The Basics of Drawing a Tree 🌳 . I’ve been drawing trees for almost 30 years now and I can still remember the first time I was prompted to draw one. It was in my 4th grade art class and I couldn’t figure it out. Our teacher called it the study of making parentheses and v’s. And for the love of me I couldn’t figure it out. Not until the 8th grade and I was doodling while I was supposed to be watching Jason and the Argonauts did I finally get it. 😅 . The parentheses is the shape of the trunk. The v’s will become your branches. The more v’s you’ll add the more branches you are creating. This same method can be used for creating roots as well. I added some process shots to create a visual of what I’m saying. . It’ll take some time and practice but before you know it you’ll be creating your own lil’ trees 🌲! . I hope this helped a bit. I like to illuminate my works as much as possible. My underpainting palette varies but when opting for a relatively monochromatic palette I like to use a combination of raw umber, burnt sienna and burnt umber for a underpainting palette. I’m doing things slightly different with the usage of neutral gray as well. We’ll see how it turns out.
