As for what our story is about...

It's a continuation of my original Subscorp work that started my foray into this lovely little fandom last year 💙💛💙💛

I had the idea for a follow-up project shortly after posting warmer chore, but it went on the back burner. UNTIL I befriended the magical @michael-young-history who suggested we collaborate on something and I told her my ideas. (Ideas that will remain a secret until we're ready to post this story! 😙)

The sight made him freeze: seated on the other side of the clearing they'd claimed for the festivities, Lì-Yán sat in her Bába's lap. Both of their attention was completely riveted on the bowl in front of them, one laden with a small mountain of scoops of vanilla ice cream. Lì-Yán's face was a smeared mess of white, but that expression of bliss? It was a perfect twin to Kuai Liang's typically sedate features, now just as eager and pleased, so much so that their resemblance was sharper than ever before.

Hanzo had no idea when Kuai Liang had quietly inserted himself into the celebration, but this sight was almost more than he could bear. Of his strong, brave, perfect husband, overcoming his own darkness to spend time with their daughter on a day that had brought them so much pain, yet gifted them so much joy to follow. His precious daughter, vibrant and happy, his and Kuai Liang's love made manifest.

Two Parent Home Part 3

Kuai Liang tries his best.

 “My daughter informed me of the incident yesterday.”

Hydro kept his head down as his cheeks burned. “It… I'm still adjusting to…”

“Being human,” Kuai Liang said. “Being… an Omega, later in life. Yes. I understand.”

His statements offered no pity, but his voice and soothing paternal pheromones were nice, especially since Hydro still had a headache from yesterday.

They were in a large hot spring, hidden in a valley of springs beyond the villages. Hydro felt weird about being so disrobed in an open setting. Which was strange in and of itself. In the Lin Kuei, he was practically naked in between missions. “Master Kuai Liang, I have a question.”

A deep, rumbling drone came from the former grandmaster. Hydro looked over to see him totally relaxed, almost completely submerged in the water. Which raised more questions, but Master Kuai Liang didn't tolerate back to back questions.

“Smelling other people's pheromones… will it always hurt me?”

He opened his eyes for that and stared straight at Hydro, which made the younger cryomancer look away nervously. “I know that this is a difficult period of adjustment. But you will not always be so affected by the pheromones of others.”

He closed his eyes again. He said it like it was simple. Like it was totally normal to get a sinus infection just because somebody got mad and their pheromones were overwhelming. “Do pheromones still hurt you?”

Hesitation. “I am not a measuring stick, Hydro.”

“Then why am I even talking to you?” Hydro snapped.

He realized his error as a damp wave of disappointment flooded him. His sinuses became irritated and the pounding in his head became intolerable. “Fuuuuuuck.”

“Language.”

“Fuck you!” Hydro screamed. His outburst sent spikes of nails into his brain. He gasped for breath, curling into himself. “Fuck you. Fuck th-this!”

“Mitsunari–”

“I hate you! I hate this! Stop acting like you know anything about me!”

“Mitsunari.” A cool hand caressed his hair. That one touch, that simple gesture of fingers in his hair made everything stop. The headache, the pain, the fear, everything. “You are correct. I do not know anything about you, beyond the fact that you are presenting. I am not here to scrutinize. I am here as a resource.”

A low purr rolled in Hydro’s chest but it felt so good, he didn't fight it. They were Lin Kuei. This touching and fraternizing was a punishable offense. How did Kuai Liang know to do this? The Lin Kuei had become soft. Probably because of Kuai Liang. Only Alphas were allowed in the Lin Kuei. Hydro himself has seen Betas executed for failing to present as Alphas – he was reminded by the elders that he only had a couple more years to present as an Alpha. They must have made an exception for Tundra. Of course. He was from the Sub-Zero bloodline. Exceptions were made for them.

He must have had a real cushy time. He was a Sub-Zero, an Omega who could pass as an Alpha, his ice developed, he could give birth to more cryomancers. He was probably royalty there. Talk about hitting the genetic lottery.

The more Hydro thought about it, the angrier he became. He shoved Tundra away and climbed out of the spring before storming away.

Good Dad Bing Yun is my favorite Bing Yun. Although emotional wreck psychopath Bing Yun is also my favorite. Good Husband Bing Yun is my favorite too. Casually Psychotic Naive Cheerful Child Bing-Yun is my favorite as well!

“You don’t have to get up, Bi-Han, but I want to make sure you’re not feeling bad. Do you need some water? Juice?”

Why was she being so nice? Did she need information from him? Information about… their father? Bi-Han hated what he did to them but this would be more disloyalty to the Lin Kuei… and that would be bad if he had to go back. And horrible if… if Kuai had to…

Lady Harumi touched his face. She was so nice. Bi-Han hated that he had to be so mean to her. But… What if she wasn’t nice and this was a trick?

“Bi-Han, are you okay?” She asked, her brow furrowed in worry.

He felt something rising and swallowed hard to make it go away. The pressure was too much and his face was hot and he was trying to talk but when he opened his mouth, his vision got blurry and his nose and… and…

He began to cry.

Takeda laughed. "There's no changing the subject on this one. You know that we all know, right?"

"Know?" Hanzo asked.

"Why Sub-Zero's here. Why all of a sudden you're secluding yourself and saying 'please' and telling us to be respectful," Takeda gave him a very Takeda Takahashi grin. "Our Papa-san is in love."

Shimizu Mitsunari, Code Name HYDRO

Before he was stolen recruited by the Lin Kuei, Mitsunari was a delinquent who travelled across Japan. He dismissively claims to not remember his life before the Lin Kuei, though he dearly misses his mother.

A result of the Lin Kuei’s breeding program, his father slaughtered his family. He managed to escape his father before being dragged to Arctika. He travelled to stay ahead of his father but was eventually captured as a teenager.

His cryomancy never matured - which is still a mystery, even decades after his death. It was theorized that because he wasn’t around other cryomancers in his formative years. Though Hydro proved himself to be strong, crafty, and deadly, he was plainly told that he’d never rise above the lower class warriors.

He is the first to have the code name Hydro, given to mock him, but one he fully embraced. While on the run, he learned to charm people, which he put to use to stay ahead of the older Lin Kuei. He genuinely adores Bi-Han and Sektor. In “canon”, he died before Cyrax, Smoke, and Kuai Liang were really around but in my happy AUs, he views the whole gang as his little brothers. He has a fondness for kids and animals.

Hydro has a “casual” smoking habit he picked up before coming to Arctika. No one, not even Bing Yun, can figure out where he gets the cigarettes. He gets extremely testy when he can’t get them.

When he goes out on missions, he uses both katanas, but otherwise, he only keeps one on him. He loves drawing and like all the Lin Kuei boys, struggles with disordered eating habits.
