How to Spot Fake Recruiters / Agencies : Guidelines for Overseas Jobseekers
During the COVID pandemic - there has been a rise in the number of fake recruiters on social media platforms such as Facebook, Linkedin and Whatsapp. Some of these fake recruiters are looking to scam and make money of desperate jobseekers while others are only trying to increase their followers / likes on these platforms.
Some of these scamsters are even using the names of reputed recruitment companies like Ambe International, Asiapower, Gheewala, Asmacs etc. All the licensed agencies are working together to regularly report such fraud cases to the authorities but the UGC policies of the social media platforms do not allow easy way to verify these or take down such content. So unfortunately these frauds continue.
Please use the following guiding points, we encourage everyone to please note these and help spread these to everyone looking for a job overseas.
The main point here is to only apply for overseas jobs through a licensed Recruitment Company (please see below on how to Search Recruiting Agent through the Ministry of External Affairs). This will help ensure that you get treated fairly and are recruited to a Good Company overseas.
How to spot fake recruiter profiles ?
1.     Please use the following warning signals to watch out for fake recruiters,
a.      They will use gmail address and will normally not have a proper domain name in their email address
b.     The Recruitment Company they represent will not have fixed physical address or website for recruitment company
c.      Their Linkedin profile will not have any endorsements. Their Linkedin connections will mostly be Open Networkers and not necessarily related to Recruitment
d.     They will prefer using Whatsapp correspondence without any official email ID
e.      If they say they are representing a known recruitment Company like @Ambe International, @Asiapower, @Gheewala etc please check the domain of their email address and ask for official email always
f.       If the recruiters cannot share their email addresses due to high volume of resumes then please at least interact with them only through the official Facebook / Linkedin profiles of these recruitment companies
2.     If the recruiter is asking for a Comment or like on their posts and say they will review your profile - they are probably looking for a way to increase their traffic and followers. Please note that none of the recruitment software today can parse contact information of applications from comments or likes in a social media platform effectively
3.     Many posts on Linkedin say that we have several jobs in multiple countries and to please comment and we will review your profile and revert. These are almost always fake recruiters who are trying to increase their followers and profiles
How to verify Offer Letter
1.     Please check the Company Letterhead carefully for following warning signals
a.      Footer missing
b.     Signature of person without designation
c.      No name of person who is signing
d.     No company contact information in Header or Footer
e.      No company stamp
2.     If there is any doubt call up the Company overseas to speak to the person who issued the offer letter. The answer of their operator itself will tell you if that person works at the Company or not
3.     A tell-tale signal that Offer letter is fake is when it is sent on Whatsapp and not from an official email address
4.     The Company issuing the offer letter does not have an official website

3.     UAE
a.      Check labour contract https://eservices.mohre.gov.ae/molforms/offerinquiry.aspx
b.     Check visa application status and availability for different emirates Track visa application and validity
4.     Oman - Royal Oman Police
5.     Bahrain - eVisa Enquiry
Best Practices for Overseas Jobseekers
1.     Apply to only Registered / Licensed recruitment companies - Use Search Recruiting Agent to search for the list of India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) licensed recruitment Companies
2.     Always ask the recruiter for an official email from their official email address. Always check the domain of the email address and ensure that its not from a phishing domain (Google will always point this out in a yellow highlight within the email) and that the domain belongs to a registered or reputable recruitment company
3.     Recruitment should be done on employment visa. Visit visas are only used for Shutdowns. Current situation (during the COVID pandemic) is exceptional as during the pandemic many countries are not issuing employment visas yet, so some recruitment may happen on visit visas
4.     Dont pay money to the recruitment Company till visa is received. And always pay the money into a bank account which belongs to the Company and not to an individual or at the office of the recruitment company. Never pay into a Google Pay or Paytm account
5.     Travelling internationally right now is very complex. During departure the recruitment company should provide detailed information regarding RTPCR, Quarantine, Vaccination, COVID-mobile-app rules. Candidates are encouraged to follow these carefully

3.     If you come across any of the patterns described above – please put in the comments of the posting asking the recruiter for their official email address
4.     If you are a Senior candidate applying for a Management role then some of these guidelines may not apply to you – as you would already be aware of the genuine Recruitment Companies and End-Employers in the Gulf and we encourage you to continue using only such channels
5.     Please share jobs from Companies such as @Ambe International widely on Social Media and Whatsapp with links to official Linkedin and Facebook Page only
