SAMPLE PARA:
X-23 wasn’t used to contemplating what she wanted, only what she did not want, and how to avoid what she did not want. When Wolverine asked if she wanted to go to the Xavier Institute, she said nothing, because she did not know. When he asked what she wanted from the Denny’s menu a few hours later, she knew she did not want pancakes or french toast, so she quickly chose something that was neither of those things, only for the waiter to ask her which of six different ways she wanted her eggs cooked. She felt her heart rate climb, her mind and body working together to force her into a quick reaction, but this was not a fight, flight, or freeze situation; it was eggs. No sound came out of her mouth. X-23—mutant, martial artist, polyglot, acrobat, tracker, and former assassin—had been stymied by egg preparation.
The awkward silence stretched on for seconds that felt much longer to X-23. The waiter seemed to give up on the young woman answering for herself and looked to Logan for an answer instead. “How does your kid like her eggs?”
“I’m not his—! I’m not a—!” X-23 interrupted, launching to her feet with a speed that jostled the table, splashing coffee onto the placemats, making the silverware clang, and causing the waiter to jump a couple feet back with his hands palm outwards in front of his chest to show nonaggression. Her glare softened as she saw the wide eyes of a child sitting in a nearby booth, watching, and she realized that this was a bad place for claws, and that attacking a waiter was a good way to change her destination from school to prison.
“Whoa, I’m sorry Miss, I just thought—you know—didn’t mean any harm,” he stammered.
X-23 was shaking with the effort it took to control herself as she sat stiffly back down. The restaurant was quiet, except for the soft rock playing on the speakers, the background noise of the kitchen equipment, and the oblivious child blowing bubbles in his milk with a straw, but there was never truly silence with her senses. She could hear the waiter’s heartbeat and smell his nervous perspiration.
“I want them like this,” she said tersely, stabbing her pointer finger at a photo on the menu. She did not know how she wanted her eggs, but she knew she did not want someone to speak for her, or assume she could not speak for herself. She did not want to be treated like a child, nor as a weapon, although she did not know what choices that left her with. A person, she supposed—Laura. “I did not mean to alarm you… Jeremy,” she said, glancing at his name tag.
Jeremy smiled, relieved and unnerved. “Sunny side up, no problem, Miss.”
“Laura,” she supplied.
She liked the sound of that, however unfamiliar it was to her lips. She did not know if she deserved the name considering what she did to the woman who gave it to her—Sarah, Mother—but she knew she did not want to think about her right now.
When the waiter returned with their orders, her brown eyes lit up at the sight and smell of the skillet, with steak, peppers, potatoes, cheese, and eggs. She didn’t recall ever getting to eat something that smelled so good, and dug in eagerly, until she reached the eggs. Her face contorted dramatically with repulsion at the slimy texture as she ate them, but she chose to think of it as a lesson learned. Laura Kinney did not know how she liked her eggs cooked, but she did not like them sunny side up.
HOW DID YOU HEAR ABOUT THIS RP? Clicked on a para from AXRPG I wanted to show someone, and saw the page linking to this group instead. Also, Breezus, even though I only saw the message yesterday. #awkward

Lunch Break || Open
Matt slowly tapped along the sidewalk to work, careful to not antagonize his wounds. Foggy would ask questions, Matt knew, but there wouldn’t be much to explain, since Foggy already knew Matt’s secret. But Matt needed someone to talk to. This HYDRA thing was on his mind, and the man’s words confirmed it. Matt knew it was a big organization, and why would they tell a lowly hit man their names? It was all too easy.
At work Matt realized that there was very little to no information on HYDRA, except something about this guy named Steve Rogers and the Red Skull. There wasn’t very much other than those two. It had something about an organization called SHIELD, but Matt found that SHIELD was invaded by HYDRA from the inside.
He was on his lunch break around noon-ish, getting a sub from the local convenience store. There weren’t many places to sit; he could sense the people around him, so he began to walk out of the store when someone called out in his direction.

Good afternoon, New York. I’m Shaun Cleary here to deliver breaking news to you right here out of Manhattan.
In the wake of high tension and a series of riots, what now appears to have been triple homicide, rather than an impromptu occurrence has resulted in the death of three of our most beloved superheroes. News recently broke that members of The Fantastic Four were killed early this morning--the sole survivor of the quartet being Ben Grimm, better known as The Thing.
The now deceased three were siblings Johnny and Sue Storm famously known as The Human Torch and Invisible Woman, as well as group leader Dr. Reed Richards or Mr. Fantastic. The Fantastic Four--namely Dr. Richards--had gained unfavorable attention recently when an experiment gone wrong out of The Baxter Building resulted in region-wide repercussions. He did, however, remedy the situation, restoring a level of normalcy for New York City.
Details of the murders have yet to be determined. Given the series of attacks stemming from incidents, accidents and the Prop-One controversy, we can only guess at this time that that had been the reason for the four being targeted. As The Fantastic Four were superheroes who were accidentally gifted their powers, neither side of the Prop-One issue has necessarily tried to make sense of the four being targeted at this time. It had been widely known that Dr. Richards had been attempting to concoct a remedy to his and his colleague’s situation, but in the meantime, the quartet had been attempting to use their abilities to assist the government and on occasion, other superheroic groups.
Following news and confirmation of the deaths, we received a statement from The Friends of Humanity, calling for supporters of Prop-One to suspend their rallies for the time being. Hopefully, this may quell a response of protest in The City for the first time in nearly a month. For many, however, this is the first they may be learning of this news. I would like to take this moment to remind our viewers that regardless of the protests and riots that have been occurring, the November election season will determine whether or not this proposition becomes law. The most effective thing you can do going forward is to vote.
Mr. Grimm has been been relocated from The Baxter Building to an undisclosed location for the time being while the New York Police Department proceed with their investigation into the incident. The only statement we have from him is that he will not be continuing hero work in any capacity. The future of the Baxter Building’s top floors that were customized for The Fantastic Four, is currently unknown. Residents of The Baxter Building are said to be locked out from accessing those floors. We have been informed that a private ceremony is being held for all three heroes by SHIELD, with allies of The Fantastic Four already requesting to take part.
Mourning for the heroes has already begun on social media as well, from local citizens, celebrities around the country and fellow superheroes worldwide. The mayor is calling for flags to be lowered to half-mast around New York City and, in light of this somber situation, the push for a superhero-honoring holiday is said to be close to approval, pending a signature from District Attorney Ivy Walker’s desk. The mayor’s office has already given their support for a citywide heroes holiday to be on the calendar this summer, in light of recent events. If signed in, the holiday will be known as Heroes Day with plans for a parade and concert-festival to be held, celebrating heroes--from superhero teams such as The Avengers and The X-Men, to first responders like the NYPD and NYFD, to the fallen whom we wish to commemorate such as Peter Parker--better known as Spider-Man and now, The Fantastic Four.
Along with the new urgency for a superhero holiday, the same group who initiated the petition, The Superfanatics, is already said to be organizing a memorial for the public to celebrate and mourn the heroics of what once had been The Fantastic Four.
On behalf of The Bugle, we send our condolences to Mr. Grimm and those closest to The Fantastic Four.

Fading Embers
Tagging: Pietro Maximoff and John Allerdyce [With mentions of Erik Lehnsherr, Wanda Maximoff, and Lorna Dane] Location: The Bar Without A Name, Hell’s Kitchen || [Anti-Mutant Rally, Washington D.C.] Time Frame: 03.07.2015, evening || [05.19.2007] General Notes: Snapshot Musings Prompt #4, Semi-Flashback to Pietro’s Brotherhood days and some present day second quessing
“Of course you do.” Pietro huffed, all but glaring at the other mutant. The only reason the speedster even agreed to meet with the other was because he owed him. As reluctant as he was to admit it now, John-or Pyro as he preferred-was Pietro’s best friend.
But that was a long time ago.
"Get up, Quicksilver!” The voice sounded distant to Pietro, who was bent at the waist, a hand covering his ear, which was still ringing from the explosion caused by his fire-happy companion.
When the Brotherhood broke up a rally, they really broke up a rally.
“I’m fine.” He pushed Pyro away, clearly more than a little annoyed with how things turned out. This was supposed to be a simple mission. And then Pyro went off with that damn temper of his. “What the hell were you thinking?”
“What?” His response wasn’t sarcastic, he was genuinely confused by Pietro’s question. “We wanted to draw attention to the Brotherhood and show that we wouldn’t stand for these.”
“Yeah, I think you got our point across.” Pietro pointed out with a slightly concealed grin, standing straight as he spoke. “You also just got the attention of every cop in the state.” As if on cue, the once distant sound of sirens now glaringly loud as two cop cars pulled to a stop before the two, four cops getting out, guns trained on the two, order being barked to ‘freeze’ and ‘put their hands in the air’.
Eyes met as the two looked at each other, asking what they didn’t need to say aloud.
Contrary to popular belief, Pietro wasn’t the type to run from his problems. And Pyro was too...angry to just leave without picking some sort of fight.
“I hate it when you drag me into these.” The silver-haired teen sighed loudly, one foot moving behind the other ever so slightly as Pyro moved to raise his hands, an unabashed grin crossing the other’s features.
“No, you don’t.” The instant Pyro’s lighter activated, Pietro darted towards the closest cop.
Even now, Pyro was still flicking that lighter of his, not that he ever used it in any fights. He was too afraid it would break or something.
Despite the open seat, Pietro elected to stand, arching his brow slightly as he stared the other down, patience wearing thin. “Listen, I can’t exactly risk staying here for too long, especially with you. So, can we get this done?” That earned a mild glare from the pyrokinetic.
“You gonna take a seat?” The two simply stared at each other, but after a moment and a sigh, he moved to sit, Pyro pushing a glass towards the speedster. “So-you and SHIELD, huh?”
“Don’t act surprised. I’ve been with them for years, John.”
“I know. But-you don’t belong with them. You know that.” There was a slight twitch of Pietro’s brow.
“Did my father send you here?”
“No, actually. As far as I know,Erik doesn’t even know I’m here.”
“Then why are you here?”
“Because you’re my friend.” That was news to Pietro. “And friends look out for each other.” Pyro leaned back in his chair, setting the lighter on the tabletop. “Look what’s happened since you’ve been with SHIELD, you’ve been kidnapped, put through hell, and for what? So you can play hero? You and I both know that you’re so much better at working against the government than working with them.”
“That might’ve been the case back then, but things have changed Pyro.”
“Have they?” Teeth gritted together as Pietro’s eyes narrowed. “You don’t belong with SHIELD, you belong with the Brotherhood. With Erik and Lorna. Your family, in case you’ve forgotten. Family comes above all else. You and Wanda taught me that.” Silence hung between the two, a silence that Pietro was perfectly content to let go on. “The Brotherhood is your family. And even after everything, Erik is willing to let you come back. You and Wanda both.” Sighing, Pyro grabbed the lighter as he stood up, casting a glance around the bar. “Just think about it, alright?”
Then he left, leaving Pietro alone with conflicting thoughts that he didn’t want to deal with.

Eva was so tired she just couldn’t run any further.  She stopped and leaned against a wall, her chest heaving with the effort of breathing.  She could still see the bright blue glow of the bubbles she had created but before she could move any further she heard a voice.  Turning to face the advancing figure she said, “are you... talking to me?”

Remy walked out of the Starbucks down his block and made his way back to his apartment. Looking at the string of messages waiting for him in his inbox, he dreaded walking back into his apartment to reply to all of them. Being so engrossed in his phone, he almost collided with the individual in front of him. “Oh sorry, let me just get out of your way”.

An open letter to my sister:
Illyana,
Today I missed you more than ever. It’s my “unbirthday” as you used to call it. While I was obsessed with Robocop, you were obsessed with Alice. Strange combination but it worked for the two of us. I’ll have you know that I’m doing alright on my unbirthday. I’ve met someone amazing. His name is Julian and he’s my best friend. Yes, your brother actually makes friends. I’ve made a few here and there. Be proud. Don’t roll your eyes for they will stay that way. The only one that knows about my birthday is Julian. It’s not big deal anyway. 26 seems kind of old to be worried about parties and get togethers. Maybe I’m just trying not to care too much that you’re not here or mom or dad. I wish you’d call. Even for a minute. I wish you’d call. I sold a painting for a good amount of money. Things are looking up. I’m still as patient as ever and that is probably why I hold on to the hope that someday I will see your face again. I’ve seen on those Oprah type shows that people get reunited through the internet. If a letter gets enough “shares” or “likes” Nevermind. I miss you, sister. I wish you’d call.
Love,

Hell’s Kitchen Block Party Ideas
A simple question you might ask yourself to inspire ideas for the Block Party event might be: What brings your character to the block party?
Consider what you can snowball from whatever the answer or answers may be to that question and use it for starter ideas--oneliner or para. Some possible answers to that question are offered below. Regardless of what you end up doing for the event, please don’t leave your fellow RPers hanging with starters!
If you already see several starts on the dash, rather than adding to that, take the time to reply to what’s already there! Likewise, if you’ve made a starter, don’t simply wait for someone to reply to your starter. Get something going with someone else who might have also put out a starter.
Most importantly, have fun with this! Utilize not only your fellow RPers in the group, but some of the characters on the NPC page would/could likely be at the Block Party as well (in uniform, in street clothes or otherwise).
A chance to stir up trouble | Noticing trouble being caused:
Personal resentment toward Stark
General opposition toward the festivities/merriment from others
Paying off others to cause problems
A handful of members from The Morlocks sabotage booths, deflate the bouncy house, discretely taint a food vendor’s products, etc.
Business troubles arise “mysteriously”
Intentional bad press is made for Stark Industries
Work Purposes:
Press coverage (independent blogging/photography, work for The Daily Bugle)
A covert (or overt) SHIELD assignment to help assure other’s safety
Self-bestowed duties to be a watchful eye for others
Performing as a musical act
Networking/business promotion opportunities
They’re obligated to work at a vendor booth for their job (handing out flyers/pamphlets, selling product, etc.)
Food/games:
Making bets &/or thinking of challenges for fun amongst friends to try a certain food/foods (something incredibly spicy, eating something deep fried, trying something unusual from their everyday diet)
Playing games with friends &/or coworkers--for fun, or to display one’s competitiveness
Seeking to win a prize (for themselves or someone else)
A chance to be a foodie for a day
Music:
They heard about a particular local band/artist that’s going to perform and want to check them out
They have a friend who’s performing, or they themselves are performing
Perhaps they’re complaining about a particular band/artist’s set
All of the performers could be brand new to them (as none are major artists/bands/groups) but they’re scouting new music to listen to
Other Entertainment & Ideas:
The smaller fashion show is more their speed, not to mention of greater convenience than trying to get into Fashion Week
They’re interested in buying some new clothes, jewelry, purses, etc. and like shopping with fair/open market vendors
They, or someone they’re with wants to get their face painted
One or more of the prizes at the silent auction interests them enough to place a bid
The information booths, seminar/demos being done may be of interest to them (decorating, consulting, massage therapy, party venues, caterers, etc.)
They print off a generic scavenger hunt beforehand and try to play with some friends before coming to the party
They or someone they came with gets lost/separated
They’re interested in possibly meeting Tony Stark/Iron Man
The close proximity of the block party to where your character lives was motivation enough for them to come

Cocktails || Open RP
Matt gathered himself together and put on his best outfit, which was a -hopefully- matching jacket, pants, and shoes. The coats were gathered together in a large box, and he wrapped it up in wrapping paper and a large bow big enough for a small car. Matt placed his opaque glasses on his face, picked up his cane, and called a taxi.
When the taxi came he had the driver put the box in the seat beside him, feeling the stare from the driver. Neither of them spoke to each other other than formalities, and when Matt got to the plaza he paid the driver and took his large box to a table. He wasn’t the only one there, as he heard someone else’s voice call over to him.

There are no unwanted children, only unfound families
Tagging: Nadia Lee, Jubilation Lee, Alonso Mendoza, Esperanza Mendoza Location: Alonso and Esperanza's home, New York City Timeframe: January 2011 General Notes: How Nadia became a Lee
Jubilee’s eyes moved along with Alonso’s pacing and she shook her head, leaning into Esperanza. “Is he going to be okay? He looks like he’s going to pass out. Should I get him water?” She was aware of Alonso being nervous and it was a bit amusing. “Dee should be here any minute. I think she got stuck in a class.” It had been some time since Alonso and Esperanza had moved to New York City and it still felt surreal. College and keeping a long distance relationship was hard enough on her without having to worry about her “parents”. Once the doorbell rang, the three jumped simultaneously making Jubilee giggle. She hadn’t revealed the nature of the conversation they were about to have to her friend and was overjoyed and excited. Skipping towards the door, she straightened out her hair, rolled her shoulders back and took a deep breath before opening it. “Jellybean! Hey! Come in! How was class?”
Esperanza was aware that asking Deanne if it was okay to adopt her seemed a little late now that the girl was a young woman. The idea of calling her a daughter however was something that appealed to her and she wanted to share that with Jubilee’s friend. They didn’t need paperwork or lawyers. They just wanted to let Deanne know she had a family. “He’s going to be fine...I hope.” She stared at her husband and chuckled. “He just wants this to go smoothly.” Esperanza placed the last of the sandwiches and pieces of fruit on the platter and sat down patiently waiting for the young girl to arrive. Upon hearing the doorbell, she jumped slightly, laughing along with Jubilee and stood up. “Deanne! Come over here!” She opened her arms to welcome a hug with a bright smile.
Dee ran her fingers through her hair as she waited for the door to be answered; rushing to get there had done a number on the blonde locks. When it opened, she wrapped her arms around Jubilee, then stepped inside. “It was good! Up to a B in English!” Once, she would have berated herself for anything less than perfection, but as time went on she began to accept that it was the overall improvement that counted, not a red letter on a page. Dee smiled at Esperanza and Alonso, gave her a hug, and glanced at the platter of food. “I hope you’re not making that fuss for me,” she said, although she was a little hungry.
Jubilee returned the hug with a wide smile and clapped happily at Deanne’s news. “That’s great! Told you that you could do it!” She slipped her hand into Dee’s—a gesture they were now both used to and walked over to the dining room table. Nudging Alonso so that he could hug her friend as well, she smiled and rolled her eyes playfully at his adorably nervous the older man was. “Yeah, this is what my family does apparently. Food for everything. But you won’t catch me complaining.” She chuckled as she reached for a sandwich and sat across Alonso and Esperanza. “Sit next to me, Jellybean.”
Alonso watched the interaction between Jubilee and Deanne and couldn’t help but smile at how well the two got along and how much Deanne had grown. “A B! That’s wonderful, Deanne. We are all very proud of how well you’ve been doing. Hope especially.” He pulled the chair for his wife and then took the seat beside her. “And yes please, eat!” He chuckled and sat back. “My wife and I...and Jubilee too…” He looked over to Jubilee with a tender smile. “We’ve been wanting to talk to you about something very important to us.” He couldn’t help the grin on his face and decided to let it out so that he wouldn’t scare the young girl. “We know you’re old enough to ...how do you say...not need a guardian?” Esperanza reached for his hand in support and he continued “But my wife and I would love the opportunity to...act as your guardians...your parents. Which would make Jubilee your sister...how do you feel about that?”
Dee grinned proudly and nodded; Jubilee told her she could do it many times, and it turned out that she was right. She squeezed Jubilee’s hand, and hugged Alonso with the other arm. “Thank you.” Dee grabbed a strawberry and sat next to the girl she already considered her sister, raising a curious eyebrow before she listened attentively to Alonso. ‘Something very important’ made her turn her head towards Jubilee. The smile was somewhat reassuring, but she still couldn’t help but wonder if it was going to be something bad. As he continued, though, her expression shifted from apprehension to surprise, and she looked to Jubilee once again for confirmation that she didn’t mishear. “I...I...uh…” Her blue eyes darted between the three of them as she tried to put a sentence together. “You really…? Are you...are you sure...? You...” She didn’t realized she started crying until she felt tears splashing on her shirt. “...Why?”
Jubilee was grinning from ear to ear and looked over to Deanne after Alonso expressed his proposal. Once Dee started crying, Jubilee immediately placed an arm around her and rubbed her arm.
Alonso panicked slightly, looking over to his wife. “She’s crying. Is she okay? Is there anything I can do, Deanne? Chocolate milk? Anything?” He just wanted her to be happy.
Esperanza was the motherly type already serving as a mom to Jubilee and Hope so she stood up from her seat and walked over to Deanne, kneeling down and placing her hands on the young girl’s lap. “Well, Alonso and I have noticed how close you and Bug have gotten over time and we just adore big families. You’re already part of it so why not making it official?” She offered the young girl a soft smile and looked up into her blue eyes “We’ve grown to love you very much…Jellybean. What do you say?”
Dee could tell that her tears were causing concern, which added to the overwhelmed feeling until Esperanza approached her and calmly explained. She nodded hesitantly and wiped away her tears, took a deep breath, then nodded again more resolutely. “I—I would love that. But...are you sure?” She looked over to Jubilee, fear in her eyes, silently asking how much they really knew about her. Would they want her if they knew? She still couldn’t wrap her head around the fact that Jubilee did, nevertheless her family. “I d-don’t know much about...about being part of a family, except what Jubilee and Marie have taught me, but that was about being a sister, not...I’ve never been a daughter, and...I’m not exactly ideal. I think I would disappoint you."
Esperanza looked over to Jubilee and then back at Alonso before taking Deanne’s hand in hers. “Yes. We’re very sure. And you don’t have to worry about knowing how to be a daughter. It’ll come naturally. And we have a lot to learn about being parents, I’m sure.” She chuckled softly. “You couldn’t possibly disappoint us. Parents don't get disappointed by their children. They shouldn’t. We’ll be here to help you and guide you and support you…”
Alonso smiled with every word from his wife and knelt down as well, grabbing his back as he did so. “Forgive me. I’m an old man…” He joked and laughed hoping to break the tension. “As long as you promise to take care of us too when we’re older.” He smirked and reached for Jubilee’s hand so that she could also surround Deanne. “So...would she be Mendoza? Or Vergara?”
Jubilee almost squealed with excitement and walked over to the other three. “Yeah, Dee. I know you’ve got this but it’s solely up to you. And if anything, she should be a 'Lee'.” She laughed along with the others hoping it was enough to convince her friend.
Dee wasn’t so sure about it coming naturally, but that didn’t mean she couldn’t figure it out. She’d already learned so much, and Jubilee was family for all intents and purposes, so if Jubilee was sure… “I—I don’t know what to say, except...thank you. And of course, I promise.” She almost asked if they were sure again, but stopped, and instead wrapped her arms around Esperanza and Alonso. “Thank you so much.”
Jubilee squeezed her friend tightly. “So, we’re family! yayy! I love the way that sounds!” She kissed the top of the blonde’s head and wiped the happy tears from her eyes. “We gotta tell Hope! and Leo! They’re going to freak out!”
Esperanza smiled widely and shook her head. “Soon, Bug. First, let’s celebrate.” She gently wrapped her arms around Deanne’s shoulders and kissed her temple—a simple gesture she had done many times before but it felt a lot different this time around. “Love you, Jellybean.” and she looked up to Alonso who repeated the same words.
Dee smiled through tears of joy. “I love you, too.”
