The first time Byleth hugs her, Edelgard can’t move.

It’s just instinct. In the dungeon, when they held her down, when they cut through her flesh, she knew she had to stay still. Moving meant more pain.

So, when she feels Byleth’s arms around her, she stays still and holds her breath.

Part of her, though...just wants to grab her jacket and pull her closer. Her hands start shaking, caught between fear and need.

Then Byleth pulls back slowly. “I’m sorry”. Three words: enough to break the stall.

Edelgard’s hands dash forward, while she takes half a step towards her teacher, and her arms wrap around her waist, tightly.

“Stay. Please.”

This whole thread is adorkable. 😁

Things that warm my heart whenever I see them, Edelgard edition:

- Her being excited at the mere thought of one day having the ability to relax and live life carefree - and eat as many sweets as she wants

- Whenever she calls Byleth out for smiling

- The way she mockingly mimics someone’s voice and mannerisms to get her point across (Ferdinand, Hubert, etc.)

- All her supports that have that chirpy, upbeat instrumental of Edge of Dawn

- Her face when Caspar throws her under the bus after Byleth’s return

- The way she laughs when she speaks to Byleth post-time skip, as if merely seeing Byleth around makes her happy

- That, upon being called “cute”, she somehow becomes even cuter because of how she sputters and attempts to angrily respond to that (all I can think of are all those memes of something tiny and precious with big text saying “fear me!”)

- That half-laugh, half-sob as Byleth comes back to life in her arms after defeating Rhea (because that’s the first time anyone she’s ever loved came back after she thought she lost them)
