18.8.17 & 30.12.17 hey hey hey! i’m pretty happy with this.
~ process and thought process below ~
To make this, I took a scanned sketch I made (it’s been posted here with some other ones) and used the Extracting Lines tool, not modifying anything in the pop-up window. To make the lines brown, I double-clicked its layer and modified the color to a saturated dark brown (reminder that I use FireAlpaca). I thought it would cooperate nicely with the other warm colors.
I made a new layer underneath it, where i loosely put in Yosuke’s colors (= the background was separate). Concerning shading, I tried to imitate my favorite P4 art and did cel shading, with a few more details. I don’t know why I felt such a need to use fancy techniques for shading (like in my Chie doodle), even though up until now I’ve always liked the look of cel shading. I merged the sketch and color layers, then duplicated the resulting layer.
That’s when I started blending the top layer, adding in colors or thickening the sketch lines, using blending brushes and color picking all the while. I covered the base lines from the sketch by using brushes that don’t blend. I didn’t touch the layer underneath that much anymore, since it’s just there to strengthen any weak sketch lines.
In FireAlpaca, the only way to blend with a brush is to be working on the layer of which the colors you want to blend. It would seem that this is not the case for Photoshop or Sai, but I’m not entirely sure.
While blending, I also drew thin, slightly darker lines (with a bit more saturation of course) over the borders of the shadows, trying to do something like this P5 box art (Don’t see it? Look at Anne and Makoto’s faces). While said box art does not use this in that great a quantity, I personally feel like it gives off a nice sort of watercolor look.
On the sketch lines,  I also darkened and rounded some corners into others (like under his chin).
Version without exclamation mark. It’s kind of covering some details i liked.
