What would have happened if Azula had had an illness in the series?

Tuberculosis.

Tuberculosis is a very old disease, BC in fact. And let's assume that in Atla they also have that disease or similar.

And honestly it wouldn't be unusual for a royal to have a serious illness.

Anyway, it occurred to me just when I saw the movie where the Leper King appears, and then I thought of Azula, but with another illness. And I thought about my dad and my older brother who had tuberculosis, (They were cured, they are completely healthy now).

In Atla, I think Azula contracted the disease before going to war, I don't know how, maybe when she escaped from the palace and visited a place with poor people or something.

And she didn't know until she went to find Zuko and Iroh, and a doctor checked her (Lo and Li made her go to make sure she didn't have a broken bone after her fall) and that's when she found out she had tuberculosis.

Out of fear, Azula hid all evidence of her illness, saying that the reason she coughs is because she contracted the flu after falling into the water. She was able to do so for a while until Mai and Ty Lee discovered it in Ba sing se when they saw her coughing up blood.

Tuberculosis Au.

Mai and Ty Lee kiss Azula under a cloth that they put in her mouth, it is the only thing they can do to feel the heat of their princess's lips, unfortunately they cannot do it without the cloth, for fear of contracting tuberculosis.

They both take care of Azula when she is weak, and on the nights when their beloved has a fever or trembles from her curse, they both praise her and show her their devoted love, even when she is unconscious.

Tuberculosis Au.

After Mai and Ty Lee learn that Azula has tuberculosis, they try to keep her alive as long as they can. They both cannot bear the idea of Azula dying, they always thought that the princess was almost immortal, invincible, unstoppable, they were wrong.

Mai makes tea all the time, to soothe Azula's throat so she doesn't get hurt, and she always forces her to take painkillers for the pain, she doesn't want her to suffer. And she marvels that Azula does everything she tells her, she didn't think she would see her so submissive to her.

Ty Lee always has tissues, to clean Azula's blood herself, even though she knows it's dangerous, she just wants to feel Azula being taken care of. She also prepares food for her, although she knows that Azula has no appetite due to the illness, she insists that she eat, and Azula does, not because she needs it, but because it was Ty Lee who prepared it.

The day of the comet.

Azula reluctantly prepared herself, she was subjected to being the Fire Lord, but that was okay, she wasn't going to last long, but she was going to do what she could for her Nation, it was the only thing she had left.

Until Zuko and the waterbender showed up, with their flying bison. And that's where her rage broke out, her girls-no... Mai and Ty Lee left her for stupid Zuko, always him, always him, why? Why do they always have to choose Zuko over her? HAS NO SENSE! WHAT DOES HE HAVE THAT SHE DOESN'T HAVE?

And so he accepted the Agni Kai with his damn brother, he wanted to show that he didn't need anyone but his power.

Everything was almost the same as in the series, until Zuko scoffed, and she prepared to launch a lightning bolt... but stopped when she had a coughing fit, the lightning bolt falls to the ground at Zuko's feet, making him goes flying, and Azula faints.

Katara, in shock, didn't know what to do, help Zuko who had burns on his feet? Or the girl who fainted after spitting up blood? Obviously it was because of Azula, she was mean, but she was her age, how could she refuse to help someone in need? Besides, Zuko was fine, he was still breathing and looking at the sky, he would be fine, he was a firebender, he could take burns.

Everything fell apart after Mai and Ty Lee's betrayal, Azula never thought that would happen, they had spent more time together, they had shared a "kiss", why did they betray her? Has no sense.

After that, Azula began to neglect herself even more, she had no one to take care of her, her throat began to bother her, she didn't eat, her fire diminished due to her sick lungs, and everything went to shit when her father left.

Azula was so sad that she couldn't move, her curse was killing her, but she felt like it was the sadness that was really taking over her.

I'm not really a writer, I think I've made that clear before.

I was just throwing out ideas in my Au out of fun and boredom, even though they aren't "canon" in the Au.

You can imagine how the Au works, there really is no guide, you can even imagine Azula dying.

By the way, maybe I'll write more about the Au, although I won't continue in the other posts, there's no preview or continuation, just me throwing out my ideas of how it would work.
