The Queen of all Colors

In my debut series, I explore the idea that beauty transcends skin tone boundaries, celebrating the inherent beauty of every individual, whether they are black, brown, light-skinned, and so on. These subjects are connected by a shared thread of identity and ancestry, rooted in our collective history and shaping our understanding of who we are.

Capturing Intimate Moments

In my work, I aim to portray subjects in an intimate setting or manner, rather than depicting them with smiles or expressions typically associated with socialising and interaction. I focus on capturing them in their private moments, where the façade of a grin or smile is absent.

The lack of outward expressions in these portraits draws the viewer in, inviting them to contemplate the subjects' thoughts, experiences, and identities. By gazing into their eyes, the viewer delves deeper into the subjects' inner worlds.

My intention is for these portraits to offer a reflective experience, enabling the viewer to establish a deeper connection with the subject. Although the portraits don't usually represent specific individuals, the features I emphasise often resemble people I know or those with whom others can relate. In doing so, my work fosters a shared sense of connection and understanding, transcending the boundaries between the subjects and the audience.

Symbolism Green eyes

Green eyes have been symbolically linked to various ideas and emotions across different cultures. In some contexts, green is associated with growth, renewal, and fertility, which could lead to the belief that green-eyed individuals are more in tune with nature or possess a nurturing spirit. Additionally, green is sometimes linked to balance, harmony, and stability, suggesting that those with green eyes may be perceived as well-rounded or grounded individuals.

Symbolism Flowers

In my paintings, I weave elements of nature—such as foliage, flowers, or branches with leaves—into the depiction of young Black women. By highlighting these exquisite symbols, I aim to challenge and redefine preconceived notions surrounding the beauty. The natural elements accentuate a sense of peace, harmony, and allure, prompting viewers to reconsider their biases and recognize the inherent beauty in these women.

By harmoniously blending nature and the portrayal of young Black women, my artwork fosters a fresh perspective that transcends traditional beauty standards, cultivating a more inclusive and diverse appreciation of aesthetics.
