crew, good strategists, undisputed priority in terms of car development…what do Mercedes’ have to offer him. An ambassador role? He has been very open about what he wants to do after f1 and it’s not to be car commercials or hanging around the F1 paddock. I guess Merc could offer him full funding for future ventures but Red bull is sponsoring them now, and Red bull have more of an infrastructure around sponsoring other sports/esports. Plus we know Max has a built in relationship with rb GmbH. So Merc is on the back foot in every aspect.
On Merc’s side…they’re not going to have a good car till 2026 at the earliest. So Toto wants to take a seat away from George, a loyal, consistent driver who probably makes minimal demands, so give the seat to Max for three years before Max can’t be bothered with it anymore? Not to mention Max brings with him his own team which I doubt Toto really wants to deal with. Or he gives Max the seat he’s earmarked for Kimi, Kimi goes to another team, and Toto has done exactly what he did in 2015 - lost a young talent because he was gaga over a ready made package. This is to say nothing of how he will alienate George by bringing Max in as first driver. Toto would really be upsetting the Apple cart in a team that already doesn’t have a clear direction. And he’d be doing that for 3 years of a top driver before he’s back in the same position all over again except once again he’s missed the boat on good young drivers. Maybe if he could get Kimi a Williams seat it could give him a time buffer but even then he’s risking teams approaching Kimi because of how bad Williams is. So I just don’t see that Toto would really get his money’s worth out of Max if I’m honest.
As for Merc and their glory days…the glory days were the engine. They always had questionable strategy and often had slow pit stops. No one noticed because they were 40 seconds ahead. I’m not saying they’re a bad team by any stretch but everything except their car was always an upper midfield operation. On the rare moments when the car/driver couldn’t do all the work, they left the window open for other teams to take wins. That’s why the domination was not like Red Bull’s. They were consistently making mistakes.

as an aside, and not to gatekeep - bc new fans are good and there isn't any one way to enjoy f1 - i also just find it a bit funny that a lot of the "interpretations" from lestappen gate-ers will talk like they have been in f1 for ages and talk abt grand narratives re. teams and how they image construct, but i know for a fact that a fair few of them literally just got into f1 the past 2 years. i do think that the recency also plays into how catastrophizing they are abt ferrari's suckiness. like, these people have not been through the illegal engine and ensuing penalty years lol.

Le tableau de bord repensé avec un grand écran tactile de 15,1 pouces qui contrôle presque tout ! et les jauges numériques ont maintenant une forme rectangulaire plus simple. Honda affirme que les composants du groupe motopropulseur électrique s'intégres pour économiser de l'espace et offrir plus d'espace à l'intérieur. I genuinely wanna know Red Bull’s thought process when they renewed Checo for 2 years. I get if it was a 1 year extension, but 2 years is wild in my opinion. Especially considering Ferrari and Mclaren have been getting stronger as this season progresses.
But also, are they really not planning to give a seat to their junior drivers? They’d be wasting talents like Liam Lawson if that’s the case.
I think the process is stability. That team has more than enough in-fighting going on without a second driver with his own agenda. Checo plays second fiddle happily, the cheques clear on time, and he gets in the car and drives. Where else are you going to find a driver that is happy to just get on with the way things are at Red Bull? They’re few and far between on the grid. Maybe Checo loses them the constructor’s, but a driver trying desperately to get top billing would potentially lose them the WDC as well. And a driver making waves may well lose them Max. They don’t want to upset the apple cart, which by the looks of things only has three wheels anyway.
I think Toro Rosso needs to go back to being a junior team but it’s clear Daniel’s links to Scott and Zack Ashley had a lot to do with that title sponsorship so he’s going nowhere and they can’t get rid of Yuki for another year even if they wanted to which I don’t think they do right now. So that’s that on junior drivers.
That being said, I think Liam has cooked his chances by spreading rumours. And honestly, as much as I believe Liam deserves an F1 seat, he isn’t the next Verstappen so I think RBR is fine with hedging their bets on him. If they find the next big thing they will find the space but that hasn’t happened yet.
I think if anything they are most focused on building an engine that will keep Max in the team, and if that fails they will cross that bridge when they come to it.
Signing Checo is a show of confidence that they can get the car back in working order though because if there was no hope on the horizon surely they would have shopped around a bit more for someone who can at least back Max up a bit better? Because if they lose him the 2025 title I don’t see him even giving them a margin of error for 2026. So they must think they will be able to claw back a car that Max, at least, can win with

FUTURE The 100% electric flying capsules from the start-up Caps are presented as a green solution for moving quickly and easily in large cities.
The VivaTech trade fair, organized in Paris, was an opportunity for the French start-up Caps to unveil a new revolutionary means of transport. Autonomous, this new mode of transport takes the form of a single-seater flying capsule that allows you to move, alone and easily, from one place to another in large metropolises.
The device is in the form of a rounded sarcophagus, surmounted by a module with several propellers. The start-up ensures that its capsule will be able to fly autonomously within a radius of 20 km at a maximum speed of 70 km / h, all at altitudes between 150 and 300 meters. The machine will therefore be able to largely fly over passers-by, cars and other bridges in large French cities, but also certain buildings, thanks to its 8 100% electric motors.
Travel will be done independently, so passengers will have nothing to do. The start-up still indicates that a pilot will be able to take remote control of the capsule in the event of a problem. In addition, the aircraft carries an emergency parachute.
