totk slab quest/general spoilers:

The slabs seemed to address my main question: Why did Rauru want to establish a kingdom in the first place?

I've come to believe "guilt" was the driving force behind his actions, especially considering that the Zonai's primary motive for staying and playing god in Hyrule for so long, was so they could mine zonaite from the depths. Since we know that monsters originate from the depths, I think it can be inferred that the opening of the chasms brought the first wave of monsters to the surface.

The slabs also mention how the monsters had been tormenting the surface dwellers long before Ganon/The Demon King, appeared. This is why Rauru and Sonia placed the light shrines on the surface. It is likely that Sonia was advising Rauru on this matter specifically, before their union.

The other Zonai seemed to have left by choice, probably when the zonaite deposits started drying up, leaving Rauru and Mineru behind. Rauru already had a keen interest in learning about and interacting with the surface dwellers, so that may have played a part in their reasoning for staying as well.

From my observations, it is apparent that Rauru believes he possesses innate wisdom beyond his own capabilities. He perceives surface folk to be less sophisticated than himself, and critically, less capable of becoming a danger or threat. Even when warned by Zelda, a girl from the literal fucking future with knowledge about the dangers of getting close to Ganondorf or allowing him access to the magical stones, Rauru still believes he is one step ahead and tells her to chill the fuck out...Like okay dumb ass.

While Rauru's intentions are good, he lacks perspective and critical thinking skills because he considers himself marginally wiser than anyone other than Sonia, who seems to keep him in check most of the time. (thinking abt the cutscene where they first meet Zelda, a lost and terrified youth, and he literally cannot find it in himself to be empathetic for 5 seconds. 0/10 dad energy)

I find Rauru fascinating because he is driven entirely by his emotions. He is so determined to do what is right that he is consistently caught off guard by his own mistakes. He's such a house cat of a king, someone grab a spray bottle.

tl;dr I think Rauru felt bad for the actions of his ancestors and was like "I alone, could fix this" while making shit much worse b/c he's an emotionally driven idiot, who cannot remove himself from his own station of being, slightly better than the average surface dweller.

Anyways, no good kings in Hyrule, glad this theme is still consistent.

(I still haven't beaten the last boss so no end game spoilers if I'm entirely off base)

Streber - wire puzzle, to fit with his love of inventing. When Streber attempts to take an item out, he will be presented with a mess of wires he needs to connect to the right nodes. When solved, he gets the item

Radford - movie trivia. Simple enough, though has comedic potential if someone else tries to use it and is immediately stumped by some b-movie horror knowledge only Radford knows

Ross - I feel like Ross would go for something straightforward, like Array. However if he or his dad are musicians I could see him having a Simon Says-like Modus where the card plays a string of notes and Ross has to copy them back

Roy - idk why but I see him having something money-related, probably bought by his parents. My idea is that he can "deposit" items freely, but to take them out he needs to either pay for it with money or an item of equal or greater value to the item he wants to take out (there'd be an "eject all" button that spits out both the items and any deposited money so it's not like, completely impossible to access anything). Roy swaps this out with a far less convoluted Modus the first chance he gets lol

Robert - idk why but I feel like he'd go for one of the board game ones? Like Jenga or Operation. Something simple, but fun

Speaking of the board game Modi... I imagine similar to Jade's grandpa, Pump and Susie's parents got them a bunch of board game Modi for Christmas, and the two just picked their favorites

Susie - Pictionary. Easy enough and fits with her love of art, even if it's a bit obtuse at times

Pump - Ouija. Works like Aradia's, just in English. Due to his connection to Heir of Light Skid, to Eyes, or both, the spirits usually end up giving him what he wants, making it a relatively easy Modus for him to use

Skid - I had a bit of trouble coming up with something for Skid, because I wanted to have it be spook-related in some way while not just giving him another Ouija board. I then realized... Maze Game Modus! Skid drags a dot through a maze, and when he reaches the end he gets his item. If he fails the maze a loud scream will play, and sometimes he intentionally fails just to hear it. It's based off the Scary Maze Game :>

Sometimes Skid and Pump also swap Modi for fun!

I couldn't come up with anything for Kevin or Ethan, unfortunately. Maybe Kevin could have like a gumball or capsule machine Modus, where he turns a crank and gets a random item, but I have no idea what to do for Ethan

i think kevin would prolly have an array modus actually, eventually his terrible luck using any fun-ish modus would get the best of him i think ;u; maybe he'd get the gumball one back postgame but its just not practical when you have the worst luck on in paradox space lol

ethan... hm. not really sure what he'd use, prolly something spooky. maybe something based on excavation? he canonically collects bones in the forest so it kinda fits. like. big block o dirt/stone wtvr pops out and he has to break it open. maybe he'd have some sort of tool to help with that (chiselkind?) in his strife deck just to be safe

ross would prolly have a music-based modus, yeah. i made one up kinda recently (its what i would use lol), melody modus! each item is assigned a short tune which you have to repeat to get something out. you get to pick the tune, tho. i can see him using video game songs for it - zelda theme, green hill zone, white space... megalovania-

rob could get the memory modus, i think hed be good at that one

*starlight (botw link) - his name is actually signed 'star fragment', representing his adventurous, questing nature. he thrives in the wild, and he's rare and lucky himself, like a star fragment. he's also one of the few people who manages to find star fragments, so isha especially loves using that name. when spoken, however, it's a little awkward, so it gets changed to starlight. it is also a reference to how botw opens (zelda says 'you are the light, our light that must shine on hyrule once again'. but i didn't want to just call him light lol)

*archive (botw zelda) - this is mostly a placeholder while i think abt it, but. she likes history and research and documenting stuff :-) also she's a woman out of time, going from her life 100 years ago to now

*charm, captain (hyrule warriors link) - he is handsome and charming :) need i say more

*grace (hyrule warriors zelda) - she is lovely and graceful :) also sounds cute with charm

*bee (alttp, oracle games) - he is a busy adventurer (a busy bee, if you will) (also an affectionate nod to therunawayguys' alttp playthrough, where emile called it the 'bee-percent run'. this was my first introduction to alttp)

So what's been your favorite parts of IDW Sonic so far?

Sonic vs. Neo Metal Sonic in #7. Not only was the art amazingly fluid, but it also served to compound the high-speed nature of the brawl

How much of a powerhouse Super Neo Metal Sonic shows himself to be in #10. The horrific beatdown he delivers to Sonic and Knuckles also merits a mention. In comparison, Master Overlord was a major downgrade

Dr. Starline's introduction in #11. It was just... really effective. Electrocuting the main villain of the series to restore his former self is sure a hell of a way to leave an impression.

The final page of #12, where Eggman strikes an epic pose while unveiling the Metal Virus and declaring that the world will suffer for his time as an insipid tinkerer

Eggman and Starline's part of the narrative in #13. There was a slight tone of dread going through the whole issue due to it, and I loved seeing Eggman experiment on a bunch of animals with a gleeful smile on his face

Dr. Starline's, uh, misdirection of Sonic and Silver from #14 was a bit clever, ngl. Him subsequently getting a severe reprimand from Eggman himself was awesome, especially when Eggman began a motive rant about how he needs to break Sonic mentally first before killing him. Speaking of the doctor's motives...

Eggman in #16 as a whole. I'll give Ian credit - the characterization of Eggman seeing the world as filthy and irregular and longing to bring it into order by making it utterly subservient to him is a rather awesome one. His “No Good Deed Goes Unpunished” act - soaking the village that cared for him with the Metal Virus - was horrifyingly terrific as well

Team Chaotix’ close-knitness and antics in #17 were really nice 

Tails breaking out the Cyclone in #21 when the cure’s download fails and he gets stripped of the Server Blades

Amy rescuing Cream at the infected Vanilla’s request in #22. I’ll admit, this moment was actually physically painful to me 

Tangle’s self-sacrifice and Whisper’s ensuing mental breakdown in #24. Man, ABT clearly knows how to draw dramatic moments well

#25′s RI-A and RI-B covers. Love the colors and the fact that Ms. Fourdraine based her RI-A cover on Zelda 2′s game over screen

As much as I resent the Deadly Six’ usage in IDW Sonic, I still like the monstrous, Kaiju-esque form Zavok takes at the end of #28, with all of the veins popping out and what-not

I can't stop thinking abt ragh and danielle being friends bc they're always alphabet neighbors which means neighboring lockers and often assigned seats and like testing rooms. but like nobody Gets It bc they're such different people in absolutely every way but they just vibe

ragh didn’t bring any pencils to the fantasy SAT, danielle druid-magics some up for him. yes i know shape wood isn’t a real 5e spell but a) it really should be, please buff the druids some more and b) ragh needs pencils, like, BAD

at some point in their freshman year danielle’s fox escapes and goes haring off towards the highly monster-laden woods, ragh does this truly majestic flying tackle to recapture it. 

some teacher who really needs reading glasses thinks their last names are the same when reading off attendance on the first day of class and asks ragh if they’re twins, at which point both of them are like ???? sir with all due respect what the fuck

absolutely no basis for this other than that danielle is tall and broad shouldered physically but i feel like a) the maidens have a lot of people who are good at like. hitting things until they die but they need someone to keep this group on task and also in vaguely good spirits? and also b) idk i just get like. club soccer player vibes? so they’re both in the athletic director’s council or whatever the equivalent is. danielle brings rlly good homemade muffins, ragh brings oranges lovingly cut up by his mom and sealed into those big tupperware with the rubbery lids yknow?

the “more senior members of this friend group/club bond together and adopt the freshmen, often creating intricate webs of quasi-familial relationships” dynamic was extremely important to me in hs and i simply think that both ostentatia and danielle would adopt zelda w/i the seven maidens? zelda calls them both “mom” and it starts as a joke and then it becomes not a joke (i think this is partly how walstock happens). when zelda starts going out w gorgug and then when zelda starts joining gorgug + ragh’s barbarian workouts danielle is assigned to vet him and goes “yeah ragh’s chill.” possibly goes out back and gives ragh a platonic version of the shovel talk that involves “don’t you dare hurt my daughter i’m aware that’s what sparring is, hurting each other on purposes, but i will summon pixies and kill you” and ragh’s like “since when do you have a daughter?!”

this should go without saying because obviously this is canon by now /j but after danielle and ostentatia figure their shit out and start dating over spring break they go to lgbt union meetings together 

i feel like their friendship would be a lot of casual fist bumps + a lot of danielle rolling her eyes/sighing (as she wood shapes pencils/podiums/other random crap back together) + a lot of danielle baking and having no one at her house who eats that much vs. ragh needing to carboload at all times

definitely ocarina of time. i played the first three mini dungeons a couple times when i was younger bc i would pick it up, play through them, n then either fall off it for some reason or i was dumb and bad at video games n didnt kno where to go or what to do lmao

but i finally beat it earlier this year and. i was really happy with it and enjoyed it immensely, its come to mean a lot to me after finally seeing the full story and messages its got in it. (not 2 b gay or anything lmao.) but yeah since beating it i have not stopped wanting to replay it or try master quest OR find a randomizer i think that could be fun

yknow while im at it bc i want to ill talk abt the other loz games i enjoy because i can and ive been on a massive zelda kick recently oops

majoras mask and a link between worlds are both super close seconds for me. mm is just *chefs kiss* if i go into that game we'll be here awhile so just take the fact that it resonates a lot w me and move on. a link between worlds is adorable. just like flat out. i also love the painting mechanic AND THE BUNNY GUY. also i love looking at the official art for that game it gives me the creativity juice. OH wind waker good too i never played that one but i did watch a lp of it

obviously i love botw even though if you ask me about how far i've progressed the story in that game i will kick you out of my house. idk botw is fun and i love how it feeds into like. distracting you. like ur supposed to go off and get distracted and it just feels like a good adventure and discovering stuff or solving puzzles feels really good!! but the story's kinda meh for me which is why i didnt get age of calamity and instead got the first hyrule warriors :) which i finished the main story of Tonight actually and im still going 'hey... what the fuck??'

hw is so bad its good. idk abt aoc but hw is so batshit story-wise its entertaining but more importantly the loop u get stuck in of doing the missions/scenarios, collecting materials, upgrading the warriors, etc. is like. for me. so addicting. young link will be a god in no time dont even fucking WORRY about it. oh also i jam to the soundtrack. some ppl complain abt the guitars but theyre wrong and im right n its fun :)

"Okaeri!" - this is my tag for my very poggers friend, franiel!! It's the romanized version of the japanese phrase, "Welcome back!" as their url used to be maidsonas (n maids normally say "welcome back!" to regulars, from what im gatherin)

"Extra! Extra!" - the tag I use for my very good best friend johnny! I kno xem for being into newsies, so i thought abt that n the song Hush Hush Magazine - Tape Five popped up. it's heard in the background of the pre-chorus!

"Zeus' Horny Mistake" - the tag i use for my very good older bro lyle!! U probs won't see this tag much bc i normally use the people tags for like. Posts he made, BUT. i wanted to include it anyways >:)

"J'adore les étoiles" - the tag I use for my very good best friend Air! J'adore les étoiles translate to "I love the stars", which is a song by The Orion Experience (where the line comes from). They also go by Star, which is why I thought of it! Normally used when they send me posts

"Jus a swarm of bees :>" - the tag I use for my very good best friend Bee!! Tbh i was tryin to think of smth more witty when coming up for a tag but that.. was what stuck? So i stuck w it!!

If i recall, most of them just have the name of the fandom but i kno there are exceptions!! Ill update this as i remember them (like w the other tags too)

Tho i will say that i do put "[series] spoilers" at the end of things often if it's specific so keep that in mind ('v')b

"Leg" - The Legend of Zelda series! Referencing a tumblr post where peeps were editing the cover of Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild to say things like "Legend of Zegend: Breath of the Weath" to which it got to just "Leg".

"Ryu ga Gotoku" - would u believe me if i said that i made this entire post just to use this point sjfjskf but yaya!! I'm gonna b using this title for the Yakuza game series as i feel it's gonna become a Big interest of mine as time goes on skfjsjf

A rulla thumb i go by is that I put game content on this blog n anime content on gayhatokareshi! Hyperfixes go on majimasteeth, and the url/theme will prolly change dependin on the hyperfix(es). Currently, my hyperfixes are: Genshin Impact, Ryu ga Gotoku, and The Magnus Archives. I'll prolly post stuff there when someone sends posts to me, but!! Yaya

logically i understand it's bcuz age of calamity is a Video Game and things need to b big missions battles everywhere but also like

in the master sword mission. what was the plan, exactly? they were just goin in there with the champions, zelda, and a random assortment of guards (including link, who's just a Regular Guy at this point, albeit promoted to zelda's bodyguard)

and then no one else

so if spooky guy didnt show up and link got the plot device to hack the phantoms to bits, would they just have let every soldier try pulling the sword? what would they've done if not a single one could lift it? maybe the plan would've been to secure a route to it so challengers can get there faster?

i, as a player, obviously don't have to worry abt this bcuz it's a zelda game and there's a guy named link present (albeit Just Some Guy named link) but the characters don't know that. zelda doesn't know she's in a zelda game. she doesn't know the formula for these things.

i am way way past that point in the game by now but i still wonder. who thought this through. nobody.

b4 i talk abt zelda, lets!!! talk about my thots on the xenoblade chronicles games!!! bc wow, nintendo found a way to easily and quickly get me interested in and lose interest on an rpg series!!!!

so like. tbh. ive never even heard of xenoblade chronicles until i got smash for wii u, and saw shulk in there, and i was confused??? what game was he from, idk what hes from??? n i found out he was from this game for the wii called xenoblade chronicles!!! and in 2015-2017, i was initially interested in this series!!! like, from the way they presented in smash 4, it seems like an interesting series!!! the first game looked cool, then the "second game" for wii u even looked cooler!!! like, an adult rpg for the switch where u get to fly around in mechs??? that sounds cool as fuck!!!

what i didnt initially know, and later found out and cringed about, was that original xenoblade chronicles x in japan had was a boob slider!!! which yikes!!! sounds p bad but it didnt deter me, and hey!! they took it off of the us release, so like!! at least they had some moral ground

i was abt 2 go on a whole story abt xenoblade chronicles 2, but if u want my opinion. i just dont like it anymore, and now i dont really care for xenoblade chronicles all that much. xc2 specifically couldnt tell if it wanted 2 be a miyazaki-esque inspired game, where like, the games worlds take place on the backs of dragons, which sounds cool and interesting as fuck!!!

but then ya got boob sword. and then theres terribly designed horny rabbit character. then ive heard stuff like how sword boobs boobs kept changing size in each cutscene, and like. yep, ya lost me game

did ya want 2 b a horny gatcha game, or did ya wanna b a cool, inspiring rpg??? bc honestly, idk n idc
