I was working on this piece last night while watching #kitchentableartproject with @art2life_world. It's a brilliant Wednesday night live stream of different artists talking about their work while everyone works on their own artwork, hosted by Nicolas Wilton. I'm always trying to get the balance right between abstract elements and telling a story with more figurative images, which was actually the theme of last night's show. On the easel now. I always start my paintings with layers of abstraction, but at the moment I'm really working to try and push these abstracted layers as far as I can before I start to pull figures out of them. I've lots of paintings on the go at the moment in their early stages. So as you've probably seen from my progress pictures before, my work starts off as an abstract painting. Yesterday this painting turned into a face and then into this mysterious figure. Then a painting I have of an avery by Ramzi Gothbaldin that I bought years ago in Paris inspired me to add the bird cage. There is a simpleness to it that I really like and want to experiment with in more paintings. Let me know what you think!
