#Halloween #architecture - The Victorian haunted house from Psycho (1960) to Stranger Things (2022). Why is this iconic architectural style so popular in movies, comics, and tv series?
It all began in the late XIX century as a symbol of wealth to become a synonym for decay, dread, and death at the beginning of the new century. As Edward Hopper captured in the 'House by the railroad' painting in1925.
Since then, hundreds of movies feature that iconic lonely and neglected wooden building with towers and turrets, a front porch, Gothic elements, intricate woodwork, and steep French-style roofs.
From The Addams Family (1939) to Haunting on Hill House (1965), from Beetlejuice (1988) to Ghostbusters (various movies), The Others (2001), Crimson Peak (2015), IT (2017), and so many more.

“In a society where the impact of images and connections is increasingly overwhelming, silence has become a true luxury” says Elisabeth Leriche to Archipanic. The reduction of materials, geometric abstraction, transparency, halo effects, wireframe structures, ethereal hues and black and white comprise the formal rules of silence.

What if kids could contribute to design their own kindergarten?  Dorte Mandrup's Ama’r Children Culture House in #Copenhagen is the first playhouse developed with children’s fanciful and fun input. The result is an architectural Villa Vellekulla, the famous home of children-book character Pippi Longstocking. “The project does not have a start and end as other ordinary houses do” say at Dorte Mandrup Arkitekter.“The studio considered the children’s countless ideas and wishes through- out the design process. They have created a house with many intriguing angles, caves and stairs that provide a wealth of opportunities for creative expression and exploration. Just like the kids wished for” said Nild Regout, Head of Ama’r Children’s Culture House.READ MORE: http://www.archipanic.com/dorte-mandrup-arkitekter/

(via Archipanic explores the best of Tokyo contemporary architecture) Are you ready to get lost in architecture? Welcome to Tokyo!
Check these 3 traveller tips and read our mini-guide of the best contemporary architecture in town! 1. Remember to look up and down as many galleries, restaurants and venues are not on street level – which is called 1st floor or 1F. - 2. Don’t expect to find street names – not even in Japanese – and do not rely much on locals’ fluent English. - 3. Get a subway rechargeable Pasmo card and sharpen your Google Maps skills.
