707 Crying Phone Call - Korean vs. English Comparison
Tumblr media
Hi logicallyhalfbaked~♡
So after what seems like forever, I will finally answer the next request in line!! Sorry for those I haven't gotten to yet! I promise you you are coming up soon! I just haven't gotten to you yet! ^^
I found this question to be worth mentioning because I feel like the English version misses out on an important Korean context! I will explain to you just what I mean under the cut ^^
In other news, I am dying. I just finished my Finance class studying and I am mentally dead right now =u= I hate my major all the time sometimes. It hasn't even been a week since the semester started and I am already waiting for it to end.
Sooooo yeah, that's my life rn =w= how is everyone else?? Reply or send me a PM♡
Please note that although this is an analysis, there may be opinions that may differ or be consistent with mine! While I can give some sort of Korean background, for debatable topics, I do not represent all of the Korean minds for respective topics. Also, please excuse any errors or let me know if clarifications are needed, for English is not my first language! Thank you and enjoy!
Okay, so there is one big Korean context that is left out in the English translation version, and that is the infamous, 쿠쿠다스.
쿠쿠다스...
Sooo yummy, but so. fucking. messy.
Remember this CG from a chat with 707?
Tumblr media
Well, this cookie is called a 쿠쿠다스 (koo)(koo)(da)(su) and it is referenced from this--
Tumblr media
You breathe next to this cookie and it breaks. I swear to God. When I was a kid, my mom never bought this for me or my brother because she knew this would be the end for her. More of it is on the floor than consumed, I swear to God.
Well...I might be a liiiiittle bit exaggerating on that, but I remember I would pray that the cookie wasn't already broken before I even open it, or I break it in the process.
Now, why I am explaining this is because the call is based around 쿠쿠다스 or "bread crumbs" in the translation version.
Also due to product placement, I think they call this 쿠쿠다수 not 쿠쿠다스 lolol. I am sure that 707 is referencing and comparing how his life feels like currently by using this cookie.
I am not sure how people felt it being “bread crumbs.” Especially since the choices for the phone call itself was different.
Let me show you.
Tumblr media
Seven is literally saying, “koo koo koo koo” while in the English, I am pretty sure he says, “hahahaha” or something like that. I don’t remember, but he was implicated to be laughing??
Then, MC gets the choice to say this:
Tumblr media
“(koo)(koo)(da)(su) the name of the cookie...do you want to eat the cookie?”
The English translation version says: “Hahahahahahaha! You’re so funny!”
This conversation is already branching off to two completely different topics, I feel =w=
Tumblr media
In the above Korean version, Seven says, “I already bought it...(koo)(koo)(da)(su)...this cookie because my heart’s other half...I will transfer from Honey Buddha Chips.”
The English translation version says: “Yeah I am hahahahahaha. MY heart’s crumbled into bread crumbs...so yummy...”
I kinda died when I heard Seven. Like omfg.
Tumblr media
The above Korean version says: You know why, it is because I have become (just writing it in Korean because I’m lazy lol) 쿠쿠다수...to be honest, I was born in the planet of 쿠쿠다수...I think that’s why my heart is shattered into crumbs...
The English translation version says: Shattered into million little pieces of bread crumbs...I was born in the planet of bread crumbs...I think that’s why my heart’s turned into bread crumbs...
Tumblr media
The above Korean version says: They say that eating sweets when you feel like this makes it better...hahaha...*cries*...oh...I am tearing up. What’s wrong me with me...am I bipolar?
English translation version: I heard eating sweets helps when you feel like this...hahaha...hahahahaha..no...uh...a tear just fell from my eyes. What’s wrong with me...am I bipolar or something?
Tumblr media
Korean version: I think my 쿠쿠다수 friends...have something to say to me...
English translation version: I think my bread crumb friends have something to say...
Tumblr media
Korean version: I’m going to go talk to my 쿠쿠다수 friends. Bye. koo koko kokokooo kokoo (lol sounds he made).
English: I’m gonna go talk with my crumbs a bit. Bye. Hahahahaha.
So, while the main topic or message was kinda delivered, I still feel the Korean version was more stronger. I think because there is a context that was understood by using the 쿠쿠다스 cookie.
Also, I left out a lot of the crying dialogue because it was virtually the same.
Poor Seven ㅠㅠ I felt pretty heartbroken in this call. Why did he have to reference 쿠쿠다스?! I don’t know if I can ever go and buy it now because of this depressing context TwT
So yes, that is the big differences in this call! I am sorry if it seems toooo concise. I am actually supposed to be studying for my Strategic Marketing class =w= my professor said we may have a quiz.
I hate when they do this to me. I start going paranoid!
Before I leave, please send in request! They are always open, but please do mind that I have my own pace when making the answers because it requires me to go back and make translations and explanations ^^
See you next post!

Hi Seol!! I love your blog! Thank you for putting so much effort into giving us more insight into MM, you are really amazing!! In Jumin's normal end (I can't remember if this is mentioned in his good end) during the party, it is mentioned that because Glam and Sarah Choi are sisters, they can't legally marry Mr Han and Juju, is there a law that prohibits this sort of marriages in Korea? (1/2)
Hi annalulz~^^
I do apologize for such a late reply…I was SOOO busy with life and getting  posts ready with @those-starlights for the Mystic Messenger blog that she and I are managing, @mystictranslators ! Do check it out for comparison of translations and etc~!
OH, and here is part 2 of your question: because in a normal situation (out of true love I guess I could say) I don’t think it would be illegal, weird maybe, but not illegal??? I’d love to hear your thoughts on this matter. And again, thank you so much for doing this for the MysMe fandom!!! (2/2)
Thank you for the personal opinion question btw~ hehe ^^
I am not going to lie…but I had to do my own research and even ask a lot of people because I was actually not 100% sure myself LOL.
“불법은 아니나 사회 통념상 허용하기가 어려웠지.”
That is probably the easiest way to explain it and it is pretty much as you say, not illegal, but socially and interpersonally very weird and for the extra traditional side of Korea, I would say that it is pretty unacceptable.
I am assuming it is for the image of C&R since this kind of marriage would be a bit of a negative impact. I even did a blind survey with everyone around me and not a single person said they would be okay with that!
I personally would find it weird as well, and I don’t think I would be okay with it if I was actually in Jumin’s shoes tbh…
That is just my opinion though =w=
Aside from my opinion though, how does everyone else think about this? In Korea, especially my personal survey, I got pretty negative results.
How does everyone outside of Korea feel about something like this?
Thanks again, annalulz for the question~~^^ if you would like more input on my opinion and etc.do let me know~

hi seol! since your brother is hyun, i was wondering how common are the other mystic messenger characters first/last names? also zen mentioned that v's real name is a 'friendly sounding korean name'. why is that?
Hi there ^^
I wish I can hyperlink a post! I am currently at Busan (for a radio broadcast club get together) and so sadly, I will just leave the link and edit it later~
https://mysmess-seol.tumblr.com/post/156990382185/rfa-members-korean-name-meanings-will-edit-in-the
In the above link, it kinda shows the meanings that the names of the RFA are bound to have. V’s name is commonly known as having the meaning of benevolence ^^
So to answer your first question with how common the names are, this is all personal experience with the people I have met in my life and so on~
For Jumin, I know one Jumin in my life. He is actually my cousin =w= other than him, I don’t know many Jumins really. Other than our dearest Jumin Han, and my idiot of a cousin Jumin Kang xwx
Jaehee. I personally know three Jaehees, and there are notable people in either the entertainment world or just people I have read about named Jaehee, so I will say that Jaehee is moderately common. Depending on the person it can be spelled either 재희 or 제희. Also, interestingly enough, two out of the three Jaehees I know are actually male lolol.
Hyuuuun. So the whole idea of a one syllable or character name (외자) is not as common. So my name or the name Hyun is not seen that often. I have never met another Hyun in my life tbh. Just like I have never met another Seol irl.
Yoosung. Yoosung is probably the number one for most common name out of this list =w= throughout my whole 23 years of living, I have met sooooooo many Yoosungs. I even said in a previous post that my first crush was also named Yoosung xD
Saeyoung and Saeran. I have heard of Saeyoung a lot, but most of them were actually girls. Saeran, I have never heard of before this game tbh. I wish I knew a Saeran irl though lolol.
V, or Jihyun. I think that is second on the list of most common. Granted though, I have never really met a Jihyun that is a guy =w=
I think I covered everyone! I hope anyway =w= to conclude, I think Yoosung and Jihyun would be considered the most common! Saeran is probably the rarest.

Jumin's Change in Speech - Korean vs. English Comparison
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Heeeello there♡
So I decided to answer both of these at the same time because I was going to add the “honey bunny” thing in here anyhow haha.
Lol, I love the first question. Mostly because the answer is, pretty much both of that lolol.
He still uses speech that isn't necessarily used in contemporary use of the Korean language while still being an uber cheesy and a fluffy donut. I love that about him though haha. So cute and oh so precious haha.
Oh, and before I go on, I want to thank you for enjoying my blog~♡ it is the best thing to say that will boost my confidence and self esteem hehe ^^
Also, I m sorry for the lack of posting these past couple of days...probably over a week. Not even sure at this point =w= I was reaaaaaally busy in Japan, and now I am back in Korea after my quick OT, and will probably return to Japan after this semester ends. Which started like yesterday. So much going on ahhhh!
Enough of my whining. I will go ahead and explain the answer to this question below the cut ^^
To start, let's begin with some interesting differences in Jumin's humor from the Korean version to English translation version.
I guess since in the Korean version he speaks English, I was curious to see what he says in the actual English version =w=
Tumblr media
The 훗 is not really, “haha,” but can be seen as “haha” since it is spelled out as, “hoot” which is a sound for a chuckle of sorts written out in Korean haha.
The English version uses I think French? I am not very friendly with the European languages so sorry if I sounded ignorant if I am wrong =w= do correct me if I am and I will correct it asap!
But yes, below is the English version:
Tumblr media
The random English in this game is sooo funny tbh haha. There are moments where in the English version, the parts they actual use English in the Korean version is omitted in the translation version. It is a shame since it is the funniest parts .__.
The next thing I wanted talk about is Jumin and his use of 유행어/통신어 which is like, shortened words in Korean that pretty much break all rules of grammar most of the times and just sounds “cute” or is easier to type out?
I have no idea how to explain this lolol.
I rarely use this kind of trend in writing because it seems so babyish to me. Sometimes I do it veeeerry slightly, but not extreme.
For example, I will use a very easy example.
안녕하세요 (ahn)(young)(ha)(se)(yo). Hello in Korean, formal.
You can make it 안녕하세용 by adding one more character and it will change it to, (ahn)(young)(ha)(se)(yong). Tada. Now it became a word that isn’t even considered a word in Korean =w=
So let’s go to the screenshot in question:
Tumblr media
MC says, 들어가세염~ when truly, it should be 들어가세요. To which, Jumin replies, “저 가염~” which should be 저 가요.
I cringed so hard when I read that like omg. I was glad to read the bottom message which is, “...is that what you’d think I’d say?” or something similar.
In the English version, Jumin says, “See ya~” and I don’t think it gives the same effect especially since in Korean, Jumin uses such old fashioned Korean =w=
The reason I showed that one first is because that was the easier version of the usage of this rule breaking Korean lol.
The famous honey bunny that I have never heard of before going through the English version =w=
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Alright, so here we go.
MC in English says, “Is my honey bunny here?” MC in Korean says, “우리 쟈기 와쪙?” (oo)(ri) (jya)(gi) (wa)(jjyung)?
Originally, it should be, “우리 자기 왔어?” (oo)(ri) (ja)(gi) (wass)(uh)?
Lol. So many differences. The thing that MC sent is very very very babyish to give a cute effect. It virtually means, “Is my honey here?” The 자기 is the same as jagiya, jagi to clear things up!
Afterwards, Jumin is at first like what? Oh, so this is what it means whoaaaa, and replies with 와찌염.
My God.
That made me go berserk lol.
The last time I heard 와찌염 was when I used to do volunteer work at a nursery home LOL.
So since it is indeed hard to translate this kind of interaction in English, I would say honey bunny was added in to substitute for that, which is totally understandable, but personally, I found honey bunny much more cuter than the Korean version only because I am not a fan of this kind of interaction xwx
I hope I was able to clear things up~
I already feel that this post isn’t as detailed as I would like. I am actually at the school library right now typing this up as we speak. I had screenshots of this ready since last week LOL, but I just got started on this now.
Hopefully this will suffice! ^^
I will see you next post~
Now, I need to go to my Finance class TwT

The Ju and L Rule Explanation - Korean vs. English Comparison
Tumblr media
Hi there♡
Thanks so much for the kind words~ you are just too sweet! And no worries! You aren’t dumb at all! I will gladly explain to you what this means! ^^
But omg. This. I totally forgot the amount of cringe I went through from this one!! Probably because the English language does not use this kind of word play. I hope I am able to make it easy to understand!
Please join me under the cut to go through an explanation of what MM translation meant by “Ju and L Rule.”
So before we start with the the text messages in question, let me explain why this does not sound as natural in English, and that is because it is 줄임말 or also known as shortened speech. This kind of thing is very common in Korea, and used all the time.
To give an example before getting into the actual stuff, for those that have seen my prologue “error” post which I will link here for those who have not seen it yet, Unknown/Saeran uses this kind of word play with the word, 존잘남.
To review, 존잘남 is a combination of three words: 존나: fucking 잘생긴: good lucking 남자: guy
See the pattern, right?
For those who are learning Korean, here are just a little more tips in terms of learning the language with a couple more examples of 줄임말.
☆깜놀 (ggam-nol): it is short for 깜짝놀랐어요. It means you, you scared me.
☆멘붕 (men-boong): it is short for 멘탈붕괴. It means, mental collapse.
☆ 카톡 (ka-talk): it is short for 카카오톡. It means, Kakao Talk, a popular messaging app in Korea.
☆ 프사 (p-sa): it is short for 프로필 사진. It means, profile picture.
☆ 페북 (pe-book): it is short for 페이스북. It means, facebook.
☆ 템 (tem): it is short for 아이템. It means, item. A word that Yoosung uses a lot when talking about lolol.
That is just a small percentage of 줄임말 that I provided that is used a lot just for the sake of having some examples to help you understand the following concept ^^
Let’s go to the chatroom between Jumin, 707, and MC that started this all.
Tumblr media
I’ll go ahead and put down the translations below.
707: 꺄 Seol’s translation: Kya MM translation: >_
707: 네엡~ Seol's translation: Yes/Okay~ (formal) MM translation: Okay~
707: 허니봤다칩은 칼질할 필요도 없음. Seol's translation: You don't need a knife for Honey Buddha Chips. MM translation: No need to use a knife for Honey Buddha Chips.
707: 짭조름하다가 달아지는 Seol's translation: First salty then sweet MM translation: It's salty but becomes sweet later on
☆☆ 707: 짠단의 법칙을 준수한다. MM translation: following the Law of Sweet and Salty.
Alright. So this is where we stop for a moment. "The Law of Sweet and Salty."
법칙 definitely does mean law. The reason why it is the Law of Sweet and Salty is because of the combination of 짜다 (salty) and 달다 (sweet).
So in truth, 짠단 is not an actual word in the Korean language. Just a play on words, so to speak.
Like above, I mentioned through there that Unknown/Saeran uses the term "존잘남." It is not a real word in the Korean language, but a combination of three separate Korean words, (존나: fucking, 잘생긴: good looking, 남자: guy).
Thus the birth of the word, 존잘남.
In the case of this conversation with 707 and Jumin, 707 says, 짠단의 법칙. With the same pattern, we can see 짜다/짠음식 (salty) being combined with 달다/단음식 (sweet) to create the 짠단 combination that 707 thought of.
I think I explained that one as thoroughly as I can ^^ let’s move on to the text message conversation in question!
Tumblr media
Jumin: 세븐이가 도가 지나쳐서 채팅방에서 나왔지만, 재미있는 이야기를 많이 들었어. Seol’s translation: I left the chat room because Seven was going overboard, but I still heard lots of fun stories. MM translation: Seven was going overboard so I left the chat room, but I heard a lot of funny stories.
Jumin: 짠단의 법칙 말고도 알고 있는 게 있다면 알려주면 좋겠어. Seol’s and MM translation: If you know something other than the sweet and salty rule, then please let me know.
☆☆ MC: 주사의 법칙! 힌트! 주는 주민이에요, 사는 뭘까요~ ☆☆ Seol’s translation: The Ju-Sa rule! Hint! Ju stands for Jumin, what does Sa stand for~ ☆☆ MM translation: The Ju and L rule! Ju stands for Jumin, what does L stand for~?
☆☆ Jumin: 주민 사무실, 주민 사과, 주민 사람… ☆☆ MM translation: Jumin leaving, Jumin list, Jumin left…
My translation for the above is a little more complicated. So, I said above that instead of Ju and L rule, I said “Ju-Sa rule.” You guys noticed like I explained way before this the pattern of how 줄임말 works?? It has to start with the 주 (ju) character and the next word has to start with 사 (sa) character.
Let’s break it down by character.
주민 사무실: (Ju)(Min) (Sa)(Mu)(Shil) - this means Jumin Office.
주민 사과: (Ju)(Min) (Sa)(Gwa) - this means Jumin Apple.
주민 사람: (Ju)(Min) (Sa)(Ram) - this means Jumin Person.
You see the, “Ju-Sa” pattern right? ^^
Since all of those are obvs not the right answer, let’s go one with the next translation.
Jumin: 감이 안 오는군… Seol’s translation: I have no idea… (Jumin’s way of speech) MM translation: I don’t know…
Tumblr media
Jumin: 설마… Seol’s and MM translation: No way…
Jumin: 주민 사랑의 법칙…이건…아니겠지? MM translation: Jumin and Love…this…this isn’t it, right?
Yay! Good job, Jumin! You got it buddy!
Ju-Sa stands for 주민 사랑의 법칙!
주민 사랑: (Ju)(Min) (Sa)(Rang) - this means Jumin Love.
So in the end, I do definitely see how this can be confusing for you, nonny! I totally brushed aside this at first because this kind of word play is very very very common in Korea. I didn’t even think about how they would translate this (or even translate at all) in the English version, but fundamentally it is the same or right idea! Just a difference in the fact that there isn’t this kind of word play in English, but there is in Korean ^^
I found this to be personally relatable. These days, 줄임말 is becoming very overused. Sometimes I don’t understand what some of them mean and like what 707 was doing, making 짠단 at the spot, there are many times my friends would pull the same exact shit and expect me to know what that means like omg ^^;;;
Anyways, I hope this made sense to you, anon and everyone else that made it this far~!! This was really fun to type up because I love explaining about the differences in culture ^^
Before I leave, upcoming news! I am leaving for Japan in a couple days, whaaaaat! Yes. I am going for things related to employment though so no time for fun, unfortunately =w= and then uni starts again and I can already feel the depression coming ^^;;;
For the ones that are either prepping for classes like me or are already going through the pain, good luck to you all! Even if you think no one is rooting for you, Seol is~ so keep believing in yourselves because you CAN do it, and no one can say you can’t ^^
Keep smiling and see you next post~

707′s “Fishing” - Korean vs. English Explanation
Tumblr media
Hi there, nonny♡
Before I get on with this request, I would first of all like to say this was a really funny chat room for me. I absolutely love Seven, he is such a goof ball. I would be glad to help you out with this request! ^^
Aww, thank you! It isn’t long before I experience death without actually dying. I always ask myself why I go to uni when I hate studying. Why didn’t I think of something else that I want to pursue instead? Probably because I don’t have anything in specific that I want to do.
I honestly don’t know what I am thinking either? It is just normal for me, I guess. My brother got into the same uni as me and he is taking 22 credits too and he is a medical major, and I can already feel the aura.
I remember I used to get home from high school at like 10PM?? It is a sad story.
ANYWAYS, I am going on a random tangent. Please join me under the cut if you would like the punny funny reason as to why this “fishing” thing was probably added to the chat room conversation ^^
Let's go ahead with a screenshot of the chat! I asked my friend to actually find the chat for me because of recent complications with my network connection (currently in Japan).
Thanks Nayeon~♡ (나여니 고마웡♡♡♡)
Tumblr media
ZEN: 세븐이 저 녀석은 이유 없이 사람 뒤통수 칠 것 같지만; Seol's translation: Seven could "stab us in the back" for no reason though. MM translation: I bet Seven can totally back stab us without any reason though. -_-
I put "stab us in the back" in quotations because essentially it is what it means, but it is literally translated to, "hit in the back of the head" another expression used in Korea.
ZEN: 나연 씨, 혹시라도 이 대화를 보게 되면 잘 기억해. Seol's translation: Nayeon (MC), if you ever get to see this conversation, remember this. MM translation: Nayeon (MC), if you get to see this convo, remember this.
ZEN: 세븐이는... Seol's and MM translation: Seven is...
☆☆ ZEN: 낚시를 잘하니까 조심해. Seol's translation: good at fishing so be careful. MM translation: good at fishing.
So, fishing. While in the CG given right after this shows Seven actually fishing, in Korea, fishing actually has two meanings!
One being actually fishing, another meaning is, getting played =w=
This chatroom was probably made to give a heads up to Seven being a troll for the Korean community.
So, "good at fishing" could mean that he is actually good fishing, or good at playing people, orrrrrr coincidentally, both =w=
For a quick sum-up: 낚시 - fishing, getting played. 낚임/낚은 - got played.
Let me give you an example of when this expression is used in the game! You guys will probably know since we all know the very famous, pass out from drinking caffeine disease or whatever it was called =w=
(thanks again Nayeon♡)
Let's start with the name of the chatroom differences for Korean and English.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You guys see in the Korean version, there is the character I mentioned earlier, right? (낚은). So literally translated, Seven "caught(fishing)" Yoosung.
Now, with that said, let me go ahead and put up the Korean and English comparison for the choices that you can choose after Seven leaves the chatroom. I circled the choices in question ^^
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As you can see, in the English version, it is translated as "you were tricked." While that is indeed true, the expression used to accurately portray what was actually said in the Korean is different, once again.
We see the same character again, here!
낚였음.
This means, "you were caught" in the context that Seven was "fishing."
One more thing to take a look at~
Tumblr media
Before I get to anything, let me translate this really quickly for you.
Jaehee: ㅇㅇ... Seol's Translation: yes yes (it is like "k" in Korean) MM translation: Ya...
Yoosung: 네..? Seol's Translation: Pardon..? (other terms, yes:formal) MM translation: What..?
☆☆ Jaehee: 파닥파닥. ☆☆ Seol's Translation: (sounds of fish flopping) ☆☆ MM translation: You are a fish on a hook.
☆☆ Jaehee: 월척. ☆☆ Seol's Translation: big fish ☆☆ MM translation: Struggling to stay alive.
Yoosung: ?!
This is Jaehee expressing that Yoosung was basically played by Seven, and in Korea, fishing is what is associated with that kind of situation!
So there we have it! Fishing was talked about before in the very first chat that I introduced, but I don't think many people actually know that fishing had another meaning in Korea!
Unless I am an idiot and there is an expression that I don’t know about...
Seven may be good at actual fishing, but he is also good at the other kind as we all already know =w=
As for Yoosung, I feel for him.
I get "caught" all the time. So much it is something I get made fun of on the daily :')
So like Zen, I will say the same.
Watch out for those "fishermen" out there ;w;

RFA Members Korean Name Meanings (will edit in the future)
Tumblr media
Hi nonny♡
Once again, I looked through my requests to find the fastest one I can get done. This one seemed the fastest for now so I am answering this question first ^^;;;; I should stop saying I will answer these questions the order they come in.
But in all honesty, I’m really sorry for the hold up in the requests, especially to those that sent them in a long time ago but I haven’t gotten back to. A lot of them takes so much time and I currently don’t have the time to actually get them done.
But this one seems really fun. I can finally put the 한자 (Chinese Characters) I learned from like preschool to high school to use ^^
You are definitely right when you say that names do have meanings. They all derive from the 한자 that I mentioned above! Depending on the character, the meaning to one’s name could be completely different! Currently, the only precise 한자 name I know from MysMess is Jumin’s because his was on his business card. I can guess what Yoosung and V’s are, but for now I’ll tell you guys what I think.
So, let’s start with mine since anon would like to know~
Seol Ryu (류설)
My name is very unique in the sense that my name itself is only one character long (외자). Most people in Korea tend to have two characters in their name.
I was wondering if I should reveal which Ryu I am, but I decided not to because it doesn’t really have a meaning? It is just a family name so I will just go on to explain my first name.
偰 맑을 설
My name means pure, clean, clear, things like that! I…seriously don’t live up to that LOL. Sometimes I wonder what my parents were thinking when they named me ^^;;; I still think about this. My brother always says that my name is so misleading.
Well, so is his. Jk I love you.
I’ll explain because while I also thought about this for a while. I wanted to share this fun fact a long time ago, but I decided not to. Now, I have a reason to lol and that is, my brother actually dead ass has the same name as Zen.
Yep, my little bro is also Hyun Ryu. Except he’s 20, two centimeters taller than Zen, and a medical major not a musical actor =w=
ZEN/Hyun Ryu (류현)
Well, I don’t exactly know what his 한자 name is. But I can definitely share my brother’s. I’m not sure if it would be the same but let’s see lol.
炫 밝을 현
My brother’s name means, bright. If Zen also shares the same 한자 character then hey, that’s what his name would mean! I’m not sure which “Ryu” Zen is, but I think in my imagination all the time that we have the same character =w=
Sorry, Hyunnie. I didn’t mean to expose you but lol, too bad. He doesn’t even have a tumblr, what am I sorry about lols. Noona still loves you♡
Jumin Han (한주민)
So, Jumin has his name in 한자 if you see his business card in either the calling menu or the VIP package~
韓 한국 한, 나라 한 (우리 나라의 성의 하나)
主 임금 주, 주인 주
旻 하늘 민
Let’s start with Han! If I remember correctly there is only one Han for family name. Which is the same character for 대한민국 (South Korea). Correct me if I’m wrong. I’m an uneducated little walnut.
Next is his name, Ju Min.
임금 means wage (Ju) or 주인 means owner
하늘 means sky (Min)
I will be honest, I knew what the characters meant separately but lol, I don’t know what they are supposed to mean together. Am I just stupid? I think I have issues. Maybe it is related to how he is the company director of C&R. I don’t know. I’m pretty sure it means something like that ^3^
Yoosung Kim (김유성)
Same with the family name, I do not know which Kim he is, but I can definitely predict which Yoosung he is, and he gives it away when he refers to himself as a shooting star ^^
流 흐를 유
星 별 성
Exactly as it is written, 흐를 유 means, falling and 별 성 means star. His name is so pretty ;3; I remember this name a lot because my first crush’s name was 유성 with this exact 한자 don’t tell Hyun.
Jaehee Kang (강제희)
I wish Jaehee’s business card had her 한자 characters on it. I am curious to know because a friend of mine has the same name and I will just assume that she might have the same meaning? Who knows =w=
帝 임금 제
喜 기쁠 희
We see 임금 again for the “Jae” part of her name! (The same meaning in Jumin’s name meaning wages). The “hee” part of her name is 기쁠 희 which means happiness.
I feel like this would make sense since she works for C&R in the game.
V/Jihyun Kim (김지현)
This one I made a guess judging by V’s personality lolol.
至 이를 지
賢 어질 현
His name (that I just made up just from his personality in the game) virtually means 매우 어질고 착함. 더할 수 없이 어질고 슬기로움.
Orrr, in English, very gentle benevolent, wise.
As you can see, even though both Zen (and my bro lol) and V have the “hyun” character, they could have different meanings.
Lol, I had to bring my 한자 book from my shelf to try and make this and I think it worked out well. I really hope that this is the 한자 for his name because it fits him so well.
Okay, for 707 and Saeran….I am actually on a blank T3T I’m not sure how to go about their names. I’m sure if I look around enough I can make a name but it is a lot harder than I thought. I wish everyone was given their names just like Jumin =w= if I have enough time maaaaybe I will go through my 한자 textbook and try to assemble a name that I can base from their personality, but I tried thinking for now and nothing is coming…
Saeyoung and Saeran fans, Seol is sorry ㅠㅠ
I will come back in the future and edit this post. 세영 and 세란 is kinda hard for me…if there are other people out their who have some sort of 한자 assembled for their names, please let me know. I would love to know because I am at a loss TwT
For now, I’ll go bye bye~
See you next post!

Jumin's Treatment towards Jaehee (Jaehee's Route) - Korean vs. English Comparison
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hi♡
I got two questions that are very similar, but in two different languages whaaat~ this is actually a very good question! I was actually hoping that someone would ask me this question because I think there is a big clash between my opinion and a lot of opinions (mostly majority) I would assume ^^;;; I would be glad to answer this question, and as a sneak peak, I will tell you, I think quite similar to you! I’ll explain soon ^^
Okay! With the greetings out of the way, please join me under the cut if you would like to know more about why I don’t really sympathize or identify with Jaehee in this topic or the criticism towards Jumin for his behavior during Jaehee’s route.
So, I want to begin with my explanation before anything. I want to make it clear that I am not saying that Jumin's actions are justified, and yes, it is preeeetty harsh. But please do understand, in Korea...
This is not new.
I am currently a third year student in university, and I have been preparing for employment ever since high school. With Jaehee as Jumin's secretary for C&R, a big big company/conglomerate in the Mystic Messenger world, more than finding Jumin's actions something I couldn't identify with, I find Jaehee's actions more the case.
Employment in Korea is very difficult. I personally would dream to have Jaehee's job considering it is also my university major, but the probability that will happen is not that high even if I do have the best grades. Not only that though, but this is the reality of work culture. I hate to say it, but it is true. Yoosung mentions a bit about this issue in a chat. A degree won't get you anywhere and that sucks soooo much. I think I almost went through a mental breakdown when Yoosung said that tbh orz.
Working overtime or in Korean, 야근 is very common. Not having vacation time is very common. A boss like Jumin or more often the case, worse than him, is very common. Quitting the job the way Jaehee did? Not so much.
So I personally could not sympathize with Jaehee. For the sake of getting the good end, I did choose the answers that were pretty much telling Jumin to chill out and stop giving Jaehee so much work, but in all honesty, if I could say what I wanted to, I probably would have told her to suck it up. If a post would make people hate me, this would be it. This sounds worse than I initially put it off to be.
DON'T HATE ME YET.
Like I said. I am not saying that Jumin is right though. Of course I would want Jaehee to have a more easier time with her work. Who wouldn't?? Jaehee is a great character and in the later part of her route, she is just precious. I mean it, it is just that I can't sympathize or agree with her actions.
Her ending was so idealistic and something that even I wish were to happen to me as well. However, as idealistic as it is, I highly doubt it is realistic. It is fiction after all. I wish it weren't though.
Jumin's representation as Jaehee's boss is definitely a real thing, and I have experienced it one way or another. It is not something I enjoy and I can relate to how she feels. But like I said, it is her actions that I cannot relate with.
So, now that that is out of the way. I will go on with this post by comparing some parts of her route that I could compare and contrast, Korean vs. English!
I will probably make another part because there are lots of cases with this issue. I will just pick out a couple scenarios and move on from there.
I will start with this one.
Tumblr media
Let me translate it for you,
Jaehee: At the time, I had too much work to do...is my only excuse right now.
Jumin: If you’re going to make an excuse, I want to hear a proper one.
Jaehee: 이사님 (CEO/president - not really Mr. Han), as you already know, there is a limit to the amount of work I do within my work hours.
Jaehee: I think I couldn’t reserve your ticket because I had other work on top to deal with. English translation: I think I forgot because there was so much work around that time.
☆☆ 한주민: 그럼 근무 시간을 늘려. ☆☆ Jumin: Then extend your work hours.
I want to star this because this was almost a deja vu for me.
It doesn’t matter what the excuse is. If there is a strict and existing hierarchy which we do see here, Jumin is always right. Sadly, that is the case here.
In my experience, I had something like this happen. My boss told me the only excuse he would take is a death certificate.
Well, he’s nice, right?
Welcome to the 야근 (working overtime) life Jaehee ^^
Tumblr media
Jumin: Another department? The cherry farm ticket for Elizabeth...
Jumin: you had another department book my flight?
☆☆ 한주민: 난 처음 듣는 일이야 ☆☆ Jumin: This is the first time I’m hearing this.
☆☆ 강제희: 제가 너무 바빠서 그 쪽에 부탁을 했습니다. ☆☆ Jaehee: I was too busy so I asked them.
☆☆☆ 한주민: 나한테는 말도 안하고 말이군. ☆☆☆ Jumin: Without telling me.
Jaehee: ...first.
Alright, so I wanna bring this up because lol, something like this happened to me too.
That was my excuse. I was too busy because of my workload and I had forget to inform my superior about it.
My superior rolled up lots of papers and just smacked me in the head. It is a good memory.
The choices that the MC could say can either be supporting Jaehee and taking her side, but the other is more focus on your work kind of ordeal. I made this exact mistake before once in my life, and even I acknowledge that if I had told my boss about informing in this case, another department, I probably would not have gotten in that mess to begin with.
So in this case, I definitely know what it feels like to be in Jaehee’s shoes, but I do feel that Jumin’s words are justified.
Tumblr media
Oh oh man. This one.
사과할 생각이 안 드는군. The thought to apologize does not come up. English translation: Of course I have no plans to apologize.
사과에 쓸 에너지를 회사에 쓰는 게 낫지. It is better to use the energy I could use to apologize to work. English translation: I would rather use the energy to work.
I remember a friend of mine from the US would tell me that that was what did it for her and Jumin. But to be honest, this is just a thing here in Korea. Not something I personally enjoy if I really think about it, but I’m used to it, so I’m not really affected by it. If it is a big company like in this case, C&R it is just kinda normal.
Not bashing my own country or anything, but there is just that kind of nuance.
Which brings me to my next point,
Tumblr media
MC: 두분 다 점심은 드셨나요? MC:Did you both have lunch yet?
한주민: 난 미팅에서 일식을 먹었지... Jumin: I had Japanese food at my meeting...
강제희: 저는 아직 못 먹었습니다. Jaehee: I haven’t eaten yet.
☆☆ 한주민: 그 쪽으로 음식을 배달 시켜 주도록 하지. ☆☆ Jumin: I will have some food delivered to you.
강제희: 감사합니다... Jaehee: Thank you...
It’s not like he is brutally mean to her. Like, it’s not like he is going, “idgaf jaehee.” and to top if off, it isn’t like Jumin is overworking her while he is just playing around like what Zen is often saying.
Tumblr media
Jaehee: My schedule is as full as yours and I don’t know if that will be possible.
Jumin: I know.
The last screenshot I have for today is when as anon said, Jumin get’s really angry and goes “damn” for a while. My screenshot is a little after the part where he is saying damn.
Tumblr media
707: CEO/president’s emoticons
Jumin: =_=
707: He’s asking with him being all wealthy and whatnot, you would expect some manners but not in this chat lol.
Jumin: I’m angry.
MC: Why?
I think the English translation for the game is very similar! Well, except the cringy “Mr. Han.”
This is where I found Jaehee a bit ><;;;;; it is not like she hates Jumin’s guts and that she is not a member of the RFA anymore, but her leave was very abrupt and I don’t know how to explain it but if I were her and I really did want to quit.
I would have waited until he got another secretary tbh.
I mean, that’s just me.
Opinions do differ, but in my views and understanding, it’s not like Jumin was a terrible terrible boss in Korean work culture.
The last thing I want to talk about before I end this post is that Jaehee, I feel you girl, I really do.
She had a different dream, and we all know what that is if you reach the end of her route. I also am an avid believer pursuing what you want to do and enjoy what you are doing. Life is short after all.
But if I were in her shoes, even if I did per say, not enjoy my job, I would still go through with it because,
I have a job.
With unemployment as a huge issue here, I just can’t seem to wrap my head around Jaehee’s decisions sometimes, and I hate that I can’t because honestly, what she got, is my dream. A happy life doing what she loves.
I guess my brain thinks more like Jumin rofl.
Anyway, thank you for joining me in today’s analysis! Send in a request and I will get to them in the order of which they come in~^^
I may come back and add some more screenshots or examples, but for now goodbye~

707's Feelings for Rika - Korean vs. English Comparison
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hi nonny♡
Thanks for the request and the compliments in regards to my content hehe. You are awesome! ^^
It has been a while since I got a 707 request hehe.
You know, before you said anything, I totally forgot that Seven even said this in the chats =w= maybe it is because I brushed past it or maybe it is because I always missed that chat? Not sure, but I did go back and get some comparison screenshots just for this post so yay ^^
So do join me under the cut if you are interested!
Let’s bring up the conversation in question. Thanks for the details for the chatroom by the way!!! I always thank the people who actually have it prepared for me because omg, bless you.
Tumblr media
Okay, so here we go.
☆☆ MC: 혹시 리카 씨 좋아해요? Seol’s translation: Do you like Rika? MM translation: Do you have feelings for Rika?
☆☆ 707: 응. 좋아해요. Seol’s translation: Yes. I like her. MM translation: Yes, I do.
707: 내 목숨과 바꿔서라도 다시 살아올수 있다면… Seol’s translation: If I could switch my life with hers to bring her back… MM translation: If only I could give up my life to get her to come back…
707: 그럴 수만 있다면 좋겠어요… Seol’s translation & MM translation: It would be nice if only I could do that…
707: 저보다는 누나가 더 세상에 훨씬 도움 되는 사람이였거든요. Seol’s translation & MM translation: She did more good to the world than I would ever do.
707: 리카 누나가 없었다면 저도 없었을 거니까. Seol’s translation: If Rika noona wasn’t here, I wouldn’t be either. MM translation: If it weren’t for Rika, I wouldn’t be here right now.
Okay, so let me go ahead and say that I was not expecting the translation version to translate 좋아해요 to “do you have feelings for ___?”
Maybe it is me but I don’t find the MM translation version to be taken as a platonic context at all. I have not really been using or studying English that long so don’t take my word for it, but I have never heard that question to ever be taken in a different context. Of course, maybe in general, there are times where someone can claim that they didn’t mean it that way, but if I were personally asked that question, I would have taken it in the sense that the opposing person had romantic feelings for me.
While on the other hand, 좋아해요? would most accurately be translated as “do you like it, him, her, etc.” Of course you can also take this in the context of, “yes, I like her (romantically)” but I can still assert that more than likely, you can say that his feelings for Rika is a platonic like for her. Spiritual, but not physical.
That is how I took it and is probably why I don’t even remember this conversation LOL.
Next thing, about the “mother” thing. I am actually not sure which ending it is that is implied? I have a horrible memory ^^;;; but I can definitely say that even without that ending, I can sense that kind of nuance going on. Since Saeran does refer to Rika as 구원자님 or Savior.
Who knows, I may have to come back and edit this when I go back and review the endings. Maybe I haven’t even gotten them yet tbh. Still have to get all of Seven’s endings lolol…
All in all, I never really took this conversation or the relationship between 707 and Rika to be at all, romantic. When I played through the English version however, I took it in a more romantic context than platonic, so I understand how you feel in that aspect.
Same with Saeran. He went through brainwashing under Rika and proclaimed her to be his Savior. It was tragic for me, but in that sense, I can see this whole “mother” image considering they (Saeyoung and Saeran) never grew up with the love from their mother or father.
I am actually not sure if I even answered this correctly, so to the anon, I’m sorry if it was not fully answered, or answered the way you wanted the slightest, but this is how I took the question! If you need extra clarification, please let me know~ I will be glad to update this post for you.
With that said, I will actually check out all the endings I have for 707 to see what you are referring to because I have absolutely no memory of it s in seol stand for stupid.
If I find something notable in terms of differences, I will come back here and add it ^^
For now, see you next post!

Jumin's Feelings for Rika - Korean vs. English Comparison
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hi♡
ㅎㅎ안녕하세용^^ 저도 생각했을때는 너무 다행인것같아요~^^
Before I start, I want to also thank all the encouraging messages I had received for my decision to continue this blog! I really want to be able to continue posting, and to be able to create interesting, fun, and informative posts in regards to Mystic Messenger~ Thank you all for such kind words! ^^
Okay, so back to the subject at hand. Imma be honest. This made me on edge for a fictional character since Jumin is my favorite. I just ugh, I can’t. Love me instead.
But all that aside, I will go ahead and state that if you have not played Jumin’s route yet and do not want even the tiniest spoiler (for Jumin’s deep route and Christmas DLC) to ruin your gameplay, just completely ignore this post! It shouldn’t be too bad since I am just going to analyze the comparison of the Korean version to the English version in terms of how clarified it is that Jumin may or may not have feelings for Rika. Not the actual plot itself.
Please join me under the cut for a full on analysis for this issue!
So, to start, this is an interesting question because I also thought the same thing. In the Korean version, Jumin’s actual route implies that he had feelings for Rika. It was very puzzling for me considering the only time he talked about it was the last sentence of the visual novel that you sent (bless your soul, you saved me so much time and work ;w;) and also through references that he would “visualize Elizabeth the 3rd” as Rika, hence his attachment and love for said feline.
I also went ahead and went back further to see just where I decided that there might be misunderstandings or a possible foreshadowing of Jumin’s feelings towards Rika.
Let’s start with this.
Tumblr media
This was from the VN where RIka and Jumin are talking about why he doesn’t try to make any friends, express his feelings, etc.
그렇지 않아. It’s not like that.
넌 멋져, 리카. You’re cool, Rika. **so while literally translated to “cool” it can be taken in the context of wonderful, splendid, etc.
English translation: If I remember correctly, it was something like, “No Rika, you’re beautiful.”
This statement by Jumin does not really show much evidence (in the Korean version anyway) that he has feelings for Rika. This is something friends can say to each other, and considering that in the Korean and English version she asks Jumin if she is pretty, I feel there is some sort of misunderstanding. The English version does say beautiful, but the Korean version is much less so.
Okay, so with that out of the way, let’s move on to the mentioned VN during Day 10 that the anon kindly mentioned.
The questioning phrase at hand is,
Tumblr media
혹시 내가 V를 만나기 전에 널 먼저 만났다면… If I met you before I met V…
우리 둘이 잘 되었을까? Do you think we would have worked out?
English translation: If I met you before I met V…do you think we would have ended up together?
Okay, while the translation is a liiiiiittle bit different, roughly, that is what Rika does mean. That is there a possibility that could get together. In the Korean version though, it is slightly vague. The way she asks in Korean is a phrase that anyone can use in terms of if their relationship, whether it be friendship, family, or a significant other of sorts in terms of whether their relationship could have ended up better.
Now, the reason why I said virtually the English translation is passable is the fact that their relationship is already fine. So the only other context she could possibly mean is a romantic one.
In the end Rika says it is a joke after seeing Jumin’s face.
I would be too, because this is a very rude gesture on her part. I am not sure how it is in other cultures, but in Korea, especially since it is about a friend that Jumin trusts very much, that is not something to say. Also the fact that V introduced Rika to him to begin with.
Jumin responds with,
Tumblr media
그런 농담은 날 곤란하게 만들어. This kind of joke makes me feel complicated.
English translation: Jokes like that make me uncomfortable.
I am guessing his meaning of complicated would be more towards the way he thinks and acts throughout his route. And the way he sees Rika in Elizabeth the 3rd. Like in this statement,
Tumblr media
물론이야…너와 엘리자베스 3세는 닮았으니까 더 아껴줘야지. Of course…I treasure her even more so because you and Elizabeth the 3rd are alike.
English translation: Of course…more so since you and Elizabeth the 3rd kind of look alike.
Okay, I found this weird because how does Rika look like Elizabeth the 3rd the slightest lol. In Korean, he meant that the things he feels from Elizabeth the 3rd are the same with how he feels from Rika.
The last thing I wanted to discuss today was the big big thing that Jumin says to Elizabeth.
Tumblr media
☆☆ 너도 리카처럼…결국에는 똑같이 내가 가질수 없는 존재였던 걸지도 몰라. ☆☆ Like Rika…maybe you were just never supposed to me mine.
English translation: Rika, you…maybe you two were just never supposed to be mine.
This is where I was convinced that Jumin did have feelings for Rika. That is before the Christmas DLC, which I will talk about in a few.
I was thrown off guard with that last statement, and of course that is where the VN ends.
This issue gets brought up again when V comes over to take you back to the apartment. Jumin says,
Tumblr media
난 엘리자베스 3세를 보면 리카를 떠올려. When I look at Elizabeth the 3rd, I see Rika.
English translation: Whenever I see Elizabeth the 3rd, I remember Rika.
As Jumin says himself, it is not that simple. The way he thought of Rika was a lot more complicated and there was more to it that just the fact that Rika and V had gifted him with Elizabeth.
Tumblr media
리카는 살아생전 비뚤어진 내 마음을 볼 수 있었어. Rika despite how *살아생전(?) it means best translated to my whole life up til now* crooked/twisted I was, she could see the real me.
그 당시에는 몰랐지만 지금 생각해 보면 난 그녀에게 의지했어. I didn’t know then, but thinking about it now, I relied on her (Rika).
In short, he always thought fo Rika, looking at at Elizabeth. Which you guys may know already because the English version states that well enough.
The real question is though, did he have romantic feelings for Rika?
Let’s go over one more think before I personally answer that.
During the Christmas DLC, Jumin’s route concentrated more on his friendship with V. He even said in Korean that after V met Rika, he felt that his friend was taken away from him.
Conflicting much?
I would put up a screenshot but right now I am so exhausted guys, I’m sorry ㅠㅠ
Before this DLC, I thought that Jumin would explain more about his feelings for Rika that are still debatable, but it was more about his friendship with V. Which is fine but I did think this puts more confusion for me personally about how he did feel about Rika.
To conclude, I want to at least tell you guys what I got from my playthrough and I think that Jumin did have feelings for Rika, but not in the sense that it was actually romantic. A lot of the way he says his words in the Korean version were thankful that he had someone like Rika, but none of the words actually had his feelings invested in him.
He relied on her since she listened to him.
He found her to be a magnificent person.
He did say that he couldn’t have Rika, but that I found to be his misconception of what “having something” is. You can already see that he has a thing for the topic of “possession.” V and Rike were engaged and even with V, he couldn’t really “have” him too.
^I actually have no idea what I just blabbered. It made a lot more sense in my head. This is the struggles of translating >
I will probably come back to edit this later ^^
For now, I am going to nap because dioshhaghlsgahgijla
Thanks for reading!

Vanderwood's Gender - Korean vs. English Comparison
Tumblr media
Hi there♡
Thanks for sending in a request! This is also something that I have been wondering if anyone would send to me.
Vanderwood~
You know, I always found Vanderwood someone I can relate to lmao. I find myself saying the same things that Vanderwood does throughout 707’s route lol. Whenever I go to my lil’ bro’s place it is always a mess. I am always nagging and cleaning at the same time.
He’d always say, “아 누나 오랜만에 보는데 좋게 좀…^^” which is translated to like,  "Noona, it’s been a while since we last saw each other, let’s not…^^“
Then I would always smack him in the back of the head for even trying with me ^^
…I think I will go today and see how he’s doing ^^;;;; his place better be clean.
Enough of my blabber, let’s get on with the real deal, shall we? There should not be any big spoilers since the real thing I will be doing is just comparing and contrasting the English and Korean version for the identification of Vanderwood’s gender. I will be looking mostly in 707′s route.
So if you are interested, please join me under the cut ^^
Please note that although this is an analysis, there may be opinions that may differ or be consistent with mine! While I can give some sort of Korean background, for debatable topics, I do not represent all of the Korean minds for respective topics. Also, please excuse any errors or let me know if clarifications are needed, for English is not my first language! Thank you and enjoy!
Let’s begin with this,
Tumblr media
707 calls Vanderwood, 벤더우드 여사(yu-sa). Which is translated to Mrs. Vanderwood, pretty much.
So while the English translation version does refer to Vanderwood as “she,” “madam,” or “ma’am,” the Korean version only refers to Vanderwood as “여사.”
Well, Seol, that still doesn’t answer my question! Hehe, I will now proceed to translation the above picture and then give you what the English translation version provided us.
벤더우드: 여사는 무슨 얼어 죽을. Vanderwood: Okay, so let me explain. 여사는 무슨 = Mrs? Yeah right. 얼어죽을 = is literally translated to “freeze to death.” I am proud to say I say this a lot lolol. English translation: And quit calling me madam.
The English translation version is much nicer, I will tell you that ^^
Seven then replies by saying,
Tumblr media
벤더우드 남사다!
This is a pun. Let me explain.
여사 means Mrs. The “여” in 여사 is the character for female. Since Vanderwood got pissy about being called 여사, Seven changed the “여” character to “남” which is the character for male.
Hence the birth of the word, “남사.”
Needless to say, that is not really a word lolol. Hence why it is a pun.
Which is also why Vanderwood tells Seven to stop joking around.
Tumblr media
…그런 개그 좀 그만해라. …enough with that kind of humor. English translation: …stop joking around.
Tumblr media
Here we go, 서방님. That is the opposite of 여사!
Do you see in the above picture Seven refers to Vanderwood as 서방님? That is what is translated as Mr. or in another context, one's husband.
I didn’t snap a picture of the English translation version (and I’m too lazy to check it again), but if I were to translate it, I would say: Aigoo~ (a Korean thing similar to aww come on or something like that lol idk) mister~ wait just a little~ the girl’s heart/feelings is not ready yet. Other than that, is there a problem regarding the CCTV?
Important thing is though, Seven refers to Vanderwood, also as Mister.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
여사님. 한 말씀 드려도 되겠습니까? Madam. Can I say one thing? English translation: forgot to screenshot it LOL
지금 장난 그만해라…가방에 전기총 있다. Stop fooling around now…I have a taser in my bag. English translation: Didn’t snap this one either orz.
잔소리 또 하려는 거면 지겨워. If you’re going to nag, its getting old. English translation: I’m tired of your lectures. I got it this time lols.
Let’s talk about this for a second. So, nagging.
For a personal example, my mum likes to call my dad “류여사” when he gets in his lecture modes. 류 as in my family name, and 여사 for madam. This isn’t really a new thing, and nothing too unusual in my case. Especially considering Seven often calls Vanderwood 여사 when he is cleaning for Seven or when he nags him to do his work.
Last thing I wanted to show you. It is pretty important because I think the translation is misleading.
I will put the Korean and then the English right under it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The English translation says, “Hate that SHE’S always watching me.”
The Korean version says roughly, “I’m going crazy with Vanderwood always watching me.”
Not once in the game does (in the Korean version) call Vanderwood a she.
I thought this translation was a bit misleading.
To conclude, I am pretty sure Vanderwood is a guy lol. It is just a thing for Seven to call him 여사 when he gets in his nagging mode.
I think it is just the difference between Agent Vanderwood and Mary Vanderwood the 3rd.
Thanks for sending in the question!
If you all have made it this far, I will see you on the next post ^^

Mystic Messenger New Years Update Greetings Translations
Tumblr media
Hi everyone♡
I am feeling a little better from my recent tragedy of losing my original mysmess-seol account. I emailed tumblr and everything but no response really about what happened. It is crazy because I was able to get on just that morning but when I went back to check for messages, it was gone.
I will say that I am still really upset because the posts I made I put a lot of time into and it was a bit of a waste because a lot of them I had troubles with my English.
I deleted my previous post because it was very negative in my views. Just know that it was pretty much me being really pissy about the situation.
I want to be positive and just consider this a new slate and just start all over and make even better content than the old Seol.
I hope you guys can join me too and love my content as you guys once did.
I will start by reposting another refurbished version of the New Years translations. From there, I will start responding to any other translation or Korean concept/POV requests and so on. So for those who followed my old mysmess-seol account, please resend in your requests and I will get to them as soon as possible.
Thank you for your patience, and I hope to be the Seol that everyone once loved.
On another note, I had to relisten to these again because my old tumblr blog disappeared. My life...^^
Kill me...^^
Tumblr media
JUMIN
☆ 친척들이 언제 장가 가냐고 묻기 시작했어. 내년엔 확실히 대답할 수 있을것같은데. 그렇지? My relatives have started to ask me when I will get married. Next year I think I can give a definite answer. Right?
☆ 새해가 밝았어...올 한해 좋은 일만 있길. The New Year is bright...I hope only good things happen this year.
☆ 유성이와 루시엘이 내게 세벳돈을 뜯으러 올 것같군. I think Yoosung and Luciel are going to come to me for New Years money.
Before I continue, I would like to explain that for New Years (which is this weekend by the way) is a very popular holiday for people like (in this case) Yoosung and Seven because what essentially happens is that you bow to typically your elders and they give you money!
This is how the bow goes for both male and female.
Tumblr media
Welp, sorry Juju bby, but you gotta pay up ><;;;
ZEN
Zen's last one took the longest again fml. Zen why.
☆ 올 한해 새해복 많이 받아. I hope you have a Happy New Year this year. Essentially, while this sounds repetitive in English, while 새해 많이 받아 means Happy New Year, it is literally translated to "I hope much luck comes to you this year."
☆ 올해에도 작품 많이 들어와서 무대에 많이 섰으면 좋겠어. I wish that a lot of work comes in this year so that I can stand on many stages.
☆ 새해네. 내년엔 같이 해돋이 보러가자~! It's the New Year. Next year, let's go and watch the sunrise~!
YOOSUNG
☆ 새해 복 많이 받으세요. Happy New Year.
☆ 까치까치 설날은 어저께고요. 우리우리 설날은 오늘이래요~ I am sure you guys all heard this one because our cutie Yoosung is singing! He is singing a New Years nursery rhyme of sorts! It is literally translated to, "Magpie Magpie's New Year was yesterday. Our our New Years is today~" A Korean magpie is our bird, and it symbolizes good news!
☆ 저도 롤롤 캐시탬 사게 주민이형한테 세배할래요. I want to bow to Jumin hyung so that I can buy LOLOL cash items.
The bowing custom I mentioned above for money haha. Oh, Yoosung~^^
707
☆ 707의 새해 목표 우리 베이비 타고 세계 일주! My New Year's goal is to go on a trip around the world on my babies!
☆ Happy New Year. He says it in English ^^
☆ 스포츠카를 하나 더 사고싶은데...주민이형 한테 절해야겠다. I want to buy another sports car...I should go bow to Jumin hyung.
Seven too ^^;;;;;
JAEHEE
☆ 새해 복 많아 받으시길. I hope you have a Happy New Year.
☆ 올 한해 잘 부탁 드립니다. This year I hope for your kind cooperation.
☆ 나이를 먹었으니 피부관리에 더 신경써야겠어요. Since I am getting older, I should probably concentrate/pay attention to skin care more.
I feel you, Jaehee...><;;
UNKNOWN
☆ 새해 복 많이 받아...라고 할줄알았어?! Happy New Year...is that what you think I'd say?!
☆ 오늘은 이렇게 마음껏먹고 놀다가 어떻게 될지 모른다..? If you relax and play like that today, you never know what's going to happen..?
☆ 신년이라는게 의미가 있나? Is there even a meaning to a New Year?
V
☆ Happy New Year He says it in English ^^
☆ 단순히 나이만 먹는게 아니라 사람의 인성이 쌓인다고 전 생각해요. 올해엔 더 성숙한 자신이 되야겠죠. It is not just about getting older but I think a person's character builds up. This year we should be a more mature person.
☆ 새해엔 부디 사고가 일어나지 않길 바래요. I hope there are no accidents this New Year.
V always makes me cry. I wish I had a big brother like V.
Oldest in family.
RIKA
I am still not a fan of Rika and I still heard her voice the most the second time around orz.
☆ 새해 복 많이 받으세요. Happy New Year.
☆ 올해는 다치는 사람없이 모두가 원하는 걸 이룰수 있길. I hope this year that no one gets hurt and that everyone gets what they wish for.
☆ 우리 신년에도 파티를 열까? 다 같이 모이는거야! Should we have a party for the New Year? Everyone can get together!
And there we have it! This took a lot shorter than the first trial but still. I am very sad when I think about how my old blog is just gone. I can't believe that it had only been so short of a time I had that blog and already it is gone.
But I am generally a positive person, and I want to take this as some message to myself that I just need to make better content. So yes. It is a shitty way to start over, but I am going to make the best of it.
All the people that have sent me requests in my old account, please resend them if I have not answered them yet so far ^^
Also, thank you for the kind messages everyone.
새해 복 많이 받으세요~

Religious Topics in Mystic Messenger - Korean vs. English Comparison
Tumblr media
Hey there lovelier anon♡
Interesting question! I was personally really surprised to hear about this subject pop up in Mystic Messenger myself! I will be glad to talk to you about it ^^
I can actually relate to Jumin a little. Going to church when I was a kid. Typical Sunday school kind of thing. Played the piano for services for 8 years. It was pretty hectic.
In this context, I feel really similar in terms of how situations go because like Jumin, I used to go to church as a child, but not so much anymore now that I am 22/23. Idk if I should go by Korean age or not.
Anyways, please join me under the cut to discuss the religious topics that the anon requested above! Religion could be a sensitive topic so for those who don’t feel comfortable with said topic, read with caution ^^
So, let’s go ahead and just point out the religious beliefs that each RFA member and ex member has.
Jumin: 모태 기독교  Christianity Zen: 무교  No religion Yoosung: 무교  No religion 707: 카톨릭 Catholic Jaehee: 카톨릭 Catholic V: 모태 기독교 > 카톨릭 Christianity > Catholic Rika: 카톨릭 Catholic
Okay, so it is pretty obvious that they do talk about religion in the Korean version as well. It was pretty funny for me in a sense because I kinda know what it is like, like I said above the cut, to be in the shoes of Jumin in this case.
But, before I talk about you know, personal or Korean takes on religion, I will go ahead and compare and contrast the Korean version of this game with the English version.
The translations for this chatroom is pretty precise and if there are mistakes, they aren’t too bad to the point where meanings are different and so on. I just kinda want to use a screenshot or two maybe to explain the answer in regards to Korean religious statistics.
I will be honest, I was very very shocked when I read that Jaehee, 707, Rika, and V were Catholic or that Catholicism was even brought up. Not saying that there aren’t any Catholics in Korea at all, but it’s not as common as how the game puts it off to be.
In my case, not saying this for every Korean here obviously, but I usually go with 50/50. Christianity vs. Buddhism, they are the main religions in Korea, after all. Well, if you have religious beliefs. While the other case is no religious beliefs, which is actually a higher percentage than you think.
Now, before I get any more serious, I want to talk about this,
Tumblr media
MC: Do you have a reason you are Christian? English translation: Is there a reason why?
Jumin: The neighborhood I lived in when I was little, half the kids went to church. English translation: Half the kids in my neighborhood went to church when we’re little.
Yoosung: Ah... English translation: Oh...
Yoosung: That’s right hyung, you were from a rich neighborhood. English translation: You grew up in a rich neighborhood.
Jumin: Statistically, children from conservative homes/families have a religion. English translation: same as above.
Jumin: It was natural for me too. English translation: same as above.
Okay, so let’s talk about that. Without getting super personal about my life because who cares lol I also grew up in quite a conservative home. Not rich, but conservative. Of course even though there are stats for that, I am living, breathing evidence that I went to church whether I liked it or not.
I am sure that may be the case in other countries as well? In Korea, definitely
Okay, so this question I don’t really think any other screenshots are necessary because well, the translation that it has is pretty accurate. I’ll answer the last question you had about Korea and religion.
In Korea, as introduced a bit above, it is more than likely that a person is either, Christian, Buddhist, or no religious beliefs. Then there are the other tiny percentages of other beliefs. These days, I feel that there are more and more people who are like Yoosung that either never thought about it or like Zen who don’t really... care.
In my personal experience in living life pretty much since I lived in Korea my whole life, I have met a lot of different kinds of people. Most of the people I converse with or get along with all have some sort of believe. Although, they don’t really go to church.
So, pretty much, a Jumin. Either busy or just don’t go, but do believe in some sort of religion.
As for me? Well, I don’t really have anything to hide. I am kinda pretty much like a Jumin as well. I don’t really go to church anymore because of my busy schedule.
Well, this question, I really don’t know if I answered it right? I was actually feeling like I’m walking on eggshells for some reason. Maybe because it could be a sensitive topic for some? But I do hope I gave you some insight on religious beliefs in Korea.

Jumin’s Day 10, 1AM Call - Korean vs. English Comparison
Tumblr media
Hello all.
Sorry for my lack of posting for the past few days. To be honest, I went through so much stuff that I just don’t know how to handle right now. I also went through course registration for my upcoming semester and I filled 22 credits. Kill me.
Without getting too personal, just know that I am slowly getting back to the way things were going and I hope to keep it that way ^^
Also, in my little unannounced absence, I got a lot more requests to go through! Wow! I can’t believe I got so much interest from all of you guys~ thanks so much! The anon may know this, but while I usually answer questions/requests in the order of which they are submitted (minus the personal questions), I went through them all and found this one to be the quickest to gather screenshots and answer/debate. I am a bit short on time because of current affairs, so I please hope that you guys understand that I am answering this one first!
This call is by far my favorite call in history. Why is this man so irresistible? My love for Jumin Han is just out of this world. In all my 23 years of living, he is the most charismatic character I have ever come across, I swear.
Please join me under the cut if you would like to hear my analysis (more like opinion) of this breath-taking phone call ^^
Okay, so let’s talk. Nonny! You said there were four options, and to be honest, I don’t even know if I unlocked all the options…if I remember correctly, I only got three? So I am sorry in advanced if I didn’t get all the ones you wanted ㅠㅠ when I replay Jumin’s route when I have the time, I will check out the other choice (really want to know rn tbh…) and edit this post, but for now, I will just do the three that I have.
Also, note that this call is preeeeetty similar in terms of how they translated it compared to my translations so I probably won’t post as many screenshots. But the ways I interpreted could be different, but more than an analysis, this is more about how I perceived and how much I enjoyed this call, because lol, I did…♡
So we start off with Jumin sighing as soon as he answers the call. To which the English version says, “God…” which I don’t actually know why it does?
The Korean version just has it written out as it is which is, “하…” (Ha…)
He asks why you are up and calling him at this hour since he was sure he told you to sleep. Also to stop fidgeting and whatnot. To which you have two choices.
Tumblr media
Choice 1: 그럼 머리 쓰다듬어 줘요, 잠이 안와요. My translation & translation version are the same: Then stroke my hair, I can’t sleep.
Choice 2: 후~ 이렇게 바람 부는 건 괜찮아요? My translation & translation version are the same: Hoo~ can I blow wind like this?
I am a 여우같은년 (fox like simply put, bitch lol) and I blew wind to him first buuuuuut, I’ll go with the stroke my hair choice first ^^;;;;
He says something like telling you to come closer and proposes a deal. He will stroke your hair if he can feel with his body that you are closer to him. I’m not posting a screenshot because my translation is pretty similar and only has minor differences so it would seem a bit pointless.
Tumblr media
Choice 1: 그런 게 어딨어요? 그냥 쓰다듬어주세요. What is that? Just stroke my hair. Translation version: Don’t be like that. Just stroke my hair.
Choice 2: 그럼 그냥 자겠습니다. Then I will just go to sleep. Translation version: I’ll just go to sleep now.
I know this man. I think we all know this man. He is a businessman and without even thinking, I just said at first in my playthrough that I would go choice two because lol, I could already predict that he would lecture me about dealing with a businessman buuuut, let’s start with choice one.
Lol, and well, this choice was really boring. It was boring because I was right lolol. He said something really similar to my business professor and I was very usgohiahp about the choice. I mean, he’s right, and honestly I used this material for a business meeting simulation and got brownie points (is that the right expression? lolol) but still. I want to make this man tempted LOL.
Let’s go the choice two.
Tumblr media
Hmm? That, I don’t like. Don’t turn your back on me. I don’t want to miss a single moment of your sleeping face/appearance(?).
Lol, Jumin, what was that you said about your wonderful business philosophy? ( ͡͡ ° ͜ ʖ ͡ °)
After that, he says something about how he wants you to hold your chin up and that even if it is uncomfortable, it can’t be helped because he is selfish and wants to see your face and omg i was red while relistening to this call pls help.
He also says how we should talk responsibility for being so nice to him and making him the way he is right now and uh, yeah, I’ll take responsibility anyday. Take me now pls.
I’ll talk about how the call ends for all the choices soon at the end, but for now, let’s go back to the very first choices we came across in this call.
We will blow air and lol, yeah. It’s my favorite. It was like some crazy ASMR shit and I get goosebumps every time.
You tempt him and he was briefly about to since he was contemplating to himself whether he should keep his cool or not.
If you chose this choice then you all know he wants to teach you a lesson and blow into your ear to proof how sensitive of an area it is and to feel how tempted he was and lol, I died.
I live by myself and the apartment next to me came running thinking I was in trouble. He thinks I’m crazy now lolol. It was like 1 in the morning. Sorry 오빠♡
Okay, so this is where I can’t for the love of God remember if there was only one choice or two. Because nonny said four choices, I am going to assume I didn’t get one here. Please let me know if that is the case =w=
Tumblr media
I understand…I won’t do it.
LOL, if there were two choices, I don’t know what came across me to choose that one because I would have been shook and just jumped the man, but apparently I chose this one haha.
Tumblr media
It’s too late to regret it now. Since you started it…hang up and look forward to it.
I think the English translation version is very similar to mine. Too lazy to check lolol.
Then as we all know, he wants to hang up since it is “only getting in the way” and the wonderful, “거기 가만히 있어…” (stay still).
Man, the way he says that made me feel like I was going crazy. I could not sleep that night LOL.
Okay, so your debate! What did they do after that phone call?
Goooood question! ( ͡°⁄ ⁄ ͜⁄ ⁄ʖ⁄ ⁄ ͡°)
Well, I am definitely not an innocent mind lolol. I don’t know how to put it without sounding extremely creepy but I mean Jumin did say to look forward to what was going to happen after hanging up and I mean, my mind was already ready to pounce that man, sooooooo.
As the MC of MM in my own mind and imagination, lol. We can all assume how I think and they aren’t innocent thoughts. shoot me.
For one, he is a grown 27 (26 for outside of Korea) year old man and if anything, MC me, you, us asked for it if we were pretty much testing his patience and teasing him like that ;)
A lot of you guys know how I feel about Jumin and the topic of sexual experience because I talked about it in my old account. There were many implications in the Korean version, and frankly, the world realistically isn’t just some rainbows and unicorn thing or some magical shoujo experience where love is always innocent, as we all know.
Which is why I like this game. I mean, yes there are fictional aspects about it that definitely is too good to be true, but it isn’t so much where I can’t play it. I am usually not a fan of otome games because of many reasons. I could feel 심규혁 (Yoosung’s voice actor) in his free talk about how he was trying not to sound “오글오글” (I think it means closest to cheesy?). I think even with some cheesy aspects, I could relate to a lot of these characters because even if they are in a fictional game, they all have a pain of sorts and it isn’t always happy-go-lucky.
That was a random tangent.
So simply put, to give my answer to this debate, yeah, I’m pretty sure something went down, at least in my imagination and that is how I want to think of it ( ̄▽ ̄)ノ
I have my fantasies too (^ //// ^)
I want to hear what you guys think? What was your reaction to this famous call of Jumin’s? Either leave a comment or send an ask below~^^

Prologue "Error" - Korean vs. English Comparison
Tumblr media
Hey♡
So this is an interesting question because I started a whole new game just to see this for myself because I never chose that choice in any of my countless playthroughs. Which is weird because I replayed this game so many times to get each ending. Well, darn. So before anything, thank you nonny for sending in this request! Even I learned something new! ^^
Okay, so on to the post! This will be pretty brief since it is a brief question and the comparison itself, I feel that in the Korean version, it is maybe a bit more natural. I am actually not sure. I think I am only saying that is more natural because I play this game in Korean lol...but either way, if you are interested please join me under the cut.
I needed to started a new game anyway. I need to get all the call options for the RFA members’ phone calls. Whoooo.
Please join me under the cut for my explanation for this MysMess prologue “error.”
Okay! So let's begin!
Let me go ahead and put up the screenshot of the conversation in question.
Tumblr media
So, as nonny requested, I will start with when MC says, "저 이만 돌아가볼래요;;" which means virtually "I want to go back;;"
Next, we have the responses by Unknown. I accidentally deleted my screenshot of the English translation version so I will just translate it myself.
응? 안 돼. Hm? No.
☆☆ 좀 있으면 존잘남을 ☆☆ In a bit, 존잘(closest meaning to hot) guy...
☆☆ 아...오타야 ☆☆ Oh...error/mistake/typo
So just a cool tip for Korean learners, 존잘남. It is pretty much a combination of three Korean words.
존나 + 잘생긴 + 남자.
존나 lol means fucking. 잘생긴 means good looking. 남자 means man. You can see what it means haha. So yes, hot definitely is the same message but I feel it is a little weaker than the Korean version.
Okay, so the next thing. 오타. 오타 does mean typo. But sometimes it can be taken in the context of, "Oh, I made a mistake," but in all honestly nonny, I was also wondering just what his "typo" really would be. I mean, what else could you say?
I could think of maybe something that would be said other than 존잘남 but I don't know what else could replace hottie?
I would like to see it as him making a mistake, but yeah. I’m with you nonny haha.
So in short, I could definitely say I was confused too haha. But like I said, maybe it is because I am a native Korean and understand Korean more than English, it just seemed more fluid to me.
But he ain’t wrong though. Definitely hot guys ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
This post is really short. Sorry about that. I might as well leave a little message below just for future references regards to my posting schedule from now on.
I am hoping to get 2-3 posts in a week. I still do reply to private messages so if you want to get a hold of me for any reason at all, feel free to message me ^^
If you haven’t read my announcement from yesterday that I deleted this morning, I am prepping for my school semester starting soon and actually have to go to Japan in a week or so for internship stuff. Exciting =3=
So I may be busy, but I will still be active no worries~
I will probably have a post ready tomorrow~^^ Working on it right now as we speak!
Until next time!
