I love being filled with joy and love for the world and my friends 💖 shits tough at times but I have some choice folks I spend my time with ^~^ I recently was transcribing poems from my notes app into the poetry book my partner made, and it's interesting seeing how many poems I have which are inspired by the moon and by the friend who has helped me appreciate the night sky 🌌 and my lovely others in meatspace, the folk who help me and who I'm able to help directly, sharing cider and food and joy together 💖 and of course my darling friends online, the folk who despite my self doubt are excited to see me, the ones who I'm glad to see online n chat about inanities just for the joy of talking 🥰 life's had its roughnesses but the love I feel for people powers me thru all challenges 💖

please don't tag
hi, i was attacked with a weapon a few days ago and nearly lost my eye, without going into detail it was domestic violence and will probably be charged under aggravated assault with a weapon with intent to cause harm among other things since she attacked other people (without a weapon), screamed death threats, destroyed some of my stuff, and put my bird's life in danger.
i don't know if i'm going to press charges, i fucking hate talking to cops but i don't like my life being threatened a whole lot more. the cops got called by someone else so it's on record either way. if she had the chance i'd be dead, i have a black eye and several open cuts on my eyelid/nose/brow, there's gonna be scarring and the knowledge that i purely got lucky with regards to the type of weapon she grabbed is kind of weighing on me.
can i please get some money to go visit my sister for like a week, the person in question is in voluntary inpatient right now but i don't feel safe due to her having equally violent friends down the road from us and she's gonna have to come back to collect her things at some point anyway.
it's gonna be several hundred bucks (aud) since the cheapest option is to book a round flight (i live 10ish hours away in the middle of nowhere so gas would be more expensive) and i need money for food etc during that visit too. i just need to fucking get out of here for a bit, my mother is defending this person and her actions so i don't feel very safe.
if it means anything i'm a homeless trans person of colour in the middle of the outback so i'm not particularly safe here even outside of the current happenings.
pāypāl.me/hoodypet please specify it's for irawhiti, i'm using a friend's paypal. thanks, arohanui

HOLAAA BBYS. I swear, I feel so bad somewhat 'abandoning' this blog. I very much still love Peakys, very much still love all the characters, very much still love all of y'all and the amazing work you create. I've just been in a slump fanfic-wise where I'm not hyperfixated on any specific fandom or character or person so I'm feeling like idk what the fuck i should read, what the heck I am w/o a hyperfixation and just feeling kinda lost. I've also been busy since Term 1 or as y'all may say 'semester one' of the year just ended here and I spent it being really busy with some amazing community groups in my local area, sharing space with other women whilst learning and creating and having really deep & important conversations. It's the start of the two week 'school holidays' so I've got all this time to do nothing but read fanfic and I just can't do it 😭I'm reading through a Frankie Morales fanfic masterlist right now so yes I am still stuck on Pedrito in a way but idk, I feel like it's just autopilot 😭
Ramble aside, I hope you're all keeping safe, healthy and beautiful like always. My inbox and ask box are ALWAYS open for anyone and anything, even if we've never talked before and you just need a friend; please don't hesitate to reach out.
Arohanui, Te amo, I love y'all

Week 3- Expressions Of Love
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
For these explorations, I opted for the color red because it carries significant emotional weight, often associated with love and passion. I aimed to convey the concept of a spiritual connection or reverence for nature.
Within Maori culture, nature holds profound spiritual importance, as reflected in the poem "Arohanui." To symbolize the element of water, I integrated the imagery of a mountain and circle - sun and flowing lines. I used techniques such as repetition, framing, and composition when creating these designs.
I acknowledge the need for improvement in visual hierarchy, as there are instances where it's challenging to discern focal points.
In Exploration 1, I feel as if the lettering doesn't stand out and lacks a clear message or idea.
In Exploration 4, I feel the text could be enlarged or made to be more readable.

Te Reo Māori vocab list part 2
part 1 here
🖤❤️🤍🖤❤️🤍
Arohanui - much love (used to sign off letters/messages)
Hoki whenua mai - the concept of land back “as land was taken then land should be given back”
Kaitiakitanga - the Māori concept of guardianship and protection, for the sky, the sea, and the land
Mana Motuhake - self determination (the concept of mana motuhake is often seen in indigenous rights movements and has a long political history in AO/NZ)
Mānawatia - to honour, acknowledge and welcome, commonly in the phrase “Mānawatia a Matariki” which welcomes the Māori new year
Papatūānuku - the land, the earth mother
Rangatahi - young people / the younger generation
Taonga - something that is treasured (although it’s translated as treasure in English, not usually of economic value rather something treasured like culture or natural resources)
Taiao - the natural environment
Te Ao Māori - the Māori world (encompasses culture, values, language, spirituality etc)
Wairua - soul/spirit, literally meaning two waters, sometimes used in exchange for mental health/wellbeing (eg. spending time in taiao can have a positive effect on your wairua)

For the final day of te wiki o te reo Māori: patupaiarehe! Pale, reclusive supernatural beings who live in the mountains and forests. Here's some art of them from books I've read recently.
Left: Ririō from Te Uruuru Whenua o te Ngātoroirangi, nā Chris Winitana.
Right: Katipō (and Kuratawhiti, and her human love Kāhu!) from Arohanui: Te Utu a Ngāi Parehe.
There's some really cool art of Kuratawhiti especially, but I couldn't find it online. Both these books are just gorgeous though- I fully recommend! I'm not sure about Te Uruuru, but Arohanui is also available in te reo Pākeha. Translated it is called Arohanui: Revenge of the Fey.

I.H. Kawharu “LAND AND IDENTITY IN TAMAKI: A NGATI WHATUA PERSPECTIVE, 2001
‘Land and Identity in Tamaki: A Ngati Whatua Perspective’ explores the timeline of the Ngati Whatua tribe, the tangata whenua of central Tāmaki Makaurau, looking at both post-colonial and pre-colonial Aotearoa. Ngati Whatua.
Their nearest two neighbours who share governance of Tāmaki Paenga Hira Auckland War Memorial Museum are Tainui and Ngati Paoa.‘Tuku Rangatira' refers to the exchange of gifts between chiefs to establish an alliance with those involved. This would involve the sharing of land and the land’s resources that each group would be able to access. By sharing the resources on the Tamaki Isthmus with the Tainui and Ngati Paoa tribes, Ngati Whatua established positive connections with the tribes around him, as well as gaining access to a wider range of land and resources.
Tumblr media
I live north of both the original 3,000-acre gift as well as the additional 8,000-acre block. The land that I live on was purchased by the Crown in 1841 as part of the Mahurangi Block.

John Miller’s photographs, as well as other photographs produced at the time, are a perfect documentation of the changing times. The emotions present in these moments of protest and uniting are captured within the frame.
Tumblr media
When looking at the map, the original coastline has been completely lost underneath the new development of the Auckland CBD. The land that the Māori people once called their own has been lost. When learning about the Bastion Point protests, it is understandable why they did so. The Māori were being pushed out of the city so the land that they lived on could be exploited and profited from.
