How Good Is The Digital Health Of Your Business? – Part 2
Tumblr media
This phase too shall pass, and we will be back to regular business.
As a reminder, in Part 1 of this article, I had given a few tips on how to check if your website is up to date and in line with today’s online needs.  I also gave some insights on SEO
In continuation, and for the benefit of small and medium businesses, here are a few tips to help you with your social media presence.
But before we start, here’s something to read that I had written a long time ago –The Ultimate Social Media Starter Kit for those who missed the bus!
The article explains in a simple format which platforms do you need to start getting on social media.
I am going to add a little more information to the blog.  To start with a few notes:-
Facebook Profile and Facebook Business Page are two different entities. I have seen some businesses make a profile in the name of their business. Profiles have limited reach, while pages could be boosted to reach a broader audience.
Though Facebook owns Instagram, the two audiences on both platforms are different, what works on Facebook may not work on Instagram and vice-versa.
Your product or service may be suitable for both the platforms, but tweak your content to resonate with the audience.
LinkedIn is a social network for professionals. Keep your language professional and your posts relevant to your business.
Choose your LinkedIn connections wisely.
Google owns Youtube, so having a Youtube channel makes sense to rank higher in the Google search engine.
Video marketing forms nearly 80% of social media content, so invest time in creating related videos.
While going live on Insta or FB, please ensure the quality of your audio and video. Your attempts will fail if your audience does not experience an excellent live session.
Podcasts are great marketing tools and simple to create. However, please ensure that your practice well on your voice and tone to resonate with your listeners.
Here is a list of Free tools you can make to use great social media content:-
For Creative Visuals on social media:-
Canva: Choose from tons of readymade templates according to the relevant social media post. Use your creativity.
Pexels: Loads of lovely photographs to choose from. Images here are free for commercial use, but it is better to give credit.
Freepik: Again, thousands of images and vectors you can choose from.
Piktochart: Excellent for infographics. The free version is suitable for starters.
Giphy: Tell your story with some animation. Lots of free gif images to choose from.
There are too many free tools out there to choose from, but for small businesses and startups, the above list is good enough to work upon.  For those you want to indulge in more, here’s an article from Hootsuite to explore more tools.
For animated video content:-
Animoto: This is a free drag and drop video creator. You can create great videos with your existing pictures, video clips, personalize it, and share it.
Doodly: Create whiteboard videos with this tool. Great for information sharing, process sharing, or any kind of explanatory information.
Toonly: Create incredibly animated videos using pre-designed characters. Ideal for small and medium business owners to showcase their products or services engagingly.
Disclaimer: Doodly and Toonly are paid but quite reasonable.
While I have given you quite some options to start creating great content with minimum investment, the most critical investment to make social media work for you is your TIME. Give it your best shot. Have patience. Keep trying to win big.
A final word of caution – please ensure that the tools or software that you use are from reliable sources and secured sites.  Ensure your systems are well-protected antivirus/anti-malware tools and not vulnerable to frauds or hackers.
I have loved writing these articles for you.  If you have enjoyed reading it, share them within your contact spheres as a token of appreciation.
If your business has a digital presence and you are already using a service provider, you could reach out to us for a digital market audit to ensure that your investments are working well for you.  Write to us.

Beauty Is Recession-Proof They Say But Here Are The Challenges Lying Ahead!
Tumblr media
Of the selective webinars I attended on the beauty industry, this one by the GCI Magazine and moderated by Jeb Gleason-Allured was one that I resonated with. It dealt with the Beauty Strategies for Uncertainty, how to survive, and thrive in the post COVID19 world.
Here are some key learnings from the webcast that I have summarized and I am sure many from the industry would resonate with the same.
The near-future implications in the Beauty industry worldwide:-
•       Consumers would be moving to self-care (or doing it at home regime).
•       Hygiene and safety will be a top priority, so there would be a natural shift to wellness products, supplements, vitamins.
•       Efficacy & functionality will be the driving force.
•       Trends will see natural botanicals on the top tier.
•       Consumers' sentiment will turn towards buying local products to boost the local economy as the focus will be to support the local economy.
On the other hand, retailers and distributors would face changes such as:
•       Drive is more towards stable and conventional products.
•       Reduced commitment and drive to invest in new brands and products.
•       Innovation and new launches will not be welcome for a long time.
•       Focus on a touchless environment and buyer safety.
•       Pushing traditional distribution to an online experience.
•       Cash conservation would be a high priority. (even if that means holding payments in the supply chain)
We are in unchartered territories, and everybody has a positive outlook on the future. I see the following challenges for importers:
•       Regulations and compliance could get more stringent as there could be an overlap in medical and cosmetic products.
•       Airfreight and Sea freight could see a steep spike in rates, thereby affecting the import pricing.
•       The cost of distribution could get really high, and that could call for increased pricing which means consumers' favourite brands could get more expensive.
•       There could be a shift in marketing investments from traditional ATL/BTL to an online digital experience via digital advertising (Influencers, please excuse - with ROI on every penny spent being focal, your influence may take a back seat)
Retail landscape will shift to contactless, safety measures for sampling, testing and experience for gaining back consumer confidence.
We are in unchartered territories and I call this 'The Great Correction Revolution' for many industries. 'The Long Pause' as some have coined this period is giving us time to think, prepare, and probably undo some regular business practices and write new ones.

How Good Is The Digital Health Of Your Business? – Part 1
Tumblr media
This phase too shall pass, and we will be back to regular business.
I have been reading so much on work from home and people doing their best to use this time productively.  From all my reading and observations, here is a list of things that I have compiled that people do while working from home to maintain business continuity (or rather visibility continuity):-
Team Meetings (keeping their staff motivated)
Mailing campaigns (I have received tons of them with various lucrative offers. Hardwork pays. These mailers are planting seeds for future business)
Going live on social media pages with their product or services.
Podcasts (There are tons out there with lots of great information)
Building database (through business directories or searches)
Engaging with trending hashtags (whether it matters or not)
And some people are busy creating memes and TikTok funny videos. (Laughing it off is better than sulking over a given situation, and if there is any ranking done, India will top the list on such content. I am proud to be a citizen of a happy country amid all odds)
Well, all of the above, in some way or other, is marketing yourself or your business on the Internet.  Every business, however big or small, is into digital marketing.  Some are great at it as they have inhouse teams taking care of their digital presence actively. And there are some who are using every possible digital platform to showcase their businesses everywhere. Signs of desperation! I am with you guys and understand your insecurities.
For the benefit of small and medium businesses, here are a few DIY digital health checks to prepare you to build a robust online presence.
In Part 1 of this article, I will cover Websites & SEO.  For Part 2, there would be something more to add for sure.
Website: Let us start with your website. For a strong online presence, a great site is a pre-requisite. Do check the following on your website:
When was it built? If it was built before 2017, time to get a revamp done.
Check it on your mobile? Is it readable, and the content fits your screen. If yes, it is mobile responsive.  If you have trouble viewing your website on your mobile, time to get it mobile responsive.
Check the social media link icons on your website. Are they directing to your social media pages?  If not, time to get your links corrected from your service provider. Maintain only those links that relevant to your business.  Some of the icons may be redundant. Get rid of them.
Check if all your products and services are listed on your website and are appropriately grouped. You may have added some new products or services since the website was built – time to get them listed.  Remember, search engines favor sites with regular updates.
Check your contact details. Does it need updation?  Send a mail from your contact form and check its destination.  Are you receiving mails?  If not, get it rectified from your provider.  You may lose business if someone is sending you a query, and you do not receive the message.
Your website is like a façade for your business or service. People have to be tempted to step in (enter your website), and stay there longer. Please stare at your website for some time and think – Will my target audience see my website and explore my products and services?
SEO (Search Engine Optimisation):
A great website is like an expensive painting on the wall.  However, the piece of art has to be in a place where people see it and appreciate it. If it merely stands on the wall of your backyard, how is it going to be noticed, and who will understand your great taste?
Using this analogy, think about your own business.  You have the best in class quality products and services, you are a great professional, and you have a great website! How will you expect to get business if there are no visitors to your website? SEO, SEM, SMM are some of the tools that direct people to your site.
In simple terms, your SEO is great if your website ‘organically’ ranks on the top page or at least in the first 2-3 pages of search engines.
So how do you check if your website is search engine optimized?
Here are a few tips and tricks:-
Make a list of 50 keywords that you think people would type searching for your range of products or services. Check if those keywords are strategically placed in your website content. If you don’t find them, time to look out for an SEO expert.
Type those keywords one by one on Google search and check whether your website is appearing on the first five pages. If not, time to hire a SEO agency.
There are a lot of SEO Free tools available on the net. Type your website URL into one of them, and you will see a basic SEO check that will list all the problems on your website. Some of the free SEO tools are found in this article. CLICK Here
Make good use of the web to enhance the visibility of your business online, but remember to be safe on the net. Cybersafety is essential. If your computer is not protected by antivirus, then I would highly recommend that you first buy antivirus software like Quickheal to ensure basic safety from malware that could hit your computers and hack it too.!
In Part 2 of this article, I am going to give you some tips and tricks on DIY Social Media.
Watch out for my next one!
