Behind the scenes of ICY mv, Areum was watching Chaer do her scenes, each time that the director called cut she would coo over her. Areum would pinch her cheeks and speak to her, MIDZY loved seeing her constantly dote over Chaeryeong and make sure she was enjoying herself for filming

During a radio interview the girls were asked what was one of their most impactful moments with another member, and Chaer mentioned how Areum would sit with her and remind her how much she was a valued member of the team. When she was speaking, Areum was seen sitting next to Yeji wiping tears as Chaer got emotional and gave her a heartfelt thanks

Areum was never shy about her upbringing and her family, often excited to share memories and photos. When she was doing a vlive, Areum was speaking about fond memories with her family and members when she mentioned how she loved to bring Chaer with her on family visits. When the group was visiting a theme park, Chaer kept getting attached to but the girls were constantly saying that she could only get one thing to take back because she already owned so many trinkets and plushies. MIDZY favourite clip of the two that day was Areum whispering that whatever she wanted she could have because her unnie would get it for her

Many longstanding MIDZY fans are aware of how run down the group can get with constant hate and people telling them that they wouldn’t amount to the fame that their labelmates have. MIDZY notice that no matter what, the oldest is always there in the background cheering them on and encouraging them to constantly do better and allow for mistakes. A fan favourite moment would be from when Areum was monitoring a practice for Chaeryeong’s feature stage when the young girl kept getting frustrated with herself. The elder made her sit and speak out everything that she felt was going wrong and then used the examples to instead show her how she was improving so much. After the performance Areum was seen standing and yelling out cheers for her member, many seniors watching with fond looks

YEJI

Yeji finds Areum to be her confidant, having faced many issues with confidence and wondering if she was a good leader Yeji often finds herself leaning on her for support. When she’s overwhelmed Areum will step in to lead the group as the oldest and she prides herself on having Yeji as the leader of ITZY. Yeji often looks towards the older as a child would look to their mother and she is always ready to accept any and all praise from Areum at any moment

RYUJIN

The two of them often clashed as trianee’s, and since the timing of the girls being on MIXNINE and Begin Again overlapped the two didn’t get close until the older returned to Korea and they began practicing together. Ryujin reminds her that even though she’s the oldest, she doesn’t always have to look after everyone and everything, they’re a team. Ryujin and Areum aren’t viewed even now as close but MIDZY can see all the small ways they care for each other and they love their bond

Chaeryong is her favourite and everyone and their mother knows it. Chaer was the person who got closest to Areum first, having an older sister already she felt safe and protected by Areum as soon as they met. They would often send updates to one another when they were seperate and Areum and Chaer are often seen together, Areum loves to baby her and Chaer loves the fact that even though they had to grow up fairly fast she was still able to be a kid because of her

LIA

Lia and Areum are quite a troublesome duo, when they’re together they activate a very childlike persona and often leaves the staff and members watching them with stress and enjoyment. Lia is the clingiest to Areum and can be heard calling for her often. Lia also doesn’t understand how she is friends with almost every idol they run into, whether they be in the 4th gen or the 2nd

YUNA

Areum activates the embarrassing older sister when it comes to Yuna and she does it solely to get a reaction. The two have a very Tom and Jerry relationship but are undeniably the closest out of the entire group. Yuna mentions often about how Areum would always go out of her way to look after her and make sure she was doing well in school - she said that her family is very happy that she is lucky enough to have someone who cares for her as much as her parents do.

Synopsis: Areum find’s Yeji having a hard time and makes sure she know’s that she has someone to lean on

Areum was her girls biggest fan, she had been since she was placed with them - even when her and Ryujin weren’t the closest, she was still always there for her if she needed. She wasn’t used to being one of the oldest, she was always looked after and protected from the world, in every situation. So when she was placed in the group and they began training, it took her a while to wrap her head around the fact that she was the one to protect others now.

The role felt natural for her, she loved being there for people, she was there for her friends, even her dad had always told her how he was so lucky to have a daughter that he could always rely on. Whenever one of her girls needed her she was there.

She was there when Lia felt homesick, she always spent time with Yuna when she was struggling to get through her school work and balance her trainee now turned idol life. If Chaeryong argued with her sister, she was always the voice to outline her reason. Even Ryujun came to lean on her when she was struggling, trying to balance her power and the softness and dainty image that was placed on female idols, a stereotype that she desperately wanted to end.

So when Areum walked into their kitchen at 3am the last thing she thought she would see was Yeji curled on the floor hiding her face in her knees as her body shook with every breath. Yeji was under a lot of pressure, they all were. But for Yeji it was worse, she took everything that went wrong, every bad comment and every disappointed look as her own personal failure. Damned be the life of a leader she guessed.

“Yeji? Are you okay?”

Sniffling, Yeji looked into the eyes of her big sister. Areum’s eyes held no judgement, they never did when it came to big emotions. There wasn’t any pity, or hint of teasing. Areum was worried, scared even. Yeji couldn’t begin to imagine what she looked like, hair strewn in different directions, her eyes puffy and nose red underneath from the constant wiping she had done.

With eyes pleading for permission, Areum slowly approached her, making every move with calculated caution as you would when nearing a scared animal that needed help. Holding eye contact as she slid to her knees in front of her, she smiled a soft smile. One that held every bit of comfort and love that she needed right now.

Shifting her body, Areum gently coaxed her into her arms as sobs began filling the room. Even as she was dressed in long pants and a hoodie, Yeji felt cold, stiff even. Who was to know how long she had hidden herself out here, seeing how none of the others had been out here with her, the street lights still stayed casting intricate shadows on the walls as the world slept.

“I don’t think I can do it unnie”

Turning her face to look at her fingers, Yeji voiced her mind before Areum believed she knew she was,

“They shouldn’t have made me leader. I’m not strong enough, or smart enough. No one thinks I can do it and they’re probably right”

Groaning as she held her head, Areum was at a loss. For as long as they had been ITZY, before they had a name, Yeji, in her mind at least, was always the perfect choice. She could empathise with their concerns but was able to drown their insecurities with bouts of belief. Yeji fought for them, always. She was everything a leader should be and then some.

“It feels like nothing I do makes any sense now, I thought I knew exactly how we could handle things. I wanted us to break records and build this everlasting story that would stay with people forever. I wanted us to change how they all looked at us, I wanted to make them proud.”

Yeji sounded defeated, there was this suffocating pressure that was on her shoulders and to her it felt like it was a weight that had to be carried alone.

“Yeji, you couldn’t be more wrong”

Closing her eyes, Areum tightened her hold on the girl as she tried to move away, feeling unheard from her older member. Areum recalled words that her mum had spoken to her before she left,

“There will be a million different days that you are going to face, and sometimes it will feel like there’s this unwavering sadness that looms because you’re scared that the history you’re making won’t mean a thing. There are hundreds of voices that are going to tell you that you are never going to be enough, that you will never deserve to be given just enough”

A slight burn of tears began building in each of their eyes as they sat together feeling the weight of Areum’s words sit heavy in the air,

“ITZY isn’t guaranteed to be loved, or cared for. We will never know exactly where we stand and as much as I would love to promise you that everything will be okay for us I can’t. But what I can promise you, as your friend, your member and as your big sister who loves you more than any words could express. Is that you are not doing this alone. Yeji, there is no one in this group that could lead us better than you, even when we were trainee’s you were the only reason Ryujin and I even bothered to try and get along when practicing. You changed our lives and you never have to worry about not making someone proud.”

Pressing a light kiss to her head as Yeji reached to hold her hand, Areum spoke out a promise into the world that night.

“You make everyone that loves you proud Hwang Yeji. And for as long as I live, I will be here, by your side at 5pm or 3am, for as long as you need me to be”

“Even if I need you for forever?”

“Especially for forever”

As the rest of the members woke the next day, wandering into the kitchen they were greeted by the two girls asleep on the floor, dried tear tracks rested on Yeji’s pale cheeks and Areum’s arm tightly secured around her body holding her close as if she were to disappear into thin air.

No one pushed themselves to practice that day, simply spending it together and talking their hopes and dreams into the universe, waiting for the day where as a team, ITZY would conquer all they knew how

Areum Idol Friendships

GOT7 MARK

Mark and Areum became friends by accident, he found her practicing late one night and he was worried because she looked so young - because she always seemed to be the oldest when grouped with other trainee’s he made sure that she knew there was someone older than her who would be able to look after her. He was also the person who took her to get her first ever tattoo, the two are very close but sadly don’t get to speak of their relationship as much now (Areum due to her contractual obligations & Mark out of respect for her standing)

TXT YEONJUN

The two met at a dance class, both were trainee’s and they formed a natural competition between the other to see who would come out on top. As their friendship grew so did their bond, both of them are extremely supportive of one another and whenever Yeonjun is going through a hard time he calls her for her input. The two are labeled 4th gen visuals and whenever TXT and ITZY are in the same area for awards they sit angled so camera’s can capture them both. They have a very flirty relationship (much like his with Wooyoung, but due to netizens & other fans they can’t be their normal selves when interacting)

STRAY KIDS LEE KNOW

Lee Know is one of her favourite idols at their company, the two of them don’t have a public friendship but you can catch them at cafes and walking with each other around the company. Dating rumours sparked once when Areum posted a photo of herself cuddling one of his cats but it was never confirmed or denied. When in an interview Areum was asked about her ideal type and many said she described Lee Know but others say she was talking of one of her favourite idols, Taemin

2PM TAECYEON

Areum and Taecyeon formed a very sweet relationship when she joined JYP, the first time they met he fell over accidentally taking her down with him but he wrapped her in his arms so that she wouldn’t get hurt. He felt extremely embarrassed and Areum was in shock that a member of her favourite group was holding her, the two joke about it now and Taec is very vocal over sns of his support for her and she has been known to visit his drama sets. They were labelled the father daughter duo of JYP - he also teases her for her crush on his group mate, so she responds with teasing him about being old. Taecyeon would try and spend holidays with her and always encourages her to try new things as to grow both as an idol and artist but more importantly a person. He helped teach her that being an idol is second to being a good person with strong morals and an ever developing mindset

ALEXA

The two met through mutual friends and have a very public, very loved friendship. Areum has done dance covers of Alexa’s songs and Alexa praises her and ITZY whenever given the chance. The two of them have matching rings that they wear often and they have a tradition of dinner every week - whether in person or over video call

SEULGI

Areum was actually approached by Seulgi behind the scene of a music show, she admitted to being a fan of the young girl since her appearance on Begin Again and said she felt lucky to see her achieving so much - Areum was more so in awe that a senior idol outside her company knew who she was. The two became like a mother daughter duo and Seulgi talks fondly of her often and praises her for everything she does. If ever around each other, Areum will seek her out & Seulgi often places quick affectionate kisses on her head and taps her nose - there are many compilations of the two online

Synopsis: areum and taecyeon behind the scenes of Vincenzo as she makes his hair grey

note: my first written Areum post! I just had to include our girls number one leading man,, I genuinely love the bond I get to write between the two of them

Walking through the set of Vincenzo made Areum extremely self conscious, she had of course visited her senior many a times but it was always nerve wracking whenever she came by herself.

Holding her bag of sweets that she brought for all the staff and actors a little tighter she froze in her spot as she saw Taecyeon’s co-star walking her direction.

She knew that Taec was around here somewhere she just wasn’t sure exactly where and she knew if she freaked out he would never let her live it down, it would be the whole Kyun situation again.

The fact that he was consumed by his phone was something Areum was insanely thankful for as she quickly stepped out of the way as he came closer, doing her best to not exist in his path.

Letting out a small breath of relief after he passed, Areum whipped out her phone calling Taecyeon, counting the seconds until he answered.

“Could you have jumped any higher?” His voice chuckled out, rolling her eyes lightly she let him carry on his teasing,

“Yeah yeah we get it, where are you? There’s so many people and I’m lost..”

“Didn’t you arrive with a manager?”

Groaning, Areum repositioned the now, very heavy bag she was carrying as well as the coffee she brought in good will,

“Oppa! Come on I drove by myself and they almost didn’t let me in, please can you come get me?” Pouting, she really started second guessing the relationship that she had formed. Realising that he still hadn’t answered, Areum pulled her phone away from her ear and scoffed, he had hung up on her.

“Relax, I’m right here”

Turning, Areum had to stop herself from letting out a scream at his face, it looked to be covered in blood, and filled with cuts.

“If that’s real I’m leaving and calling Minjun oppa and getting you to pay for my therapy”

Areum felt a sense of pride wash over her as she heard the heartfelt laugh that broke from her senior, she pestered him enough for spoilers to know that it was fake, she could see the blend of makeup close up but she also knew how tired he was, which is why she came to visit.

Leading her out of the way for production, Taecyeon led the young girl over to a more quiet area as the crew got ready for the next scene to film, they hadn’t been able to see each other for a while and even when he came to the company for practice or recording the two were never truly able to cross paths from how busy she had been with ITZY. But he couldn’t have been more proud of her, he loved hearing updates not only from their weekly calls but from his members as well, knowing more than what she thought he did just for the sole fact he liked being able to know what was going on with her.

As they got situated, Areum passed over the now melting iced coffee as well as the bag of food for him to rummage through as she replied to the group chat telling them she arrived safe and would be home in a few hours as long as she didn’t get caught up.

“Areum, look”

Humming she lifted her head in the direction that he was pointing, and rolled her eyes with a soft be quiet in his direction too.

She knew coming to set would be a challenge, not only one of her favourite actors was working but the man who could use it against her sat next to her quietly sipping his coffee with a smug smile gracing his features.

“You know, if you embarrass me, the makeup artists wont need to spend hours creating cuts for you, I’ll do it for free”

Raising his brow at her comment, Areum simply blew him a kiss as she let her eyes wander around the set, Taecyeon closed his eyes for a fleeting moment as he rested. While she was still distracted, he simply admired her, the small girl he quite literally ran into back in the company had grown so much in what felt like the smallest possible time frame, he really wondered where time went while he was away.

He admired the small things about her, the way she had changed her hair style, she had even dyed it recently, the new piercings that dusted her ears making the light brighter when it got caught in the sun rays. Her face had matured, it wasn’t just the make up that she wore, even her fashion style had grown, she wasn’t that tiny little girl anymore and it made him want to stop time.

Seeing her quickly sit up and reposition herself made him take a look around, letting out an airy chuckle as he watched Dong Yeon head in their direction, raising his hand in a hello the young actor made a detour over to them.

“Oppa, if you embarrass me remember, you pay for my therapy” Shaking his head he leant forward to ruffle her hair just enough it got misplaced, as she smacked his hands away, the two barely noticed the others arrival,

“Hyung, you shouldn’t bully such nice people”

Dong Yeon was in casual clothes, his sunglasses now placed on top of his head.

Jumping up Areum gave the actor a bow,

“Hello, it’s nice to meet you I’m Areum” Scoffing, Taecyeon rolled his eyes at the change in her attitude,

“It’s nice to meet you too, I’m Dong Yeon. If Taecyeon had mentioned you coming I would’ve come earlier to greet you,”

Blushing slightly Areum bowed again, slightly at a loss of what to say to the man.

“You know she isn’t as nice as what you would expect”

Taecyeon let out a whine as she turned to smack his arm, slighter harder than normal, enjoying the flinch he did just slightly. She could hear the future notifications of him transferring her money for the emotional compensation he definitely would be owing her.

As he said his farewell, Areum felt herself collapse into the chair she was sitting in before as she let out a breath,

“Why are actors you work with so pretty… it’s unfair on my heart you know that right”

Rolling his eyes, he pulled her up as they moved so he could get ready for his scene, “What does that mean for me?” Shrugging, Areum chose not to answer as they continued walking, his arm losely holding her close to make sure she wasn’t bumped into. As he whined at her for an answer they were lost in their own world not noticing his other actors watching the two of them.

Taecyeon hadn’t been quiet when he spoke of Areum, all of them able to distinguish the young girl who walked with the actor through the set, each of them admiring how Taecyeon silently lead and protected her from wandering staff, her not flinching when he would swap sides with her or make her stop walking, the younger bowing at everyone who she made eye contact with without breaking conversation. He hadn’t been kidding when he said she was like his own, they thought even he was slightly exaggerating when he mentioned her little characteristics and quirks but seeing her in person it was like he had told them all far too little about the young idol.

As the two arrived, Taecyeon immediately turned to his fellow actors to try and settle the argument,

“Hyung, I’m pretty right? Tell her I’m pretty” Areum immediately started trying to pull herself away from the man, noticing he wouldn’t let go, a deep red started spreading across her cheeks as she squeezed her eyes shut. It was like he had no shame, but then again with half the things he had done and even been recorded doing she was surprised he had any dignity some nights.

Speaking in English, she pulled Taecyeon lower,

“Remember, you will be paying for any therapy from emotional damages”

Swatting him so he would let go, the young idol turned to the three actors standing in front of her,

“Hello, I’m Areum, I’m sorry you have to deal with him every day, thankyou”

Sharing a smile as Taecyeon began going off on a new tangent, Areum felt a hand lay on her shoulder,

“It’s lovely to finally meet the famous Yeo Areum, I’m Joong ki. Feel free to keep pestering him for your entire visit” Looking up into his eyes, Areum felt herself going weak in the knees,

“Ya, Areum if I were you I’d stop staring you might freak him out”

Rolling her eyes, she turned to him,

“Maybe work with ugly actors and I’ll give you my attention then”

Letting out a laugh, Joong ki loosened her grip as he was called for touch ups, promising to catch up with her later. Leaning into Taecyeon, Areum couldn’t wipe the smile from her face,

“You are so paying for my therapy sessions from today”

Groaning, he thre his head back,

“I don’t get it, what therapy are you milking from me kid”

Laughing as she walked off the set to a quieter spot, she replied with a simple shrug,

“Don’t worry, it’s just because you’re old Oppa, you don’t get it”

Areum loved set visits to see Taecyeon, especially when they ended up with the one and only Song Joong ki winking at her as she sat to watch them work.

Yeji : Words of Affirmation

Areum is constantly praising Yeji over everything, the relationship between the two girls is built and held together by unconditional love. Whether be in the way she helps guide the members or how she handles hard situations, Areum always makes sure to provide the right words for her

The two took the longest to get close, despite their struggles they did their best to let the other know they were there for one another. Lia often goes to Areum for quiet comfort, the two of them can sit in each other’s presence in silence for hours. Areum often invites her to help run small errands or to go grab drinks or snacks. Areum loves just being able to spend time with Lia and the two are often spotted by fans just walking around

Chaeryeong: Acts of Service

Areum isn’t shy over the fact that she loves to look after her members, when they met Chaeryeong was having a hard time and Areum was at a loss of how to comfort her. Hence the start of Areum mom agenda, over the years of being together Areum is aware of how much she lets Chaeryeong get away with things and how much she coddles her but she wouldn’t have it any other way. Everything Changed

synopsis: Areum and Minho sit and talk about how their lives are so much different now, and he also bombs a confession  prompt 4 “if you don’t fall asleep right now I’m pushing you off the bed”

note: i have no idea where this was heading but i’m not mad at it tbh... enjoy!

Minho and Areum were gathered in the olders room as the final credits rolled on the movie they had been watching. It was rare that the two friends actually had time to spend with each other. They were always cautious about hanging around each other, despite their close relationship it wasn’t something that they wanted to deal with in the public opinions. Having started their days off with the girl being dragged into his workout routine, she battled with him to visit a cute cafe that she had seen all over her social media - using promises of free food and grovelling to get him to agree.

The dorm where he resided was quiet, a very rare occasion with the boys who lived there but something that they were both thankful for. Picking up her phone, Areum gasped at the sheer number of notifications she had gotten from her girls. Minho let out a laugh as he looked over her shoulder at her phone, “Damn, it’s like they thought you died. Look at this one from Lia,” Clearing his throat he took the phone out of her hands, “Unnie, are you insane? No calls, no response, what if you were dead? What if you got kidnapped! For all we know you could be with some cre- hey!” His tone quickly became offended as he continued reading, causing the girl to snatch her phone back. 

“Serves you right for taking it creeper. Plus you won’t be laughing when I show you the picture that Felix snuck from your doorway when you were crying” Rolling his eyes, he pushed the laptop off the bed and stood stretching his limbs. “But in all seriousness, did you not tell your members that you were coming over?” Shaking her head, she reached her hand out for the discarded water bottle that lay resting on the blanket, “No I did, but I said we were only going to eat and it’s now 11pm at night and I’m not home. They just worry, it’s sweet”

Nodding in understanding, Minho thought to how he would react if it was one of the guys, but at the same time, he doesn’t baby his members as much as Areum. 

Areum watched him as he turned on the lamp, the two had always been close from the moment they met. In a way, causing many straying eyes to focus on them but he was still the same boy she met at the back of that dance class. At least that’s what she told herself. His newly coloured hair kept catching the light, and in his black tee you could really see the outline of his back and shoulders. “If you keep looking at me you’re going to burn a hole through me,” His tone held a smug sound, he leaned back on his desk as he caught her eye. “I’m just thinking…” Her quiet voice made him lift his brow, “About?” 

She just shook her head, not answering him as she laid back down, resting her head on his pillows. He was curious, he had felt her stares before but he never paid attention to them, most of the time it was a passing glance in the halls but it felt different here. Something was on her mind and he could tell by the way she curled herself up that it was troubling her, “Hey,” he spoke in a soft voice, moving slowly towards his bed, “You can tell me. What’s running through your head right now?” “You’ll think I’m being stupid” “Areum, I don’t think that, I know it. But I still wanna hear,”

Turning to his side, Minho was slightly shocked to feel her hug into him. Sure they were touchy, the skinship was comfortable for them but this was a different kind of hold, “You’re different. Everything is… ” Confused, he lifted her into a more comfortable spot on his chest, holding her as he waited for her to continue. 

“ It’s like, we know that time has passed. I mean, ITZY has been together for so long now and the debut of you feels like it was a lifetime ago. And you’re always off doing so many things and you’re so busy and even looking at old photos it's just, changed. Nothing feels the same anymore and I mean, we used to run and hide between dance lessons with cheap snacks from a convenience store and now we hide hanging out in our dorms watching movies after trying to not be spotted at expensive cafes. Like take today for example, we met at a gym where you got me to do this entire workout and when we were stopped I could hear the sound of a camera going, and then all these girls came to approach you and even when we were eating, I could feel the looks at us,” In the midst of her talking, her hand had reached to start playing with a loose thread on his shirt, his hands rubbing circles on her back. Minho had no idea how long this had been building up but he wasn’t going to interrupt her. 

“And when I was looking at you, it made me realise how much time had really changed everything. Like I said, stupid I know,” “Except it’s not. It’s weird sure, but we grew up Areum. We became idols and we got older and it’s just part of our life now. But it’s not all bad, I mean look at how handsome I’ve gotten over time.” He laughed out as she smacked his chest, “You ruined it… “ “I didn’t, I just broke the cloud you were creating. Ari it’s normal to feel like this, sometimes I miss it too but we just have to deal with a lot of these things now. You’re my best friend, and no matter how much time passes, how much life changes, we will still be us. Just different.” 

Nodding she sat up, pulling up her phone to send a message to the girls, “It’s late, I’m going to head home. I have recording tomorrow” 

As she shuffled off the bed, Areum pulled a discarded hoodie off the floor, “Hey, just because we had a moment doesn’t mean you get to steal my clothes” “Of course it does, goodnight sunbae” Dodging a pillow as she made her escape, Areum said a soft night, to the rest of the boys as she passed, promising to message when she got home safe.  

The door to the bedroom opened moments later, a cheshire grin painting the face of the culprit, “Best friend. You said best friend” His laughter filled the room as he pounced on his now sulking team mates bed, “Felix I will smack you,” As he was forced to move over on the bed as he pounced on him, he caught a lingering whiff of her perfume, “Dude, we left you alone the entire time and she pours her heart out to you after literally checking you out and you call her your best friend? Even Jisung isn’t that daft.” “I swear to god, if you’re just going to annoy me… “ “What you going to do? Crush my heart by calling me you’re be-” “I swear if you don’t fall asleep right now I’m pushing you off the bed” Giggling, Felix pulled out his phone sending an update about the situation, “Anyways do you wanna see the photos I took of you two all cuddled up, it’s quite sweet.” “You really need to stop spying on us when we’re together dude,” “So you don’t?” “Oh shut up and show me, I already saw the one you sent to one of her members”
