one of the most horrific ways i can think of to die is to be rocked along the seabed, in the dark and freezing cold with no room to stand up, the stench of your ziploc bag-and-plastic water bottle toilet wafting through what very little (if any) air you have left while you SLOWLY and AGONIZINGLY suffocate to a repeat of celine dion (because apparently that was on the music track for the voyage). and there's no food or drinking water. and this goes on for days, knowing that you're probably doomed to die there with the ceo of the company who built the machine that delivered you to death. the ceo who knew that this would happen the entire time and did nothing to prevent it. it makes me nauseous to think of it happening to another person

BUT that's not to imply they didn't deserve every minute of suffering. those feelings can coexist. you spend a quarter million to go and marvel at a mass grave of the poor who were sentenced to almost the same horrible death for simple fact they were third class. the same people of economic standing who you were killing and polluting the lives/homes of a week ago. and you decide to do this in a submersible made of camping parts, controlled by a $30 off-brand amazon controller, with no emergency beacon because you ALSO once thought your ship was unsinkable so you refused any safety measure for the sake of pleasing your rich passengers. you have the gall to name it the titan

so yeah people are joking about it because it is a jumbo joke. the empathy part of my brain can only hope that it imploded or in the worst case scenario g*d will deliver them the quickest possible hypothermia and/or suffocation. there's a reason so many personifications of the oceanic abyss and her wrath exist and they aren't forgiving especially not to the assholes who dump oil into her. they looked into the eyes of rán, davy jones, leviathan, and forked over 250k because when you're rich bad things don't happen to you

unless you pay for it. and you'll certainly be paying down at the bottom
