It's the time of the year again! The 2nd edition of Art Basel Hong Kong has launched at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre in Wanchai. The fair will be opened until this Sunday (May 18th). This year, in collaboration with the Hong Kong Arts Centre, Art Basel is introducing a new Film sector, with screenings that will be launched at the agnès b. CINEMA. It will be an innovative 3-day program curated by Li Zhenhua.
Some interesting works at the Encounters sector (From images 2-4):
Image 2: A highlight of the sector is Gu Wenda's United Nations installation, which consists of numerous flags from different countries hanging from the ceiling. The artist's usage of material (human hair) for his work is a recognition of his bold experimental perceptions in art.
Image 3: Miyanaga Aiko presents Letter (Hong Kong), featuring a mixture of transparent suitcases and parcels, each filled with different contents and labelled to various locations.
Image 4: Ping Pong Go-Round, is a unique circular ping pong table designed by Lee Wen. Along with the installation is a video of participants in the public enjoying the game. Visitors at the fair can also enjoy a game at the table.
Image 5: An installation entitled: Rem(a)inders, presented by Michelangelo Psitoletto, at the Galleria Continua booth.

Pearl Lam Galleries (Hong Kong) presents the first solo exhibition in Hong Kong by British-Nigerian artist: Yinka Shonibare MBE (RA). Titled Dreaming Rich, the exhibition illustrates cultural norms and social issues occurring in society, with many works referring to modern Hong Kong.
One of the highlights is Cakeman, a sculpture that is carrying a burden of towering luxurious cakes on his back. The figure draws a connection to the fact that all nations have a common goal of increasing their wealth. This excessive amount of greed for demanding wealth leads to adversities for the working class.

Galerie Perrotin Hong Kong is featuring the solo show 'Mobiles' by a French artist, Xavier Veilhan, until 6 July. This is his first exhibition to show mobiles exclusively.
"The balance of each set is not the only element of the work that seems unnatural, but also the way in which each component is like a graphic pattern converting itself into a three-dimensional shape, integrated into reality, despite the laws of physics." - Xavier Veilhan
