Experimentation with ASCII art
editor.p5js.orgAvailable from: https://editor.p5js.org/codingtrain/sketches/KTVfEcpWx (n.d.). p5.js Web Editor.
I found some preexisting written code with converted a live video input into ascii art on the p5.js website.I began playing around with my hand to see which kind of formations I could create and began to think about whether or not the ascii symbols could be replaced by shapes such as square to create forms of generative grids which could be manipulated by a users hand/movements on a webcam.
When I first did Tim Rodenbrokers course on ASCII, I learnt that the characters were not restricted to being just letters/numbers.
The basics of an ASCII sketch is just a grid, or a value of tiles divided by the width/height. I thought that it would be possible to replace these characters with images and shapes to see what kind of formations I could create.
I combined the p5.js code with some already existing code i had from the course and mapped the input to be my webcam instead of an image. I did this inside of processing.
Here are some of the examples I generated.
I find it interesting to use this as a form of a generative grid which can be controlled by a users movement. This allows users to create forms which could potentially be used for layouts in their designs.

I had an additional thought on this but didn't want to reblog my response to Jake's reply. When I was growing up, I couldn't find a group. And this can be a problem for a number of folks, both players and GMs. Now I don't know about other platforms, but the Digital Tabletop site Roll20 has a method by which players can find other groups willing to accept strangers, and GMs can find groups.
This isn't a "for hire" system in that the GMs are paid, but you do end up with entire groups of strangers who end up playing together because they wanted another game. (I mean, we don't all have friends and acquaintances who are into our hobbies and know of a group that has a possible opening.)
Now I've not used this myself. My groups have evolved out of people I am friends with, both on and outside of the virtual realm. Back in the late 90s through the Aughts my group was entirely tabletop... and then after that group fell apart (two of the players divorced) I stopped gaming for a while and when I restarted, one of my virtual friends was asking me to run a game for him and his friend, and it grew from there. My other virtual group grew out of my late spouse's friends who lived states away, a couple new friends living a couple miles away, and one of my virtual friends from the first virtual group (and we ended up using Roll20 after several sessions where I tried using tabletop and webcams... and even tried a combined virtual/tabletop version before just switching entirely to virtual).
And honestly? Remembering back to the early 90s? Back when the Internet was mostly e-mail servers due to baud rates that were in the low thousands of bytes, compared to the megabytes of data now regularly sent (meaning graphics were ASCII art at best), there were play-by-email gaming groups. They didn't work so well, it was dependent on the players to keep it alive, but this still existed. We would have strangers who met on a server just join up and run a game together. Because you don't need to have an actual tabletop experience to do an adventure. Sometimes you just need a group of people who enjoy the hobby and want a game... and play no matter what the constraints.
tl;dr - virtual TTRPG groups have existed since the Internet started spreading in the 90s, with strangers playing together using e-mail. Gamers are social in nature and when we can't find local gaming groups for whatever reasons, we find other ways. "Hiring" a GM is no different than a group of strangers getting together online to play a TTRPG with each other.
There's this way of talking about tabletop games that just seems to imagine DMs as someone who isn't playing a game with their friends who they know and like and I don't get it. Are people hiring DMs in enough numbers that this is normal?
Or is the community just so brainrotted the fundamental relationship between players and dms has to be what, aersolised

Creativity and New Media Art
Creativity. A word.
After binge watching videos from this TEDx playlist, https://www.ted.com/playlists/3/the_artist_is_in. I got filled with fascination as to how Art keeps several artists passionate and creative. They speak with such passion about what they have created. They have that zest for life. I wanna be like that. I wanna be like them.
I had a deeper understanding of creativity, a concept that's inseperable from Art. I used to think that creativity is a skill of artists to, well, create. But creativity is also being resourceful; to make the most of any medium or material, no matter how unorthodox it is.
Like what Alexa Meade had stated in her talk:
You can find the strange in the familiar. As long as you're willing to look beyond what's already been brought to light, that you can see what's below the surface, hiding in the shadows. And recognize that there can be more there than meets the eye.
It is aligned with Vik Muniz's message in his talk, albeit implicit. He creates art from mundane objects and edible materials such as wire, string, sugar and chocolate. Janet Echelman creates building-sized sculptures out of material that is inspired from a fishnet. Their involvement with art are proof that there is no excuse to not create art. Any raw material can be turned into art, as long as you're creative and imaginative, hence Echelman's message:
Take imagination seriously.
To an artist, anything could be art, as long as their eyes perceive from the lens of creativity. Artists are visionaries. They see something that normal people don't see, it is through art they make others share this vision.
New Media Art
Reading the materials about digital art has made me realize that New Media Art is just as hard to define as Art itself. It traces its roots into computer technology, but unlike other types of art, New Media Art is still a fledgling field. Educational institutions take iniatives to integrate new media art into their curriculums. Nevertheless, most of its bounds remain to be an unexplored land.
Honestly, I still am confused as to what New Media Art entails. The most definitive meaning I could ascribe to New Media Art is that it is art meeting science and technology. Some examples are: ASCII art, generative art, coded artworks, AI art, and other arts involving the computer. However, I am not certain if these examples should be categorized under the umbrella term: Computational Art instead of New Media Art.
I sought for additional resources in order to understand New Media Art better.
According to MasterClass staff (2022), these are the characteristics of New Media Art.
Furthermore, I downloaded this resource from Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA) which defines New Media and New Media Art as:
NEW MEDIA refers to a range of materials and technologies developed relatively recently and utilised in the creation, presentation and disemmination of NEW MEDIA ART. These new media are drawn from a range of sources both within the arts and the wider field of communications, entertainment and information technologies.
Informed by the rapid pace of technological development, New Media Art is a constantly changing category encompassing FILM, VIDEO, PHOTOGRAPHY, LENS-BASED MEDIA, DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY, HYPERTEXT, CYBERSPACE, AUDIO TECHNOLOGY, CD-ROMS, WEBCAMS, SURVEILLANCE TECHNOLOGY, WIRELESS TELEPHONES, COMPUTER AND VIDEO GAMES, GPS SYSTEMS and BIOTECHNOLOGY.
Despite my effort to dig knowledge about New Media Art, there are still questions in my head that I ponder, such as:
Is New Media Art exclusive to Digital Art? Do all new media artworks have to be digital or virtual?
Are digital artworks created in a creative software considered as new media art? Like, for example, a digital painting?
If, for example, I did a tangible artwork but the process involved a technology (i.e., 3D modelling, 3D printing), is my artwork considered new media art?
I guess, since we're about to embark in the experience age anyway, the best way to know new media art is to experience it. I want to see actual new media art installations and artworks to have a better grasp of what they really are. 'Cause I know there's so much more to in it than what is describe by the texts.
I don't want to just read about New Media Art. I want to witness it. I want to feel it. I want to be immersed in it and be enveloped with sheer amazement. I want to get lost in it.
Only then I will truly know what it is.

Im trying to use OpenCV via Python to find multiple objects in a train image and match. So, I had a question 'can I have a face id for my Arduino project' and the answer is yes. For example, Azure, Bluemix or your main computer. Face Recognition and Identification Arduino Face ID Using OpenCV Python and Arduino.: Facial recognition AKA face ID is one of the most important feature on mobile phones nowadays. but, you can use Arduino/Raspberry Pi to capture information and send it to a server for analysis. Both devices (webcam and Arduino are connected to the same computer via. The pushbutton is on a breadboard and is connected to pin 10 on said Arduino device. The Arduino Uno is connected to the same Windows PC that the webcam is connected to. A window can be closed by pressing ESC key (represented as ASCII code 27). As some people said before, you just can't run OpenCV on Arduino. OpenCV is running in the Anaconda Spyder IDE within the same Windows PC that is connected to the webcam. RTSP URL usually consists of username, password, IP address of the camera, port number (554 is default RTSP port number), stream name.Ĭaptured frames displayed in the window using imshow function. Simply place the phone in our mobile holder and sit in. The Application will automatically connect to the HC-05 (must be named HC-05) Bluetooth module and will wait for a face to be detected.

Simply power your Arduino and open the android application. Many manufacturers provide RTSP URL on their website or user manual. Once we are ready with our hardware, code and Android Application its time for some action. Since RTSP URL is not standardized, different IP camera manufacturers might use different RTSP URLs. To capture RTSP stream from IP camera we need to specify RTSP URL as argument. OpenCV provides VideoCapture class which allows to capture video from video files, image sequences, webcams, IP cameras, etc.

Associate default The Mathworks The MathWorks MATLAB program for *.m (MATLAB Source Code File) files. You must have supported software programs installed for MATLAB Source Code File on your system such as The MathWorks MATLAB.If you could reverse the operation, there would be no point in converting to a P-file. As the description on the pcode doc page ('Create protected function file') states, the purpose of creating a P-coded file is to obfuscate the code to protect the source code. M=163 files on Windows and MacOs, we have solution to those issues such as: Can't Open M Files? The conversion from MATLAB file to P-coded file is a one-way conversion. abs metaexample: An example ASCII ABS metadata file used to process ABS data. Matlab M-Files M-files for ABS data processing (see Data Processing page). m-files for constrained optimization, nonlinear least squares, linear systems.P-file functionality is as same as of m-file but no one can check what’s inside p-file. MATLAB has a function in which you convert your m-file into p-file and no one can open that p file code. This is a pre-parsed pseudocode file (P-file), which is a pre-compiled form of the Matlab function signal1.m. The Applause software application is also known to use the.p file suffix. freeload how to decrypt matlab p code Files at Software Informer. Execute the following in Matlab: > toms 3x1 a b. m-files to calculate the basic attributes of continuous-time signals. Call 'pcode pcodetest' to generate a pcoded file and delete the original m-file. You can either type commands directly into matlab, or put. For example, they might call an external library (this is quite possible if they are for interfacing with a webcam), or they might call another function using eval. p files youre trying to compile may have dependencies that you cant see because theyre p-coded. It is the purpose of M-code to be compatible with. Although MATLAB Compiler should be able to compile. Like me explain it with an example, suppose you are some sort of developer and you have created some code for a company and now you want to protect your code and just send the company some sort of software. In this section you will practice writing. There are slightly different things you need to know for each platform. Decrypt P File Matlab Tutorials Matlab code and and a secure obfuscation are a contradiction by design. P File is like an encrypted file which performs the same functionality as your original m file but no one can get the code out of it. Now the question arises that why we need to do that? & the answer is if you want to protect your code and don’t want anyone to access it then you need to your Convert m File into p File. In today’s tutorial, I am going to show you How to Convert m File into p File in MATLAB. Hello friends, I hope you all are doing great.

Came across Tim Alex Jacobs’s website and found some interesting projects there. For example, a brainfuck tic-tac-toe or an ascii-webcam. But most of all I liked acoustic QR codes, sound, whose spectrogram looks like a readable QR code. Of course, I put my personal QR code into it, which I once made using the old Russ Cox project. The code (picture on the left) is successfully read from the spectrogram after transmission through speakers to a microphone (picture in the middle). Just in case, I checked it with an external spectrometer after mp3 compression (the picture on the right) - it still works.
Also, in an interactive Black Mirror episode, Bandersnatch, released a little over a year ago, the authors hid a similar Easter egg: at the very end, the hero happens to listen a cassette with “electronic noise” in which old-timers can recognize the standard file recording of a picture in ZX Spectrum format. After loading it on Speccy, you can see the QR code leading to the "secret" site with the Nohzdyve game.

Snapshot Filters Or Effects
Note that we are still in the ongoing process of converting obsolete Flash based code to more modern JS and WebGL code. Be sure to check that your browser supports WebGL. For more Customised Webcam Filters you can try our sister site HDBooth.net.
Raining Effect
If you are one of those people that enjoys to look at the rain running down the window pane on a stormy day, then the Raining Webcam Effect is the perfect thing for you. This effect works best when using it as a short captured video clip, so send your friends a rainy day snapshot even in the peak of summer.
Snowing Effect
If you are looking to create a nice christmassy winter snapshot then you can not go far wrong with this Snowing Webcam effect. This effect will add a sprinkle of snowflakes to your webcam display.
Heat Map Effect

The Heat Map effect will give your webcam the illusion of Predator style heat vision.
Ascii Filter Effect
The ascii filter will convert your webcam pixel stream into a mixture of letters and numbers, giving you a very matrix style effect.
RGB Splitter Filter
The RGB splitter filter separates your three colour channels (red, green and blue) and offsets them from each other slightly returning a unique effect.
Fly Vision Filter
As the name suggests, the fly vision filter will allow you to experience the sight of a fly by grid sectioning your webcam display.
Split Screen Filter
This simple filter will split one half of your webcam display and overlay it mirrored on the other half.
Quad Screen Filter
This filter will split your webcam stream into four and mirror it on the vertical and horizontal axis.
Invert Filter
The invert filter inverts each webcam pixel colour into it exact inverted opposite colour, for example: white pixels become black and black pixels become white.
Pixelated Effect
The pixelated filter takes your High Definition webcam stream of many pixels and Squooshes them all onto much fewer pixels. Think the complete opposite of CSI Zoom Enhance.
Blur Filter
The blur filter is great for taking your crisp, crystal clear HD webcam stream and making you think that you really need to buy some glasses or upgrade the pair you already have. This effect is not for everyone, but it is a timeless classic, so it was added anyway.
Camera Online
TV Glitch Effect
Photo Booth Heart Effect
For those of us old enough to remember analogue TV, this effect will basically give your webcam a bad reception, but don't adjust your aerial/antenna... or look for one, that'd be pure madness.
Photo Booth App
Night Vision Filter
Photo Booth Online Effects
Unfortunately this night vision filter will not turn your webcam into an actual night vision camera, however it well do the next best thing and make your webcam display look like a night vision display. That's almost as good, right ? ..... right ?... hello ?
Sepia Filter
The Sepia filter is another classic and classy filter for creating an oldie, antique western style photograph.
Spider Vision
OK!, Fine... No-one really knows how a spider visually perceives the world around them. However, this webcam effect attempts to display how a spider's vision MIGHT be experienced.
Hour Glass
The hour glass effect yields some hilarious results when reshaping your face into the shape of an hourglass.

There are still many more to come, so keep checking back with us :)

HARDWARE
Hardware is categorised into input, output and storage devices.
MAIN
Mother board
Mother board is a printed circuit board (PCB) which connects to the main components of a computer. Motherboard always include main bus that’s used to transfer data between hardware components however, some of the components may be the integral part of the motherboard, i.e. Universal serial bus(USB) ports, network port, integrated graphic cards etc.
Random access memory (RAM)
Random access memory(RAM) is a memory that is used to store currently active programs and data. The more data that is available to the computer, the more data and programs can be used at the same time. RAM is volatile, meaning the content will be lost when the power is off(one of the reason why the content you are working on might be deleted if you haven’t saved it into secondary storage, RAM is the type of memory that can be read and written to.
Read only memory (ROM)
Read only memory (ROM) is the type of memory that can be read but not written to, ROM is non-volatile, meaning the content will be retained even when there is no power (because ROM is powered by a small long-life battery).
MORE ON MEMORY.
Graphic card
Graphic card is also known as a video card, display adapter, or graphics adapter. It generates signals needed to display the output image from the computer, sometimes graphic card is integrated to computer and does not require a separate card. Graphic performance can be improved as a separate processor can be used for graphics.
Sound card
Sound card generates signals needed to output a sound from computer to the speaker or set of speakers. Sound card have single output for audio(green socket), a single input for microphone(red socket) and a single input for line level devices(Blue socket). Separate sound card that connects with separate motherboard expansion is necessary for high quality or surround sound-which enable multiple output for front, rear, centre, and sub-woofer speakers.
Hard disk drive
Hard disk drive (HDD) is the most common form of secondary storage for a computer do to its relatively low cost per Mega Byte(MB). Data stored on hard disk is non volatile.
Solid state drive
Solid state drive (SSD) is another secondary storage drive and it is also non volatile.
EXTERNAL
Cloud
Cloud or storage cloud is a storage space of which the services are hosted over the internet and not in the same physical location as the computer is being used. Data is stored on banks or servers that are accessed remotely. Physical device where data is being stored is owned by the hosting company rather than person or organisation using the data.
Monitor
Monitor is a device which enables the visualisation of computer’s output, monitor connects to the graphic card.
Keyboard
Keyboard is a device that consists of buttons used to input texts or to control part of an interface, some countries have different buttons on keyboards used i.e. China has more buttons due to their alphabets.
Mouse
Mouse is a pointing device used to manipulate computer screen.
Printer
Printer is an output device which produces hard copy (Printout) for computer (usually onto paper), some printer also include scanner (this is what you call MFP or Multi-function peripheral.
Speaker
Speaker is a device which provide sound output and usually connects with the green socket of sound card.
Camera
Camera captures still and moving images(Video) which can be then stored into computer, camera attached to a computer is called webcam.
Scanner
Scanner is an input device which capture a 2D document in the form of an image.
Optical character reader
Optical character reader (OCR) is the recognition of printed or written text characters by a computer. This involves photo-scanning of the text character-by-character, analysis of the scanned-in image, and then translation of the character image into character codes, such as ASCII, commonly used in data processing. In OCR processing, the scanned-in image or bitmap is analysed for light and dark areas in order to identify each alphabetic letter or numeric digit. When a character is recognised, it is converted into an ASCII code. Special circuit boards and computer chips designed expressly for OCR are used to speed up the recognition process.
Magnetic ink character reader
Magnetic ink character reader (MICR) is a technology used to verify the legitimacy or originality of paper documents, especially checks. Special ink, which is sensitive to magnetic fields, is used in the printing of certain characters on the original documents. Information can be encoded in the magnetic characters.
Optical mark reader
Optical mark reader (OMR) is a method of entering data into a computer system. Optical Mark Readers reads pencil or pen marks made in pre-defined positions on paper forms as responses to questions or tick list prompts. The OMR data entry system contains the information to convert the presence or absence of marks into a computer data file.
Barcode reader
Barcode reader also called a price scanner or point-of-sale ( POS ) scanner, is a hand-held or stationary input device used to capture and read information contained in a bar code . A barcode reader consists of a scanner , a decoder (either built-in or external), and a cable used to connect the reader with a computer. Because a barcode reader merely captures and translates the barcode into numbers and/or letters, the data must be sent to a computer so that a software application can make sense of the data.
Pen drive
Pen drive also referred as USB flash drive is a portable device which allows user to transfer data (text, images, videos etc) to and from computer quickly. Users can easily read and write the data on the Pen Drive by plugging it into the USB port on the computer. Pen Drives are quite compact and can fit easily into the pocket; they run without battery and draw power from the USB connection itself. Both Floppy disks and CDs are now being gradually replaced by Pen Drive as a preferred means of data storage. Its because latter offers mass data transfer and storage capability and at a much faster rate.
Portable Hard disk drive
Portable HDD is An external hard drive is a storage device located outside of a computer that is connected through a USB cable or wireless connection. An external hard drive is usually used to store media that a user needs to be portable, for backups, and when the internal drive of the computer is already at its full memory capacity. These devices have a high storage capacity compared to flash drives and are mostly used for backing up numerous computer files or serving as a network drive to store shared content.External hard drives are also known as removable hard drives.
Blu-ray disc drive
Blu-ray disc drive is an optical disc format designed to display high definition video and store large amounts of data.Blu-ray is the successor to DVD. The format's name comes from the fact that a blue laser reads from and writes to the disc rather than the red laser of DVD players. The blue laser has a 405 manometer (nm) wavelength that can focus more tightly than the red lasers used for writable DVD. As a consequence, a Blu-ray disc can store much more data in the same 12 centimetre space.

Memory card
Memory card or flash memory is a storage device mostly used in digital camera.

Hyperallergic: 64 Highlights of the Internet’s Early Years, from the First Webcam to a Net Art Gallery
Image of PizzaNet’s website, launched in 1994 by Santa Cruz Operation and Pizza Hut (all images courtesy Here East)
You may not have heard it in over a decade, but it’s a sound you’ll never forget: the high-pitched, screeching tone of a dial-up modem that was an internet user’s punishment before the reward of connectivity. And you may listen to it again, emitted by an early modem from 1982, as part of 64 bits, an interactive exhibition at Here East in London that showcases 64 artifacts of the internet’s early history, from the first website to early ASCII art to one of the first visuals to go viral. Remember that “Dancing Baby” GIF of a 3D-rendered, animated infant from the 1990s? That’s the one.
John Chadwick’s “Dancing Baby” GIF (1996)
Much of this digital flotsam is no longer accessible in its original form, and if if is, it is not easily viewed, preserved in museums and research centers around the world. 64 bits showcases them all on computers that each date to its content’s respective era, allowing visitors to experience and learn about stories from the web’s formative years that we may have forgotten. It’s curated by Jim Boulton as part of his ongoing project, Digital Archaeology, which seeks to preserve key moments of internet culture and raise awareness of the need to do so, through various exhibitions.
“The first website appeared on the internet in 1991,” Boulton told Hyperallergic. “Archive.org started archiving websites in late 1996. The first five years of the web — its formative years — have not been archived. The exhibition seeks to raise the profile of preserving the early web while there’s still a chance. Time’s running out!”
“Archie,” the first search engine, developed in 1989
On thick, clunky monitors, viewers may browse PizzaNet — the first transactional website, launched in 1994 by Pizza Hut with a software company to enable pizza delivery (the very first: pepperoni and mushroom, with extra cheese); The Blue Dot — one of the first online art galleries that showcased work by artists including Ryan McGinness, Spencer Tunick, and Jill Greenberg; and Archie — the first search engine, launched by the Barbadian coder Alan Emtage in 1989 and whose name is short for “archive.” Archie indexed FTP sites across the internet, and users had to send in search requests via email. The version of the search engine on display is now maintained by the University of Warsaw’s Interdisciplinary Centre for Mathematical and Computational Modeling.
Emtage is among the creatives not widely known but who take responsibility for tools we still use today. 64 Bits also highlights the work of graphic designer Susan Kare, who conceived of visuals such as the original Mac icons, the MacPaint interface, and the artwork for the playing cards of Windows Solitaire. As for our webcams, credit is due to caffeine-starved students at Cambridge University’s Computer Laboratory. In 1993, Daniel Gordan and Martyn Johnson set up a web browser where they live-streamed the feed from a camera centered on a coffee pot to avoid wasting time on disappointing journeys to an empty pot.
Unlike dirt-filled dig sites, excavating the archaeology of the internet unearths things many people have actually experienced firsthand. 64 Bits reminds us of the relationship between the fast-developing web and memory — how, increasingly, the internet breeds short attention spans, even when it comes to phenomena that captivate us. (Remember the craze over Subservient Chicken?) Notably, the exhibition invites visitors to mine their own pasts for digital objects that hold personal meaning. Any visitor can bring in obsolete media and receive assistance from experts at the British Library who will migrate the inaccessible historical works to modern formats. Some of these will also be added to 64 Bits. The exhibition thus presents not only an opportunity to look back at the web’s greatest hits, but also one to consider some of our own forgotten stories.
