I need some help identifying the book where these came from. The illustrations are pretty sweet! EDIT: it's "The Martial Arts of Medieval Europe by Ryuta Osada" 中世ヨーロッパの武術 (by 長田 龍太) https://www.amazon.co.jp/-/en/%E9%95%B7%E7%94%B0-%E9%BE%8D%E5%A4%AA/e/B08JVK5R9W/ref=dp_byline_cont_book_1

hi mutual out of cscott cjimmy cfwhip and csausage what do you think your odds are at beating any of them in a fight, one on one, no weapons. you can define your rules however you want otherwise ie what specific versions youre fighting and if they have any powers. i am throwing you in the ring <3 --made-nondescript
oh dear.....is now a good time to bring up that my hobbies include wilderness survival, armizare (old martial arts/swordsmanship), and being a street medic at protests and actions? also my wife and i flirted by sparring because we were too stupid to figure out how to use our words to exchange numbers? i might not win every fight i get in, but i know how to take a hit :)
if we're going vanilla (life series, hardcore, ect) Jimmy, fWhip, and Scott are going down. Now, I will absolutely be bloodied by Scott because he's tenacious, and fWhip will probably break my collarbone and might give me rabies, but I would come out on top. Sausage kicks my ass, no shot. I will feel bad for killing Jimmy, but let's be honest, I wouldn't even have to try.
Empires 1, I beat fWhip if he's unarmed and even if not, I have enough experiences with being flashbanged I think I got this. Jimmy is too slippery and angry, could go either way. Sausage I think is too much of a petty bitch (/aff) and will end up cheating and using a weapon no matter what the rules are so I lose that. Scott is Elsa, I'm screwed lmao.
And Empires 2 we are back to vanilla, except fWhip is absolutely transmitting a disease.

Let’s talk sword form! This is Posta Finestra, or guard of the window. This guard is a great defensive high guard, and you can also move through it to break a bind if your opponent’s sword is caught on the middle section of yours. Posta Finestra is also great at launching an aggressive sweeping strike to either parry an attack or quickly shift into a middle guard for an attack. (Please excuse my sloppy posture, I’m wearing heals)

“ Hi there guys, gals, and non-binary pals! HAPPY NATIONAL COMING OUT DAY
6 years ago today, I made one of the hardest decisions of my life by sharing my authentic self with the world and came out as gay. In what has now been a full circle moment, I am proud to announce a special pre-order dropping today of the new Bigotry Free Jiu Jitsu rashguards
There have been far too many intolerant martial artists doubling down on expressing sentiments that are against human rights, and we simply we not stand by and allow those within the martial arts community to exclude, diminish, or disrespect the validity of anyone’s right to be treated equally
This collaborative effort could not have been possible without the support, allyship & love of my friends at @suckerfreejiujitsu , the original artwork render of the logo done by @roobeeo , artistic talents of my boyfriend @n.p.art.gallery in reworking this design to incorporate the new, all inclusive Pride flag, and our manufacturer Usman, who was able to quickly put together this beautiful rashguard which features the colors of the Trans flag
All profits from this project will be donated 50/50 to The Black Trans Advocacy Coalition & to The Center for Black Equity. “
You can find them here via suckerfreejiujitsu with other great designs as well.
Found here via  QT HEMA
From there description:
“Welcome to QTH, the first and only group for queer and trans people in HEMA! This is a safe space for discussion, support, advice, etc. We are currently a closed group for privacy reasons only, membership is open to everyone. There are no formal rules at this time, but if you are an asshole I will ban you. Sometime soon (a week or so) formal rules will be established. For now, just be nice.
---------------------------------------------------------------
If you are not queer OR trans: Welcome! Because this is a space for a marginalized group, here are some guidelines for participating in our space. This space is open to everyone, but please understand that it is primarily a space for queer and trans people. This means that no one here is obligated to educate you, or explain things to you. It also means that if you say something hurtful or talk over queer and trans voices, you will be asked to rephrase your comments or take a step back. At some point, someone will say something along the lines of "straight people do this and it's bad" or "cis people do this and it's bad". Resist the urge to defend yourself personally! If you are here, it is very likely that they don't mean you. “
While there’s other queer-friendly HEMA groups this is the only one meant primarily for LGBTQ folks.
Do not forget to check out the QT HEMA fb page or their great patches.
Jiu-jitsu as such isn’t really HEMA but is a related grappling art to those found in HEMA, HAMA, HCMA, HPMA etc.
So folks wanted to study historical grappling arts may still find it useful and it’s always cool to help stand against bigotry.
Ringen discussiongroup! is a good place to check out if you’re interested in historical wrestling variants, as are  HEMA Grapplers  and Scholars of Fiore dei Liberi.
The first group focuses on ringen, the second is about more general historical wrestling types, the third on armizare, the wrestling portion of which is called abrazare.
If you’re interested in learning about historical forms of boxing or as it was often called pugilism check out  HEMA pugilists
If you are interested in more modern forms of unarmed combat do check out  Southpaw's Mixed Mutual Arts Club
Remember to check out  A Guide to Starting a Liberation Martial Arts Gym
Consider getting some patches of this sort to show support for good causes.
And stay safe

Tristan Martel, the Black Knight, is infamous for his use of pommel strikes. Here he displays an effective use of Fiore’s Second Scholar of the Fourth Remedy Master.
I have no idea why Tristan isn’t wearing a helmet, but he definitely ripped the other guy’s helmet off somewhere out of the frame.

I know no one ever reads blogs anymore, but I publish some stuff on ancient historical fencing every once in a while. It's all in Spanish, which might be useful as I don't see a lot of resources for this topic in my native language.

2018 HEMA Fail, part 1/2.  Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
Last year at MidWinter Armizare in Chicago, I competed in their single-handed steel event with a messer.  Here against a sidesword fencer, I attempt to bind against his sword and grapple.  I -- somehow --- matrix dodge when I don’t feel the bind, but get hit anyway.

Akademia Szermierzy, a Polish HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts) academy in Warsaw, produced this short film presenting a dramatization of one of Fiore dei Liberi’s five duels against rival fencing masters.
More information on this film can be found in this interview with the International Armizare Society.

Not talking about historical grappling primarily but of arts that have overlap with it, and of techniques similar to some historical ones.

Speculating about future HEMA
I’ve just been thinking about possible directions HEMA might go in in the coming years for the fun of it. Here are some thoughts I’ve had.
While there are differences in interpretation, the literature and study on the most popular systems of fencing (including “German” and “Italian” longsword) is large enough so that even if two people don’t agree on an interpretation, they can communicate with each other clearly on a given technique.
Barring significant research discoveries, it is likely that the current corpus of works for these disciplines won’t change much in the next decade or more. Obviously it’s still possible (crossing my fingers on that Vadi in the Vatican, or the other copies of the Flower of Battle), though unlikely. This means the majority of new work will be interpretive in nature, though most of that work is done. All new interpretation is going to be (mostly) slight tweaks to existing ways of doing things. I think we are going to see what I would call “Modern HEMA Styles.” Let’s say for example that the two most prominent researchers of Armizare have the last names Johnston and Kingston (because I am terribly bad at creating interesting examples). They’ve been researching for nearly 3 decades, have their own established schools, but have slightly different interpretations and different philosophies towards training. Perhaps Johnston does most of their work sparring with feders whereas Kingston uses primarily blunts and allows their advanced students to do slow play with sharps. They end up codifying their syllabuses and teaching styles and create “Johnston Style Armizare” and “Kingston Style Armizare.” This would then begin modern lineages of martial arts reconstructed from the sources.
This has actually already happened with the International Armizare Society, so if more HEMA “styles” develop, you will probably see “IAS Armizare” compared to other modern methods.
I have seen a lot of people resist movements like these, but I don’t think it’s necessarily a bad thing. Going on from this thought, here’s a list of things I imagine potentially happening in HEMA’s future:
Those methods of using weapons which can be described as a “tradition” (owing to multiple sources from people who were connected in some way and training the same art) will probably be the first to be codified, as we see in the IAS.
Styles of fencing which are less popular or less robust may focus less on a tradition and instead on a weapon (an international smallsword fencing federation, for instance) or in cases where it seems reasonable, systems may be codified based on perceived national origin (Italian vs. Spanish rapier federations).
Less popular weapons depending on how scattered their following is or how serious their study is (messer, backsword, etc) may find themselves being included in the curriculum of other styles (spear being taught as part of the IAS system, for instance) or they may find enough success to make their own organization.
If these styles decide to compete, they will probably create their own systems and rulesets that they use to grade or train their students.
More abstract federations will probably still exist, like the Alliance, to facilitate the different codified systems fighting all meeting in one place for HEMA weekends and tournament fighting that will still bring different weapons (and modern styles) together under agreed-upon rulesets.
So, in conclusion:
We already have fencing federations, tournament leagues, and the first modern styles emerging. If this trend continues (which seems likely), especially as HEMA gets more popular around the world and will, by its nature, finding itself have to fit in amongst the established professional martial arts community, this is what I see happening: Modern Styles will be founded to codify teachings of discrete weapons systems. The nature of these systems will either be tradition-based, weapon-based, or culture-based. The styles with the most resources may take some of the responsibility of helping new clubs get founded away from the existing federations and instead provide new HEMA-ist’s the resources they need to found a style-specific club.
Tournament Leagues (besides those that already exist) will form most likely from those most prominent among the established modern styles. We will see larger and wider adoption of tournament rulesets and probably less experimentation as time goes on (not necessarily a bad thing)
Fencing Federations will continue to exist and will probably do most of their work around national or continental borders. The main purpose of these federations will be to facilitate and promote events for multiple leagues and styles to compete
In some parts of the HEMAverse this is basically already how it’s done. But I think the major difference here is the discrete creation of modern lineages, and we will probably see more standardization and a bit more bureaucracy. I see HEMA moving much more towards how some well-established martial arts organizations operate internationally, far from those nostalgic origins of beating each other with sticks in the backyard :) Although those groups I am sure will continue to exist.
This is of course, complete speculation and I don’t really care one way or the other. Just remarking on what I’m seeing. Either way I enjoy the ride.
What do you think?
