Some progress on my blocks. I added a couple of dull values to my color choices to give some contrast with the brights. That neon yellow is really eye popping but I like the spark it provides. “Homage to Matisse” is my newest wall quilt on display at the Ann Arbor Art Fair this weekend. It’s a little different from some of my other work—focusing on large shapes and color. It’s about 40”h x 30”w. The colors and shapes reminded me of the Matisse cut-outs that I visit every time I’m at the National Gallery of Art. I’m in Booth 808 on N. Here’s the beginning of a new composition from my playing with scraps yesterday. Each block is about 4” square. I started with a specific color idea for each and made sure to add in some contrast for a pop. I’ll add some other elements and it probably will end up as a class sample for my Focus on the Improv Block class. Two new pieces at the Fiberworks Studio at the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria, VA. This month’s theme was “Found,” so I used scraps left over from other projects to create this new work.
