Reading up a bunch of myths for the Apollo fic and... what's the deal with him and the metamorphosed lovers?

Like Kyparrius apparently becomes the cypress tree, but the cypress also exists before/at the time of Apollo's birth. Hyacinthus becomes the greek hyacinth (the iris) but irises are also one of the flowers that Persephone collects?

Even if we take it that Kyparrius was metamorphosed into a cypress tree, instead of the cypress tree; and Hyacinthus was an iris instead of the iris, there is no way to explain the spring.

Castalia is either a nymph that fled from Apollo's pursuit and turned into a well, or was the feminized name of a son of Apollo (how do you make the jump from unwilling lover to son😭), or just existed presumably even before Apollo was born??

I don't want to discount any myth/story simply because it came later, but dear gods. The writers are not making it easy for me.
