Amai’s Week
I didn’t even know until today that Amai had a week, that’s how hard this game fell off. Anyway, boy do I have some criticisms.
1) We need that many ways to enter a building in a mission? Why? It ends the same no matter what. The mission is still linear.
2) The dialogue in this game is so stiff and not how people talk. Never played a Hitman mission where the target said “I’m going to be here at X time, doing Y thing, blah blah blah” but Amai is kind enough to specify the times she’ll be serving food. Yeah, it’s kind of intuitive to not exit the classroom and start serving octodogs, the cooking club should know it’ll only be at morning, lunch and after school.
3) Amai’s sabotage events are so silly. I remember jokingly thinking “what? are we going to be giving him a pink apron or something?” as a JOKE. And then it HAPPENED, essentially. These characters are meant to be adults LARPing as teenagers but even a teenager has more maturity than “oh, you made an apron I didn’t like!” What? Did Ayano draw a swastika on it or another hate symbol? The game refers to it as a ‘lame’ apron, which implies it’s more likely that Ayano used a bland colour scheme. I’m sorry, but “I wanted a black apron but you made me a pink one, that offends me” is not on the same level. And by the way- if Amai’s food is giving people food poisoning due to Ayano’s sabotage, why is she still allowed to run the bake sale???
I was genuinely thinking “surely, it’s more going in this direction” during the picnic talk. It was. So, what? Amai is supposed to control the insects?
If you sabotage all of Amai’s events, Senpai should get the sense that she’s a BAD COOK. Literally all. Her sabotage events are NOT enough to warrant being cut off or rejected.
4) I like how no one in this game questions a giant ass water fountain placed randomly in a room.
5) THE LOVE CONFESSION DOESN’T MAKE AMAI LOOK GOOD, EITHER. Who the FUCK says “yeah, I know I’ve known you for a week, but I was actually pissed at you for mourning your dead friend because… what about me???”
OKAY, TO BE FAIR, THAT “MAKE SURE YOU KEEP THAT IN MIND” LINE FROM AYANO GOES HARD ASF 🔥
6) Okay lol I just. I love how funny Kizana is.
I like to imagine Ayano and Senpai are in some Truman Show situation where Info-chan is just hiring all these colourful personalities to rizz Senpai to create the craziest situations ever. Like Ayano is just some institutionalised person who was dragged out by a studio to be exploited in her dire mental state. Can’t wait to get Kizana in 2025 and Oka in 2026.
Look I’m an Amai defender but spitting in someone’s food is VILE. The reason I don’t go to… let’s call it OldRonalds is because three employees spat in my food. I had three occasions. Yeah, wasn’t risking a fourth. AND IT’S IMPLIED SHE DID THIS SEVERAL TIMES. That is NASTY.
7) Yeah I definitely talk to myself when cooking. That’s totally normal.
8) SHE TELEPORTS IMMEDIATELY TO THE FLOOR. ALSO HOW WOULD NO ONE HEAR THAT???
9) A small pet peeve of mine over the years is the line “oh my god! is that a dead body?” when talking about their classmates. Akademi is a small school, where everyone should know each other. Maybe- like “Oh my god! [character’s surname, because it’s Japan, or whatever their nickname is considering Akademi has nicknames]? A-are you okay? I need to get help!”
10) Ben Shoku-ro asks us to essentially stalk Amai. Very normal. See, this is why I headcanon that Akademi is just a mental institution disguised as some… high school LARP. A very ineffective one, too.
11) I like how everyone has the exact same criticism with the exact same wording towards Amai’s cooking.
12) “You shoot 100% of the takes you don’t miss” is such a funny quote. No shit Sherlock.
13) “juvenile delinquent” aren’t they 18? C’mon, if you’re gonna use the “they’re actually 18” excuse, be consistent about it.
14) Welcome to Writing 101. In Inkyu and Sakyu’s conversation on Friday, the pink one (Inkyu, I believe) says “however?” While Inkyu is gathering her thoughts. It doesn’t add tension to the scene, they’re talking about fucking studying. It happens twice, actually. It’s awkward and drags on too long. I’m a writer, not a programmer, but surely there has to be a way to make the dialogue end faster?
Also Horuda canonically drawing kill art is real asf. She is not okay in the head and is expressing her emotions to avoid doing something dangerous. This is what we call showing, not telling. This is something this game struggles at.
15) Wait, Kyuji stalking Osana is a bounty? What if the player match made them? Is the game seriously gonna punish you for doing the pacifist route?
16) Why can Toga walk on bushes???
Okay if Senpai’s new personality is himbo than I kinda fw him.
HELP DID YANDEREDEV FORGET TOGA WASN’T A CREEP SO HAD TO RETCON IT?? Same with Horo, though I think Horo being weird was inferred by the demon Easter egg.
17) Also, another general criticism, but the dialogue in this game is so wonky. Instead of “Hey, blah blah, did you know blah blah dislikes gossip?” It could be “Hey, blah blah, X said to me gossipers were all evil people. Ridiculous, right? Who doesn’t gossip from time to time? Guess that’s what I’m doing” or something shorter than that. And things like money and violence shouldn’t even be discussable topics. I’m sorry but “Hey, Horuda Umetsu, did you know Amai Odayaka dislikes violence” would receive an “okay? don’t we all?” IRL. Like even though Horuda is prone to violence no one’s going around shaming people for disliking it WTF.
(Edit: Btw, before Amai came out, I made my own version of Amai’s week a year ago, along with the other rivals, but honestly? They suck. I’ll add them anyway, if you wanna check them out, but I got lazy halfway through and began half assing stuff: Amai, Kizana, Oka, Asu, Muja, Mida, Osoro, Hanako, Megami. I’m not saying these are better than the game. The way I characterised Kizana, for example? Canon Kizana is much better. The writing on these posts were somehow cringier than the actual writing. Why share it then? Dunno. I like humiliating myself? Oddly, I got a lot of nice DM’s from people about them at the time. I also made a shitty AU.) (I have more posts over there, like a mission mode concept ending) (also, it was only a year ago, but I feel like my writing has improved a ton since then)
Addendum: Not sure if I gave the impression I support YandereDev. I don’t.

i love how you slander yansim characters bc they're wayyy too true
can you slander kencho next...
i wanna hear what you have to say
🎤
Wow, what do we have: another useless Saikou family member. Fork spotted in the kitchen come on guys why are you even surprised.
Tumblr media
Hear me out: give up on your dreams and die. Being the youngest child of a eugenist inheritance-based is a one-way ticked to bassically internal death. At this point you should just befriend Fun Girl and rot in the folders since you don't serve any other purpose then just to fill Megami's description
Wait... you do serve a purpose! What is that purpose again? Ops, same as we talked before: to kill Megami with Ayano. Shit, thought we were getting something interesting about you since you're bassically the "back-up" but no no no we can't have good things here. This is Yandere Simulator after all!
Dear Kencho, one word is written all over you: plot-device. A character, one that seems pretty major needs to do these two things: to entertain the audience and to move the plot forward. If you entertain the audience but don't move the plot, congrats, you're useless. If you move the plot without entertaining them then congrats to you too, you're a plot device. We get it, you have many internal struggles does the audience really care? Do I really need to see him trying to justify internalized misoginy cause "ohhh he does not like his big sis 🥺". At this point the inferiority complex is justified. I say that because you just don't really have stuff of your own to show off. To prove my point even further, your wiki page, the one dedicated STRICTLY to you has just 5 rows. 5 rows of personality. Just as many as a student at Akademi. Wouldn't have been bad if he wasn't shown as the bastard who litterally takes part in the killing of the final boss! You're meant to just kill Megami. And it ends here. Does he regret it? No the fuck he does not because this is Yandere Simulator and everyone in this game is a fucking piece of trash!
So why even bother to slander a bland piece of paper... He doesn't entertain me or anyone else even tough he's supposed to do that. Wasted character even tough we had like a shit ton of years to develop him.
♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎
(P.S: He also reeks of misoginy.)

Now that Yandere Dev is dead in the water and his game is as deep in the sand as he is.. I, a random person on the internet, vote that we as a community take the concept of Yandere Simulator and make it into something better!
Because the concept IS decent, just the execution needs work... A lot of work.
Everyone should have their own ideas for it so Imma say my vague concept that I probably won't ever bring up again.
For my new take on the concept, for one, almost all the main characters are actually going to be adults. It's stated that they already are but that's bullshit that Yandere Dev clearly used to justify some in game bullshit, they're in fucking high school, maybe one could be 18, but not fucking all of them.
Second, I might replace Ayano with some demonic or otherworldly being that's not exactly in love with Taro but heavily obsessive and interested in him, possessive even. Because honestly, while the point of the story IS a Yandere school girl, that topic has been milked to absolute death and is prone to get boring as hell. Plus, it's my idea to rewrite the story, I can take it as far as I damn want!
If Ayano is a demonic being in this, possibly Taro could be in this occult team/club/gang/cult so that way Ayano has REASON to be interested and connected to him.
Taro, in this rewrite, is a complex person. He's a nice guy, lives alone with and takes care of his 13 year old sister after his dad ditched them and he kiiiinnnda murdered his mom for the cult he's in and because he just disliked her. Yeah, Taro ain't no goodie two shoes bland mf now! He may be nice, treats his sister well, and partly believes he's a good person but he's in a cult, is willing to murder people who he thinks deserves it or anyone who threatens to find out about his crimes, and he supports cannibalism, under the right circumstances though. He still comes off as, and kinda is, a nice guy who wants to help people in any way he can, real protective of his friends and whom he dubs as innocent. He's got the mentality of wanting to see half the world burn and half the world blossom, he wants all those he thinks are bad or beyond helping to suffer while he wants the ones he believes are innocent to live happy and healthy lives.
Him and Ayano's dynamic is something I'm still thinking about honestly, as while rewriting the other characters is somehow easy, rewriting Ayano is just a pain for me somehow, it's hard to really rewrite anything about her and I don't know why. I may keep her emotionless thing going on though, not sure.
For Taro's sister, she's a slightly bratty newly teen, is very attached to her brother as he's the only family she has left but isn't overly affectionate with him, if anything, she's the most bratty with him. She doesn't expect too much from him and doesn't believe she can pout or whine to get her way but slightly does so to be petty and because Taro doesn't really react negatively to it... Yet. She has no idea what happened to her mom, just views her as missing, and has no idea Taro is in a cult. To her, she's got a normal life, despite her mom going missing and viewing her dad as the biggest jackass alive.
Taro and Osana's relationship and meeting is pretty different in this, Osana won't be Taro's childhood friend, I'll be giving that to someone else, instead Osana is a girl living in an apartment building, cooped up in her apartment and barely interacting with the outside world. After a stalking and obsessive situation she was the victim of, leading to the death of her cat, she swore she'd never trust the world again. Her apartment is a mess as she has no friends, she cut off her family, and she has no one to even talk to, she could technically be counted as a slob but at least she keeps herself clean. She hates the world and especially has issues with men.
When she meets with Taro for the first time, she wants absolutely nothing to do with him, constantly is mean to him, insults him, ect. Taro would've not dealt with her after their first interaction but learns what a state she's in from the apartment building owner and vows to try to help her and be kind to her. Why? Because he feels bad for her... And because he accidentally ran over a cat so he feels the need to feel better about himself, using the excuse of trying to prove to the world or some higher force that he can still be a good person. So...
I will leave it there! My ramblings went off the rails and this is only a concept that I have no idea I'll even touch on again.

Today I saw a post on Reddit about "why Taro is bland character and why (suddenly) Kaga should be in his place"
And then I thought, like...
Kaga is a fucking charismatic character with a catchy design, I'm sure he'll play a big role in the yansim story (not just as rival suitor, no, it's something much more, I think)
But
He shouldn't be in place of Taro
I mean, Kaga is clearly not the type that many girls would fall in love with. And I think that even if a lot of girls fell in love with him, he would most likely reject them right away, since he is too busy to be in romantic relationship (Megami is the only exception for reasons that you know)
Also I don't like at all how people think that senpai has to be the most handsome/smart/strong in the school so that like...Ayano could fell in love with him. No one thinks about the fact that, actually, Taro as a completely ordinary boy is a good concept. Like, you don't have to be the most popular in school to fall prey to a stalker and maniac. None of us are safety. Isn't that scary?
About why so many girls fell in love with Taro, I would like to talk later. Now it's just indignation because of another "Taro is boring" post
And yeah... I am Taro simp

After binge watching You (not a masterpiece of a show but a super entertaining psycho thriller btw), I can't get over how perfectly the seeming blandness and wishy washiness of the main character captures what makes him so fucking scary.. At first glance he seems so normal, kinda 'safe' and 'boring', kinda awkward and witty at times, just some quiet smart dude who loves books and prefers a quiet, simple life, but what goes on underneath is deprived and dellusional, and what's worse he seems to have actual feelings and shows (learned/cognitive?) empathy and pity and helps the helpless (children in abusive situations, etc) which maybe makes him a little more sympathetic? But he's still batshit and gives me the absolute c r e e p s and sometimes I can't even look at him and oh my God, that damn callousness is just eughh but he's so entertaining to watch? Such a trainwreck
Anyway what I mean by this is that this is how I imagine Ayano Aishi would be if she were PROPERLY developed. As in, she constantly wears a mask and has some interests and things she kinda cares about which makes her somewhat likeable and relatable esp to other girls, but she had a traumatic childhood that left her broken and that led her to believe that it's ok to kill and do whatever it takes for love, and so dellusional that she doesn't comprehend that lying, manipulating, stalking, kidnapping, murdering is not the right way to earn and keep someone's love. Kinda in her inner monologues she constantly uses euphemisms to hide her desire to hurt others even from her own self.. She doesn't think 'I'm going to kill her for stealing senpai from me' but like 'she treats senpai like trash and constantly brings him down and it disgusts me I can't stand to watch it anymore, I need to help him, I need to make him see' And throughout it all she's very analytical and calculating. And when she loves she's obsessively protective and mostly hides it like the 'proper' girl she is until she snaps and her mask cracks and it leaves everyone baffled because she's so well-put all the time. The matchmaking isn't necessarily the 'good' way of getting rid of romantic rivals because it involves stalking and manipulation and tampering with other people's lives. Her friendships are out of pure convenience and need to appear normal which is why she tries so hard to have a good reputation and seem normal, none of it is genuine except the crazy obsession with senpai which.. Is it even true love? Hm...
Anyway I for some reason will forever be salty that yandere chan had so much potential and ended up so shitty and in my mind this is what she's RLY like.. Alex should just sell me the rights (can he even do that? Lol hehe) I'll save the game with this characterisation alone I s2g
